James retired from the State of Ohio Division of Parks Lake Loramie. He served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Baker) Smith; and sister, Ruthie Hemlinger.
James is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Chris & Ed Lennon of Versailles and Mic & Jack Tilton of Troy; son, Bob Smith & Lisa Heaton of Covington; grandchildren, Stephanie Money, Bobby Smith, Mickey Smith, Corissa Lennon, James Lennon, Damon Francis, Shanna Hoelscher and Joshua Francis; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Mary McKibben of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Phil Chilcote officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery in Fletcher. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Veteran’s Elite Tribute Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilson Hospice.
