Earl V. Bricker (December 21, 2013)

Earl V. Bricker, age 92 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday December 21, 2013 at 6:02 PM at Reid Hospital, Richmond, Indiana. He was born May 22, 1921 in Celina, Ohio the son of the late John K. & Mabel (Rush) Bricker. He served in the pacific theater in United States Army during World War II as a cook and a medic. His combat service began in Australia, and he “island hopped” threw New Guinea and the Philippines, and then ended as part of the occupation of Japan. He worked as a Mechanic and Press Operator at Goodyear in St. Mary’s for 28 years retiring in 1979 he then worked for 15 years at Plants of Ruskin in Florida as a Master Gardener.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; and a life member of D.A.V. in Wapakoneta.
He is preceded in death by his parents; & brothers: Bevan & Lester Bricker.

He is survived by his wife: Laura L. (Young) Bricker of Greenville whom he married April 7, 1947; daughters & son in law: Laura Lee Marshall of Omaha, NE., Sandra Jayne & Pete Wolf of Piqua; grandchildren: Michael Nesbitt, Jill Nesbitt, Dannielle Marshall, Kylle Dietz, Chet Knous, & Lacie Schuller; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brothers & sisters in law: Don & Donna Bricker of Celina, Carl & Barb Bricker of Greenville, Gene Bricker of Indianapolis, IN.

Services will be held on Saturday December 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday December 27, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Disabled American Veterans, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Shirley Mae Ditmer (December 21, 2013)

Shirley Mae Ditmer, 82, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at National Health Care in Sumter, South Carolina.

Born May 19, 1931 in Versailles Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Raymond Stoner and Mildred Westphal Stoner.

Mrs. Ditmer was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Sidney Ohio and was retired from Stolle Corporation where she was in administration.

Surviving is her daughter Peggy Cotterman and Husband Rob of Sumter SC, Four grandchildren Rusty Cotterman of Vass NC, Travis Cotterman of Dalzell SC, Jenna Rousseau of Mt. Pleasant SC and Emily Rousseau of Pittsburg PA, and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands Jacob Ditmer, William Campbell and a daughter Pamela Ann Rousseau.

Daniel "Danny" S. Whitley II (December 17, 2013)

Daniel "Danny" S. Whitley II, 25, of Wayne Lakes, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Danny was born on February 24, 1988 in Dayton, Ohio to Daniel S. Whitley and Sherry (Wetzel) Reynolds.

Danny loved to read, watch science fiction shows and movies. He enjoyed camping and hanging out with friends. He had also recently found a passion for welding and was pursuing a career in this field. Danny had a special place in his heart for children.

Danny is preceded in death by a brother, Seanathan Clark; paternal grandparents, Richard and Joan Whitley; and an uncle, Richard Wetzel.

In addition to his parents, Danny is survived by maternal grandparents, Linda and Robert Weaver of Greenville and Don Wetzel of Mississippi; two brothers, Austin and Jayden of Palestine, Ohio; an uncle, Chris Whitley and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 26, 2013 at 4:00 PM at Ft. Jefferson Methodist Church with Rev. John McRoberts officiating. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 2-4 PM. Burial will immediately follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Thomas Christopher "Chris" Kimberlin (December 20, 2013)

Thomas Christopher "Chris" Kimberlin, 48, of West Manchester, passed away on December 20, 2013 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

Chris was born on July 17, 1965 in Dayton, Ohio to Thomas and the late Charlotte (Cline) Kimberlin. Chris was self employed as owner of the ABC Drywall and Construction company. He loved to collect knives and guns and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Chris coached baseball and loved to watch MMA fighting.

In addition to his father, Chris is survived by his wife, Joye (Fisher) Kimberlin whom he married on June 24, 1989; two sons, Thomas Andrew Kimberlin of West Manchester and Robert Arron Kimberlin of West Manchester; a brother, Henry Joseph Kimberlin of Dayton, Ohio; and a sister, Debra Sue Kimberlin of Richmond, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison with Rev. Tony Price officiating. Jay Brian Jobes, age 47 of Union City, Ohio, passed away on Friday December 20, 2013 at 3:44 AM at the Union City Care Center, Union City, Ohio. He was born July 9, 1966 in Greenville, Ohio the son of Martha Jane (Foureman) Jobes of Arcanum and the late Lowell J. Jobes.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Donna Kay (Rhoades) Fritz, age 75 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday December 20, 2013 at 12:55 AM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born January 13, 1938 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Jennings & Josie (Sharp) Rhoades.

She is survived by her husband: Donald Fritz of Greenville whom she married October 4, 1958; son & daughter in law: Kevin & Kim Fritz of Greenville; grandchildren: Matthew (Jody) of Marysville, Ohio, Amanda of Dayton, Ohio, & Levi McCuiston; great grandchildren: Landon, & Layla; brothers & sisters in law: Harold & Betty Rhoades of Troy, Lowell & Eileen Rhoades of Dawn; brother in law: John Pepiot of Versailles; sister in law: Juanita Rhoades of Greenville; numerous nieces & nephews.

The Fritz family who she was close to preceding her in death are Loretta (Alton) Millet, Edwin (Fay) Fritz, Walter Fritz, Phyllis Fritz Koetter, John (Whilma) Fritz, Anna Belle (Gene) Brewer, Robert (Survived by Judy) Fritz, and surviving in laws are Lloyd (Avesta) Fritz, Clifford (Frances) Fritz, Carol Fritz, Rita Fritz, David Clarence (Barbara) Fritz.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother: Chalmer Rhoades and a sister: Gladys Pepiot.

She is a graduate of Versailles High School in 1956 and had worked at the Darke County Extension Office for 32 years. She was a homemaker, loved her family and the church. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Greenville, Ohio.

Private Services will be held at Faith Baptist Church 740 East Russ Road, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bill Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday December 27, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Mary Evelyn Crose (December 19, 2013)

Mary Evelyn Crose, 73, of Greenville, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 19, 2013, at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born March 26, 1940, in Darke County, daughter of the late David H. and Treva E. (Stout) Bryson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Don Bryson.

Mary Evelyn had worked as a nursing assistant at the former Union City Hospital. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church near Union City.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Crose of Greenville, Charles (Bev)Crose of Bellefontaine, and Christine (Bobby) Peters of Muncie, IN; grandchildren, Justin, Sarah, Micha, Faith, Rachael, and Patty; great grandchildren, Madison, Mikey, and Colton; a sister, Karen Young of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 24, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Raper Chapel Cemetery near Union City.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 12 p.m. till 1 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Heartland Hospice.

Ralph Edward Beasecker (December 16, 2013)

Ralph Edward Beasecker, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:42 P.M. Monday December 16, 2013 in the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Ralph was born September 9, 1927 in Arcanum, Ohio and the son of the late Ray and Rhea (Guthridge) Beasecker.

Ralph was the owner and operator of Beasecker Cleaners from 1957 until 2013 and had been the owner of numerous Coin-Op Laundromats in the area for many years. He was also a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, Nomad’s Camping Association and the Friendship Club of Dayton which enabled Dawn and Ralph to travel worldwide. Ralph also enjoyed playing golf, fishing and piloting his own plane. He was a member of the former Greenville Country Club serving as President, Greenville Kiwanis Club also as President, Greenville Elk’s Lodge, the Greenville Masonic Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton where he was a member of the “Bobbies”, Darke County Shrine Club where he had served as President and The Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Grandson Chad Gibbons; sister Susie Suarez and half-brother Ray Beasecker Jr.

Ralph is survived by his wife Dawn E. (Tester) Beasecker of Greenville. They were married March 21, 1948. Also by a son Mike Beasecker of Las Vegas, Nevada, daughter and son in law Linda and Randy Gibbons of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; grandchildren Jessica Beasecker, Ashley Beasecker, Andi Gibbons Brown and B.J. Gibbons; great grandchildren Kylee Brown, Keegan Brown, Kyndall Brown, Romi Gibbons and Mia Gibbons.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 19, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Angela Meeks officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday 1 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Margaret L. Hocker (December 15, 2013)

Margaret L. Hocker, age 100 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:30 P.M. Sunday December 15, 2013 in the Sterling House of Greenville, Ohio. With her family, she had recently celebrated her 100th birthday, having been born August 10, 1913 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Beecher and Emila (Root) Williamson.

Margaret was a homemaker and a Lifetime member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold R. Hocker July 7, 2001. They were married February 22, 1936. Also a son Robert L. Hocker in 2005; 1 grandson, 1 great granddaughter and a sister Mildred Scammahorn.

Margaret is survived by her children Barbara (Don) Leis, Everett R. Hocker, Terry M. (Carla) Mulligan all of Greenville and Patti L.( Jim) Kornoelji of Rockford, MI; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister in law Eileen Hocker of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday December 20, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Steve Shoop officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. The family will receive on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Friday 1/2 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Benjamin "Ben" F. Shahan Jr. (December 15, 2013)

Benjamin "Ben" F. Shahan Jr., 72, of Greenville, passed away on December 15, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Ben was born on June 29, 1941 Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Benjamin F. Sr. and Gladys (Mullins) Shahan.

Ben retired as a computer programmer for Nissan in Smyrna,TN, He was a 1959 graduate of Greenville High School. Ben enjoyed watching The Ohio State Football and NASCAR and going fishing. Most of all Ben enjoyed spending time with his family.

Ben is survived by a son, Tim and Shelli Shahan of New Madison; grandchildren, Alex and Carson Shahan of New Madison; sisters, Ida "Lee" and Robert Farmer of Wayne Lakes, Ohio and Elsie and Jack Lane of Greenville.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11 AM. Family and friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service. Private burial will follow at a later date in the Monroe Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions be given to Darke County Cancer Society.

Donald E. Hembree (December 13, 2013)

Donald E. Hembree, 78, of Palestine, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Wayne Health Care State of the Heart Hospice Care in Greenville. Donald was born March 13, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Howard and Bertha (Hemmerick) Hembree.

Donald worked as an RV Tech at Tom Raper. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Donald was a Member of the American Legion Post #665 in West Manchester. He enjoyed gardening, his dogs and family.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Norma I. (Schlechty) Hembree of Palestine; four sons, Donald and Brenda Hembree of New Paris, Randy and Wanda Hembree of Eaton, Gary and Kathy Hembree of Harrison, Ohio and Douglas and Kachina Hembree of Richmond, Indiana; two daughters, Cindy Kudor of Washington and Brenda Hembree of Eaton; a step son, Jesse Sleppy of Columbus and a step daughter, Jeanna Sleppy of Palestine; a brother, Tom and Ruth Hembree of California; a sister, Flora L and Steve Ferlita of South Carolina; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013, 7 PM at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison with the Rev. Mike Simmons officiating. Margaret Alice Thomas-Lumpkin (December 14, 2013)

Margaret Alice Thomas-Lumpkin, 93, of Greenville, passed away on December 14, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Margaret was born on August 4, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Raymond and Hazel (Moore) Brinley.

Margaret was a graduate of Palestine High School, where she played basketball. Margaret was a homemaker and farmer’s wife her whole life raising cattle, pigs and various other farm animals. She loved the farm life and was very active in her children’s 4-H projects at the Darke County Fair and Ohio State Fair. Margaret was a member of the Hollansburg Christian Church and was formerly on the Board of Directors. She also worked at the Hamburger Shoppe in Greenville, the Meguiar Cannery of Glen Karn and The Glen Karn Poultry Co. Margaret was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hollansburg. Margaret enjoyed working in her yard and garden when she was able. She also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Karl H. Thomas who passed away in April of 1984; her second husband, Raymond Lumpkin; a daughter, Marcia Bruner; a daughter in law, Sandy Thomas; three brothers and three sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Ronald Thomas of New Madison, Jerry and Dalene Thomas of Greenville and Mark Thomas of Hollansburg; son-in-law, Rick Bruner of Arcanum; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Lowell Brinley of Greenville.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hollansburg Christian Church on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Joe Hanna officiating. Susan A. Mitchell-Dunevant (December 14, 2013)

Susan A. Mitchell-Dunevant, 72, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, December 14, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

She was born May 9, 1941 in Shelby County, daughter of the late August and Annie (Schnner) Freistuhler. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her second husband, John T. Mitchell in 1970; a sister, Sarah; and two brothers, Ed and John.

Susan is survived by her husband, Kenneth Dunevant; a daughter, Betty A. (Steve) Via of Greenville; her first husband, Gene Etzler; a sister, Mary Riethman of St. Mary's; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Gary L. Devor (December 13, 2013)

Gary L. Devor, age 54 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:16 A.M. Friday December 13, 2013 at his residence. He was born September 30, 1959 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of Mary (Smith) Devor of Greenville and the late Jack Devor.

He was employed at the Pac N Sac station in North Star, Ohio and a member of the Greenville American Legion, Richmond Eagles Lodge and as a youth loved to play baseball.

In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by his wife Cindy R. (Holden) Devor of Greenville. They were married October 27, 1984. Also by a son Cory L. (Jennifer) Devor of St. Marys, Ohio; daughter Sarah B. Devor of Greenville; grandchildren Alaina and Adeline Devor; brother Randy (Becky) Devor of Sarasota, Fla.; 2 cousins Chris Devor and Sherry Zigler as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday December 17, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Gary Oser officiating. James A. “Jim” Honeycutt, age 61, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 5:35 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. He was born on December 14, 1951 in Knox County, Kentucky, to Gerry (Gray) Honeycutt of Greenville and the late Thomas G. Honeycutt.

Jim worked at Sheller Globe in Union City.

He is preceded in death by his father; wife, Phyllis Honeycutt; and grandmother, Mary Cooper.

There will be a private service held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Doug Klinsing officiating. Burial will be in the Greenville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

William "Bill" E. Noggle (December 11, 2013)

William "Bill" E. Noggle, 60, of Greenville, Passed away on December 11, 2013 at The Village Greene. Bill was born on February 3, 1953 in Dayton, Ohio to the late William and Hazel (Coulter) Noggle.

Bill worked as a sub contractor for Dayton Daily Newspaper, worked for the Conrail railroad and the Carpenter Bus Factory in Richmond, Indiana. He was very patriotic man. He loved the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Football team. Bill was very active in sports especially bowling and golf. Bill enjoyed golf outings and playing euchre with his friends. Bills favorite season was Christmas. He played santa and brought joy to all he knew. He was a NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was Tony Stewart.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ida Jeanette (Miniard) whom he married on June 5, 1998; three sons, Joshua Miniard of Greenville, Donald O'Rock of Dayton, Ohio and Edward and Keri O'Rock of Ft. Bragg, NC; a foster daughter, Julie Huntington of Greenville; mother-in-law, Lena Miniard of Hyden, KY; sister-in-laws, Helen Miniard-Caldwell of Kettering, Ohio and Shirley and Mike Mantell of SW Ranches, Florida; brother-in-law, Bill Miniard of Hyden, KY; best friend, John Crider of Greenville, Ohio; aunt, Sally Houser of New Paris, Ohio; children close to his heart, Courtney, Carmen, Clarissa, Camren, Dakota, Alexa, Aaron and Nathan; Also his special buddy, his dog, Tyson and many other close family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 2 PM at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison with the Rev. Eric Fee officiating. Billy Joe Abney, 79, of New Madison, passed away on December 11, 2013 at his residence. Bill was born on February 1, 1934 in Rock Castle County, Kentucky to the late Walter Lee and Reca Christine (Baker) Abney.

Bill worked at Ludy's Greenhouse in the construction department. He loved Bluegrass music, classic cars, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Anglin) Abney; a son, Jeffery A. Abney, and brothers, Melvin, Danny and Garnett Abney.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty J. Kathryn J. “Kathy” Holaday (December 11, 2013)

Kathryn J. “Kathy” Holaday, age 64 of Xenia, Ohio and formerly of Gettysburg, Ohio passed away at 12:55 A.M. Wednesday December 11, 2013 in the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Kathy was born August 7, 1949 in New Castle, Indiana and the daughter of the late Robert and Maxine (Koch) Holaday.

She had retired from Wilmington High School as a Home Economics Teacher and most recently had been employed at Alterations Unlimited of Fairborn, Ohio.

Kathy was a 1967 graduate of Gettysburg High School and a 1971 graduate of Ohio University. She was also a former member of the Gem City Sweet Adelines.

Kathy is survived by two sisters Karen Caudill of Dayton and Christine (Stephen) Deeter of Greenville; nieces Amy (Steve) Seegmiller of Selden, Kansas and Carmen Denham of Greenville; great nieces and great nephew Jordan Seegmiller, Zachariah Denham, Christine “CJ” Denham and Cami Denham; close friends Marian Scarazzo and Debra Bringman both of Troy, Ohio.

Corynna R. Strawser, age 16, of Greenville, Ohio, went to be home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 9:47 AM at her residence with family by her side. She was born on April 28, 1997 to Sean & Kristi (Cook) Strawser of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her grandparents, Mike & Penny Strawser of Greenville, Teresa Stetler-Clear of Springfield, Phil & Arin Cook of Lewisburg and Mike Mowery of Greenville; great grandparents, Mae Clear of Greenville, Berlen Strawser of Greenville and Edith Cook of Greenville; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and generous, loving and caring community.

She is preceded in death by her brother and sister, Ian & Kaitlyn Strawser.

Corynna was in the class of 2015 at Greenville High School. She was a member of the Greenville Missionary Church and was a volunteer at the Brethren Retirement Community. Corynna was a make-up artist and was very passionate about dancing. She was involved with the 5 6 7 8 dance studio and competitive dancing at the Barbara Rethlake Dance Studio in Greenville. Corynna was the inspiration to start the Acts of Kindness Club at the Greenville High School and throughout the past year she was dedicated to the awareness of Mitochondrial Disease.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 2-6 PM and on Monday from 1-2 PM at the funeral home.

Lloyd J. Harpest, age 99 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:36 A.M. Sunday December 8, 2013 at Sunrise of Lincoln Park Chicago. Illinois.

Lloyd was born December 6, 1914 in Darke County Ohio and the son of the late Clarence and Vera (Hern) Harpest.

He was a retired dairy farmer and a lifelong member of the Oakland Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Esther (Fasnacht) Harpest May 22, 1976; second wife Mary L. (Oakes) “Lutz” Harpest March 8, 2012; brothers Russel Harpest and Harold Harpest; sisters Melba Rice and Ruth Schlechty.

Lloyd is survived by a son Will Harpest of Chicago, Ill., daughters and son in law Naomi Harpest of Aurora, Ill. and Janice and Richard Priggie of Moline, Ill., step sons and their spouses David and Irene Lutz of Roanoke, Ind. and Dennis and Farideh Lutz of Longmont, CO; grandchildren David Harpest, Julie (Drew) Collins, Laura (Max Brueggermeyer) Studebaker, Christina Studebaker, Katherine Priggie, Daniel Priggie and David Priggie; step grandchildren David Michael (Michelle) Lutz , Andrew Dennis (Mia) Lutz, Joni Lutz and Jeff (Kelly)Lutz; great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Nathanael, Gabriel and 11 step great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dr. Joseph W. Worz, age 88, of Wayne Lakes, OH, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born April 4, 1925, in Mantua, OH, a son of the late Nicholas and Magdalena Worz.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the New Madison Masonic Lodge. He retired from chiropractic service at age 83 after over 50 years in practice.

Leona E. Sheets (December 6, 2013)

Leona E. Sheets, age 99, died peacefully in her Greenville home December 6, 2013. She was born in Sharpsburg, Ohio on October 20, 1914 a daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Overman) Gehle.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Sheets, whom she married March 16, 1937; two children, John E. and Barbara J Sheets; 12 brothers, sisters and their spouses as well as Arthur’s five brothers, sisters and their spouses.

Leona was a hard working wife of a farmer. She raised four children, she cooked, cleaned, gardened, canned food, cared for chickens and milked cows. During tomato season she worked at a local canning factory for several years. She did volunteer work for Head Start for many years making and repairing clothing for dolls. When her daughter, Barbara, had a tragic accident, Leona cared for her for 15 years until her death in 2007. Leona liked to cook, travel, read and to help others. She was known for her ready smile and positive attitude.

Leona was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church since 1930 and had also been a member of St. Mary’s Church in Greenville since she moved to Greenville 25 years ago. They were so kind to her.

She is survived by her children, Bernadine A. (Victor) Niekamp of North Star, Ohio, Daniel J. (Nancy) Sheets on Benton, TN and Kenansville, FL; grandchildren, Kelly Singletary of Beauford, SC, Jeff (Julie) Niekamp of Sidney, OH, Holly (Jamie) McPherson of Lawrenceville, GA, Stan (Diane) Niekamp of Versailles, OH, Sharon Neikamp of Tucson, AZ, Jim Niekamp of North Star, OH; great-grandchildren, Zach Niekamp, Kyle Niekamp, Daniel Kobe Singletary, Brandon McPherson, Jared Niekamp, Cole Niekamp, Matthew Niekamp and Mary Margaret McPherson. Hazel Irene Beasley age 92, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:46 P.M. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at her residence. Hazel was born July 28, 1921 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Virgil & Maude (Rench) Fourman.

Hazel is survived by her daughters & son-in-law, Shirley Morrow of Greenville, Ohio and Diane & Jerry Billenstein of Rossburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Deb Shiverdecker, Lisa & Jim Thomas, Jeff Morrow, Tony Morrow, Jason & Kelly Billenstein, Kim & Jamie Campbell, Jennifer & Shawn McDufford and Ryan & Priscilla Billenstein; 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Lois Calvert of Brookville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Hazel is also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Victor Beasley; son-in-law, Horace Morrow; brothers, Charles and Robert Fourman; and sister, Frances Bruner.

Hazel was a homemaker. She formerly worked at Fram Corporation in Greenville. Hazel attended the Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville.

Larry D. Resor (December 4, 2013)

Larry D. Resor passed away December 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a cancer survivor and had courageously fought infection in his body for over 20 years.

He was born in Union City, Indiana on July 30, 1940 to Orville and Ruby (Alley) Resor. He graduated from New Madison High School in 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia (Resor) Blinn, a brother Gary Resor.

He worked at Sheller-Globe, Hardy Division in Union City, Indiana for over 32 years until its closing and later Corning Glass.

He had a great sense of humor and was quite a jokester. He loved to grow flowers and garden, especially growing big home grown tomatoes. He was an avid softball pitcher on several teams in the area in his younger years and also coached girl’s softball for many years. He loved to go camping, watch NASCAR racing and listen to country music. He had great love for his family and friends. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandson. He was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane (Peden) Resor, son Scott Resor, daughter Lori Lloyd (Bryan) both of Greenville, Ohio and daughter Angie Resor of WI. Grandchildren Liz Resor (Jeremy Lovy), Olivia Resor, Josh Magoto, Molly Magoto, Antonio Resor, step grandchildren Tavis Lloyd, Caitlin Lloyd and great grandson Mason Hart. A sister Fadonna Campbell of FL. and a brother Terry Resor of Greenville, Ohio, a special brother in law, Dick Peden, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Velma L. Stonerock (December 3, 2013)

Velma L. Stonerock, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday December 3, 2013 in her residence. Velma was born October 17, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Christian and Anna (Kruckeburg) Rismiller also of Darke County.

She had been employed for 37 years with Dayton Power & Light Company, retiring in 1981 as Office Manager of their Greenville office. Velma was a graduate of Greenville High School, had been an active member of the Greenville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, for many years had served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls and contributed to the Wayne Hospital Auxiliary by knitting baby caps for all the newborns in the Wayne Hospital Nursery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Stonerock November 13, 2003. They were married November 5, 1939 in Greenville. Also a granddaughter Kristen Ream August 12, 2011; brother Herschel Rismiller and sister Irene Poppe.

Velma is survived by her daughters and sons in law Constance and Everett Hart of Greenville and Susan and Dennis Ream of Kettering. Grandchildren Dr. Roxanne Cech, Gregory and Laura Hart and Meredith Ream. Great Grandchildren Andrew Cech, Stephanie Cech, Connor Hart, Garrett Hart and Kellen Hart.

Helen Hudson (November 29, 2013)

Helen Hudson, 94, of Greenville passed away on November 29, 2013 at Brethren Retirement Community.

She was born June 12, 1919 at home in Dayton, Ohio to the late Howard and Margaret Hudson. Her father, Howard, was in a retail milk business in Dayton for 30 years (including the depression years), supporting a family of 9 including her dad’s mother and father. Helen attended Anderson College. She worked at Monsanto’s Mound Lab where she worked on atomic energy projects. She retired from Monsanto after 26 years of service. Helen was a member of Salem Church of God since 1925. God allowed Helen to have two families; her birth family, The Hudsons, and her adopted family, The Finkbines.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by a brother, Sid Howard Hudson; two sisters, Doris Hudson Liffick and Winona Hudson Taylor; a nephew, Don Liffick; three great nephews, Billy, Taylor and Brock Hudson; and a brother-in-law, Therman Frost.

She is temporarily leaving behind a sister, Hazel Frost; three in-laws, Pat Hudson, Bud Taylor, and Joe Liffick. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Randy and Rick Hudson, Mark Frost, Bob Taylor, Deb (Taylor) Hardman, Patty (Taylor) Turner, Mike Liffick, Mike and Jeff Liffick families.

In 1963, Helen met and adopted a young family; Bob, Sandy and Teresa Finkbine. Through the years two boys, Rob and Joe, were added to the family. She calls them her “adopted” family and the Finkbines and friends call her Aunt Helen. She loved to pray for each one of her two families and to be a helper, as she had a servant's heart. Aunt Helen is also survived by Bob & Sandy Finkbine; Michael, Teresa (Finkbine), Connor, and Brendan Woodin; Rob, Amy, Cody, Adrianna (Finkbine) Burnside, and Dakota Finkbine; Joe, April, Dylan, Justin, Carter, Noah, Alexis, Shelby Jo, and Jamie Grace Finkbine.

Helen has lived 40 years with her adopted family on a farm in Darke County. Helen departed this life to go home, and she wrote during her high school years: “I know not what God’s heaven may be, but this I know, He loveth me….and so I trust!!”

A Celebration of Life graveside service will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 North Dixie Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45414 with Rev. Joey Turner officiating. Asazalia M. Curry, 70 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday November 29, 2013 at 3:48 AM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. She was born August 15, 1943 in Winchester, Indiana the daughter of the late Clarence E. & Eva M. (Campbell) Curry. She worked for 11 years at McKesson Warehouse in Fairfield, Ohio and various other places in the area.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ronald Curry, & Clayton Curry.

She is survived by her children: Asazalia M. Forney & special friend Mike Bryant of Greenville, Norman R. & Marcia Arnold of Greenville, Nathaniel E. Henry W. Schafer, 86, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2013 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born March 26, 1927 in Darke County, son of the late Gerald S. and Mabel G. (Michael) Schafer.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, Henry had spent most of his life farming. After retirement he worked as a carry out for Eikenberry's IGA. He was a member of the Greenville Missionary Church, the Moose, Eagles, and American Legion all in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, P. Clarabelle (Bixler) Schafer, whom he married October 25, 1945; a daughter, Georgianna (Marvin) Crawford of Greenville; a son, Harold (Judy) Schafer of Greenville; grandchildren, Laura Bryson, Paullette Kennedy, Kathy Hatch, and Bradley Hatch; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Schafer of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Gary Oser officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Annabel Lee Netzley, age 88, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center - Rose Hill in Berryville, Virginia. She was born on December 28, 1924 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Earl & Ellanora (Manzey) Boolman.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sharon & Meril Turnbeaugh of Round Hill, Virginia; granddaughter Tonia Chagnon of Sterling, Virginia; great grandsons, Eric and Ben Chagnon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Norbert Netzley; sisters, Orva Boolman, Edna Morgan and Ema Ida Lawson; brother Harry Boolman; nephews, Donald Morgan and William Boolman.

Annabel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon. She loved sewing, crocheting and according to her great grandson she made the best blankets.

Cora Elizabeth Oswalt, 93, of New Weston, OH, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, OH.

She was born November 19, 1920, in Darke County, Ohio, daughter of the late Ora Earl and Cora (Locke) Pearson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph L. Oswalt on February 26, 2000; daughter, Karen Reed; twin grandsons, Jeremy and Jason Oswalt; brothers, Harry Pearson, Bob Pearson;and a sister, Frances Jones.

Cora was a homemaker that loved to play cards, gardening and reading. A devoted Cincinnati Reds fan she adored to be around her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Regina "Jean" (Jack) Sullenbarger of New Paris, James (Margaret) Oswalt of New Weston, Gary (Christina) Oswalt of Dayton, Walter (Cindy) Oswalt of Coldwater; son-in-law, Robert Reed of Bradford; 10 grandchildren, David (Melissa ) Sullenbarger, Diane (Steve) McNew, Sherry (Ed) Chenowith, Melanie (Mike) Payne, Todd (Beverly) Oswalt, Chris (Amy) Oswalt, Eric Bowersock, Wendy (Russell) Marcum, Kimberly (Eric) Stammen, Kyle (Rachel) Oswalt; 13 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

Webb J. Devor, 83, of Greenville, passed away late Sunday evening, November 24, 2013 at the Kettering Medical Center in Dayton.

He was born March 30, 1930, in Greenville, son of the late Webb E. and Justina F. (Iddings) Devor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (Tedder) Devor on April 19, 2009; brothers, Robert, Norman, James, and Jack Devor; and sisters, Martha Cole and Deloris Pepple.

A veteran of the US Army, Webb had served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Conrail Railroad. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Shriners, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Darke County Fish and Game Club and the Darke County Democratic Party.

He is survived by his daughter, Annette Blankenship; grandchildren, Bethaleen J. (Blankenship) Hawes, and Katrina N. Blankenship; great grandchildren, Alana, Lilliana, and Elena Jean Blankenship; son-in-law, Mickel Blankenship; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 2 PM. Wednesday, November 27, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Leonard James Brock Sr., age 76, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:00 PM at Wayne HealthCare ER. He was born on September 25, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Leroy “Jim” & Oretha (McMillian) Brock.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carolyn (Gibson) Brock of Greenville; children and their spouses, James L. Brock of Greenville; Julie (Sam) Sponaugle of Bradford, Joy (Mike) Tedore of Greenville, John Brock of Greenville, Lenny Brock of Greenville and Jill (Jimmy) McAlpin of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Redman and Diane Kiser; brother Leroy Brock; as well as 2 grandchildren.

Leonard was a member of the First Assembly of God. He was an avid coon hunter and extremely proud of his Indiana Heritage.

Scott Daniel Dircksen, age 20, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 due to an automobile accident. He was born on March 16, 1993 to Richard Joseph Dircksen and Connie May (Waters) Dircksen both of Versailles, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his siblings, Daniel (Angela) Cochrell of Troy, Richard Jerry (Tracy) Dircksen of Lakeview, Ohio, Angie Morris of Tennessee and Anita Swartz of Troy.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Henry & Marie Dircksen; maternal grandparents William Russell & Helen Waters as well as aunts and uncles.

Scott was a 2012 graduate of Troy High School and was pursuing to become a landscaper. He loved John Deere Tractors and fishing.

Terri L.(Wisener) Cummins, 57, of New Paris, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2013 at her residence. Terri was born on April 8, 1956 in Van Wert, Ohio to Patricia Ann (Bayles) Wisener and the late Lester Wisener, Jr.

Terri was a 1975 graduate of Van Wert High School. She was a member of the Twin Valley Baptist Church in West Alexandria. Terri enjoyed taking walks and crocheting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Terri is preceded in death by a brother, Lester Lewis Wisner.

He is survived by his wife Teresa (Grilliot) Oswalt of Greenville whom he married on September 9, 1977; children and their spouses, Michael (Karen) Oswalt of Centerville, Ohio, Steven (Amber) Oswalt of Fletcher, Ohio, Fred (Suzanne) Oswalt of Delaware, Ohio, Joe (Bethany) Oswalt of Neosho, Missouri, John (Alvita) Oswalt of Hampshire, Tennessee, Buffy (Stephen) Lavy of Arcanum, Ohio, and Zachary (Jeff) Oswalt of Fircrest, Washington; 23 grandchildren; brother Merlin Oswalt of Heber Springs, Arkansas; sister and brother in law, Janice (Ned) Kress of Huber Heights, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Donovan was a welder and retired from AGCO New Idea as a general foreman. He also worked at Scioto Services in Troy and was the owner and operator of Brown Sweet Shop in Versailles. For over 20 years Donovan was a Christian educator for the Tabernacle Christian School and Emmaus Learning Center. He was a member of the Emmaus New Testament Church and was a board member for the Darke County Pregnancy Help Center.

Robert G. Gump, 76, of Greenville, passed away early Friday morning, November 15, 2013, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born December 5, 1936 in Versailles, son of the late Charles and Ermal (Arnett) Gump.

Bob was a veteran of the US Navy, and retired from Carl Subler Trucking where he was a dispatcher and terminal manager . He was a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Lila Lee and brother Charles Gump, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Keaser) Gump, whom he married September 5, 1958; sons, Randy (Mary Ann) Gump of Versailles and Rick (Lynne) Gump of Greenville; a daughter, Kim Gump of Greenville; sister, Joan Watren of Florida, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Benjamin "Ben" W. Wages (November 13, 2013)

Benjamin "Ben" W. Wages, 49, passed away from complications resulting from an extended illness on November 13, 2013 at Grandview Hospital in Dayton. Ben was born on April 18, 1964 in Greenville, Ohio to Coleman and Yvonne (Timmons) Wages.

Ben was a software engineer for WorkflowOne. He had a Bachelors of Computer Science Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He was a 1982 graduate of Tri Village Schools. Ben enjoyed watching The Ohio State University Buckeyes football, Cincinnati Bengals football and Cincinnati Reds baseball with his dad as well as other sports teams. Ben was gifted with a beautiful tenor singing voice and was a talented drummer.

Ben is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Treva Timmons and Waldon and Viney Wages.

In addition to his parents, Ben is survived by his wife, Lisa (Allen) Wages whom he married on July 15, 2006; step daughter, Christina Bayley; a brother, Doug and wife Sue Wages; a sister, Angela and husband George Hunt as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren, 373 Love Road, New Paris, Ohio at 2:00 PM. Family and Friends may visit on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 2-5 PM also at the church. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Ben.

Kathleen L. Aukerman (November 13, 2013)

Kathleen L. Aukerman age 90, resident of Pitsburg, Ohio died at 4:36 A.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Sterling House of Greenville.

Kathleen was born March 1, 1923, in Bradford, to the late Cleo Donald & Helen (Sease) Selby. She was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1941.
Kathleen married Harold J. Aukerman, June 1, 1941, they farmed side by side for many years. Harold preceded her in death in 2004.

Kathleen was a talented seamstress, an avid gardener, a superb baker of all things wonderful, and a true naturalist at heart. She was a quiet woman who was most at ease with her immediate family.

She was a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell Selby; a twin sister, Karolyn Keller; a granddaughter, Robin Blumenstock; a grandson, Todd Blumenstock; and sons-in-law, George McLain and Kenneth Shanks. She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Shanks of Pitsburg, Cynthia and her husband, Bill Locke of Covington and Claudia McLain of Indianapolis; three sisters, Idonna Fashner of Bradford, Elaine and her husband, George Hackett of Celina and Judith and her husband, Charles Bunnell of Florida; brother, Donald Selby of Florida; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Ivan) Aukerman of Greenville and Phyllis (Melvin) Aukerman of Greenville.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomers Cemetery in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Alva D. Aukerman (November 11, 2013)

Alva D. Aukerman age 92, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:40 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Alva was born March 31, 1921 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Arthur & Susie (Landis) Aukerman.

Alva is survived by his wife, Pauline (Landis) Aukerman whom he married April 4, 1942; son & daughter-in-law, David & Pam Aukerman of Greenville, Ohio; daughter & son-in-law, Treva & Alan Dohner of Troy, Ohio; grandchildren, Sherri & Mike Painter of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Alicia & Jeff Lehman of Hilliard, Ohio, Eric & Jodi Aukerman of Arcanum, Ohio and Dorinda Dohner of Bloomington, Indiana; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, Alva is also preceded in death by a sister, Olive Fourman; brother, Ralph Aukerman; and a foster brother, Clifford Westfall.

Alva retired in 1986 from Hobart Brothers in Troy, Ohio. Alva also farmed in Franklin Township, Darke County where he raised potatoes for 25 years. Alva was the longest attending member of Painter Creek Church of the Brethren. He served the church as deacon; Sunday school teacher; board chairman; financial director and held many other offices. Alva was a former ranger at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum. Alva played the saxophone in the Darke County Municipal Band.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomers Cemetery in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Painter Creek Church of the Brethren or the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund. Louanna J. Fenstermaker (November 11, 2013)

Louanna J. Fenstermaker age 80, of Bradford, went to be with the Lord at 11:30 P.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Louanna was born May 4, 1933 in Union City, Ohio to the late Russell & Edith (Byram) Ulsh.

Louanna is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Claude & Marilyn Fenstermaker of Bradford, Craig & Tamai Fenstermaker of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Kent & Cindy Fenstermaker of Bradford and Kyle & Jody Fenstermaker of Pembroke, Kentucky; grandchildren, Charity & Rob Hutt, Michael & Katie Fenstermaker, Addie & Danny Eversmyer, Andrew & Kara Fenstermaker, Bryan & JoAnna Fenstermaker, Jennifer & Chris Price, Jonathan Fenstermaker & fiancée, Ashley Richards, Joshua Fenstermaker and Karli Fenstermaker; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Louanna is also preceded in death by her husband, Doyle E. Fenstermaker on August 26, 1984 whom she married November 3, 1951; brothers, Robert and Tom Ulsh; and sisters, Mary Byers and Norma Anthony.

Louanna was a 1951 graduate of Arcanum High School. Louanna was a homemaker. She was a member of Greenville Baptist Temple. Louanna enjoyed spending her life on the farm and being a farm wife. She enjoyed baking pies and cookies. Louanna loved traveling with her family and doing family activities. She touched a lot of peoples lives that she never met. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the people that knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Daniel Berdine officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Victor John Lavy (November 10, 2013)

Victor John Lavy, 93, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Victor was born on September 21, 1920 in Darke County to the late Joseph and Flossie (Stoner) Lavy.

Victor retired in 1986 from Hobart Brothers in Troy from the Purchasing Department. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting and traveling. Victor also enjoyed his cars. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Victor is preceded in death by a sister, Velma Lavy; and a daughter, Marilyn Lavy Sturtevant.

Victor is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris (Welbaum) Lavy of Greenville; three sons, Merrill and Connie Lavy of Arcanum, Don and Janet Lavy of Pleasant Hill and Lowell and Rena Lavy of Versailles; a daughter, Geneva and Roy Yoder of Bradford; a son-in-law, Steve and Linda Sturtevant of Beaver City, Nebraska; grandchildren, Duane Lavy, Stephen Yoder, Wayne Lavy, Kimberly Marshall, Paul Lavy, Kevin Lavy, Jonathan Yoder, Jason Sturtevant, Stephen Lavy, Stephanie Kennedy, Kenny Lavy, Beth Dickinson, Amy Goins, Regina Baker, Danette Haddix, Brent Lavy, Susanna Sturtevant and Allyson Brinkman; 33 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and a brother, Glen and Lola Lavy of Litchfield, Ohio.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 10 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel, 750 Chestnut Drive in Greenville with the Rev. Bob Bitner being asked to officiate. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 4-8 PM also at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel. Burial will follow in Newcomer Cemetery. The family request memorial contributions be given to the Brethren Retirement Community Residence Aid Fund with donations being accepted at the visitation and funeral.

Ottis L. Gilmore (November 11, 2013)

Ottis L. Gilmore age 88 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 2:40 A.M. Monday November 11, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Ottis was born March 3, 1925 in Versailles, Ohio and the son of the late Andrew “Doc” and Mary M. (Schlechty) Gilmore.

Ottis had farmed his entire life and was a Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army from August 1943 until November of 1945. Ottis was a member of the Greenville American Legion, Greenville V.F.W., Darke County Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans where he was Past Commander and held the position as Adjutant for 60 years, Purple Heart Chapter #31 of Dayton, Ohio and the Darke County Farm Bureau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Velma L. (Lewis) Gilmore October 6, 2013. They were married October 14, 1956. Also his granddaughter Jessica Anne Gilmore in 1985.

Ottis is survived by his son Mark Gilmore of Versailles; grandchildren Jill Mann, Gregory Gilmore and Abby Gilmore, great granddaughter Reagan Lilly Mann and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday November 14, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery Darke County, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

The Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Honors on Thursday morning in the Funeral Home.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to Darke County Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans, Greenville American Legion or the Greenville V.F.W.
