Roger Benjamin Saylor (January 27, 2011)

Roger B. Saylor, age 43 of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Thursday January 27, 2011 at his residence. He was born May 29, 1967 in Dayton, Ohio the son of Patricia (Manning) Burton of Bradford, Ohio & Clennie Saylor of Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by his parents; Brothers: John “Moses” Burton, & Clennie “Pete” Manning. Services will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, Ohio. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

Nancy W. Wooten (January 27, 2011)

Nancy W. “Nonnie” Wooten, age 56 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Thursday January 27, 2011 at 9:40 PM at Vitas Hospice, Dayton, Ohio. She was born July 30, 1954 the daughter of Betty J. (Case) Rogers of Greenville and the late Stanley Edward Rogers Jr. She was a caregiver. She is preceded in death by her father; Husband: William Arlon Boyd Sr.; Granddaughter: Abigail Renee Minnich. She is survived by her children & spouses: Candy & Matt Gantt of Greenville, Brandy & Kent Minnich of Greenville, William & Stephanie Boyd of Greenville, Buddy & Anne Boyd of Texas; Grandchildren: Billy Boyd, Ashley Boyd, Curtis Minnich, Cody Boyd, David Minnich, Taz Gantt, Devon Gantt; Step Grandchildren: Colin, Tiffany, & Debbie; Great Granddaughter: Emma Boyd; Step Great Grandchildren: Mariah, Hailey, Kirah; Brother & sister in law: Sonny & Leslie Rogers of Arizona; Sisters: Jackie Flancher of Texas, Lonna Kolasenski of Arizona, Linda Bryan of Arcanum. Allan W. Stukenborg (January 24, 2011)

Allan W. “Bill” Stukenborg, age 67 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:55 PM Monday January 24, 2011 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home of Greenville. Bill was born May 24, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio and the son of the late Albert & Dorothy (Owens) Stukenborg. Bill was a veteran of the Vietman War serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 2003 from Fram-Honeywell Corp of Greenville and had been a member of the Premier Bowling League also of Greenville. He was an avid fisherman and a lifetime Cincinnati Red’s fan. Also enjoyed computers, a former member of the Trail Rider’s Club of Lewisburg and an avid fan of aviation. Bill is survived by his brother and sister in law James and Linda Stukenborg of Brookville, Ohio and his nephew Ian Stukenborg also of Brookville. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday January 28, 2011 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Pastor Alan Knoke officiating and Full Military Honors being conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Friday at the Dayton National Cemetery Dayton, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of the services in the funeral home. It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.

Phyllis Irene Etzler (January 28, 2011)

Phyllis I. (Dershem) Etzler, 81, of New Madison, passed away on January 28, 2011 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Phyllis was born in Preble County on February 12, 1929 to the late Aaron & Bertha (Bridgett) Dershem. Phyllis is a graduate of New Madison High School. She later worked and retired from FRAM after 25 years of service. Phyllis enjoyed knitting, fishing, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She was also a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren. Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by a son, Jack Etzler; sisters, Margaret Boyer, Carolyn Stewart, Maxine Curtis and an infant sister. Phyllis leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Gerald Etzler; two sons, Jerald Etzler and Joe Etzler; a daughter, Jill Etzler; two grandchildren, Amanda Etzler-Farber and IO Etzler; two brothers, Lew Dershem and Glenn “Bill” Dershem; two sisters, Janet Waltz and Ruth Puterbaugh. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 4 – 6 PM at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, 373 Love Road, New Paris. A Celebration of Life service will be on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Tony Price officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Cedar Grove Church, Brethren Retirement Community’s Residence Aid Fund or State of the Heart Hospice. Helen M. Niswonger (January 27, 2011)

Helen M. Niswonger, 84, of Greenville, passed away late Thursday morning, January 27, 2011 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.  She was born March 3, 1926 in West Manchester, daughter of the late John Patrick and Carrie (Arthur) Haller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Derrick Mowery.  A homemaker, Helen was an avid refunder and had sold Avon. She enjoyed Elvis, all kinds of music, roller skating and traveling around the country with her husband and love of her life on a Harley motorcycle.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Niswonger; her daughters, Shirley (Tom) Mowery, and Bonnie (Lloyd) Stinson both of Greenville; grandchildren, Tonia Mowery, Brian Henson and Eric Henson; great grandchildren, Eli Hathaway, Lane Mowery and Cortlin Gentry; and two sisters, Dixie Shaffer of Eldorado, and Mary Ellen Strahan of Clayton.  Private services will be held at a later date at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.  There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.

Penelope K. Teegarden (January 27, 2011)

Penelope K. Teegarden, 55, of Rossburg, passed away early Thursday morning, January 27, 2011 from injuries do to an auto accident on ST. Rt. 49 in Montgomery County.

She was born April 12,1955 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of the late Harry Stine and mother Josephine (Patterson) Stine of Piqua.

Penelope was RN nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and a member of the Teegarden Congregational Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband Robert E. Teegarden; a daughter, Andi (Chris) Gerhart of Vandalia, OH; step children, Kristie Teegarden and Cody Teegarden at home; a granddaughter, Gracie Gerhart; a brother, Randy Stine of Piqua, OH; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gail and Betty Teegarden.

Memorial Services will be at Teegarden Congregational Christian Church near Ansonia, OH. on Friday, February 4, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Eric Knight officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 12- 2 p. m.

Doris A. Longenecker (January 29, 2011)

Doris A. Longenecker, 75, of Arcanum, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Mrs. Longenecker was born in New Madison on March 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lissie (Charles) Bowers. She was a member of EUM Church Greenville. Doris worked as the Cafeteria Manager at the Brethren Home retiring in 1997. She is preceded in death by her husband Jackie L. Longenecker, Brothers Bob, Harold, and Pete Bowers, Sisters Edith Bowers and Judy Klopfer. Survived by Daughter Rhonda (David) Smith; Sons Rev Raymond (Fredia) Longenecker and Rodney (Gwen) Longenecker; 8 Grandchildren Carla Smith, David Smith, Derek Longenecker, Heather Smith, Ashley Smith, and Steven Smith; 5 Great Grandchildren Avery Smith, Micah Smith, Chloe Smith, Ambyr Hoshauer, and Charlie Hoshauer; Brothers Marvin (Doris) Bowers, Donald (Mary) Bowers, and Joe Bowers; Sisters Jeanne (Gene) Knox and Ruth (Vonn) Spitzer. Phyllis M. Krickenbarger (January 24, 2011)

Phyllis M. Krickenbarger, 80, of Eaton, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at Reid Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Krickenbarger was born Nov. 2, 1930 in Darke County to the late Chalmer and Hazel (Riegle) Hawkey. Phyllis was a devoted homemaker and mother. She was a member of St. Paul Crosswords United Methodist Church, Eaton. Phyllis is survived by her husband Byron Krickenbarger whom she married March 24, 1951. Daughters; Pamela (Steven) Schweikert, of Owosso Mi; Cheryl Scholes of Eaton; Brenda(Austin) "Buzz" Kennell of Waynesboro Va. Melissa (Jeff) Lipps of Eaton; Sons; Tim (Jamie) Krickenbarger of Arcanum; Douglas (Lisa) Krickenbarger of West Alexandria, Jeff (Donna) Krickenbarger of West Alexandria. 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brothers Wayne (Connie) Hawkey of LaGrange GA; Keith (Wilma) Hawkey of Farmersville and a sister Shirley Holsapple of Eaton. Phyllis was preceded in death by brothers Garth and Max Hawkey and sisters Patty Cox and Barbara Davies. Oma C. Baker (January 21, 2011)

Oma C. Baker, 92, of Arcanum, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Englewood Manor, Englewood. Mrs. Baker was born in Fremont, Virginia on September 16, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Dunahoo) Philyaw. She was a member of Gordon United Methodist Church, Gordon and was owner/operator of the former Midway Market. She is preceded in death by her first husband Thomas Archer who died September 23, 1969 and her second husband Elmer Baker who died September 12, 1986, infant Daughter Joetta Archer, five Brothers Roy, Lonnie, Cecil, Felix, and Cuba Philyaw, and a sister Stella Green. Oma is survived by four Daughters Deloris Anne Meadows of Canal Winchester, Thelma Campbell and husband Bill of Knoxville, TN, Cathy Oswalt and husband Don of Arcanum, and Ruby Hutchens of Arcanum; Son Roger L. Archer and wife Sharon of Arcanum; 16 Grandchildren; numerous Great and Great Great Grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Archer Cemetery, Lashmeet, West Virginia with Rev Randolph Dishner officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2 - 5 PM at Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Mildred M. Shade (January 25, 2011)

Mildred M. Shade, 95, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 25, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born September 22, 1915 in Darke County, the daughter of the late Samuel and Eva Mae (Ford) Young. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Shade on September 16, 1982, brothers, Carl, Porter, and Dick Young, and sisters, Wanneta Bell and Virgil VanScoyk.

Mildred was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the Insurance Business. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church in Ansonia and she served as the 1st woman member on the School Board in Ansonia.

She is survived by her children, George (Louise) Shade, Kent Shade, Michael (Linda) Shade, Carol (Roy) Burnett, Donna (Robert) Herron; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren;

Graveside services will be held at 12 P.M. on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Fred Herron officiating.

There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Ansonia United Methodist Church.

Joyce E. Thornhill (January 25, 2011)

Joyce E. (Hill-Schlechty) Thornhill, 78, of Greenville and formerly of Ansonia, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 25, 2011, at Sterling House in Greenville.

She was born November 22, 1932 in Lynn, IN, daughter of the late Forest O. and Martha Ellen (Abner) Hill. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles W. Schlechty on June 11, 1966; her second husband, Nelson W. Thornhill on September 23, 1995; a sister, Janet Sickels; a brother, Jerald Hill; and step sons, Richard J. and David O. Thornhill.

Joyce was retired from the Greenville National Bank, Ansonia Branch where she had worked for 45 years. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist church and the Darke County Emmaus. She also was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 114 and a member of Twig 21.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Patricia) Schlechty, and Brenda J. Schlechty; step son, Donn (Charlene) Thornhill; a daughter-in-law, Karen Thornhill; a granddaughter, Amanda (Ed) Ryan; step grandchildren, Kim Cromwell, Jody (John) Lockhart, and Brian Thornhill; several step great and great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Frances Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, January 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor John Wiltshire officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Ansonia United Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice.

Bruce D. Swank (January 24, 2011)

Bruce D. Swank, 64, of Greenville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 24, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Hospice in Dayton.

He was born August 20, 1946 in Greenville, son of the late Ralph E. and Helen M. (Poling) Swank. In addtion to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Brandt.

Bruce was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam. He was retired from Judo Steel where he had worked as an Estimator. He was a member of the American Legion Post 140 in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine (Connelley) Swank, whom he married November 23, 1968; a daughter, Anita M. (Michael) Brandt of Slidell, LA; son, Bradley (Jennifer) Swank of Tipp City; grandsons, Michael Brandt, Jr., Justin Brandt, and Braden Swank; a brother, Robert Swank of Franklin, IN.; a sister, Joyce Pierron of MN.; sister-in-law Linda (John) Mentefering of MI; and special friends Linda and Larry Snider, and Mike and Lynn Howard.

Services with full military honor by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 12 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Doug Baker officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Dayton Veterans Administration Hospice.

June E. Marker (January 23, 2011)

June Evelyn (Ward) Marker, age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on January 23, 2011 at 2:55 PM at Wayne Healthcare, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on June 6, 1917 to the late Florence (Deeter) and Harry Ward who resided in Versailles, Ohio.


Mrs. Marker was a direct descendant of the famous and well known David and George Ward. David was a well known Indian fighter and one of the first settlers of Swamp Creek, Wayne Township, Darke County, and George, a soldier that fought in the revolutionary was under the General George Washington. We always think of the township and county as being Ward Country.

She was a graduate of Versailles High School, class of 1935. June was very active in sports, earning five varsity letters. Mrs. Marker was retired from Palace Department Store. She was a member of East Zion Church for many years. June was a member and past regent of the Fort Greenville Chapter of the DAR for over 60 years. Also a life member and past president of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a former member of the BPW club. She was also a member of the Darke County Genealogical Society and a member of the First Families of Darke County. Mrs. Marker was a life member of the DAR officers club and Pioneer Families of Darke County. She was also a member of the Heritage Club. She married the late L. Dan Marker in 1939, a marriage of nearly 60 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Helen Ward.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret (Ward) Ashman of Greenville; loved ones, Roberta Warner and Lori Stone of Greenville, Allie and Ben Davidson of Stafford, Virginia; sister in law, Joanna Schmermund of Texas; as well as numerous loving caregivers. June was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

There will be a service held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Payne and Pastor Sampson Bowman co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edith Madonna Sink (January 21, 2011)

Edith Madonna Sink age 92 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 12:47 P.M. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Wayne Health Care in Greenville. Madonna was born August 12, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late S.H. and Nellie (Shiverdecker) Pepple.

Madonna was an inspector at Fram for 30 years until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of Rossburg United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Madonna was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sink, whom she married March 7, 1936; sons, Larry and Robert Sink; grandson, Joseph Sink; brothers, Fremont, Adrian, Emery and Robert Pepple; and sisters, Curetta Subler, Mary Sink and Cecil Gilbert.

Madonna is survived by a daughter, Barbara Gutermuth of Rossburg; daughter-in-law, Cindy Sink of Rossburg; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Patty Sanders of Greenville; sister-in-law, Delores Pepple of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery in Brock. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossburg United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.

Brent Karns (January 19, 2011)

Brent Karns, 53, of Boca Raton, Florida, died Wednesday January 19, 2011 at his residence in the loving care of his wife and family after a courageous battle with cancer. Brent was born in Darke County on September 16, 1957 to the late Rex Karns and Sue Karns Stammen, who survives. He was a 1976 graduate of Arcanum High School. He loved all sports, the University of Houston, and the Cleveland Browns. He served in the U. S. Air Force and retired from the city of Boca Water Plant. Brent is survived by his wife Mary Karns; Mother Sue and husband David Stammen of Arcanum; Brothers Troy Karns and wife Geri, Rod Karns and wife Amber; Sisters Kelly Harmon and husband David, Kandy Rossi and husband Dani; Sister-in-Law Judy Clark; Brother-in-Law Greg Yeakey; Mother-in-Law Ann Shaffer; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Leo. Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday January 29, 2011 at Abbottsville Cemetery with Rev. Tim Lehman officiating and the Greenville Area Honor Guard conducting Military Services. Gene Cox (January 16, 2011)

Gene Cox, 80, of Greenville, died Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Cox was born in Butler Township, Darke County, on April 13, 1930, the son of the late Earl M. and Weltha C. (Noggle) Cox. He attended EUM Church, Greenville and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge #295, Arcanum and Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine. Gene was the owner of Royal Crest Distributors, Inc, Gene's, Inc. and a partner in Royal Crest Dairy, and involved in many other business adventures. Mr. Cox was a member of the Darke County Farm Bureau and The Elks, Greenville, and a former member of the Butler Township School Board. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Patricia (Riegle) Cox, whom he married December 29, 1951; sons Phillip G. Cox and wife Lois of Tipp City and Doug Cox of Troy; grandchildren Brandon Cox and Kevin Cox. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating and the Greenville Area Veterans providing military services. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft. Jefferson. The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday 5-8 PM and 1 hour before the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Helen Sue Keihl (January 20, 2011)

Helen Sue Keihl, age 67, of Versailles passed away January 20, 2011, in her home following an extended illness. She was born April 8, 1943, in Wolfe County, Kentucky, the youngest child of Paris and Emma Mae (Buchanan) Bradley. She graduated from Hazel Green Academy in 1960.


She is survived by her husband of 45 years David A. Keihl whom she married November 13, 1965, children Tabitha (Jeff) Clymer of Troy and David Todd (Shelly) Keihl of Bradford, her grandchildren Zane and Nelson Clymer who were her pride and joys, sisters Mildred Jones of Centerville and Fern Clark of Dayton. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Douglas Bradley, and sisters Bonnie Nickell, Margaret Brown, Betty Nickell, Jean Moehring, Naomi Nickell, Daphine Campbell, and infant sister Patricia Bradley.

Sue touched the lives of many. She was a loving wife, mother, mamaw, Grandma Sue, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a beloved Weight Watchers leader for the Versailles, Eaton, and Greenville communities for many years. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her home which was evident in the many number of garden and Christmas home tours she had.

Sue’s life will be honored on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Versailles Christian Church with Pastor Dennis Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, 653 Hickey Ave., Versailles. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to State of the Heart Hospice, 1350 North Broadway Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331-2461. The family also wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the Hospice staff that took care of Sue and to the many family and friends who prepared meals, sent words of encouragement, visited, and prayed for Sue and her family during her illness.

James Smith (January 18, 2011)

James William Smith age 74 of Ft. Loramie, Ohio, passed away at 6:43 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at his residence. James was born August 24, 1936 in Sidney, Ohio, to the late Ted & Bertha (Glick) Smith.


James retired from the State of Ohio Division of Parks Lake Loramie. He served in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, James is also preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Baker) Smith; and sister, Ruthie Hemlinger.

Annette L. Longenecker (January 18, 2011)

Annette L. Longenecker, age 57, of Laura, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Brookhaven Retirement Community, Brookville, Ohio. She was born on February 5, 1953 in Greenville, Ohio, to Elmer Longenecker of Laura, Ohio, and the late Ellen (Rasor) Longenecker. Annette was a self employed farmer.


In addition to her father she is survived by her daughter and son in law, Carmen (Trent) Yantes of Pacific, Missouri; son, Clay Morris of Greenville; grandchildren, Logan Yantes, Heather Morris, and Ryan Morris; brother, David Longenecker of Laura, Ohio; and sister, Anita Longenecker of Laura, Ohio.

Marjorie Jeffers (January 18, 2011)

Marjorie “Midge” Jeffries. Our mother has ended what she called her “full wonderful life” on January 18, 2011 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 8, 1926 to the late Milton M. & Regina C. (Duval) Woodbury. She resided in Greenville her entire life. After graduating from Greenville High school class of 1944, excelling in bookkeeping, she worked for DP&L, the city water office, and Darke Rural Electric Cooperative. Active on many committees for the class of ’44 alumni association, she was an integral part in keeping this class together for many years.

Her competitive spirit led her to many years of participation on several bowling leagues including many national events. She was an avid golfer and will be sorely missed by her golfing buddies.

Midge will be remembered for her incredible strength and love of family residing in both Ohio and Texas. She leaves behind her son, David Jeffries; daughter, Linda Morrow; grandchildren, Amber Stump, Carmen Jeffries, Matthew, Jonathan and Rebecca Morrow; and 8 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank her incredible number of friends for their love and support. We know you will miss her beautiful smile and her outrageous sense of humor. She will remain forever in our hearts and asked us all to remember the good times.

There will be a private memorial service held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers it is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to the State of the Heart Hospice, Greenville High School Musical Department, or charity of your choice.

Wilma Louise Musselman, age 76 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:20 AM Sunday January 16, 2011 at the residence of her daughter Diana. Wilma was born January 16, 1935 in Greenville, Ohio and the daughter of the late Wilbur and Kathryn (Wills) Musselman/

Wilma had been employed for the US Postal Service, retiring from the the Piqua Post Office and had also worked at the Greenville, Hollansburg and New Madison Post Offices.

She was a member of the Greenville VFW Booster’s Club, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary both of Greenville. She also enjoyed crocheting, making Rag Rugs and embroidering.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson US Army Specialist Eriel Luis Valdes; daughter Debbie Sue Sleppy; sisters Judy Timmons, Roberta Scheiding and Janet Sue Musselman.

She is survived by her sons and daughter in law Gregory Sleppy of Greenville, Terry and Glenna Sleppy of Bennett, Colorado and Randy Wayne Sleppy of Hollansburg. Daughters Diana “Dee” (Sleppy) Valdes of Greenville and Amber (Minnich) Profitt of Pitsburg, Ohio. Grandchildren Rene Sleppy, Joel Valdes, Cory Profitt, Brandy Profitt and Wyatt Sleppy. Great grandchild Rome Ezequiel Valdes. Brothers Charles Musselman of Greenville, James Musselman of Greenville, Delbert Musselman of Hillgrove and Gary Musselman of Hollansburg. Sisters and brothers in law Goldie White of Greenville, Phyllis and Robert Sherry of Greenville, Jenny Fields of Greenville, Cindy and Donald Ditty of Greenville and Bonnie and John Reed of Greenville. Jay W. Niswonger, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 16, 2011 at 5:35 AM at Vitas Hospice, Dayton, Ohio. He was born May 29, 1924 in Greenville, Ohio the son of the late Roscoe & Leafie Niswonger. He was a farmer and retired from Corning Glass. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of Fort Black Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, Darke County Shrine Club, V.F.W., & the Cannon Group for Greenville Football games. He loved watching his sons play and coach football, he loved watching the Valley View Spartans, he loved watching his crops grow, & hanging out at McDonalds with his circle of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Brother: Emil Niswonger; Niece: Carolyn Higgins.

He is survived by his Sons & daughter in law: Mark & Patty Niswonger of Edinboro, PA., Jay Niswonger of Germantown, Ohio; Daughter: Sylvia Niswonger of Fort Jefferson; Grandchildren: Megan & Josh Niswonger, Brandon Williams; Children’s mother: Carolyn Simon of Ft. Marlene L. Shafer, age 72 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:25 AM Saturday January 15, 2011 at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit Dayton, Ohio. Marlene was born July 28, 1938 in Darke County and the daughter of the late Lloyd & Stella (Dixon) Unger.

She was a homemaker. A member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Green Thumb Garden Club, Gourmet Dinner Club, enjoyed traveling in their RV with her husband Wayne and granddaughter Samantha. She also enjoyed her home life and family.

Marlene is survived by her husband Wayne L. Shafer of Greenville. They were married June 7, 1958 at the Caylor Chapel EUB Church. Also survived by her son and daughter in law Michael W. and Cathy Shafer of Indianapolis, Indiana and granddaughter Samantha Shafer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Thursday January 20, 2011 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM in the funeral home.

Alice B. Clark (January 14, 2011)

Alice B. Clark, 98, of Greenville and formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Friday evening January 14, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born December 24, 1912 in Darke County, daughter of the late Ortha and Bessie (Gibboney) Myers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold V. Clark; a son, Harold D. Clark; two daughters, Janet Clark and Welma Clark-Borges; and 7 brothers and sisters.

Alice attended Gettysburg School. She had owned and operated her own beauty salon for several years. She was a member of the former Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Gettysburg, and was 1st Lady Elder at Church and was a past Worthy Matron of the Gettysburg Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children, Rev. Perry (Rosie) Clark of Fountain Inn, SC, Patricia A. Nolan of Las Vegas, NV, and William H. (Delores) Clark of Greenville; 14 grandchildren: 34 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and a brother, William Myers of Colorado.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 18 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Perry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

Janet K. Smith, 63, of Rossburg, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at her residence.

She was born March 21, 1947 in Piqua, OH, daughter of the late William Robert and Icy Mae (Gibson) Smith.

Janet was a certified nurse’s aide having worked at the Versailles Healthcare Center. She was a member of the Humane Society and loved her cats.

She is survived by a sister, Karen (Ron) Fiste of Greenville; a niece, Melissa (Clayton) Ramsey; nephews, Matthew Brown and Shawn Fiste; great niece and nephews, Cody Brown, Jessica Klopfer and Ryan Klopfer.

A private service will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 19 from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to help defray funeral expenses.

Pauline G. Oliver, 97, of Greenville , passed away early Sunday morning, January 16, 2011 at Sterling House in Greenville.

She was born December 13, 1913 in Greenville Township , Darke County , daughter of the late Ernest and Sadie (Katzenberger) Ault. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gladden C. Oliver on July 8, 1985 , and a daughter, Charlotte Spencer.

Pauline was a licensed funeral director in the state of Ohio for over 50 years. In 1944, Pauline and her husband Gladden started the Oliver Funeral Home in Ansonia . In 1958 they expanded with the addition of the funeral home in Greenville . She was a member of the EUM Church in Greenville and was a former member of the Greenville Music Club.

She is survived by two sons, Benton (Bonnie) Oliver of Gallatin, TN, and Roger (Jerilyn) Oliver of Greenville; grandchildren, Tina (Dan) Ross, Becky (Keith) Reed, Tim (Claire) Oliver, Nanci (Mark) Willman, and Mike Oliver; step grandchildren, Chad (Melissa) Yoakam, Heather (Yoakam) Balent, and Josh Yoakam; great grandchildren, Jane and David Ross, Lincoln and Olivia Reed, Sam and Nora Oliver, Grant and Evan Willman, and Katie Oliver; and step great grandchildren, Nick and Ryan Balent, Samantha and Jeremy Yoakam, and Jacob Cristiano-Yoakam.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 18 at 3 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Mrs. Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery .

Arayah Hope Hudson, age 9 of Palestine, Ohio passed away at 11:03 AM Friday January 14, 2011 in the emergency room of Wayne Health Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Arayah was born March 13, 2001 in Beavercreek, Ohio and the daughter of Clyde & Dianna (Ford) Hudson of Palestine.


Arayah was a 3rd grade student at Tri-Village School and loved to read and play.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers Isaiah, Kishon, Silas and Simeon. Her sisters Justice and Journie. Maternal grandparents Nate & Karen Ford Sr. of Toledo and Diane & Raymond Mueller of California. Paternal grandparents Edna & Walter Dennis of Alabama. Also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday January 18, 2011 at the Sugar Grove Meeting House 6360 Farrington Road Covington, Ohio with Pastor John Brunk and Pastor Lydon Hartman co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. Mary Louise Monnin (January 14, 2011)

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mary Louise Monnin, age 82, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:30 A.M. at good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Daughter of the late Magdalene (Barhorst) Grilliot and also the daughter of the late Otto Grilliot; she was born on August 9, 1928 near Russia, Ohio.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca and Robert Condon, Bonnie and Larry Barga, both of Versailles; and her son, Robert and Angela Monnin of Hilliard, Ohio. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, Tina and Kevin Wibbeler, Matt and Annelies Condon, Mandy Gawelek, Traci and Jason Anthony, Corrie and Brian Holthaus, TJ Barga, Abigail Monnin, Carly Monnin and Samuel Monnin. Her thirteen great grandchildren were a joy to her. They included Maggie, Emily, and Thomas Wibbeler, Kees, Kasper, and Frits Condon, Henry and Leo Gawelek, Connor and Caroline Anthony, Carmen Holthaus, and Jac and Brody Barga. Her siblings include Purcell and Louise Grilliot, Delbert Grilliot, Delores Siegrist, Elaine Berger, Anna Schmitz, Henrietta and Thomas Winner, Tony and Marita Grilliot. Preceding her in death were brothers, Cleo Grilliot and Mark Grilliot.

She graduated from Versailles high School with the Class of 1946 where she was proud to be a Tiger cheerleader, starting a long tradition in the family. Mary Lou enjoyed her annual Poultry Days reunion with her classmates and birthday lunches with her girlfriends. She had been employed at Poultry Producers, Argosy, and retired from Fram. She very much enjoyed her employment at Fram and being a member of the “Fram Fillies”. She was a member of the Versailles Eagles Auxiliary and an original member of both the Versailles Life Squad and the “Trashy Ladies” Trash is Cash. She faithfully attended St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Ward S. Dunevant (January 13, 2011)

Ward S. Dunevant, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Gettysburg, Ohio, passed away on Thursday January 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Heartland of Greenville. He was born December 16, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late David Riley & Mabel G. (Warren) Dunevant. He worked for BF Goodrich for 37 ½ years. He served as Mayor of Gettysburg from 1988 to 1992 and served on Council for 14 years. He was also on the Volunteer Fire Department for several years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.


He was a member of East Zion Church, VFW, Piqua American Legion, Covington Eagles, Gettysburg Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, & the North American Hunting Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 1st Wife: Delores Dunevant; 2nd Wife: Reola D. Dunevant; Step Daughter: Carole Yount; Great Great grandson: Braedyn Michael Montgomery; Brothers: Harley Dunevant, Charlie Dunevant; Sisters: Ruby Palser, Mary Barnhardt.

Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and the Daughter’s of Isabella of the church.

In addition to her parents, Mary is also preceded in death by her husband, Claude M. “Pete” Ecabert on March 26, 1991 whom she married July 31, 1945; infant son, Denis Claude Ecabert; great granddaughter, Taylor Marie Griesdorn; brothers, Floyd, Cletus, Leroy, Robert, Paul, and infant Lewis Francis Richard; and sisters, Marie Farrer, infant Wilma Richard, Rita Fullenkamp and Rosemary Cordonnier.

Frances Rhoades age 81 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 1:45 P.M. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at her son’s residence. Frances was born August 22, 1929 in Miami County, Ohio, to the late Joe & Edith (Riegle) Shefbuch.

Frances was a homemaker and school teacher. Frances was a member of Webster United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She formerly was the Bible School Coordinator; and Sunday school Teacher for 47 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. Frances was also a member of the Wayne Grange; Treaty City Homemakers; and formerly a 4-H Advisor for 37 years.

In addition to her parents, Frances is also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Emerson Rhoades on October 12, 2007, whom she married December 29, 1950; brothers, Jacob and Kenneth Shefbuch; and sisters, Kay Hines and Sue Selander.

John W. Herron (January 8, 2011)

John W. Herron, age 64, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday January 8, 2011 at 4:25 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on May 11, 1946 in Celina, Ohio, to Irene (Schott) Herron of St. Henry, Ohio, and the late James D. Herron.


John Worked at GTI for 12 years and prior to that he worked at Lobdell Emery in Winchester, Indiana for 23 years.

John was a member of the 196th Light Infantry Brigade for the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War where he received 2 purple hearts.

He was a member of the VFW in Greenville, was an avid sports fan, loved spending time with his son and family and loved traveling with his wife.

In addition to his father he is preceded in death by his mother in law, Doris Kelch and brother in law, Paul Huntwork.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Bonnie (Kelch) Herron of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on July 19, 1968; son and daughter in law, Tim & Angela Herron of Lebanon, Ohio; grandchildren, Adam & Stephanie Herron; brothers and sisters in law, James D. & Karen Herron Jr. of Worthington, Ohio and Robert & Donna Herron of Greenville; sister, Lea Huntwork of Union City, Ohio; father in law, John Kelch of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Thursday January 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday January 12, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. There will be a graveside military service conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.

Wilma Jean Ward (January 8, 2011)

Wilma Jean Ward, age 87, formerly of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 9:25 AM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. She was born on June 16, 1923 in Preble County, Ohio, to the late Wilbur Ware & Marie (Suggs) Campbell.

Wilma worked as an assistant librarian at Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles, Ohio, retiring on December 30, 1987 after working there for 14 years. Prior to that she worked at the New Madison Public Library for 4 and half years.

She was a member of the Versailles Christian Church and the New Madison Grange.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Ward; brothers, Don and Dale Campbell; brother in law, Charles Flora.

Richard P. "Dick" Rentz (January 7, 2011)

Richard P. “Dick” Rentz, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 8:15 AM at his residence. He was born on June 29, 1931 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Albert & Wilma (Rose) Rentz.

He was a member of the United States Air Force. Dick worked in Business and was also a Teacher. He attended Greenville Grace Brethren Church. He was a member of the Community Blood Center Board and Greenville Masonic Lodge #143. Dick was a volunteer for the Greenville Athletic Department and was a member Greenville High School Hall of Fame. He sang in the Barbershop Chorus and was the secretary of the class of 1949.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Charles Rentz.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Mendenhall) Rentz of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on June 19, 1960; sons and daughter in law, John (Crystal) Rentz of Texas and David Rentz of California; twin brother, Robert Rentz of New Mexico; sister in law, Nancy Rentz of Maryland; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:30 AM at the Greenville Grace Brethren Church, 4805 St. Rt. 49 South, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Danny Wright officiating. There will be a private burial held at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 10-11:30 AM at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.

Catherine "Kate" Smith (January 6, 2011)

Catherine “Kate” Smith age 75 of Gettysburg, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 6:30 P.M. at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville after a courageous battle with cancer. Kate was born September 12, 1935 in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late George & Florence (Peters) Kissinger.


In addition to her parents, Kate is also preceded in death by a brother, Ted Kissinger.

Kate is survived by her husband of 58 years, Benjamin Smith; daughter & son-in-law, Sandra & David Hartley of Arcanum; son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Cindy Smith of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren, Talia Collins, McKalee Weidner, Carmen Trippier, Natalie Wolfe, Jill Loughnane and Brandon Hartley; 4 great grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Sam & Mary Kissinger; sister & brother-in-law, Pat & Adrian Petitjean; and sister-in-law; Mary Smith.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at Trinity Methodist Church 112 West South Street Arcanum, Ohio 45304 with Therese Lehman officiating. Edna Warner (January 6, 2011)

Edna Warner age 97 of Rural Bradford, Ohio, passed away at 1:15 P.M. on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Edna was born October 26, 1913 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Harvey & Bertha (Neff) North.


Edna was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, Edna is also preceded in death by her husband, Herman W. Warner on April 20, 1982, whom she married July 15, 1939; and her brothers and sisters.

Edna is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Norman & Judy Warner of Gettysburg; a daughter & son-in-law, Lois & Paul Thiesing Jr. of Covington; grandchildren, Jackie & Tim Seiber, Kimberly Hiegel, Beth & Doug Martin, David & Kristi Warner, Neil & Lori Thiesing, and Kyle & Nicholette Thiesing; great grandchildren, Dan & Renee Whittington, Derek Martin, Brittany Martin, Tyler Martin, Paul Hiegel Jr., Lucas Warner, Kathy Warner, Sam Warner, Joe Warner, Steve Warner, Drew Thiesing, Reese Thiesing, and Brock Thiesing; great great granddaughter, Jenna Whittington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothea D. Zumbrun (January 9, 2011)

Dorothea D. Zumbrun, 92, of Greenville, and formerly of Union City, OH, passed away late Sunday morning, January 9, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born in Union City on June 24, 1918, daughter of the late Herbert H. and Jenny (Williamson) Armold. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Raymond Zumbrun on February 13, 1995; a son, Eddie D. Zumbrun; a grandson, Terry Zumbrun; and brothers and sisters, Hilbert, Imogene and Thetis.

A homemaker, Dorothea was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Greenville. She was active in starting some of the garden and flower clubs in Darke County. Dorothea was a charter member of the Sun and Fun Garden Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie J. Zumbrun of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Connie S. Zumbrun of Union City, OH; grandchildren, Kerry (Stefanie) Zumbrun, Sherry (Sam) Keen, Darrick (Hettie) Hueber, Christina (Roger) Bowersock, and Joe (Lora) Hueber; 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Armold of Union City, OH; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, January 13, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Dale Boerger officiating. Burial will take place in the Union City Cemetery.

Carl J. Hoening (January 9, 2011)

Carl J. Hoening, 83, of Gettysburg, OH passed away Sunday afternoon, January 9, 2011 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville.

He was born in Burkettsville, OH on October 11, 1927, son of the late Paul A. and Rosa (Hart) Hoening. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hoening.

Carl was a veteran of the US Army having served in occupied Japan following WWII. He retired in 1990 from New Idea, Coldwater, Ohio where he worked as a welder for many years. He was also a milkman for several years in the Union City area. He was an honorable man who instilled the love and respect he had for nature in all of his children. Carl was an avid horseman in his youth. He loved deer hunting with his sons in Southern Ohio and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association of America. Above all else he loved God and cherished his family and the time spent with them.

LeRoy J. Brown (January 6, 2011)

LeRoy J. Brown, 65, of Versailles, passed away Thursday evening, January 6, 2011 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Dayton.

He was born in Richmond, IN on May 11, 1945, son of the late Isaac and Sarah (Trissel) Brown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Inez Brown; and brothers, Tony, Ralph, Dave and Ed Brown, and Raymond Boggs.

LeRoy was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam Era. He had worked as a security guard and served on the Ansonia Police Department in the 1970's.

He is survived by his brothers, Isaac Brown of Greenville, William J. Brown of West Salem, OH, Andy Brown of Winchester, IN and Michael Brown of Greenville; and sisters, Sarah Jean Ward of Reno, NV and Ann Devore of Wooster, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 13, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Fr. John White officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dayton National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to help defray funeral expenses.

Greyson Steyer (January 3, 2010)

Greyson James Steyer, 3 months 24 days, of Greenville, Ohio, was called to heaven by God on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 3:23 PM at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. He is the son of Matt and Mindy (Class) Steyer of Greenville, Ohio.

Greyson was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Lester nd Gertrude Dispennette and Bernard and Verda Class; paternal great grandparents, Gordon and Lydia LaFleur and Catherine Steyer.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his brother, Gibson Steyer who lives at home, paternal grandparents, Jim and Kathy Steyer of Greenville, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Diana nd Bob Class of Greenville, Ohio; paternal great grandfather, Louis Steyer of Tiffin, Ohio; uncle and aunt, Dan and Jeri Class of Greenville, Ohio.

There will be a private service held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery in Greenville, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. A celebration of Greyson life will be held at a later date.


Paul Thobe (January 5, 2011)

Paul Eugene Thobe, age 74, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Versailles, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 4:30 PM at his residence. He was born on April 23, 1936 in Versailles, Ohio to his late step father and mother Francis nd Evelyn Marchal.

Paul was a self employed farmer and was a member of the Eagles in Celina, Ohio, National Gun and Rifle Association, and St. Denis Catholic Church. Paul was an avid giver to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and really enjoyed Drag Racing.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Emma and Fred Thobe; brothers, Gary L. “Jake” Marchal and Henry Marchal; an infant brother and sisters; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Kathy (Larry Back) Quinn of New Madison, Ohio, Robin (Rick) Thobe Plessinger of Union City, Ohio, Carla (Richard) Hollinger of New Madison, Ohio, and Linda Frazier of North Carolina; grandchildren, Lacy Plessinger, Nicole Burke, Scott Hollinger, Amber Plessinger, and Heather Brown; 6 great grandchildren; sisters and brothers in law, Virginia Rinderle of Versailles, Ann Link of Versailles, Evelyn “Margie” (Terry) Young of Russia, and Mary Lou (Chuck) Runner Thompson of Versailles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

William W. "Bill" Westfall (January 4, 2011)

William W. “Bill” Westfall, age 83 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:40 P.M. Tuesday January 4, 2011 at Wayne Health Care, Greenville, Ohio. Bill was born October 4, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio and the son of the late Edward Francis and Tillie (Muccie) Westfall.

Bill retired in 1991 from Corning Glass of Greenville and was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the Greenville V.F.W., had coached little league baseball in the mid 60’s and a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann (Dakin) Westfall January 22, 2007. They were married July 15, 1950. Also by his sisters Thelma F. Oler, Edwina Ann Rehmert and Caroline Elizabeth Studebaker.

He is survived by sons and daughter in law William E. and Barbara Westfall and Jerry L. Westfall all of Greenville. Daughters and sons in law Dianne and Dennis Beutler and Sheila and Tim Harbison all of Greenville. Grandchildren and spouses Sarah and Kyle Emery, Amanda and Kevin Martin, Dustin and Jayzell Beutler, Danae and Stephen Cox, Jennifer Westfall, Randall and Brenda Westfall. Great grandchildren Kiersten Martin, Makayla Martin, Addison Martin, Amelia Emery, Hayley Penka, Kyleigh Cox and Hunter Cox. Brother Raymond “Lefty” Westfall of Greenville. Wanda Flanagan (December 31, 2011)

Wanda Pearl Applegate Flanagan age 80 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 1:15 P.M. on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville. Wanda was born July 10, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Roy and Dorothy (Brown) Johnson.

Wanda worked at Randolph County Hospital for 20 1/2 years until her retirement in March of 1995.
In addition to her parents, Wanda is also preceded in death by her 1st husband, William Charles Applegate; 2nd husband, Harold Flanagan; grandson, Timmy Nickell; and son-in-law, Jack Moody.

Wanda is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Faye Moody of Miamisburg, Ohio, Agnes Ray and Chris Hudson of Winchester, Indiana and Wannetta Gaye and Rex Nickell of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Coy and Jennifer Applegate of Winchester, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brothers, Roy Johnson Jr. of Germantown, Ohio and James O. Johnson of Franklin, Ohio; sisters, Barbara Monce of Franklin, Ohio and Ernestine Chamberlain of Franklin, Ohio; and a special friend, Ruth Howard.

Perry Edward Kuhn (January 2, 2011)

Perry Edward Kuhn left his earthly life on Sunday, January 2, 2011, to go to his heavenly reward. He was born to Perry A. and Bessie (Hammond) Kuhn in Pickaway County, Ohio, on December 30, 1923. At 14 years of age, he moved to Darke County, Ohio, where he lived the remainder of his life. He received an honorable medical discharge from the Navy during World War II in 1942. His love for music began at 16 years of age by playing in many country and western bands. However, after a dramatic conversion to Christ, he then devoted himself to gospel music. During the years, he played with many well-known gospel groups. He is also the father of the locally known Kuhn Sisters. He married the former Betty Paff from Arcanum, Ohio. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage and 5 children. He is survived by one son, William Edward Kuhn, and his wife, Joyce, of Granger, IN; four daughters and sons-in-law: Leora (Kuhn) and Emerson Minnich of Nappanee, IN; Marlyn (Kuhn) and Don Shellabarger of Brookville, OH; Janet (Kuhn) and James Dunwoody of Ansonia, OH; and Eva (Kuhn) and Harold (Sonny) Custer of Greenville, OH. God also blessed Perry and Betty with 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great-grandchildren. During the years, Perry worked in car sales and various factory positions, having finished his career being self-employed in Suburban TV Repair before retiring in 1988. Although a member of the Greenville Missionary Church, he was physically unable to attend for several years while he was a resident of Rest Haven Nursing Home. The wonderful staff and nurses there were such a blessing to him and his family in his final days here on earth. He is survived by his wife, Betty; a sister, Nona Aunspaw of San Jacinta, CA; his five children and their families and many nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Thursday January 6, 2011 at the Greenville Missionary Church with the Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. The visiting hours will be 4 – 8 PM Wednesday at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum. Memorial contributions can be made to The Gideons International for Bibles in his honor.

Leota M. Hunt, 89, of Greenville, formerly of Arcanum died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville. Mrs. Hunt was born in Piqua on May 2, 1921. She was a Homemaker and Mother. Leota was preceded in death by her husband Boyd Hunt who died June 13, 2003, 2 sisters Dorothy Kesting and Margaret Scamahorn. Mrs. Hunt is survived by daughters Linda Hunt of Hammond, LA and Vicki Rademachir of Greenville; son Dan Hunt of Arcanum; 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum with Rev Tom Hite officiating. H. Royer Fourman (December 30, 2010)

H. Royer Fourman, 89, died Thursday December 30, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville where he had resided for seven years. Royer was a former resident of the Arcanum area. Mr. Fourman was born February 6, 1921 in Twin Township to the late Cleveland and Jessie (Kearns) Fourman. He was a retired Twin Township farmer, a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum, former Twin Township Trustee, active in the Gordon and Faith United Methodist Churches. He was a veteran of the Navy, WWII serving as a medic. Royer was preceded by first wife Dorothy (Hunter) Fourman, second wife Maxine Fasnaught Fourman, Daughter Jeannie Mills, and a Grandson Aaron Mills. He is survived by Daughter Nancy (John) Weisenbarger of Arcanum; Grandchildren Melissa (Todd) Orr of Arcanum, Steve (Cyndie) Weisenbarger of Bellbrook, Amy (Bryan) Wade of Vandalia, Jeremy (Kirsten) Mills of Arcanum; 7 Great Grandchildren Christie (Gavid) Rader, Brandon Orr, Gavin, Adam, and Isaac Mills, Kara and Devin Wade; 3 Step Children Linda (Jonathon) Wells, Bob (Carol) Fasnaught, and Jim Fasnaught; numerous Step Grand and Step Great Grandchildren; Sister Helen North of Arcanum and Sisters-in-law Verna Mae (Richard) Rhoades and Carol (Vance) McKinney.
