Mary L. Canan (December 25, 2009)

Mrs. Mary Lou Canan, 75, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2009 at 2:38 PM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born on September 26, 1934 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Samuel L. & Mary S. (Newlon) Myers.

Mary Lou was a homemaker and also was a beautician in her earlier years and also worked at the Yarn Dome in Greenville. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She loved knitting, sewing, painting and her dogs.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Bob Myers; uncles, Lester and Frank Newlon.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Canan of Greenville, Ohio whom she married on September 25, 1955, son, Dan Canan of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 10:30 AM in the old section of the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Samuel Hoeflich officiating. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Heart Association.

Edgar L. Starnes (Deember 23, 2009)

Mr. Edgar L. “Ed” Starnes, 72, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 10:24 PM at Reid Hospital in Richmond, IN. He was born on April 26, 1937 in Richmond, IN to the late Memphis Lee and Martha (Heiger) Starnes.

Ed retired from Cadillac Gage as a Machinist First Class. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Jim, David, Laura and Nancy.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Calvert) Starnes of New Paris, Ohio whom he married on November 11, 1962; sons and daughter in law, Steve and Ghlee Thornton of Ansonia, OH, Ronald Thornton and Randall Thornton both of Florida; daughter, Cheryl Watson of FL., several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters and brothers in law, Eloise and Don of Indiana and Rosemary and Larry of Indiana, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville with Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 9-11 AM before the service on Monday.

Teresa J. Cartee (December 16, 2009)

Cartee, Teresa J. (nee Miller), age 53 of Arcanum passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. She was born January 31, 1956 in Tucson, Arizona to Henry A. Miller and the late Patricia Miller. She was preceded in death by her daughter Joanne Stan. She is survived by her loving husband of 7 years, Charles Cartee; son Joseph Stan and his fiancée Michelle Steger; grandchildren Kayla Lynn Stan, Allen Robert Cartee; and a brother Franklin H. (Starr) Miller. Teresa was a lifetime member of the VFW Greenville Post #7262 and loved camping, fishing hunting, darts and playing pool. She was employed by Liberty Services Exhaust Cleaners. Teresa was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery, Vandalia, Ohio. M. Christine Jones (December 22, 2009)

M. Christine Jones, 87, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. Mrs. Jones was born in Cambridge, MA on March 20, 1922, the daughter of the late Hans and Margaret (MacKenzie) Knudsen. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum. Christine was a breast cancer survivor and a 20 year volunteer at Wayne Hospital. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Arcanum Garden Club, Arcanum Criterion Club, Faith UMC Women's Group, and the Arcanum Historical Society. Christine was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 59 years Dana C. Jones who died December 23, 2001. She is survived by children Rev. Dana C. Jones Jr. and wife Kathy of Sewickley, PA and Karen Shepard of Arcanum; grandchildren Kate Calone and husband David of Babylon, NY, Dana S. Jones and wife Terri of Mansfield, TX, Alison Coffman and husband Parker of Houston, TX, Rev Peter Jones and wife Annie Laurie of Lawrenceburg, KY, Melissa Johnston and husband Jon of Arcanum, and Stephanie Shepard of Arcanum; 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum with Rev Tom Hite officiating. Yolanda Richards (December 16, 2009)

Yolanda Richards, 61, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 11:16 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born on July 13, 1948 in Wayne County, Indiana to the late Harley and Mary (McClure) Richards.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Keland Richards. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Troutwine of Ansonia, Ohio.

There will be a service held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Dennis Riffell officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

April J. Peters (December 15, 2009)

April passed away on December 15, 2009 at University of Cincinnati Hospital after a ruptured Cerebral Aneurysm. With April will be her unborn child to have been named Landyn Allen Peters.

She is survived by her parents: Rick & Rhonda Peters of Greenville; Sister: Amber Peters; Grandparents: Scott & Betty Bingham of Greenville, Grandfather: Bob Peters of Beamsville, Grandmother & Step Grandfather: Barbara & Jack Riegle of Lakeland, Florida; Uncle & Aunt: Jimmy & Shaughn Bingham, Cousins: Cory, Justin, & Morgan of Greenville; her best friends: Tyler Erisman, & Katie Crandall.

April was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church of Greenville and an Honor Student at Greenville High School. Her goal was to be a Dental Hygienist after graduating from high school.

Services will be held on Saturday December 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Wesleyan Church 1400 East Main Street Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bob Boyd & Pastor Don Avore officiating. Burial will follow at Greenville Twp. Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday December 18, 2009 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio and a half an hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church. Ruth L. Hesson (December 13, 2009)

Ruth L. Hesson, 83, of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 3:15 PM at her residence. She was born on May 5, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Charles & Dora (Michael) Flatter.

In her earlier years she worked at Buchy’s Food Distributor in Greenville and also was a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by sisters; Genieva McGlothin, Helen Billheimer, Mary Whittaker Snyder, Virginia Ross and Mildred Best, brothers; Charles, Raymond, Bill, Cloyd, Alva, Paul, Virgil and Herman Flatter.

She is survived by her husband, Norbert (Daine) Hesson of Versailles, Ohio whom she married on November 26, 1947, daughter and son in law, Roxanna & Stephen Meyer of Houston, Ohio, son and daughter in law, Ritchy & Donna Hesson of Versailles, Ohio, granddaughters; Michelle (Greg) Wagner, Amy Meyer, Douglas Meyer and Lori (Travis) Copeland, great grandchildren; Jeremiah Wagner, Madilyn Wagner and Connor Copeland, sister, Betty Brown of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a private service held at the conveniences of the family. Burial will be in the Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles, Ohio.

John R. Baltes (December 13, 2009)

John Richard Baltes, 81, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 12:45 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born on May 3, 1928 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Theodore & Anna (Poly) Baltes.

He worked at Worch Lumber for 23 years, owner of John’s Hideaway and also worked at Lowes in Florida for 16 years retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the United States Army with the 4th Infantry Division in German during the Korean War, St, Denis Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He was on the Versailles Village Council from 1968-1971 and also completed the term for the late Earl Keyser in 1973-1974. John, along with Tom Magoto and Gale Blakeley, started the Versailles Little League in the 1960’s.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa (Berning) Baltes; second wife, Peg (Pequignot) Baltes; son, Patrick John Baltes, sisters; Ruth, Mary Catherine and Joan and brothers; Orville, Curtis and Joe.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Anthony “Tony” & Tania (Coetzee) Baltes of Stafford, Virginia, daughter, Joan Baltes of Florence, Alabama, grandson, Johan Baltes, granddaughters; Shonte’ Baltes and Janay Baltes, sister, Juanita Gerling of Versailles, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 4-7 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

Pina Bartos (December 13, 2009)

Pina Bartos, 62, of West Manchester, passed away on December 13, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. Pina was born on October 31, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of Emil and the late Etta (Fox) Bartos.

Pina graduated from Miami University in 1969 with her degree in Education. She taught for over 35 years at Fairborn and National Trail schools respectively where she retired in 2004. She then became a member of the Preble County Retired Teachers association. Pina taught both 4th and 6th grades and made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children including several generations of families.

Pina enjoyed traveling, including backpacking in Europe and driving across the United States. She loved cooking, making fleece blankets, and was an excellent artist and pianist. Pina also sang in the choir at Salem Church of God and participated in their singles group and Festival of Lights. She enjoyed going to Sun Watch Village and taking part in archeological digs. Pina loved to garden and created a butterfly garden with Ellen Hall at National Trail that she was very proud of. She loved serving people and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Her life was built around and blessed by many friendships.

Pina is survived by her father and step-mother, Emil and Ruby (Muth) Bartos; one brother, Rev. Emil Bartos, Jr.; two sisters, Rebecca (Bill) Hodgin and Martha (George) Skidmore; one step-brother, Andrew (Teresa) Muth; two step-sisters, Anna (David) Lewis and Heidi (Daniel) Linebaugh; nieces and nephews, Bradley (Heather) Skidmore, Matthew (Celeste) Skidmore, Emily (Russell) Cheesman, Mary Skidmore, Tia (Andrew) Williams, Mim Bartos; five great nieces and nephews; 7 step nieces and nephews; one great step-nephew and one great step-niece; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at Castine Church of the Brethren at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 18, 2009 with a graveside service following at the Greenmound Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Shilot being asked to officiate. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Dayton Hospice or the Pina Bartos Memorial Fund.

Norman G. Drew (December 13, 2009)

Norman G. Drew, 92, of Greenville, passed away Sunday morning, December 13, 2009 at Heartland of Greenville.

He was born in Ansonia, son of the late Arthur and Pearl (Lawrence) Drew. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey (Loy) Drew in 1965; his second wife, Margaret Drew in 2000; a son, Larry Drew in 1983; an infant daughter; brothers, Arno, Roy and Marley Drew; and sisters, Freda Hunt, Jean Falknor and Melvina Wentworth.

A retired farmer, Norman founded the Wildcat Woods Campground which he ran until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Sally) Drew of Greenville and Janet (Jack) Shives of Lake Placid, FL; grandchildren, Lora Alberto, Lynda Agee, Rodney Drew, Randall Drew, Kimberly (Shives) Harless, Scott Shives, Ron Shives, Todd Shives, Mark Shives and Susan (Shives) McCarta; numerous great and great great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Kahn of Florida.

Private services were held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial followed in the Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be given to the State of the Heart Hospice.

Barbara Ann Lee, 73, of Greenville, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Hospice of Dayton. Mrs. Lee was born in Dayton on October 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth (Steck) Brooks. She was a Homemaker and Mother. Barbara was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents and brother Richard Brooks. She is survived by her husband Glenn C. Lee; Daughter Sharon Frazier and husband Doug of New Madison; Son Michael Lee and wife Margaret of Greenville; Grandchildren Joanna Brown and husband Shannon, Joshua Lee and Fiancé Alissa Finfrock, Olivia Frazier and Amelia Frazier; Great Grandchildren Katie and Kaleb Brown; Sisters Gladys Mills of Brookville and Phyllis Hecathorn and husband Don of Clayton. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Pastor David Shetler officiating. Burial will follow in Wares Chapel Cemetery. Anita Short (December 15, 2009)

Anita Louise Bowers Short, 71, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Hospice Of Dayton. Beloved wife of Donald R. Short for 53 years was born in Richmond, Indiana on September 24, 1938, the daughter of the late Otho Dale and Zelma Ruth (Hoover) Bowers. She was an active self employed Antique Dealer and Genealogist. Anita authored many publications including "Gateway to the West", many genealogical record books, and articles for the Arcanum Historical Society. Mrs. Short was a member of D. A. R. serving as a Regent and Vice Regent. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Danelle Ann Short, and a brother Richard Bowers. Mrs. Short is survived by her husband Don R. Short; daughter Dana Sowry and husband Duane of Arcanum; Granddaughter Dwana Hughes of Columbus; Great Grandson Nick Hughes of Greenville; Sister D. June Ellison of Orlando, FL; and 2 nephews Brandon Ellison of Florida and Wildon Ellison family of Copley, Ohio. Private Family Services will be held at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Pastor Steve Short officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery.

Norman J. Brehm (December 15, 2009)

Norman J. Brehm, 60, of Arcanum, died at Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. Mr. Brehm was born in Greenville on October 21, 1949, the son of the late Homer JR and Gertrude (Shell) Brehm who survives. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum and a 1968 Graduate of Arcanum High School. Norman worked as a Security Supervisor at National City Bank, Dayton. Mr. Brehm was preceded in death by his Father JR Brehm and his Sister Janice Swem. He is survived by a Daughter Dana Patterson and husband Brandon of Ten Mile, TN; Sons Nathan Brehm and wife Pam of Sevierville, TN and Ian Brehm of Gatlinburg, TN; 5 Grandchildren Bridgette, Brennah, Brayden, and Jack Patterson and Ivy Maples; Mother Gertrude Brehm of Arcanum; and Brother Rev Leland Brehm and wife Ree of Derby, Ohio. Richard Peters (December 14, 2009)

Richard Peters, 63, of Arcanum died unexpectedly early Monday morning, December 14, 2009, at his residence. He was born February 16, 1946 in Dayton to George and Elizabeth (Moore) Peters. Richard retired from the former Dayton Tire and Rubber Co., Dayton in 1980. He also was self employed locally as a jack of all trades. Richard was a veteran of the Army during the Vietnam War, and a member of the Darke County Fish and Game Club. He was preceded in death by a grandson Justin Hill. Richard is survived by his wife Margaret (Detling) Peters whom he married February 21, 1967; daughters Valerie Peters, and Lisa Manning and her husband Doug both of Arcanum; sons David Peters of Fairborn, Mark Peters and wife Jamie of Arcanum; grandchildren Rachel Hardwick, Nicholas Manning, Derek Yohe, Christopher Manning, William Peters, Katherine Manning, his parents and a sister and a brother. Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home in Arcanum with Pastor Dan Kuhbander officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 PM Thursday evening until the time of the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Disabled American Veterans, 219 N. Karen A. Fourman (December 12, 2009)

After several years of declining health, Karen Fourman completed her life's journey and began her new life at 1:00 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Karen was born February 25, 1947, in Lafayette, Indiana, to the late Robert and Ardith (Beckner) Norris. She married Tom Lynn Fourman, of Arcanum, Ohio, on July 6, 1968.

She is the mother of two daughters, Heather (Greg) Heiser of Arcanum, and Emily (Bill) Millmine of Delphos, Ohio. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Joe, Maggie, and Audrey Heiser, and Lucas Millmine. Karen is preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Ritzhaupt of New Jersey. She is survived by another sister, Marsha (Hersh) Chambers, of Arlington, Indiana. Surviving nieces are Britton Ritzhaupt and Adrienne Sumpter.

Karen is a graduate of Houser High School, Hope, Indiana. She met her future husband at Earlham College, graduating in 1969. After teaching in the Arcanum Elementary School for several years, Karen attended United Theological Seminary, in Dayton. There, she earned a Masters of Divinity degree in 1993. She was appointed to the High Street United Methodist Church, in Springfield, Ohio, where she served for three years. She then served as pastor of the Mt. Blanchard UMC, in Mt. Blanchard, Ohio, where she served until 2007. Karen was active in the Emmaus Communities of Springfield and Findlay, Ohio Everyone that has been touched by Karen's life will always remember her for her joy, her strength and spiritual beauty; and the many people she led to a close relationship with Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. at Kreitzers' Funeral Home in Arcanum on Wednesday, December 16. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in Arcanum, at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 17. The Revs. Tom Hite and Ken Woode will be officiating. Burial is in the Abbottsville Cemetery.

Anthony K. Garrett (December 12, 2009)

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Kevin Garrett, 54, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10:24 AM at Hospice of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on August 1, 1955 in Greenville, Ohio to Mavis (Bratt) Garrett of Greenville, Ohio and the late Roger Garrett.

Tony was the Director of Manufacturing for Privatizer Systems Inc. He was a member of the United States Air Force for 9 years, graduate of Greenville High School in 1973, received an associates degree from the Community College of the Air Force in 1986 and then a Bachelors degree of Science Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University in 1988. Tony really enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and camping.

In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Garrett and step son, Kevin W. Fox Jr.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Shirley (Minnich) Garrett of Dayton, Ohio whom he married on October 14, 1997, daughter and son in law; Krystel and Josh Sherman of Fairborn, Ohio, sons and daughter in law; Steve and Heather Philpot of Florida and John K. Garrett of Huber Heights, Ohio, grandchildren; Nicholas, Alex and Kiersten Sherman, brothers and sisters in law; Colin and Cindy Garrett of Greenville, Ohio, Chris and Angie Garrett of Indianapolis, Indiana and David Garrett of Greenville, Ohio, sister and brother in law; Cheryl and Ed Baker of Greenville, Ohio, mother in law; Alice (Benson) Miller of Waverly, Ohio as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Joe Soley officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. There will be a gathering from 10:00 to noon on Thursday at the funeral home.

The Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a full military service. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Association or Hospice of Dayton.

Byron L. Rutan (December 9, 2009)

Mr. Byron L. Rutan, 89, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 9:30 AM at the Englewood Manor in Englewood, Ohio. He was born on August 23, 1920 in Preble County, Ohio to the late Harley C. & Laura L. (Ritz) Rutan.

Byron was self employed for 13 years, worked at F & N in Richmond, American Aggregates, and then retired from Belden in Richmond in 1982. He was a member of the United States Army serving in WWII, American Legion, VFW, and Universalist Church in New Madison, Ohio. He delivered meals for the Meals on Wheels, loved square dancing, traveling and was a member of a camping club.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Treva Button.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Harter) Rutan, formerly of Greenville, Ohio and is currently living in the Villas of Brookhaven in Brookville, Ohio; daughter and son in law, Jerolyn “Jeri” & Boyd Hastings of Brookville, Ohio; son and daughter in law, Phillip & Deborah Rutan of Englewood, Ohio; grandchildren, Phillip & Tina Hastings, Aaron & Meg Hastings, Adam & Amber Hastings, Melissa & Jason Heuker and Bradley & Amanda Rutan; great grandchildren, Evan, Connor, Owen and Cole Hastings.

There will be a service held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Ben Hastings officiating. James J. "Jim" VandenBosch, age 39 of rural Arlington passed away early Friday morning, December 4, 2009 at the Birchaven Health Care Center. Jim was born on December 27, 1969 in Dayton, OH to James A. and Mary E. (Rammel) VandenBosch and they survive in Greenville, OH. Carla J. Price and Jim were married on October 8, 1994 and she survives along with two children: Austin J. and Bryanna E. VandenBosch both at home. Jim has five sisters: Susan (Doug) Shields, Sarah (Ken) Rindler, Sandra, Sharon and Shirley VandenBosch all of Greenville, OH. Jim's in-laws: Joe and Elaine Price of Mt Blanchard and sister-in-laws: Rochelle (Jayson) Brake of Forest and Melanie (Kyle) Halcomb of Mt. Blanchard also survive. Jim was a self-employed contractor and farmer who enjoyed his work and took great pride in all his tasks. He was a member of Land Inprovement Contractors Association, he attended Mt. James M. Beare (December 5, 2009)

James M. Beare age 77 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 11:13 P.M. on Saturday, December 5, 2009 in the E.R. at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. James was born February 28, 1932 in Versailles, Ohio, to the late James A. & Bertha E. (Wagner) Gowdy Beare.

James was a C.P.A. at Murray Wells Wendeln & Robinson CPA Inc. in Troy until his retirement. He was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church, where he served on the official board of the Church. James graduated from Versailles High School with the Class of 1951. He also graduated from Miami Jacobs College with a Public Accounting Degree. James was very supportive of the Versailles Community, where he was born and raised.

In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by a brother in infancy; twin brother, Jack Beare; brothers, Norval Gowdy and Bill Renner; and sister, Myrna Gowdy Harp.

James is survived by his nieces, Sharon & Glen Seibert Craig of Versailles, Gloria Plock of Greenville, Susan & Harold Watson of Farmland, Indiana, Cheryl Shenefield of Wabash, Indiana; nephew, Bruce & Dana Harp of Peru, Indiana; great niece, Kimberly Seibert Coleman of Englewood; great nephews, Douglas Seibert of Versailles, Dave & Connie Seibert of Versailles, Dan & Renee’ Seibert of Versailles and Don & Cora Beare of Versailles.

James will be greatly missed by his family members that resided with him in the family home in Versailles; Douglas Seibert, Don & Cora Beare and Aaliyah & Aalyssa Osborne; as well as his great great nieces & nephews.

John V. Crowell, Jr. (December 4, 2009)

John V. Crowell Jr., age 46 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 1:25 P.M. on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Heartland of Greenville. John was born April 16, 1963 to Marilyn (DePoy) & Donald Hittle of Greenville and the late John V. Crowell.
John was a nurse’s assistant at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. He served in the U.S. Navy. John was the founding member of Clark Station Trio.

In addition to his father, John was also preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

In addition to his parents, John is survived by his sons, John V. Crowell, III and Ashton B.L. Crowell of Greenville; daughter, Cora Mae Crowell of Greenville; significant other, Tina Dispennette of Greenville; brother, Jeff Hittle of Greenville; sisters & brother-in-law, JoEllen (Crowell) & Gery Melling of Greenville and Jennifer (Hittle) McDaniel of Greenville; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, nieces and nephews.

Lenora S. Hiatt (December 1, 2009)

Mrs. Lenora S. “Nory” Hiatt, age 97 of Palestine, Ohio passed away at 10:55 A.M. Tuesday December 1, 2009 at Wayne Hospital Greenville, Ohio. She was born May 25, 1912 in Liberty Township Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Roy & Ota (Lowdenslager) Edwards.

Lenora was a homemaker, a School Cook at Liberty Local School, had worked at Rush’s Grocery of Palestine, also had worked as a baby sitter and some house cleaning.

She enjoyed sewing, shopping and being with her family. She also attended the Palestine Church of Christ and the Palestine Ladies Aid.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband—Ralph Hiatt March 15, 2003. They were married November 15, 1930. Also preceded in death by her son Duane Hiatt; Brothers Leonard & Raymond Edwards; and son in law Paul Ayette in 2006.

Lenora is survived by a daughter Margaret A. Ayette of Greenville; son and daughter in law Larry L. and Barb Hiatt of Greenville and daughter in law Dorothy Hiatt of Palestine. Also by grandchildren and their spouses—Tony and Joyce Ayette, Gary and Kathy Ayette, Randy and Coleen Ayette, Phil Ayette, Michelle and Dan Marker, Mike and Lori Ayette, Teresa Via, Cheryl and Tom Purdy, Curt and April Hiatt, Sonya and Scott Hill, Mark and Robin Hiatt and Marcia and Tony Sowry. Step grandchildren and spouses—Monte and Terri Clemens, Christy and Scott Evans, Angie and Keith Keiser and Kelly and Barry Paulus. Twenty Six great grandchildren and forty great great grandchildren. Mrs. Carolyn A. Schmidt, age 80 of Ansonia, Ohio passed away at 9:36 P.M. Sunday November 29, 2009 at the Versailles Health Care Center. Carolyn was born May 4, 1929 in Greenville, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late David Lee & Minnie (Printzing) Houpt.

Carolyn was retired from Corning Glass Inc.

She was an avid Hot Air Balloonists’, antique collector, involved in needle crafts and flowers and her dogs. She was also very well known as “The Waffle Lady of Ansonia” as she had given out waffles at Halloween to all the children for many many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband—Cornelius “Trappy” Schmidt June 29, 1978; also a brother Joe Houpt.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law—Sharon & Dr. Jay Noffsinger of O’Fallon, Ill., and Malinda & Hugh Linebaugh of Rossburg. Also her son and daughter in law—Neal & Lauren Schmidt of Greenville. Grandchildren—Jamie (John) Franklin, Julie (Craig) Kindsfater, Jill Stone, Dustin Schmidt, Jason Schmidt and Hannah Linebaugh. Also great grandchildren—Jaycen Franklin, Josten Franklin and Kari Kindsfater. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday December 3, 2009 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Rev. Eric Knight officiating. Daniel A. Moore (December 2, 2009)

Daniel A. Moore, 64, of New Madison, passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2009 at his residence. He was born December 25, 1944, son of the late Russell and Ethel (Piggott) Moore.

Daniel enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Daniel worked as a laborer for the Angelo DiPonio Construction Company in Michigan, and served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge 2177 and Moose Lodge in Greenville, and the American Legion in New Madison.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Swindler.

Daniel is survived by a son, Wayne R. Moore; a daughter, Marlena D. (Bryan) Bryant; two grandchildren, Andrea Bryant and Jeriah Moore; two brothers, Joseph L. Moore of Michigan and Paul E. Moore of Indiana; three sisters, Diane (Ted) Cook of Greenville, Rebecca Moore of New Madison and Tammy (Todd) Stewart of Wayne Lakes; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Lester A. Young (December 1, 2009)

Lester A. Young, 80, of Ansonia, passed away Tuesday evening, December 1, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

He was born in Ansonia, the son of the late Lester Ray and Myrtle Fae (Heeter) Young.

Lester had worked as a Mill Operator for the Ansonia Elevator for 16 years and Keller Grain and Feed for 10 years. He was a member of the Northside Community Fellowship in Greenville and a former member of the Annie Oakley Kampers.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley L. (Baker) Young, whom he married April 22, 1949; daughters, Barbara A. (David) Dudon of Ithaca, Rebecca L. (Dennis) Brockman of Centerville, OH, Betty L. Young of Dayton and Beth E. (Neal) Langenkamp of Union, OH; and 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Charlie) McCormick, Eric (Kate) Langenkamp, Sara (Brad) Statzer, Jessica (Tim) Ford and Julia Brockman; and great grandchildren, Josh McCormick, Addison McCormick and Will Ford.

A graveside service will be held at the Abbottsville Cemetery on Saturday, December 12 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Brown officiating.

Ronald D. Cunningham, 65, of Van Wert, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Van Wert County Hospital. Ronnie was a former resident of Greenville. Later he changed his residence to Van Wert Manor. He had been disabled most of his life. Mr. Cunningham was born in Greenville, on May 9, 1944, the son of the late Charles D. and Ruby (Stein) Cunningham. Ronald is survived by 2 sisters Carolyn Luginbuhl and husband Frank of Greenville and Jane Smith and husband Richard of Vacaville, CA; brother Roger Cunningham of Greenville; and nieces and nephews. Ruth E. Marshal age 91 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 4:30 A.M. on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Ruth was born April 25, 1918 in Willowdell, Ohio, to the late Edward & Lillie (Meeds) Banks.

Ruth was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown; St. Ann’s Sodality and Versailles Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents; Ruth is also preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Marshal on October 29, 1984, whom she married February 5, 1936; son, Michael Marshal; daughter, Patricia Marshal; grandsons, Ricky Marshal and Tony Drees; son-in-law, Paul Drees; and brother, Donald Banks.

Ruth is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law, Robert Marshal of Versailles and Bill & Barb Marshal of Versailles; daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Carl Drees of Versailles, Judy & Marvin Schmiesing of Anna and Deborah & Fred Bruns of Versailles; daughter-in-law; Lois Marshal Drees of Versailles; 17 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Freda Banks of Versailles and Alma Treon of Versailles.

Robert L. “Bob” Dieringer, 74, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 7:30 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born on February 2, 1935 in Celina, Ohio to the late Glenn David Dieringer and Elizabeth Ann (Davis) Varady.

Bob worked in the banking business for 40 years. He worked for the Peoples National Bank in Versailles for 17 years, then for Arcanum National Bank and retired from Greenville National Bank.

He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Graduate School of Banking. Past Master of the Versailles Masonic Lodge, No. 209 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite – Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Past President and Director of the Community Bankers Association of Ohio, Past President of the Darke County Bankers Association, Board of Directors of the Darke County Mental Health Board, Past President of the Versailles Development Association, member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Piqua, Ohio. Bob loved to play Golf.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. (Bidwell) Dieringer of Versailles, Ohio whom he married on August 9, 1957; sons and daughters in law, Tracy Dieringer of Coppell, Texas, Craig & Sue (Dunwoody) Dieringer of Albion, Michigan, Marc & Karla Dieringer of Versailles, Ohio and Scott & Dana Dieringer of Sidney, Ohio; grandchildren, Jamie Compton, Jandie Dieringer, Aaron Dieringer, Micheal Dieringer, Ashton Dieringer, Kyle Dieringer, Corey Dieringer, Alyssa Dieringer, Matthew Dieringer and Lindsey Dieringer; sister and brother in law, Patricia & Steve Gard of Dayton, Ohio; sister in law, Zita Bidwell of St. Mary’s, Ohio as well as some nieces and nephews.

Mary V. Etzler, 85, of Greenville, died early Saturday morning, November 28, 2009, at the Brethren Retirement Community. Mary was a former resident of the Arcanum area. She was born January 14, 1924 in Darke County to the late Perry A. and Pearl C (Sleeth) McGriff. On her Mother's death, Mary was raised by her father and stepmother Anna McGriff. She was a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church and former member of the Savona United Methodist Church. Mary was a farm wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell E. Etzler who died January 29, 1994; 5 sisters Doris Miller, Merle McAfee, Geneva Riegle, Garnett Trump, Naomi McGriff, and 2 brothers Robert and Kenneth McGriff. Mrs. Etzler is survived by 3 daughters, Sandra Bluhm and husband Harry of Tipp City, Linda Shepperd and husband Bill of Palm Harbor, FL., Sheryl Jared and husband John of Kansas City, MO.; Son Jack Etzler and wife Anne of Arcanum; 3 granddaughters , Andrea Bluhm, Katie Jared, and Ashleigh Hoskey. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev Steve Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery. Lela E. Fourman (November 27, 2009)

Lela Elizabeth Fourman, 101, of 750 Chestnut St., Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 1:55 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on August 7, 1908 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Margaret (Fasick) Fourman and Edward Fourman. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Fourman and Carl Fourman.

Lela spent most of her life on a farm west of West Milton, Ohio. She taught children’s Sunday School in West Milton Church of the Brethren for many years. She later transferred her membership to the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

As a trained practical nurse she worked in the obstetrics department at Stouder Hospital in Troy and in the Brethren’s Home medical center from 1958 through 1974. She became a resident of the home in 1973.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel with Pastor Bob Bitner and Pastor Todd Reish officiating. There will be a private burial held at the Riverside Cemetery in West Milton, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Brethren Home Resident Aid Fund.

Jean Coppock Brumbaugh (November 26, 2009)

A life long resident of Greenville, Ohio, Eugene Suzanna Coppock Brumbaugh (Jean), 102 years old, died Thanksgiving morning at the Brethren Retirement Community where she had lived for the past 5 years.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Emily and her husband attorney William David Brumbaugh, Jr., her parents, Maude E. and Fred D. Coppock and sister Dorothy Hole.

Jean attended Dana Hall Preparatory School and Pine Manor College, Wellesley, Mass. and the Art Students League in NYC. She received her teacher’s degree from Leslie College, Cambridge, Mass. later teaching kindergarten in Greenville at the Memorial Hall.

Jean married W. D. Brumbaugh, Jr., (W.D.) in 1934. During their long and happy marriage they found the time and resources to give back to their community. Jean, with W.D. and her father (Fred D. Coppock) became a strong supporter of the City Park through land donations and contributions for the Girl Scout Little House.

Jean and W.D. were life long supporters of the Garst Museum making important gifts to the museum for the physical expansion of its facilities and helping to secure the Lowell Thomas collection for the museum. Their interests in Wayne Hospital, resulted in the establishment of a nurses’ scholarship in 1982. She was a life long member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Greenville.

Family and friends will remember Jean as a reserved, gentle, loving wife and mother, who encouraged achievement in education and art appreciation.

She is survived by a son, Fred (Sally) Brumbaugh, grandsons Peter ( Marianne) Brumbaugh, Samuel (Galaxy) Brumbaugh, a step-granddaughter Erynn (Tom) Scollard; daughter Hilda (John) Mangel, grandsons John (Kathryn) Mangel, William David (Kelly) Mangel; daughter Martha (Edward) Furman, grandson Guy Furman, three step-grandchildren Jody Furman Zafrir, Steve Furman and Tom Furman;10 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren.

Toby L. Matthew (November 25, 2009)

Toby L. Matthew, 65, of Ansonia, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 25, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton.

He was born in Greenville, the son of the late Don and Marciel "Toni" (Toman) Matthew.

Toby had worked as a self employed contractor, a Jailer at the Darke County Sheriff's Office and most recently was an associate at GTI in Greenville. He was a member of the Greenville Elk's Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Kornacki) Matthew; his children, Terri (fiancee Nick Flora) Hunt, Trudy Buchy and Todd (Cathy) Matthew all of Greenville; a step son, Benjamin Crosby of Ansonia; grandchildren, Reece, Laine, Kirstie, Sydney, Aaron, Jacob, Kelsie, Brian and Dustin; a sister, Trudy (Tony) Tuttwiller of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Heather and husband Darren Voke and daughter Morgan, and Amy and Derek Tutwiller.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Frederic E. Rush (November 24, 2009)

Fredric “Fred” Emil Rush, 61, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 5:37 AM at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1948 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Gene & Julia G. (McCarty) Rush.

Fred worked at Whirlpool for 37 years and was a member of the United States Air Force. He was a former member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles in Greenville. He loved taking walks in the woods, bird watching and golf.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Rush and sister in law, Effie Rush.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Hampshire) Rush of Greenville, Ohio whom he married on December 31, 1986; daughters and son in law, Tammy Swartz of Greenville, Ohio and her children, Daniel, Taylor, and Andrew; Tonya (Chris) Curfew of Indiana and their children, Brandon, Alex, Corbin and Morgan; step daughters and sons in law, Elizabeth (Randy) Wombolt of Greenville, Ohio and their children, Dustin (Abigail) Wombolt, Cody (Nicole) Wombolt, Megan (Rob) Taylor, Candy Cook and Bob Werner of Greenville, Ohio and their children, Nicholas Brant, Chelsea Brant and Cheyenne Werner, Sandy (Ron) Rehmert of Union City, Ohio and their children, Brandon Rehmert and Shelby Rehmert, Jeanie (Mike) Turner of Union City, Indiana and their children, Ramie Turner and Brianne Turner; 4 great grandchildren; brothers and sister in law, James & Kwana Rush of Cantonment, Florida and Ronald Rush of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

A full military service will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Duane J. Turner (November 23, 2009)

Mr. Duane J. Turner, age 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:45 A.M. Monday November 23, 2009 at the Sidney Care Center. Duane was born March 31, l924 in Chetopa, Kansas. He was the son of the late James & Grace (Wittner) Turner.

Duane was retired as the owner/operator of “Big D’s Printing Co.” of Greenville. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. A very active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Greenville and a member of the Church Choir. Also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and a Life member of the V.F.W. all of Greenville as well. Also had worked as a Hospice volunteer and played Harmonica for the Hospice Band. Duane was also one of the founding members of the local Optimist Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter—Judy Turner; brothers—Loren, Mewburn, Byron, Dale and Estes. Also by his twin sister—Doris Coffee.

He is survived by his wife—Dorothy (Roth) Turner of Greenville. They were married August 23, l945. Also sons and daughters in law—Dennis & Nancy Turner of Dixon, Ill., and Gary & Candice Turner of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Daughters and sons in law—Nancy & Bob Stolberg of Boise, Idaho, Gail & Jim Snyder of Greenville, Joyce & Art Price of Piqua, Janet & Dave McClanahan of Columbus, Ohio and Peggy & Jeff Heinze of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Also 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Sisters—Treva Ballard of Calif. and Shirley Dale of Calif. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday November 28, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will be held at the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 till 8 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Prayers being recited at 4:30 at the Funeral Home.

Howard M. Snyder, 55, of Greenville, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Snyder was born in Dayton on November 10, 1954, the son of the late Kenneth M. Snyder and Dorothy M. (Flory) Snyder who survives. Howard was a retired Corning Glass employee, and a 1973 graduate of Arcanum High School. He is survived by his Mother Dorothy Snyder of Arcanum; sister Marcilyn Combs and husband Timothy of Huber Heights; Brothers Larry Snyder and wife Linda of Arcanum and Neal Snyder and wife Alicia of Ft. Myers, FL; and Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held Noon Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, with Pastor Dan Kuhbander officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 1 hour before the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty J. Newbauer (November 21, 2009)

Betty J. Newbauer, 75, of Versailles, Ohio, passed on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 8:44 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. She was born on September 16, 1934 in Preble County, Ohio to the late Asa Elmer & Abbie Auda (Vail) Rhodehamel. Betty was a housewife.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Newbauer whom she married on January 12, 1965 and 6 siblings.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Allen & Heather Newbauer of Ansonia, Ohio and brother, Gene Rhodehamel of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor James Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friend one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Naomi Rife (November 21, 209)

Naomi Doris (Strawser) Rife, 83, of Germantown and formerly of New Madison, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at her residence. Naomi was born on November 17, 1926, daughter of the late Josh and Clara (Kreitzer) Strawser.

Naomi was a self employed Beautician during her life. She was a member of the Castine Church of the Brethren, and volunteer for meals on wheels with her husband. Naomi and her husband Glen started the first 4-H horse and pony club “Silver Hoofs” in Darke County. Naomi enjoyed fishing, boating, sitting on the back porch and feeding the birds and squirles and most of all she loved people and enjoyed life.

In addition to her parents, Naomi is preceded in death by her husband Glen, whom she married on January 7, 1944. Two brothers, Ohmer Strawser and Jesse Strawser.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Rife of Germantown; a close friend, Dennie Tucker and a sister, Catherine Good of New Madison.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Storch Braund Funeral Home . Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 also at the funeral home with Rev. Judy A. Howell, age 58 of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and formerly of the Darke County Ohio area passed away on Friday November 20, 2009 at her residence in Ft. Wayne. She was born July 20, 1951 in Celina, Ohio and the daughter of the late James P. & Ruth E. (Stoll) Howell.

Judy was a member of the Blackhawk Baptist Church of Ft. Wayne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Step Mother Mary Howell.

She is survived by her brother and sister in law—Douglas J. & Jackie Howell of Rossburg, Ohio; step brother—Virgil Combs; nephews—Max (Kelly) Guillozet and Douglas J. (Becky) Howell Jr.; great nephews—D.J. Howell III, Damon Howell and Kyler Guillozet; a great niece—Makenna Guillozet; first cousins—Wayne & Janet Donner as well as numerous other aunts and uncles.

Jean Ann Rhoades, 71, of Greenville, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 5:45 AM at her residence. She was born on October 11, 1938 in Union City, Indiana to the late Ray & Ruth (Trobridge) Hummel.

She was a self employed Accountant. She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and the Swinging 8’s Square Dance Club.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe K. Rhoades.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Ronda & Richard Myers of Minooka, IL, and Malinda & Jeff Quinn of Greenville, OH; son and daughter in law, Keith & Marlene Rhoades of Greenville, OH; grandchildren, Emily Myers, Brian Myers, Hannah Quinn, Aaron Quinn, Edward Rhoades, Obadiah Rhoades, Malachi Rhoades and Patrick Rhoades; brother and sister in law, James & Karen Hummel of Union City, OH; sister and brother in law, Jerilyn & Dan Lester of Union City, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. Alverda A. Bowman (November 20, 2009)

Alverda A. “Birdie’ Bohman age 95 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 12:40 A.M. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Alverda was born December 12, 1913 in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Felix E. & Estella (Bulcher) Subler.

In her earlier years she had been employed at Delco Moraine in Dayton, and during WWII at Aeroproducts in Vandalia, while her husband was in the European theater serving our Country. She was an avid gardener and was well known for her prize winning roses. Along with her late husband, Alverda loved flying, boating and fishing for the big ones. Alverda was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella; a former member of San Pablo Catholic Church in Marathon, Florida, and a former member of the International Flying Farmers.

In addition to her parents, Alverda is also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur J. “Bill” Bohman on May 27, 1992, whom she married November 20, 1941; step mother, Bertha Goffena Subler; brother, Carl J. Subler; infant sister, Catherine Subler; half sister, Mary Ann Berger; step brother, Marion Goffena; step sisters, Rita Hannan, Eileen Batty and Patricia Dabbelt.

Alverda is survived by her brothers & sister-in-law, Kenneth Subler of Versailles and Basil & Annabel Subler of Versailles; sister-in-law, Krista Subler of Versailles; half brother, John & Isabella Subler of Versailles; half sister, Doris Monnin of Versailles; and numerous nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, with Rev. Fr. David Vincent and Rev. Fr. Angelo Castera celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. Alma M. Grilliot (November 19, 2009)

Alma M. Grilliot age 88 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 8:50 A.M. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Versailles Health Care Center. Alma was born April 23, 1921 in Osgood, Ohio, to the late Fred & Agnes (Heitkamp) Bruns.

Alma formerly worked at the Buckeye in Coldwater and Monarch in Sidney. She was also a homemaker. Alma was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and the Daughters of Isabella of the church.

In addition to her parents, Alma is also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Grilliot on February 17, 2002, whom she married October 24, 1942; brothers, Wilbert B. “Web” & Lawrence Bruns; sister, Sylvina Poeppleman; and brothers-in-law, Linus Poeppleman, Ed Boerger and Greg Luebke.

Alma is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Richard & Shirley Grilliot of Ansonia and Roger & Sandy Grilliot of Versailles; daughters & sons-in-law, Barbara & Lorys Bohman of Osgood and Diane & Ralph Kunk of Russia; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sisters & brothers-in-law, Emerita Boerger of Ft. Loramie, Irene & Art Lochtefeld of Yorkshire, Marie & Tom Moorman of St. Henry and Joann Luebke of Ft. Loramie; sisters-in-law, Kelly Bruns of Frenchtown and Mary Bruns of Osgood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Freda M. Marker, 89, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 6:07 PM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born on February 24, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio to the late A. D. & Chloris (Golditz) Zeller.

Freda worked at Corning Glass as a Quality Control Inspector and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Greenville.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth H. Marker, brother George Zeller and sister, Inez Lutz.

She is survived by son & daughter in law, Richard “Dick” & Elaine Marker of Ft. Myers, Florida, grandchildren; Kent & Chin Hui Marker, Vicki & Tony Meinerding and Scott & Janette Marker, great grandchildren; Heather Drew, Brandon Drew, Courtney Lephart and Macie Marker as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ruth J. (Rue) Strait, 76, of Union City, OH and formerly of New Weston, OH, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.

She was born in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Cara A. and Sally Jane (Howard) Rue. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Strait in 1992; sons, Gary Strait in 2001 and Charles Robert Strait in 2005; a daughter, Renea Strait in 2000; brothers, Cary E. Rue and George M. Rue; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Rue.

Ruth was retired from Fram/Allied Signal in Greenville where she had worked for over 40 years. She was a member of the former New Weston United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Gale Strait-Vasquez of Rockford, OH; granddaughters, Laura Maria Vasquez, Stacy Vasquez-Wickey, Andrea Vasquez, Scarlet Amber Strait and Brandy Strait; great grandchildren, Seth, Selena, Javier, Kali, Anthony, Kara and Benjamin "BJ"; brothers, Jimmy H. (Cathy) Rue and Jerry Rue both of Union City, OH; a sister, Peggy (Allen) Thwaits of Celina; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH, with the Rev. Travis Combest officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Shook's Chapel Cemetery near Rossburg, OH.

Norene F. Renfro (November 17, 2009)

Norene F. (Fletcher) Renfro, 83, of Greenville and formerly of Overton Texas, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born in Greenville, the daughter of the late Harry Victor and Eva (Aten) Fletcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Renfro on November 26, 1997; brothers, Herman, Roscoe and Chester Fletcher; and sisters, Frances Wilt and Thelma Marie Fletcher.

A homemaker, Norene spent most of her adult life in Louisiana, Arkansas, and eastern Texas areas.

She is survived by a brother, Richard A. (Charlotte) Fletcher of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 20, at 11 a.m. at the Abbottsville Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Oser officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

Janet D. (Klepinger) Richards, 73, of Hollansburg, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2009 at her residence. She is the daughter of the late Vance and Olga Klepinger.

Janet was a retired teacher of Bellbrook Schools and enjoyed shopping and spending time with her husband.

She is survived by her husband Gary Richards of Hollansburg and a brother Lee Klepinger of Washington State.

Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward (November 11, 2009)

Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward, 87, of Eldorado, passed away on November 11, 2009, at the Hospice of Dayton. Carrie was born on June 19, 1922 daughter of the late Earl and Viola Hawkey.

Carrie retired as a head cook for the CR Coblentz School District. She was a member of the ETA PI KAPPA Sorority andenjoyed bowling, reading, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Ray Ward on June 28, 1941.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carrie is preceded in death by a son, James Ward and a son-in-law, Larry Shaffer.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Linda Shaffer of Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Diana Ward of New Madison; four grandchildren, Sherri (Randy) Sparks of Richmond, Julie (Brian) Sandlin of Richmond, Jon Ward (special friend Valerie Tegmeyer) of Greenville and Keith (Stephanie) Ward of Enon; eight great-grand children, Kevon Sparks, Ashlei Sparks, Brian Sandlin, Jr., Tyler Sandlin, Katalina Ward, Johnene Ward, James Ward, Logan Ward; one brother, Carl “Bud” (Juanita) Hawkey of New Madison.

Visitation will be from 6:00– 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. Wayne A. Yount (November 12, 2009)

Wayne A. Yount, 81, of Greenville, passed away Thursday morning, November 12, 2009 at his residence.

He was born in Greenville, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Rue) Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Steven W. Yount on July 6, 1995; brothers, Jack and Eugene; and a sister Tolitha.

A veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict, Wayne had worked most of his life as a florists having worked for Plessinger Brothers Florists and then 30+ years at Will's Greenhouse in Greenville.

He is survived by his children, Dean Yount of Lafayette, IN, John (Patty) and Doug Yount both of Greenville, Marianna (Ron) Edwards of Bradford and Connie Yount of Worthington, OH; 21 grandchildren,; 15 great grandchildren; and brothers, Walter Yount, Jr. of New Paris, and Marvin Yount of Greenville.

Graveside services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at the Brock Cemetery, Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Hoeflich officiating.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Michael Lee Miller (November 11, 2009)

Mr. Michael Lee Miller of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:30 PM Wednesday, November 11th at Wayne Hospital.

Michael was born on September 4th, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Marjorie P. Miller and the late Howard C. Miller Jr.

Michael worked over 40 years as an Independent Athletic Awards Salesman beginning with Neff Lettering, Greenville, Ohio.

Michael is survived by his wife Mrs. Judy Lee (Bisel) Miller of Greenville, OH. They were married July 2nd 1972. Also his 3 sons Michael Plessinger II, John Plessinger, and Stewart Lee Miller, 3 sisters Dona J. (Miller) Kopka, Pamela S (Miller) Hopper and the late Kathleen F (Miller) Applegate, and several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation and Memorial Service will be at Presbyterian Church 114 East Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio on November 21st. The Visitation will commence at 9:00 AM followed by the Memorial Service 10:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. John Person officiating.

Bobby L. Coby (November 11, 2009)

Bobby L. Coby age 75 of Union City, Ohio passed away at 12:49 P.M. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Bobby was born January 26, 1934 in Mercer County, Ohio, to the late Oliver & Mary (Goodpaster) Coby.

Bobby was retired. He was a member of the Union City, Indiana, Eagles Lodge #2790 and American Legion of Union City, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is also preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Coby Jr.; brothers, Gerald and Wayne Coby; and sister, Betty Murphy.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Ocellia “Ozzie” (Garland) Coby, whom he married December 15, 1975. He is also survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, Douglas & Judy Coby, Sr. of Bradford, Darrell & Judy Coby of Greenville and Darren Coby of Greenville; daughters & sons-in-law, Roberta & Ron Beyke of Versailles and Farah & Kenneth Grewe of Union City, Indiana; grandchildren, Monica Coby, Leanna Coby, Nikki Coby, Kylie Beyke, Matthew Beyke, Kaitlyn Hughes and Kayden Grewe; numerous step children, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step great grandchildren; brothers & sister-in-law, Everett Junior & Ruby Coby of Greenville and Larry Coby of Lynn, Indiana; sister & brother-in-law, Dorothy & Jack Schmidt of Celina; sister-in-law, Martha Coby of Celina and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Don Avore officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. There will be an Eagles Lodge of Sorrow held at 4:45 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home conducted by the Union City Eagles Lodge #2790. Mervin B. Schulze (November 9, 2009)

Mervin B. Schulze age 80 of Versailles passed away at 9:15 P.M. on Monday, November 9, 2009 at his residence. Mervin was born April 22, 1929 in Celina, Ohio, to the late Joseph & Clara (Bergman) Schulze.
Mervin retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he was a project supervisor with 34 years of service. Mervin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mervin was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Versailles Knights of Columbus; Versailles American Legion and the Versailles Eagles. Mervin played for the Osgood Crackers in the Western Ohio Baseball League. Mervin enjoyed bowling, playing cards and camping.

In addition to his parents; Mervin is also preceded in death by his step mother, Mary Huber Schulze and an infant sister.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Eileen (Drees) Schulze, whom he married April 30, 1953. he is also survived by sons & daughters-in-law, Jerry & Judy Schulze of Celina, Thomas Schulze of Versailles, Randy & Kathy Schulze of Fremont and Jon & Shelly Schulze of Versailles; a daughter & son-in-law, Kay & Tom Francis of Versailles; grandchildren, Jennifer & Dan Jacobs, Joe Schulze, Billy & Stephanie Dirksen, Teresa Schulze, Kyle & Jenny Francis, Caden Schulze and Logan Schulze; and great grandchildren, Samantha, Savannah and Alexis Jacobs and Carter Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. Lola F. Sullenbarger (November 4, 2009)

Lola F. Sullenbarger age 67 of New Madison, Ohio, passed away at 2:57 P.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana; after a courageous battle with cancer. Lola was born July 3, 1942 in Letcher County, Kentucky, to the late Torrence & Emogene (Pigman) Warrick.

Lola retired from Kroger in Greenville where she was the front end manager.

In addition to her parents, Lola is also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Warrick.

Lola is survived by her husband, Tony Sullenbarger, Jr., whom she married March 21, 1987. She is also survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Lydia & Bruce Campbell of Richmond, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael & Andrea Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, Adam Smith of Indiana University, Scott Campbell of Richmond, Indiana, and Sarah & Ryan Hughes of Pataskala, Ohio; sister, Lilly Cook of Maysville, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Warrick of Monticello, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Maggie & Joey.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Snell Cemetery in Darke County, Ohio, with Rev. Lowell Miller officiating. Maurice VonWihl (November 3, 2009)

Maurice VonWihl, 84, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, November 3, 2009 in Greenville.

He was born in Elizabeth, KY, son of the late John VonWihl and Rosa (Putz) VonWihl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Mae VonWihl.

Maurice was a bartender for the American Legion. He attended Greenville High School until he entered the Army where he served in the Pacific during WWII.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Skiles of Greenville; a son Mark Copp; a sister Jeanette "Tootsie" Jenkinson in addition to grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A public graveside service will be held at the Greenville Cemetery Saturday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. with Father White officiating.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Mary's Catholic School.

Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Rolland E. Bruner (November 2, 2009)

Rolland E. Bruner age 84 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 5:50 P.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Rolland was born January 5, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Bertie & Viola (Fryman) Bruner.

Rolland retired from Hobart KitchenAid in Greenville in 1986, where he was a factory worker. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Gunners Mate 2nd class on the LSM 27, serving in the Pacific. Rolland was a 1943 graduated of Ansonia High School. Rolland was a former member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenville. Rolland was a member of the Whirlpool Retirees; LSM Association; Greenville V.F.W. and Greenville American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Rolland was also preceded in death by his wife, Alta M. (McClancy) Bruner; brothers, Harry, Martin and Albert Bruner; and sisters, Lovina Shaner and Onda Gant.

Rolland is survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Alicia A. & Wayne Hickerson of Van Wert and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Ronald Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. James R. Greer (November 1, 2009)

James R. Greer, age 97 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday November 1, 2009 at 4:55 AM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born August 13, 1912 in Bradford, Ohio the son of the late Clarence & Bertha (Michael) Greer. He retired from General Motors-Delco Products of Dayton, where he had been employed for 25 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Wife of 61 years Catherine M. (Morris) Greer on April 7, 2001; Daughter in law: Jerry Lou Greer; Brother: Andrew Greer; Sisters: Mary Lafern Greer, Infant sister Margaret Geraldine Greer, & Olive Greer.

He is survived by his Son Gary Greer of Greenville; Granddaughter & husband: Lori & Greg Schmidt of Greenville; Brothers: Denver Greer of Bradford, & Floyd & Virginia Greer of Versailles.

Services will be held on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Lowell Miller officiating. Shirley E. Tinkle (November 1, 2009)

Mrs. Shirley E. Tinkle, 74, of New Madison and formally of Ridgeville, Indiana passed away peaceably at Rest haven Nursing Facility in Greenville on November 1, 2009 after a brief illness. She is a native of Ridgeville, having been born there on June 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Charles and Conchetta (Stouder) Wooters.

After her marriage to John Tinkle on May 6, 1952 she traveled to many different locations as he was a member of the United Stated Air Force. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in April 1969 they returned to Ridgeville and resided there until they moved to New Madison in 2001

She had several joys in life besides her grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Her greatest acheivment was obtaining her private pilots licence. Other hobbies included the traveling she did while her husband was in the service, being a foster parent for many years, and the cooking and canning of the fruits and vegitables that there yearly garden produced.

She is survived by her loving husband, CMSgt John Tinkle, retired,; three sons, Barry and wife Gwen Tinkle of New Madison, Doug Tinkle of Georgia and Johnnie and wife Chris Tinkle of West Milton; a daughter Star Darling and special friend Frank Valensi of Florida; an adopted daughter Brenda Weeks of Florida. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; a sister Sue and husband Ernie Coleman of Tampa, Florida; a brother James and wife Loretta Wooters of Fairview, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant brother.

There will be no public visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

It is the wishes of the family that the memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice in Greenville.

Alice Jean Wagner, 87, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 4:32 PM at Sunrise of Englewood, Englewood, Ohio. She was born on July 1, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio to the late H. Verl & Mary (Niswonger) Wright.

She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Ralph R. Wagner whom she married on April 12, 1941.

She is survived by daughters and sons in law; Beth & Gary Ehlinger of New Carlisle, Ohio and Gail & Forrest Cope of Clayton, Ohio, grandchildren; Tom (Valerie) Cope, Mike (Kim) Cope, Danielle (Justin) Cope-Pettibone, Matthew (Amy) Ehlinger and Nathan (Melissa White) Ehlinger, 11 great grandchildren, sisters and brother in law; Thelma Studebaker of New Carlisle, Ohio Kay & Dick Weherley of Englewood, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.

Norma Mae Utz age 80 of Versailles passed away at 12:52 A.M. on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Norma was born July 12, 1929 in Mercer County, Ohio, to the late Oscar & Marie (Baker) Schaadt.

Norma was a homemaker. She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Norma is also preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer Utz; grandson, Kenneth Michael Utz; and sisters, Anna Lee Kohlhorst, Bonnie Martens and Margaret Rismiller.

Norma is survived by her sons, Phil Utz of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Eddie Utz of Columbus, Ohio, and Chris Utz of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; daughters, Patty Utz of Loraine, Ohio, Vicki Kohne of Lyndon Station, Wisconsin, and Karen Utz of Greenville; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and sisters, Rosemary Knapke of Celina and Lois Gross of Troy.

David Dwight Runner (October 28, 2009)

Mr. David Dwight Runner, 68, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 6:23 PM at his residence. He was born on November 15, 1940 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late William “Bill” & Violet (Riffle) Runner.

David retired from the Union City Body Company and also worked at the Dayton Daily News for many years. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting and antique tractors.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death his wife, Alice Kay Runner whom he married on June 1, 1962; son, William Dwight “Bud” Runner; son in law, Allan Jay “A.J.” Byram; 1 brother and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law; Cary & Sherry Runner of Greenville, Ohio, daughter; Roxann Byram of Greenville, Ohio, grandchildren; Kaley Byram and Addison Byram, brother and sister in law; Duard “Doc” & Jean Runner of Greenville, Ohio, sister and brother in law; Martha & John Singleman of Greenville, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Tommy A. Thompson (October 28, 2009)

Tommy A. Thompson, 58, of Greenville, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 28, 2009 at his residence.

He was born in Greenville, son of the late Robert and Delores (Boyer) Thompson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dixie Beckett.

Tom had worked for several years for Marsh Supermarket/Lo-Bill's in Greenville. He later worked for Fauricua in Troy and part time for 9 months at Eikenberry's Super Value.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gloria B. (Mayo) Thompson, whom he married September 25, 1971; a daughter, Kyrie R. Thompson of Greenville; a grandson, Ty Alan Thompson of Greenville; brothers, Dwight (Sue) Thompson and Joe (Cheryl) Thompson both of Greenville; a sister, Linda (Kerry) Ungericht of Greenville; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, October 31 at 11 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Chris Barhorst officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlinton Cemetery near Brookville.

Edythe L. Martin (October 28, 2009)

Edythe L. Martin, 90, of Greenville and formally of Kissimmee Florida, passed away at Wayne Hospital on October 28, 2009. Edythe is the daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Jordan) Martin.

Edythe is the former owner of the Dairy Freeze in West Manchester, Ohio.

Edythe is preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Ralph Martin; one sister Opal Teaford; two grandsons and one granddaughter.

She is survived by a son, Donald Simpson of Arcanum; one daughter C. Sue Frankman (Richard) of Kissimmee, Florida; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a step sister, Jane Miller (Richard) and special nieces, Kay Grounds (Bobby) and Connie Manning both of Indiana.

Services will be held in Greenmound Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009 with the Rev. Richard Frankman being asked to officiate.

Mr. Robert “Longie” Longfellow Jr., 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 12:37 PM at his residence. He was born on September 21, 1925 in Union City, Ohio to the late Robert & Clara (St. John) Longfellow Sr.

He was retired from the United States Military and was a member of the Greenville Elks, American Legion and VFW and was a 52 years member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge #143. Longie also loved to paint.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Larry Longfellow and daughter Nan Payne as well as 2 sisters and 1 brother.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Altick) Longfellow of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on August 7, 1970; daughters, Linda McCullough of McKinney, Texas, Cathy Dotson of Anna, Texas, Teressa McGuire of Greenville, Ohio, and Steffanie Baker of Savannah, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Kay & Ed Curry of Greenville, Ohio; special niece, Denise O’Dell of Greenville, Ohio, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. 

There will be a service held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Samuel Hoeflich officiating.
