George T. Kaugher (December 19, 2010)

George T. Kaugher, 90, of New Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. George was born in Winchester, Indiana on February 9, 1920 to the late Joseph and Esta (Sexton) Kaugher.

George served his country honorably as a United States Marine in WWII from November 24, 1941 to April 25, 1956. He worked at Crosley (Avco) for many years and later retired from NATCO as a Quality Inspector. George served as a former Mayor of New Madison, coached baseball for the Lyons Club and the girls softball team in New Madison. Some of joys in his life were bowling, fishing, sitting in his rocking chair, watching TV, and playing Santa Claus. However, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby (Rotroff) Kaugher; three daughters, Roberta Kaugher and partner, Sheryl McClary of St. Pete, Florida, Sherry and Jim Allen of Valrico, Florida, and Clara Joe and Jim Farmer of New Madison; six grandchildren, Tammie Baker, Tom Farmer, Sean Allen, Becky Rivas, Kathy Brumbaugh and Amy Strasser; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Allen; and two sisters, Goldie Durham and Frances Garringer; and two brothers, Donald Kaugher and Walter Kaugher.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 4 – 7 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 10:30 AM also at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Cloyd being asked to officiate. Full military honors will be given immediately following the funeral at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. The family requests memorial contributions be given to The Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund with donations being accepted at the funeral home.
