Joanna K. Ault (December 13, 1920 - May 27, 2009)

Mrs. Joanna K. Ault, age 88 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born December 13, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edward & Zylpha (Fisher) Kester. She was a garment designer for Royal Garment in Ansonia and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: George R. Ault on Feb. 14, 2006; Brother: George Kester; Sister: Lu Emma Baughman.

She is survived by her sons & daughters in law: Ed & Gloria Ault of Greenville, Rob & Joy Ault of Port Clinton, Ohio; Grandchildren & spouses: Laurie & Troy Otis, Troy & Melanie Ault, Amy & Tim Storkel, Steve & Carrie Ault; 8 Great Grandchildren.

Services will be held on Saturday May 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Joe Soley officiating. Burial will follow in Ansonia Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday May 29, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or The Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund.

James R. Hupman (January 28, 1918 - May 27, 2009)

James ‘Jim’ R. Hupman, 91, of Greenville passed away at Heartland on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 after suffering from a stroke almost 9 years ago.

He was born in Greenville on January 28, 1918, son of the late Samuel Moses ‘Mose’ and Artie Belle Hupman and had lived in the local area all of his life. Jim was an airplane mechanic in WWII for the army and from that experience learned to fix about anything that broke on the farm. Jim and his wife Rosalie moved back to his homestead in 1961 while raising their four children. Jim was an avid farmer raising over 100 head of Polled Herford cattle. He also had an egg business delivering fresh eggs all over the Miami Valley for 45 years. In 1994, Jim and Rosalie were honored by the state of Ohio for their century family-owned farm. Jim was a hard worker and loved his family. Before his stroke, Jim loved visiting with his friends up at McDonalds.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Rosalie (Bower) Hupman whom he married on August 21, 1945; four children, Rita and husband Gary McCans of Greenville, John and wife Kathy Hupman of Greenville, Mary Morgan of Vandalia, and Ruth and husband Michael Stoots of Cincinnati; 6 grandchildren, David and Jennie McCans, Kristin (McCans) and Eric Fee, Jessica (Stoots) and Rob Reuthe, Jason Hupman, Jeremy Hupman, and Joseph Stoots; and 6 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be Saturday, May 30th from 2-4 PM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Fee being asked to officiate. A celebration of life funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 4:00 PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.storchbraundfuneralhome.com.

D. Jane Fryman (December 17, 1927 - May 26, 2009)

D. Jane (Mikesell) Fryman, 81, of Arcanum, passed away on May 26, 2009. She was born December 17, 1927 to the late Harry and Esma Irene (Stoner) Mikesell.
She is survived by these special people in her life, her husband of 61 years, Robert, daughter Roberta J. Simon, granddaughter Angela L. Simon, great granddaughter Lilah Jane Ball, sister Mary E. Geeting and three nieces.

It was her wish to donate her body to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison with the Rev. Dan Kuhbander being asked to officiate.

Family asked that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice. Donations will be accepted at the memorial service.

Cheryl J. Metzger (May 5, 1933 - May 28, 2009)

Cheryl Metzger, 76, of Arcanum, died peacefully Thursday evening, May 28, 2009 surrounded by her family at the Brethren Retirement Community. Mrs. Metzger was born in Arcanum on May 5, 1933, the daughter of the late Raymond and Clara (Rismiller) Harter. She loved traveling and enjoyed having a good time. Cheryl was an avid golfer and played on several traveling leagues. When she was younger she was a trend setter by becoming one of the area's first female school bus drivers. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Ithaca. Mrs. Metzger was preceded in death by her son-in-law David Leesman. Cheryl is survived by her husband Ben Metzger, whom she married Oct 6, 1951; Daughters Linda Leesman of Dayton and Terri Miller and husband John of Greenville; Grandson Austin Miller and Granddaughter Ashton Miller both of Greenville; and Sister Patricia Rench of Dayton. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM on Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Pastor Joene Herr and Pastor Rollie Rench officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home. Opal Elizabeth Hall (May 30, 1909 - May 25, 2009)

Mrs. Opal Elizabeth (Reel) Lease-Hawes-Hall

Mrs. Opal Elizabeth Hall departed from this earth to be joined with her precious Savior on May 25, 2009. She was a resident of the Brethren Home Community of Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 30, 1909 in Versailles, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late William & Bessie (Vonderheid) Reel.

She was 1st married to Edward C. Lease of Greenville whom precedes her in death. They where the parents of 6 children 3 children deceased are Francis E. Lease who was a band leader for the Crystal Ballroom of Frenchtown, Ohio for many years, Robert E. (Dorothy) Lease, Carole J. Lease. She is also preceded in death by Brothers: Clem (Glenna) Reel & Lester (Ruth) Reel; Sister: Winifred (Houston) Craig; Son in law: Robert Broderick; Also her 2nd husband: Markwith Hawes, 3rd husband: Chalmer Hall.

She is survived by 3 children: Daughter: Betty J. Broderick, Son: Lewis E. Lease, Daughter: Marilyn J. (Gene) Fritz; Grandchildren: Nancy (Dennis) Livingston, Ronald (Chris Anne) Lease, Timothy Lease, Teresa (David) Jackson, Deborah (John) Shuff, Marceena (Randy) Hamilton, Roberta (Mike) Ditty, Robert (Kalauokaaea) Lease, Mona (Daniel) Lease-Stachler, Jana (Doug) Kolling, Lana (John) Johnston, John Lease, Regena (David) Brown, Troy (Kari) Fritz, Shannon (Jodi) Fritz; Numerous Great grandchildren & great great grandchildren.

Opal acquired many friends throughout the Greenville area and was a cook for the Cul Mor Tea Room along with other restaurants. She was a member of the AAA Automobile Club for over 50 years; she was also a member of the Daughters of America, Darke County Century Club. She was well noted for her patient cooking abilities, preparing food to its finest delicacy and was a brilliant conversationalist within the public. She was consistent with her Christian belief and was so well loved by entire family and will be missed by many.

She was the niece of the multi-talented worlds famous Russells.

Services will be held on Friday May 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Greenville Missionary Church 1110 North Broadway Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Martha L. Cole (February 4, 1925 - May 25, 2009)

Mrs. Martha L. (Pence) Cole, 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 1:35 AM at her residence. She was born on February 4, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio.

She worked as a farm secretary and was a member of Coletown Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by; husband, Ira Joe Cole whom she married on February 18, 1977 as well as 3 brothers.

She is survived by; Cousin, Lajean Williams of Greenville; aunt, Florieta Tegtmeyer of Greenville; brother, Web “Junior” Devor of Greenville; sister, Deloris Pepple of Rossburg, Ohio; brothers in law, Paul Williams Cole of Hollansburg, Ohio and Glenn Leon Cole of Arcanum, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with the Pastor Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior the service.

Mabel B. Bruner (April 1, 1915 - May 23, 2009)

Mrs. Mabel B. Bruner, 94, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 7:47 AM at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on April 1, 1915 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Samuel William & Sarah Estella (Lutz) Cook.

She was a homemaker and helped her husband farm. They lived east of Rossburg, Ohio for over 50 years. She was formerly a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren where she taught kindergarten class for about 15 years, a secretary for all Sunday school classes, secretary and treasurer for her Sunday school class and was past deacon at the church. She is now a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren. She moved to the Brethren Retirement Community on October 30, 1990 where she was a member of the Brethren Home Wonderetts Clowns, a secretary and treasurer of the ladies Aid of the Brethren Home and well as numerous volunteer work.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by; her husband, Harry M. Bruner; brothers, Clarence, Elmer, George, Arthur and Edward Cook; sisters, Edna Hawes, Freda Pepple and Hazel.

She is survived by; son and daughter in law, Eldon & Phylis Bruner of Huntington, IN; grandson, Timothy (Cami) Bruner; great grandchildren, Jarek Bruner and Skyler Bruner as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel, 750 Chestnut St., Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Newcomer Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Mark Hess Benedict (February 5, 1943 - May 22, 2009)

Mark Hess Benedict, 66, of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 12:49 PM at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on February 5, 1943 in Fayetteville, Pennsylvania to the late Harry Good & Evelyn Ruth (Hess) Benedict.
Mark was a farmer most of his life and for the last few years he worked construction with his sons. He was a minister in numerous churches since 1969 and was currently a member of the Oak Grove Old German Baptist Brethren Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Dale Hess Benedict.

Mrs. Betty J. Harris, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday May 22, 2009 at 9:45 AM at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. She was born August 28, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Frank & Anna (Whittaker) Leas. She worked for the production line at Fram for 25 years retiring in 1976. She was a member of EUM Church in Greenville.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Daughter in law: Vickie J. Harris; Brother: Robert Leas.

She is survived by her husband: Harold N. “Newt” Harris of Greenville whom she married December 14, 1940; Sons & daughter in law: Thomas L. & Kay Harris of Farmersville, Ohio, William F. Mrs. Willie Lyde Delaplane, 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on May 21, 2009 at 12:10 PM at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on December 15, 1924 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the late Melvin & Ruth (Sutton) Halcom as well as a step father Thomas Pounds.

Willie was a homemaker, a former member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenville and is currently a member at the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church in Ft. Jefferson, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Delaplane and Grandson, Zachary Beatty and Great Grandson, Linus Beatty.

She is survived by her sons & daughters in law; Joseph T. & Shirley Delaplane of Greenville and Donald E. & Diane Delaplane of Greenville, daughter and son in law; Patricia Ann & Joseph Beatty of Houston, Texas, grandchildren; Jeb (Joanna) Beatty, Matthew Delaplane, Elizabeth (David) Klaus, Sarah (Brad Allen) Delaplane, Doug Delaplane, and Danielle (Anup) Patel, great grandson; Ian Patel.

Tonya V. Forsythe - May 19, 2009

Tonya V. Forsythe, 35, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 19, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

She was born in West Jefferson, OH, daughter of William and Shirley (Boysel) Dildine of West Jefferson.

In addition to her parents, Tonya is survived by her husband, Kenneth Forsythe, whom she married July 27, 2007; her children, Britney Dildine, Roxanne Brower, Toni Brower, Kenny Forsythe, Dylan Forsythe all of Greenville, and Krista Forsythe of Union City; her brothers and sisters, Kathy Garmamy of Wilmington, IN, Tina Smith of West Jefferson, Carol Jenkins of Columbus, OH, William Dildine, Jr. of West Jefferson and Doug Jenkins of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 11:30 a.m at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Henry A. Meinerding (August 14, 1926 - May 19, 2009)

Henry A. Meinerding age 82 of Versailles & formerly of Palestine, died at 5:05 A.M. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Versailles Health Care Center. Henry was born August 14, 1926 in St. Joseph, Ohio, to the late Henry & Josephine (Kalkhoff) Meinerding.

Henry formerly worked for the Railroad, the Record Company, and Greenville Tile Mill. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

In addition to his parents, Henry is also preceded in death by his brothers, Carl “Fuzzy” Mentor, Carl, Bill, Ray, Andy and August Meinerding; and sisters, Mary Jones, Rosella Fellers and Lucille Fellers.

Henry is survived by numerous nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; great great nieces and great great nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. Ellen K. Campbell, 79, of Greenville and formerly of the Columbus and Springfield areas, passed away late Saturday evening at the Covington Care Center in Covington, OH.

She was born in Columbus, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jessie (Gaunt) Olds. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas L. Campbell in 2003; a son, Thomas Christopher Campbell; five brothers, Joseph, William Marshall, Robert, David and John Olds; and two sisters, Lois (John) Sullivan and Sister Mary Olds, SND.

A homemaker, Ellen had worked as a clerk in the engineering Department at General Motors prior to her marriage to Thomas. She was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph Academy in Columbus and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, OH.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen (David) Stammen of Rossburg, OH, Mary (Richard) Campbell-Zopf of Yellow Springs, OH and Peter (Wendy) Campbell of Shady Springs, WV; grandchildren, Sara (Alan) Timmerman, Nicholas Stammen, Magdalena Zopf, Isaiah Campbell, David Campbell and Amelia Campbell.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville with Rev. John White celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Kyle T. House, 24, of Worchester Dr., Riverside, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Saturday May 16, 2009 in Cincinnati. Kyle was born March 9, 1985 in Greenville. Kyle was a 2003 graduate of Arcanum Butler High School and a graduate of Sinclair Community College. He was employed as a security guard at LexisNexis. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pitsburg. Kyle deeply loved his family and friends. Helen L. Shank, 92, of Arcanum, died Friday May 15, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. Helen was born November 10, 1916 in Rome, Georgia to the late Grover and Dixie (McDaniel) Goodner. She was a 1968 graduate of Miami University, and well known Arcanum elementary school teacher, retiring after 37 years. Mrs. Shank was a substitute teacher after retirement for many years. Helen was a member of Pitsburg Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the University of Women Association, the Darke County Retired Teachers Association, NEA, and OEA. Preceded by her husband Howard Shank who died January 1, 1982, daughter Cathy L. Shank, son Rick C. Shank, 2 brothers Delay and John Goodner, and 2 sisters Frances Moorman and Inez Goubeaux. Gene Straszheim (May 20, 1932 - May 14, 2009)

He was born May 20,1932 near Lewisburg, Ohio to the late Herman Straszheim and Gladys (Riegel) Straszheim, of Eaton, OH. He graduated from Eaton High School in 1950, and attended The Ohio State University. He also served four years in the United States Air Force. He worked at NCR in Dayton, and later retired from Panasonic in Troy. He was a private pilot, and an avid race fan, He enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his father, Herman Straszheim in 1993.

Gene is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary(Bryan)Straszheim, of New Madison; one son, Mark and wife Katie of N.Muskegon, Michigan; one daughter, Kay and husband James Stephan of New Madison; five grandchildren, Jill, Abby, Jenna Straszheim and Megan and Ryan Stephan; one brother, Pastor Jerry Straszheim and wife Conni of St. Petersburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, May 18,2009 at Storch Braund Funeral Home, New Madison, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, May 19,2009 at the Funeral Home, with Pastor John Place and Pastor Jerry Straszheim being asked to officiate. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Memorial Contributions may be made to Tri-Village Rescue, New Madison, Oh. Raymond "Shorty" E. Wead (January 24, 1923 - May 13, 2009)

Raymond E. "Shorty" Wead, 86, of Arcanum, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Heartland of Greenville where he had resided since 2006. Mr. Wead was born in Pleasant Hill, Ohio on January 24, 1923, the son of the late Elmer and Emma (Bucholtz) Wead. He retired in 1982 from Delco Products, Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WW II. Shorty was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis (Campbell) Wead who died April 28, 2005, 2 brothers Junior and Earl "Jake", and a sister Ruth Pennington. He is survived by his daughter Darla Bourne of Arcanum; 2 sons Paul "Butch" Wysong and wife Charlotte of Savona and Ed Wead and wife Rhonda of West Alexandria; 12 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great Great Grandsons; 2 sisters Gladys Stichter of Centerville and Betty Brandon of Missouri and a brother Robert Wade of Arcanum. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Pastor Gary Cloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2 - 4 PM at the funeral home.

JoKay Miltenberger (July 22, 1937 - May 11, 2009)

JoKay C. Miltenberger, 71, of Arcanum, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday May 11, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Richmond, Indiana on July 22, 1937, the daughter of the late Jim and Jo (Beetley) Chittick. She grew up in Hollansburg and graduated from Westmont High School in 1955. She married Deo Miltenberger October 28, 1956 in the Beech Grove Church of the Brethren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. She worked in both the Treasures and Auditor office and was secretary of the Darke County Joint Vocational School District. She also worked as a secretary at the Butler School. For many years, she was a columnist and a reporter for both Greenville Daily Advocate and the Early Bird newspapers. She served 17 years on the Arcanum Library Board, serving as both Secretary and President. JoKay served several years on the Darke County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, serving as chairman of the Agricultural Committee. She was a member of the American Red Poll Association and a former member of the Criterion Club, Arcanum. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Barbara "Bobbie" Heck. She is survived by her husband Deo Miltenberger; 2 daughters Jayna Jo Johnson of Cincinnati and Rebecca Jo Gilbert and husband Dan of Mooresville, NC; a son J. Scott Miltenberger and wife Cindy of Castine; 4 Granddaughters Allison Jo Johnson of Cincinnati, Sarah Rebecca, Amanda Lynn, and Maria Michele Gilbert of Mooresville, NC; Niece and Nephew Dana and Don Heck of Hollansburg, a cousin Patsy Clark of Anderson, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery. Bertha Lester (September 7, 1920 - May 11, 2009)

Bertha (Johnson) Lester, 88 of New Paris, and formerly of New Madison passed away Monday, May 11, 2009 at 12:45 pm.

She was born September 7, 1920 the to the late Frank Marshall & Mary Elsie(Albertson) Johnson. She was a longtime member of the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, where she also taught adult Sunday school class. She was graduate of Spartanburg High school and attended Richmond Business College. Bertha was an avid Bible student and attended Bible Study Fellowship in Richmond. She was a Homemaker, teachers aid for Nettlecreek School Corp. in Hagerstown, Indiana. Bertha also was a Township Assessor for Jefferson Twp. In Wayne County. She was an avid reader, learner, and loved to quilt and garden and most of all spend time with her family.

Bertha is survived by two sons, David and wife Nancey Lester of Eau Claire, Michigan and John Lester of Hagerstown, Indiana; one daughter, Linda and husband Hank Richardson of New Paris, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Aaron and Beth Lester, Brian and Lindsay Lester, Amy and Matthew Barr, Rebecca and Nick North, Ruth and Matthew Seifert, Emily Richardson, Robert Lester, and Kelly Lester; eight great grandchildren; one sister Cynthia Mae Polley of Lynn, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lester whom she married on April 10, 1948; a sister, Helen Clements and a brother Joel Johnson.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in New Paris, Ohio with the Rev. Jim Chronister being asked to Officiate. Services will be held following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown, Indiana.

Elizabeth Harriet Clevenger - May 11, 2009

Elizabeth Harriet Clevenger, 91, passed away early Monday morning, May 11, 2009 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born in Council Grove, Kansas on April 21, 1918 to the late Charles and Anna Rotchford. She grew up in the Big John community and graduated from the Council Grove High School in 1937. She worked as a secretary in the Welfare Office of the courthouse for several years and during WW II worked for the U.S. Air Force in the Production Control and Intelligence Department. At the end of the war she became a transcript clerk in the registrar's office at Kansas State University, Emporia, Kansas and from there she went to Topeka, Kansas and worked for the Hussey Insurance Agency as bookkeeper and cashier. She married Harold Clevenger in Topeka, Kansas on August 8, 1948 and moved to Union City, Indiana. She worked for the Backstay Welt Co. in the office for 13 1/2 years.

They moved to the Bartonia Community where they farmed from 1956 to 1980. Upon retiring they moved to Wayne Lakes, Greenville, Ohio and spent summers there and winters at their home in Lakeland, Florida. Harold passed away in January of 1987. She moved back in 1992 and lived at Wayne Lakes (Greenville) until 1999 when she moved into the retirement village in Union City, IN.

She is a past member of the Topaz Club and National Secretaries Association of Emporia, Kansas; past member of the Women's Insurance Association of Topeka, Kansas. She is a past member of the Singles and Women's Auxiliary or Woodbrook Estates, Lakeland, Florida where she spent 12 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Union City, IN having served on the board of Deacons and Elders and president of the Foster Auxiliary. She is a charter member of the Morris Count Historical Society of Council Grove, Kansas. She has contributed many items to the Post Office Museum and attended its dedication in 1989. She is a member of Cheer Guild which makes items for children for Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She has been doing this since 1993. She has contributed quilts to Fairmont Friends Church in Fairmont, IN along with her friend Mary Evans. Also, they made quilts for the Ronald McDonald House and the Indian Missions in the south.

She loved flowers, birds, nature and doing hand work (especially greeting cards).

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert and her husband Harold in 1987. She is survived by a step daughter and two step grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.

There will be no visitation or services and burial will take place at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Council Grove, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Harold Clevenger Scholarship, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL 62901.

Carl R. Edwards (June 29, 1936 - May 3, 2009)

Carl R. Edwards, 72, of Arcanum, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton. Mr Edwards has been in failing health. He was born June 29, 1936 in Maple Grove, NY to the late Ralph and Thelma (Church) Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a member of the Potsdam Church of the Brethren. He held a Masters Degree from Wright State University. Carl was a Past President of the SCCAA Western Ohio Region, former member and President of the MG Car Club, member of the East Dayton Priority Board, member of the American Legion, and Life Connection, Dayton. He was a social worker specializing in children with special needs. Preceded in death by a daughter Debbie Sonderman, and 4 sisters Betty Hamond, Joan Whitesell, Shirley Lehr, and Marian Tracy. He is survived by his wife Adelaide (Van Dewerker) Edwards whom he married January 1, 1956; daughters Lou Ann Haburn and husband Marty of Arcanum, Peggy Edwards, Betty Sue Ogden and husband Mike; son Bradford Edwards and wife Connie all of Dayton; son-in-law Mike Sonderman of Centerville; 8 Grandchildren Olivia and Mike Ogden, Donavan and Josh Haburn, Brad and Brett Edwards, Ronny Edwards and wife Andrea, and Trevor Sonderman; 1 Great Grandchild, Landon Edwards; and brother Doug Brown of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Destiny M. Longenecker, 18, of Greenville, Ohio, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, from a train-pedestrian accident in Union City, OH.

She was the daughter of her father, David L. (friend, Sandy Thaxton) Abels of Mendon, OH, mother, Roxanne M. (friend, Scotty Yoder) Longenecker of Greenville, step-parents, Bill Fields (friend, Susie Carrington) of Greenville.

She was a senior at Greenville High School.

She is also survived by her grandparents, Mary Abels of Lima, OH, Tom Longenecker of Greenville, and Nancy Apple of Dayton; brothers & sister, Anthony Abels of Mendon, OH, Dave Abels of Ft. Recovery, Sarah Burwinkel of Columbus, OH), Scotty Yoder of Ansonia; step-brothers & sister, Jason & Mandy Swisher of Rossburg, OH, Chris & Mike Carrington, both of Greenville; special nephew, William Swisher; boyfriend, Cody Griffin of Union City, OH; and many other family, friends and loved ones.

Vincent L. Schmidt, 65, of Union City, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, April 30, 2009 at the Dayton Heart Hospital.

He was born in Celina, son of the late Vincent T. Sr. and Elvira (Ontrop) Schmidt.

Vincent was an employee at the Coldwater Community Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Carol (Link) Schmidt; his step children, Kim Evers, of Union City, Ohio and Mike (Alana) Reinhard of New Madison grandchildren, Chelsey Reinhard, Danielle Partin and Breanna Partin; brothers and sister, Clete (Irene) Schmidt of Rockford, Ohio, Roger (Theresa) Schmidt of Anna, Ohio, Dave (Alice) Schmidt of Coldwater, Ronald (Linda) Schmidt of Minster and Mary Ann (Jerry) Knapke of Celina.

Gladys M. (Feitshans) Hines, 90, of Greenville, died Friday morning, May 1, 2009 at Rest Haven, Greenville. Gladys was a former resident of the Arcanum area. Mrs. Hines was born in Twin Township, Darke County on July 3, 1918, the daughter of the late Noah and Orpha (Besecker) Welbaum. She was a Mother, Homemaker, and Farmers Wife. Gladys was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge in Greenville. Mrs. Hines was preceded in death by her 1st husband Harold Feitshans, who died 7/11/1977, and her 2nd husband Paul Hines, who died 12/25/1979, son Fred Feitshans, 4 brothers Virgil, Delmar, Harold, and Forrest Feitshans, 2 sisters Ethel Drew and Freda Gilbert.
