Helen L. “Petie” Hodgin (September 6, 2011)

Helen L. “Petie” Hodgin, 85, of New Madison passed away at her residence on September 6, 2011. Helen was born on July 29, 1926 in New Madison, Ohio to the late John B. and Marie (Eley) Falknor.

Helen was a very active member of the New Madison community. She was a 1944 graduate of New Madison Schools and a beautician for over 67 years as owner of Helen’s Beauty Shoppe in New Madison. Helen was a founding member of the New Madison Fire Department Firebelles. She also worked for Braund Funeral Home for over 40 years doing hair. Helen was active in the local school fair, Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee, a past member of the Community Band, her class reunion committee and the new school committee. She was also a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church where she sang and directed the choir. Lastly, Helen will be remembered for her delicious pecan pies.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, William Hodgin; son-in-law, Terry D. Farmer and sister-in-law, Ruth Falknor.

Helen is survived by a son, William and Rebecca Hodgin of Lewisburg; a daughter, Marene Farmer of New Madison; two grandchildren, Chantelle and Aaron Sebring of New Madison and Corvin Farmer of Orlando, Florida; two brothers, John Falknor, Jr. of New Madison and James Falknor of New Madison; and a sister, Ruthanna Butts of New Madison; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the New Madison United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Eric Fee officiating. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Greenmound Cemetery. The family requests that donations be given to the New Madison Volunteer Fire Department in her honor.
