Marilyn S. Ritz (May 20, 2010)

Marilyn Sue Ritz, 71, of Greenville, passed away at her home on May 20, 2010. She was born November 17, 1938 the daughter of Russell C. and Mary (Burkett) Ritz.

Marilyn had worked as a nurse’s aid and helped out at the Paws Bingo Hall. She was a member of the Greenville Moose Lodge and the Greenville Senior Citizens. Marilyn enjoyed bingo, playing cards, especially Euchre.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, MaryLou Ritz

Marilyn is survived by a sister, Marcy Jean Newman, of Brookville and a brother, John A, Ritz, of Tucson Arizona.

Friends may visit the family at the Storch-Braund Funeral Home, Saturday, June 5, 2010 from

10:00 – 11:00 AM with a memorial service to follow scheduled for 11:00 AM. Burial will be at the Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison immediately following the service with the Rev. Eric Fee being asked to officiate.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or to the Donor’s choice.

Harold Leon Oswalt (May 27, 2010)

Harold Leon Oswalt, 89, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Union City, OH, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville.

Born near Union City, Ohio on May 14, 1921, Harold graduated from Jackson Twp. School where he was a four year member of the varsity basketball team. After graduation he trained as a machinist at National Cash Register Company and worked for NCR until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a medical technician at the 346th general hospital in England and served there more than two years.

After military service he went into farming and was later a die setter at Westinghouse Electric in Union City for 26 years.

He met Mary Louise Owen at the Sweet Shop in Union City and they married on August 8, 1942; she survives. After retirement he spent four years as a volunteer at the Triple C School on Grand Cayman Island. He was a member of Union City, Ohio Evangelical United Methodist Church and the Greenville American Legion.

Also surviving are his daughters, Diane (Ronald) Caudill of Fort Wayne, and Cathy Kelly of Gas City; sons Von Oswalt of Greenville and Tim (Theresa) Oswalt and Paul (Melissa) Oswalt of Union City, OH; twelve grandchildren Greg Whitenack and Cindy (Brad) Burkhart of Fort Wayne, Jeri (Chris) English of Somerset, KY; Ty (Valerie) Oswalt, Kelly Oswalt, Jason (Josie) Dickey, Alyssa (Brent) Sloan; Edward (Tiffany), William, and Heather Oswalt, Shannon (David) Condon, Adam (Kimberly) Oswalt; twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents William H. and Hazel Bateman Oswalt and sister Mary Ellen Brewer.

Services will be held Wednesday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Union City. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia.

The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH Tuesday, June 1 from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Union City, OH.

Max O. Bixler (May 22, 2010)

Mr. Max O. Bixler, age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday May 22, 2010 at 4:45 AM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born December 26, 1916 in Adams Twp. Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Ed & Jessie (Miller) Bixler.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a carpenter for Dale Rismiller construction. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Carpenters Local # 104 Dayton, Ohio, Treaty Squares since 1971.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Son: Lee Bixler; Sisters & brothers in law: Ermal & Homer Hall, Mary & James Royer, an infant sister; Brother in law: Charles Barnes.

He is survived by his wife Florence (Beisner) Bixler of Greenville whom he married July 18, 1942; daughter & son in law: Linda & John Warren of Florida; Daughter in law: Margaret Bixler of Oxford, Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; Sister: Betty Barnes of Winchester, Indiana.

Services will be held on Thursday May 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church 7814 State Route 121 N., Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in St. Johns Church Cemetery. Family will receive friend from 5:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio and 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the Church. Hilda E. Larger (May 21, 2010)

Hilda E. Larger, age 89 of Russia, Ohio, passed away on Friday May 21, 2010, at 8:25 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center. Hilda was born July 24, 1920 in Russia, Ohio the daughter of the late Emmanuel & Elizabeth (Francis) Goubeaux. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Remy Catholic Church; she was formerly active with St. Ann’s Sodality of the church. Hilda for years has enjoyed making rosaries for the First Communion Classes. She continued making rosaries even after she lost her eye sight.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Elmer H. Larger who died August 24, 1994, whom she married November 30, 1940; Sister: Rose Ann Goubeaux; Brother: Donald Goubeaux.

She is survived by her five sons & daughters in law: Edward & Rachel Larger of Versailles, Anthony Larger of Montpelier, Elmer & Janice Larger Jr. of Fort Loramie, Joseph & Mary Larger of Russia, Ernest & Deborah Larger of Westerville; Daughters & sons in law: Rosemary & Michael Stegall of Greenville, Jean & Craig Freeman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Carol & Greg Barhorst of St. Patricks; 23 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; Brother: Francis Goubeaux of Russia; Sister: Mary Friesthler of Russia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Remy Catholic Church 108 West Main Street, Russia, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Frank Amberger & Rev. Fr. Eugene F. Marion M. Armstrong (May 21, 2010)

Marion M. Armstrong, 87 of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Union City, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 12:10 AM at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on March 16, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio.

Marion retired in 1986 from Dairy Maid and also worked at Jerry’s Auto Sales for 2 ½ years and Mississinawa Valley School System for 3 years. He was a member of the United States Army serving in World War II.

Marion is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Armstrong whom he married on February 2, 1946.

He is survived by his daughter, Dwanna McMiller of Greenville, Ohio; son and daughter in law, Steven & Mary Armstrong of Greenville, Ohio; grandchildren, Stephanie (Rod) Mikesell and Joshua Armstrong; great grandchildren, Ashley Mikesell and Jacob Mikesell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be service held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Monday, May 24, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

There will be a graveside military service conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be given to the VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio.

Joshephine R. Stephan (May 19, 2010)

Mrs. Josephine R. (Deloye) Stephan, age 88 of Bradford, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 19, 2010 at 12:32 PM at her residence. She was born August 21, 1921 on the family farm in Bradford, Ohio the daughter of the late Joe & Mary (Boyer) Deloye.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Church of the Brethren where she sang in the choir and cooked for church activities.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Walter Lewis Stephan.

She is survived by her sons & daughter in law: Robert J. Stephan of Greenville, James E. & Rose Stephan of Bradford, Gary L. Stephan of Bradford, Grandchildren: Eric J. Stephan, Brian R. Stephan, Amy L. Stephan, Shawn E. Stephan; Great Grandchildren: Joshua Morgan, Sierra Bailey, Ricky Bailey, Kyanna Stephan, Kierra Stephan.

Services will be held on Saturday May 22, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Pastor Pete Kontra officiating. Burial will follow in Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, Ohio. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Linda K. Wampler (May 17, 2010)

Linda K. “Cookie” (Ryan) Wampler, age 68 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:20 P.M. Monday May 17, 2010 in Naples, Florida. She was born April 11, 1942 in Greenville, Ohio and the daughter of the late Robert E. “Pat” & Marlene H. (Burns) Ryan.

Linda was the owner and operator of the Merle Norman Cosmetic Store in downtown Greenville.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary all of Greenville. Linda had also been involved in the C.A.S.A. Program of Darke County, a former employee of Family Health and formerly had worked as an E.M.T. for Greenville Area Rescue Squad.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin infant children Jason Ryan and Ann Elizabeth Wampler, her Step Father—Delbert A. Tomes and her Step Mother—Alice S. (Hagaman) Ryan.

She is survived by her husband Donald E. Wampler of Greenville. They were married April 22, 1967. Also by her daughters and son in law—Kathryn “Kate” & Jeff Sopczak of Galloway, Ohio and Amy Cates of Arcanum. Step children and spouses—Dana “Dee” & Jeff Schmidt of Greenville, Janie & Steve Hubbard of Cleveland, Ohio and Donald J. “Donnie” & Stephani Wampler of Greenville. Grandchildren—McKenna R. Cates, Griffin P. Cates and Marlaina K. Sopczak. Step Grandchildren—Stacy Strait, Tricia (Greg) Peck, Carrie (Jim) Hackney, Jody (Jon) Shy, Alexandria Hubbard, Ryan Wamper and Nathan Wampler. Also 11 Great Grandchildren.

As a Celebration of Linda’s life the family will receive friends on Saturday May 29, 2010 from 1 P.M. until 4 P.M. in the Fairlawn Steak House 925 Sweitzer St., Greenville, Ohio. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Greenville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations made be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary K. Bertram (May 20, 2010)

Mary K. Bertram, 81, of Minster and formerly of Greenville, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 20, 2010 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Minster.

She was born September 15, 1928 in Darke County, daughter of the late Raymond and Hazel (Moore) Brinley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Bertram, and three brothers, Raymond, Jr., Jimmie and W. Al Brinley.

Mary was retired from Whirlpool in Greenville, Ohio. She was a member of the Americian Legion Auxiliary, and The Women of the Moose all of Greenville and the Minster's Eagles Lodge.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonja (Edward, Jr.) Leugers of Minster; grandchildren, Edward Leugers, III and Lance B. Leugers; great-granddaughter, Destiny Leugers; brother, Lowell Brinley of Greenville; sisters, Margaret Lumpkin of Greenville, Jane Fletcher of Greenville and Esta Hathaway of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, May 24, at 11 a.m., at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, with the Rev. Sam Hoeflich officiating. Burial will follow in the Hollansburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 p.m. A Lodge of Sorrow by the American Legion Auxiliary will begin at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Cancer Association of Darke County ot the Alzheimer's Association.

Joan M. Barga (May 16, 2010)

Mrs. Joan M. Barga, 85 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 2:40 PM at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. She was born on February 19, 1925 in Russia, Ohio to the late Joseph & Opal (Monnier) Simon.

Joan was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Sodality.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Roger J. Barga whom she married on February 10, 1953; brothers, Clarence, Lloyd and Bernard Simon; sisters and brother in law, Claribel & Lawrence Eilerman and Pauline Simon.

She is survived by sons and daughters in law, Alan & Polly Barga of Minster, Ohio, Terry & Theresa Barga of Versailles, Ohio and Greg & Patty Barga of Versailles, Ohio; grandchildren, Rachel, Albert, Oliver, Hannah, Gabrielle, Luke, Alena, Tyler, Jessica and John Barga; sister and brother in law, Beatrice & Robert Barlage of Newport, Ohio; sisters in law, Ruth Simon of Piqua, Ohio, Otillie Simon of Russia, Ohio and Malvina Simon of Russia, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown, Ohio with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 4-8 PM as well as Thursday from 9-10 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

Betty L. Meyer (May 15, 2010)

Betty L. Meyer age 80 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 4:45 A.M. on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. Betty was born October 4, 1929 in North Star, Ohio, to the late Alvin & Mildred (Beisner) Brown.

Betty was secretary and treasure for Eugene Meyer Trucking in Versailles, since 1955. She formerly worked at the Versailles Board of Public Affairs and Wills Jewelry Store in Versailles. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell, the church choir and the Versailles Coterie Club. Betty was a people person, she was always thinking and giving to others, before herself. Betty especially enjoyed visiting people at Versailles Health Care Center, where she brightened their day.

In addition to her parents, Betty is also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Meyer on March 20, 2010, whom she married June 18, 1950; and a brother, Robert Brown.

Betty is survived by a son, Kelly E. Meyer and fiancée, Kimberley Willey of Versailles; brother & sister-in-law, James & Anne Brown of Ashland, Virginia; sisters & brothers-in-law, Janet & Fred Banks of Versailles and Nancy & Joe Taylor of Versailles; sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Appleton, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was a blessing to her family and she will be missed by many.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Willowdell, with Pastor Laura A. Shreffler officiating. In Lieu of flowers, it is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell or any Hospice Organization in Betty’s memory. Daniel A. Coyle (May 15, 2010)

Daniel A. “Jude” Coyle age 58 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 5:20 A.M. on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Daniel was born June 14, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Robert U. & Rozella (Palmer) Coyle.

Daniel formerly worked at Midmark Corporation in Versailles, as a welder and painter.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Millie (Stenger) Coyle of Greenville, whom he married February 9, 1985; son, William Coyle of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter, Traci Coyle of West Milton; grandchildren, Madison, Amanda, Heaven, Haley and Hannah; brothers, James L. Coyle of Dayton, Robert E. Coyle of Dayton, Timothy J. Coyle of Spokane, Washington and Thomas A. Coyle of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters, Veronica R. Caron of Sarasota, Florida, Madonna M. Elliott of Dayton, Regina A. Baldwin of Lander, Wyoming and Kathleen A. Weidner of Kettering; and numerous nieces and nephews.

L. Fern Miller (May 17, 2010)

L. Fern Miller, 84, of Greenville and formerly of Union City, IN, passed away early Monday morning, May 17, 2010 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born December 11, 1925 in Mercer County, daughter of the late William and Ethel (Brock) Miller . In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Miller, sisters, Olive B. Painter and Wavelene Miller.

Fern was retired from C.W. Rice & Sons in Union City, IN were she had worked for 54 years. She was a member of the EUM Church in Union City.

She is survived by brother, Lowell (Janis) Miller; sister-in-law, Dixie Miller; and numerous nieces,nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held a 11 a.m. Friday, May 21 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Roberta Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

A. Madge Deis (May 16, 2010)

A. Madge Deis, 84, of North Fort Myers, Florida and formerly of Darke County, passed away early Sunday morning, May 16, 2010 at the Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, FL.

She was born May 31, 1925 in Darke County, daughter of the late J. Harold and Leah G. (Amspaugh) Slyder. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Deis and brothers, Wayne K. Slyder and Gene Slyder.

Madge was a retired register nurse having worked at the Community Blood Center in Dayton. She was a member of the Community Chapel in N. Ft. Myers, Poinciana Garden Club, Garden Council of Ft. Myers, ESA and Chi Omega Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by her son, Robert C. (Barbara J.) Deis of Cudjoe Key, FL; granddaughter, Dori (Dan) Albert of Boston, MA; great grandsons, Maxell and Jackson Albert; sisters, Maxine Hezlep of Greenville and Marilyn Swallow of Versailles; brothers, Don (Shirley) Slyder and Mark (Donna) Slyder both of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery.

Marilyn M. Kenworthy (May 16, 2010)

Marilyn M. Kenworthy, 58, of Ansonia passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

She was born October 30, 1951 in Suffolk, VA, daughter of the late Murl and Virgie Simons. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Murl Simons, Jr.

Marilyn had worked at Lambert's in Ansonia and had done home health care for several years. She was most known for operating Kenworthy Auction Service in Greenville.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Gerald S. Kenworthy whom she married June 15, 1974; sons, David (Christina) Kenworthy of Piqua and George (friend Rhonda) Kenworthy of Greenville; grandchildren, Carrisa Hershey, Ben Mendenhall, Dustin Kenworthy, Katelyn Kenworthy, Cheyenne Reppond, Sarah Cote and Natasha Kenworthy; brothers and sisters, Roger (Debbie) Simons of Greenville, David Simons of Florida, Haywood Simons of North Carolina, Fred (Lena) Simons, Diane Gross, Mary Stivers, Rosetta Simons and Loretta Simons all of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no services. The family requests that memorial contributions be given in memory of Marilyn to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Omer Powell (May 15, 2010)

Omer Powell, 74, of Union City, OH, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 15, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

He was born December 10, 1935 in Manchester, Kentucky, son of the late Walter and Bessie (Hornsby) Powell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Grace Doyle, Lucian Powell, Raymond Powell, Jim Powell and Marie Powell.

Omer was retired from the former Sheller Globe in Union City and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Union City.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Pauline (Lewis) Powell whom he married October 29, 1960; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Sue (Brown) Powell of Nappanee, IN, Clarke and Lori (Norris) Powell of Portland, IN, Tony and Angie (Jenkins) Powell of Leesburg, IN and Willie and Tina (Burns) Powell of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Rufus Powell of Lakewood, CO., Don Powell of Manchester, KY; and a sister, Mary Langdon of Hamilton, OH.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH, with Pastor Paul Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Snell Cemetery near Union City, OH.

Marion J. Neargarder (May 15, 2010)

Marion J. Neargarder age 79 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 9:28 A.M. on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his residence. Marion was born November 9, 1930 in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Chelcie & Alfreda (Goubeaux) Neargarder.

Marion retired from Chrysler Corporation with 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

In addition to his parents, Marion is also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Neargarder; and a sister, Rita Schmitt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Jan P. Johnson (May 14, 2010)

Mr. Jan P. Johnson, age 75 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:10 P.M. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at his residence. Jan was born December 22, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the son of the late Jay & Edna (Doerge) Johnson.

Jan retired in 2000 as a Physical Therapist following 44 years of Therapy work with over 40 years spent in Darke County with his office initially located in his residence and later maintaining an office at the Brethren Retirement Community.

Jan was a long time member of the Greenville County Club enjoying many games of golf and Bridge. He also had a love for music, being an accomplished Trumpet player; he spent some time playing in the Greenville Municipal Band. He was an avid reader, a former member of the Greenville Jaycees Club, and years ago he was one of the founders of the Greenville Youth Tennis Program. Jan was a graduate of Miami University and the D.T. Watson School of Physical Therapy of the University of Pittsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Deborah in 2007.

Jan is survived by his wife Nancy A. (Trittschuh) Johnson of Greenville. They were married May 26, 1956. Also by a son and daughter in law—Jon P. & Cheryl Johnson of Lebanon, Ohio. Daughter and son in law—Jill & Jeff Wright of Greenville. Grandchildren—Elizabeth, Lindsay, Margaret, Joel, Jansen and Jay. Great Grandchildren—Memphis, Elijah and Tessa. Sisters and brothers in law—Judy & Frank Sassar of Mesa, Az., and Joyce and Larry Noble of Port Charlotte, Fla., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will held at 3:30 P.M. on Sunday, May 23, 2010 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bob Bitner officiating. Private burial will be held in the St. Valbert Cemetery Versailles, Ohio at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until time of services in the funeral home.

Helen Jeannine Fisher went home to heaven to meet her Savior and join her husband for eternity on May 13, 2010. Jeannine was born to Paul Anders & Helen (Brown) Anders-Reeves on January 28, 1936 in Union City, Indiana.

Jeannine married Ted Fisher on September 22, 1957 and began their married life together farming. Jeannine was a homemaker all her life. Jeannine was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her family was the love of her life. Jeannine leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Brian (Lisa) Fisher of Union City, Indiana; daughters, Jody (Steve) Oberer of Greenville and Leanne (Scott) Goble of Granger, Indiana; her mother, Helen Reeves of Greenville; sister, Betty Ross of Greenville; step sister, Janet (Bob) Byrum of Arizona; brothers-in-law, Leonard (Janice) Fisher of Union City, Indiana and Wayne (Trish) Fisher of Ft. Recovery; granddaughter, Kristen (Mat) McConnell of Albany, Indiana; grandson, David Fisher; step granddaughters, Amy Schwendeman and Ashlee Smith; and step great grandchildren, Chance McConnell, Abby and Jacob Smith.

John R. Hathaway (May 11, 2010)

Mr. John R. Hathaway, age 80 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:40 A.M. Tuesday May 11, 2010 in the Heartland Nursing Home of Greenville. John was born August 7, 1929 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Lloyd L. & Marguerite (LeValley) Hathaway.

John was retired from farming in the Neave Township area and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. A few years ago he received the 50th Anniversary Korean War Service Medal. John was a member of the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church, the New Madison American Legion, Darke County Farm Bureau, former board member of Landmark, former board member of Miami Valley Milk Producers, Darke County Dairy Service Unit, the Ft. Greenville Camping Club, and following his retirement he enjoyed many events with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Son Keith Hathaway in 1974, also a grandson Robbie Hathaway in 1984, great granddaughter Sarah Heeter in 2002 and a brother Lloyd Hathaway as an infant.

John is survived by his wife Iris M. (Geeting) Hathaway of Greenville. They were married October 5, 1950. Also by sons and daughters in law: John R. & Deborah L. Hathaway Jr. and Donald L & Connie Hathaway all of Greenville. Daughters and son in law: Carol A. Hathaway of Greenville and Diane L. & Kirk Zimmer of Arcanum. Grandchildren and spouses: Brian K. (Audrey) Hathaway, Jaime L. Heeter, Doug (Karla) Zimmer, Philip (Haven) Zimmer, Charles Zimmer and fiancé Krista Hartman, Erica Zimmer, Pam Baker, Alicia (Jeremy) McKinney, John Bradley Hathaway and fiancé Jenny Holmes. Margaret Susan (Ullery) Arnett-Brown, 94, passed away Saturday May 8, 2010.

She was born in Greenville, Ohio, Darke County on September 10, 1915. She was an employee of the Greenville City Schools, retiring in 1976. She was also a member of the YMCA, life member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyton and Opal (Miller) Ullery, husbands, Harold D. Arnett in 1965 and Raymond C. Brown in 1989; and two brothers, Joyce E. and Harold C. Ullery.

She is survived by a son, Harold Doyle Arnett and his wife Karen; four step grandsons, Andrew, Daniel, Matthew (Chuck) and Michael; one step great grandson, Atticus; sister-in-laws, Helen Staugler and Bernice Ullery; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by stepchildren, William (Sue) Brown and Connie (Jack) Fellers; and step grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Friday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at the Greenville Cemetery (new part) with Mrs. Sylvia McKibben officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

George R. Lumpkin age 63 of Arcanum died Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 at his residence. George was born in Greenville, Ohio August 13th, 1946, son of the late Al and Betty (Hangen) Lumpkin. George is survived by his wife Donna (Kincaid) Lumpkin who he married on May 5th, 1974; son Travis; grandson Dylan and granddaughter Lauren all of Arcanum; brother Lowell Lumpkin of Kettering, Ohio; sister Coleen Lumpkin of Greenville, sister Sherry Lumpkin of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Cameron (Lumpkin) Smith. George retired in 2008 from Honeywell (Fram) after 35 1/2 years where he was a millwright and also served several years as the Fram Independent Union President. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. Hobbies included farming, golf, fishing, hunting and the enjoyment of his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Arcanum Junior Baseball P.O. Box 125 Arcanum, Ohio 45304. George requested a private memorial service be held at the convenience of his family at a later date.

Jake C. Lawson, 87, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Mr. Lawson was born in Lee County, Virginia on November 6, 1922, the son of the late John and Marie (Hinkle) Lawson. He worked as a Mill Operator at Dayton Tire and Rubber Company retiring August 1, 1978. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. Jake was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Gosnell) Lawson, Brothers and Sisters. He is survived by his daughter Gloria Meyer and husband Rex of Arcanum; Grandson Monte Meyer of Arcanum; Great Grandson Eli Meyer; many Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Alice F. Dickey, 95, of Arcanum, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Brookdale Place of Englewood. Mrs. Dickey was born in Darke County on December 10, 1914, the daughter of the late James R. and Alma R. (Eller) Barklow. She was a member of Gordon United Methodist Church. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Leonard M. Dickey, who died August 25, 1979, son Kent Dickey who died January 14, 1993, sister Jeannie Heckathorn and Brother John Barklow. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Myra Coleman and husband William of Arcanum; 2 grand daughters Deena Kent-Hummel of Dayton and Darla Parker and husband Edward of Danville, KY; 2 great grandsons Evan and Darren Parker; sister Barbara Carmony of Brookville; and a sister-in-law Margaret Barklow. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Bethel Cemetery, Phillipsburg with Pastor John Gilmore officiating. Pauline Corle (May 8, 2010)

Mrs. Pauline Corle, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:39 PM at the Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton, Ohio. She was born on October 28, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Omer & Hazel (Westfall) Skidmore.

Pauline retired as a Medical Secretary from Dr. William S. Elliott’s office in 1981. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Grandmothers club.

In addition her parents she is preceded in death her husband, Glenn E. Corle whom she married on June 7, 1942; daughter, Sally J. Sink; son in law, Robert Hyatt; sisters, Fleeta Price, Luella Keltner and Ogoa Patterson; and infant brother, Bobby Skidmore.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Hyatt of Massillon, Ohio; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jamie) Willis, Michelle (Craig) Reynolds, and Christen (Kevin) Rowles; great grandchildren, Tyler Willis, Austin Willis, Cody Reynolds, Callie Reynolds, and Robyn Rowles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Mrs. Naomi F. (Fasick) Wyan, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12:50 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on February 3, 1920 in West Milton, Ohio to the late Lawrence & Clara (Oda) Fasick.

Naomi retired from Honeywell in 1985 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren and loved music, sewing, gardening and card groups.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, G. Harold Wyan; brothers, Lloyd, Byron, Willard and Gerald Fasick; and a sister, Treva Eberwein.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ted & Connie Wyan of Crittenden, Kentucky; daughter and son in law, Priscilla & Randy Ellis of Tipp City, Ohio; grandchildren, Tammy Ellis, John (Michel) Wyan and Sarah Wyan; great grandchildren, Zachary Wyan and Kaia Wyan; sister and brother in law, Gloria & Eldon Oswalt of Springfield, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. James Elder “Jim” Magoteaux, 70 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on May 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born on October 24, 1939 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Elder C. & E. Irene (Anthony) Magoteaux.

Jim worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for Braniff Airways. He was a member of the United States Air Force and Bible Fellowship Church in Greenville, Ohio. He loved working and camping.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Reck.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Frazier) Magoteaux of Greenville, Ohio whom he married on February 14, 1977; daughters, Cynthia Izzo of Kissimmee, Florida and Cyndy Bowers of Greenville; grandchildren, Robert Izzo, Jennifer Ferguson, C.J. Mr. William Jeffrey Hawley, 58 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 8:18 AM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on August 4, 1951 in Greenville, Ohio to Joan Hawley of Greenville, Ohio and the late Daniel Hawley.

Jeff worked as a Quality Control Engineer. Was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville Bike Club and the Liars Club. He loved biking, running, fishing, camping and sports.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie (Pequignot) Hawley.

Roger formerly worked at Stephens Lumber in Arcanum.

Mr. Richard Labig, age 88 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 4:45 PM. He was born January 3, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Elsworth & Mabel (Jobes) Labig.

He was a core maker for Hobart in Troy for 34 years retiring in 1984. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

He was a member of EUM Church, a graduate of Greenville High School in 1939, a life member of the VFW, an active member of Greenville Area Senior Citizens, & a member of the Quarter Century Club at Hobart Corp.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Son: James R. Labig; Brother: Marvin Labig; Sisters: Phyllis Jean Labig, Marcella Unger.

Richard L. Cox (May 3, 2010)

Richard L. Cox, 80 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 11:29 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on August 24, 1929 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Luther & Virginia (Holmes) Cox.

Richard was a farmer and collected John Deere Memorabilia. He was a member of the Coletown Congregational Christian Church and loved taking care of his apple trees.

He is survived by his wife, Janice (Marker) Cox of Greenville; children, Denny Cox of Columbus, Cheryl Cox of Greenville, Scott Cox of Greenville, Mark Cox of Greenville, Michael (Tatiayana) Cox of Greenville, and Alisa Cox of Dayton; grandchildren, Jeremy, Hannah, Daniel, Samuel and Megann Cox; brother and sister in law, Dale & Phyllis Cox of Greenville; sister, Barbara Tester of Greenville; mother in law, Irene Marker of Greenville; extended family, Shannon, Karla, Savanna, Sierra and Sienna of New York; special friend and neighbor, Steve Wilson of Greenville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville with Pastor Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

Alfred F. Boney age 62 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 2:52 P.M. on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Ft. Jefferson, with Pastor James Altar officiating. Betty J. Gorrell (May 6, 2010)

Betty Jean (Best) Gorrell, 87, of Union City, IN, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Betty was born February 6, 1923, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Best.

Betty was a home maker, she had worked at Hardees, for the Campbell Soup Company, and State Line Clothing Care. During the Korean War, Betty worked in a military factory. Betty loved to read, to watch T.V., to do puzzle books, and enjoyed watching big time wrestling.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Gorrell in 1970 and a daughter Dianna Fisher, brother, Bob Best, and sister, Phyllis Brooks.

She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Bob and Sue Gorell of Greenville and Michael Steven Gorrell of Union City, In; three Grandchildren, Rob Gorell, of Greenville, Michael Fisher of Florida, and Emily Fisher of Ft. Wayne In three Great Grandchildren, Mackenzie Gorrell of Greenville, Logan Gorrell, of Gettysburg, and Dakota Long of Gettysburg and a sister, Maxine Beam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Fraze-Brooks Funeral Home in Union City, In with the Rev. Hershel Fee being asked to officiate. Friends may call on the family from 12 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery.

Family request memorial contributions be made to the Darke County Cancer Association.

Benjamin C. Blanton (May 3, 2010)

Benjamin Cain Blanton, passed away on May 3, 2010. Benjamin was born in Dayton, Ohio on January 20, 1984. The son of Roberta Moore and Steve Blanton, brother to Ryan and Leah and a loving father to Hayden Cain. A special uncle to nieces, Harley and Victoria. Benjamin is also survived by his girlfriend, Brittany Vicory along with a host of loving family and friends. Benjamin was employed at Concrete Sealants. Although Benjamin’s life was short, he had an impact on everyone that met him, if he said he was your friend, you had his word. He lived life to the fullest every single day. Benjamin’s passion in life was playing with his son and cheering on his Cincinnati Bengals. He has left a huge void in the lives of everyone who knew him.

A celebration of Benjamin’s life will be held 12:00 noon Friday, May 7, 2010 at Trostle, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home in New Carlisle, with the a visitation starting at 10:00 until the time of services.

Marvin J. Yount (May 5, 2010)

Marvin J. Yount,73, of Greenville passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton,Ohio.

He was born in Greenville, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Rue) Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Eugene and Wayne Yount; a sister Tolitha.

Marvin was retired from Wilson's Livestock Exchange of Greenville.

He is survived by a brother, Walter Yount, Jr. of New Paris; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 at 1 p.m., at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating . Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery near Brock, Ohio.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The family requests the memorials contributions to the family to defray the funeral expenses.

David C. Minsterman (May 5, 2010)

David C. Minsterman, 75, of Greenville, passed on to the next life after losing his battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis disease on May 5, 2010 in Ft. Myers FL.

He was born on January 1, 1935, son of the late Rev. Lewis C Minsterman and Elsie (Panhorst) Minsterman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Harold Minsterman; and a sister Harriet Haag.

Dave lived a full and vibrant life with a career that included several years employment with Dairy Maid Dairy and then with Nabisco Brands as a sales Representive.

After retirement he enjoyed working with Stillwater Valley Golf Course in Ohio and Sanctuary Golf Course in Sanibel, FL.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hufford) Minsterman; daughters Diane (Bob) Cronin and Darla (Mick) Nealeigh; 5 grandchildren, Brain and Kelsey Cronin, Sara , Katelin and Lisa Nealeigh; a brother, L. Richard Minsterman of Yellow Springs; a brother-in-law, Norman Haag; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Leas; several nieces, nephews and their families. He will be remembered by special friends Tom and Nancy and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at the Greenville Missionary Church, 1110 North Broadway (St. Rt. 118), Greenville at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday May 22, 2010 with Pastor Norman Haag and Pastor Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Marie Howard, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born July 5, 1923 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of the late Lowell & Anna (Lyons) Hoff.

She worked at Neff Lettering for 11 years and at Meijers in Troy for 7 years, she also had been a cook and waitress for about 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church and attended Verona High School.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Step Father: Dale Locke; 1st Husband: Charles Harris; 2nd Husband: Darrell Howard; Infant daughter: Doris Ann Harris; Daughter: Betty Sparks; Grandson: Steven Harris; Sister: Ruth Allen.

She is survived by her Son & daughter in law: Charles E. & Reva Harris of Lexington, Kentucky; Daughter: Anita Harris of Greenville; 11 Grandchildren; 20 Great grandchildren; 7 Great great grandchildren; Sisters: Glenna Creech of Eaton, Ohio, Nancy Hofacker of Greenville.

Services will be held on Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Don Avore officiating. Burial will follow in Verona Cemetery, Verona, Ohio. Robert Miller “Bob” Parent, age 89 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday April 30, 2010 at 9:30 PM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born August 26, 1920 in Palestine, Ohio the son of the late Willard & Vivian Ogreta (Miller) Parent.

He worked in the plumbing, roofing & heating industries. He served in the United States Army in World War II. His grandfather Ben T. was very influential in his life. He was an avid sports player playing baseball, basketball, bowling, and golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Wife: Alice Parent; Stillborn Daughter; & grandparents: Ben T. & Mary E. Miller.

He is survived by his daughter & son in law: Pamela & Ken Emrick of Greenville; Special Friend: Mary Brinley of Greenville; Grandchildren & spouses: Emily & Ira Shertzer of Silver Springs, Maryland, Gina & Darrell Fryman of Greenville, Travis Emrick at home; Sisters: Lora Lee Peters of New Carlisle, Ohio, Mary Virginia Amburgey of Dayton; and a few nieces & nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday May 8, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Greenville Cemetery New Section with Rev. Joe Soley officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Veterans Graveside services will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Christian Church or State of the Heart Hospice.

Marion D. Coovert (April 29, 2010)

Mr. Marion D. “Chuck” Coovert, 86, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 9:41 PM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on July 22, 1923 in Eldorado, Ohio to the late Harley & Olive (Duckwall) Coovert.

Chuck was a member of the United States Army and Craft Club. He was a 55 year member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge 143, his other Masonic affiliations include the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton; Antioch Shrine of Dayton; Darke County Shrine Club of which he was a member of the Shrine Jeepsters. Chuck has been a summer resident of Cedarville, Michigan for 48 years.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son in law, Brian Malcho; sister, Ruthann Coovert; and father and mother in law, Sherman & Gertrude Baird.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Baird) Coovert of Greenville, Ohio whom he married of the Bride and Groom TV Show in New York City, New York of July 16, 1952; daughter, Connie Malcho of Cedarville, Michigan; granddaughter, Emily Malcho of Cedarville, Michigan; and sister in law, Thelma Shives of Greenville, Ohio.

There will be a service held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 12-2 PM prior to the service on Thursday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by the Greenville Masonic Lodge at 2:00 PM on Thursday.

Memorial contributions can be given to the Dementia Foundation or Darke County Cancer Association.

Terry A. Baker, Jr. (May 2, 2010)

Terry A. "Bub" Baker, Jr., 29, of Arcanum, passed away early Sunday morning, May 2, 2010 at the emergency room of Wayne Hospital in Greenville.

He was born in Greenville, son of Terry A. (friend, LeAnna Denlinger) Baker of Union City and Candice L. (friend, Jerry Skidmore) Ullery of Greenville.

Bub had worked in construction for numerous contractors.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a special friend and her daughter, Kristin and McKinsey Willis; sisters, Stephanie (John) Baumgardner, Amber (Shane) Hall and Sara Baker; brother, Josh Baker; grandparents, Connie Santee, Dwight and LaDonna Brewer, Lula Skidmore and great grandmother, Verla Baker; nephews, Alexander, Lucas, Cooper; nieces, Avery and Aubrey; and his best friends, Ryan Brewer, Derrick and Kyle Skidmore.

He was preceded in death by his step father, J. Duane Ullery and grandfather, John Santee.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Darke County Recovery Services.

Wavelene G. Birt (May 1, 2010)

Wavelene G. Birt, 91, formerly of Ansonia and Rossburg, passed away Saturday morning, May 1, 2010 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born in Darke County, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Hiestand) Anderson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Don Birt in 1980; a daughter, Carolyn Burk; brothers Albert, Chester, Clarence, Forest, Raymond and Charles Anderson; and a sister, Mildred Rose.

Wavelene was a homemaker, and loved to play cards. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church, Ansonia American Legion Auxillary and Ansonia Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her children, Wanda Young of Ft. Walton Beach FL., Richard (Diane) Birt of Ansonia, James Birt of Ansonia, and Terry (Neva) Birt of Greenville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister Mary Arnett of Lima, OH.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 2 p.m., at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Joene Herr officiating. Burial will follow in the Shook Chapel Cemetery near Rossburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.. The family request the memorials contributions to be given to Ansonia American Legion Auxillary.
