Ned Arthur Brown (October 27, 2013)

Ned Arthur Brown age 78 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:40 P.M. Sunday October 27, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home Greenville, Ohio. Ned was born July 13, 1935 in Verona, Preble County, Ohio and the son of the late Alva and Vera (Heckman) Brown.

Ned is survived by his wife Marian (Crawford) Brown of Greenville; son Craig Brown and daughter in law Cyndy (Albright) Brown of Ann Arbor, MI.; his daughter Faith (Brown) Webster and son in law Tom Webster of Shawano, WI.; four grandchildren Christopher Brown (Emma Houle), Corey (Shannon) Brown, Bethany Webster (Gero Parmentier) and Evan Webster (Lyndsey Waldburger); siblings Joetta (Brown) Unger, Dean Brown and Donzetta Heitfield.

In addition to his patents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Brown

Ned was a lifelong member of the Darke County community. He grew up in Arcanum, Ohio and worked in Greenville, Ohio for 17 ½ years for the Daily Advocate and various financial institutions including 17 ½ years of employment with Greenville National Bank. He believed in service to the community and was a part of the initial development of the Darke County YMCA expansion and participated in their work for many years. He was also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, serving on the board and as Treasurer. A member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton and an active member for over 50 years, first in the Church of the Brethren and now the First United Methodist Church of Greenville.

Ned loved traveling, taking scenic pictures, reading history about the West and riding his horse Bullwinkle at Rawah Ranch in Colorado to high places especially Middle Mountain.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday November 10, 2013 in the First United Methodist Church 202 West Fourth Street Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Angela Meeks officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday November 10, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. until time of the services in the Church.

In lieu of flowers the family request that Memorial Contributions be given to the Darke County State of the Heart Hospice or your local Habitat for Humanity.

Roy B. Fitzwater (October 29, 2013)

Roy B. Fitzwater, age 92, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 7:20 AM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on October 15, 1921 in West Virginia to the late Matthew John Tilden & Mary J. (Runner) Fitzwater.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Seman) Lockhart-Fitzwater of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on May 20, 1998; sister, Mildred Frazee of Fairborn, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was a member of the EUM church in Greenville and was a truck driver for 60 years where he worked at Subler Trucking in Versailles and Case Carriage in Celina.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Fitzwater; siblings, Ira Fitzwater, Willie Fitzwater, Opal Shook, Howard Fitzwater, Eva Elsass, Gaye Moore, Lessie Barton, Bessie Shahan; and twin brother Troy Fitzwater.

There will be a service held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Violet R. “Vy” Copp (October 28, 2013)

Violet R. “Vy” Copp age 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:41 A.M. on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Violet was born January 27, 1929 in Randolph County, Indiana to the late H. Alva & Retha M. (Flory) Stooksberry.

Violet is survived by her daughters & son-in-law, Angela Skiles & fiancé, Pete Downing of Greenville and Tracey & Mark Burk of Greenville; son & daughter-in-law, Mark & Candice Copp of Chesterton, Indiana; grandchildren, Leslie (TJ) Niedzielski, Jennifer (Mike) Manix, Derek Copp, Dustin Copp, Adam Burk, Brooke Copp, Aaron Burk and Jacob Burk; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Violet is also preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Copp; and sisters, Verla Bothast and Virginia Vogel.

Violet retired from Fram Corporation and Wal-Mart in Greenville. Violet was also a former bartender. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Greenville and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2177 Ladies Auxiliary in Greenville.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Emil Bartos (October 25, 2013)

Emil Bartos, 95, of Eldorado died on October 25, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on June 6, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio to Andrew and Pauline (Kissa) Bartos .

Emil was a 1936 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton. He worked at Dayton Tire and Rubber. Emil was a community artist and painted for several organizations throughout the country. After Emil's heart surgery at the age of 75 he became interested again in his pastel fine art through art classes at the Preble County Art Center in Eaton, Ohio. He created many house portraits in the community and across the United States along with personal portraits and landscapes. His life was focused on his work in the churches he attended as a Bible study teacher and serving on council. Emil taught the Bethel Bible Study at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg for 25 years. He was commissioned to paint the 20th lesson on Revelation for the Bethel Series in Madison, Wisconsin. These works are at the Trinity Church in Lewisburg.

In addition to his parents, Emil was preceded in death by his first wife, Etta Faye (Fox) of 35 years; brothers, Joseph Bartos, Andrew Bartos, Volto Bartos as well as four infant brothers; sisters, Anna Arnold, Pauline Williams, and Helen Kovackic and a daughter, Pina Pauline Bartos.

Emil is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ruby (Lachey-Muth) Bartos; son, Rev. Emil Bartos of Branson, Missouri; daughter and son-in-laws Martha and George Skidmore of New Madison and Rebecca and William Hodgin of Lewisburg; step children, Anna Muth-Post and husband David Lewis of Greenville, Heidi Muth-Post and husband Daniel Linebaugh of Union City and Andrew and Theresa (Cron) Muth of Hebron, Kentucky; grandchildren, Bradley and Heather Skidmore of Parma, Ohio, Sgt. Jane Dynes (October 26, 2013)

Jane Dynes, 81, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Unit in Greenville.

She was born July 31, 1932 in Ansonia, Ohio, a daughter of the late Van and Wanda (Richards) Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Dynes, whom she married on December 13, 1947; a daughter, Belinda Dynes; and a grandson, Benjamin Hollinger.

Jane worked at Master Industries in Ansonia for over 30 years as a machine operator and was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Greenville. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed sitting on her porch drinking coffee with her neighbors. Jane never passed up an opportunity to stop at any and all garage sales.

She is survived by her children, Bobby (Donna) Dynes of Greenville, Ohio, Vicky (Bob) Fields of Mendon, Ohio, Rick (Cheryl) Dynes of Ansonia, Ohio, Rocksand (Joby) Hollinger and Stoney Dynes, both of Greenville, Ohio; grandchildren, Laura Schaefer of Greenville, Ohio, Lysa (John) Morris of Hilliard, Ohio, Ray (Tina) Fields of Rockford, Ohio, Aaron (Amy) Dynes of Waynesville, Ohio, Allison (Kurt) Medrano of Ansonia, Ohio, Pennie (Troy) Gasper of Rossburg, Ohio and Sara Dynes of Greenville; brother Gary Young of Wayne Lakes, Ohio and sister-in-law Delores Dynes of Greenville. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph L. Schmitmeyer age 58 of St. Rt. 242 Versailles died at 3:45 PM on Friday October 25, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 24, 1955 in Coldwater Ohio to the Late Ernest & Alma (Dirksen) Schmitmeyer. His mother survives in Cranberry Prairie, Ohio. He married Linda Siefring on February 17, 1979 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Burkettsville, Ohio. She survives in Versailles.

Betty Lou Young age 73, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Betty Lou was born November 3, 1939 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Lewis & Dorothy (Anthony) Young.

Betty Lou is survived by a sister, Lois House of Greenville, Ohio; niece, Angela & Kevin Beumer of Greenville, Ohio; nephew, Ronnie & Karla House of Albany, Indiana; great niece, Tiffany Beumer of Greenville, Ohio and fiancé, Cody Kester; and a special friend, Arlene Shepherd of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Betty Lou is also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Young; aunt, Bernice Young; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Betty Lou used the Greenville Transit System for her many travels, she grew fond and thought highly of the drivers and was rewarded with Rider of the Month. Betty Lou thought highly of her Hospice Caregivers; especially Megan and Candy.

Denis L. “Denny” Petitjean (October 23, 2013)

Denis L. “Denny” Petitjean age 70, of Yuma, Arizona and formerly of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 10:39 P.M. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at his residence. Denny was born April 11, 1943 in Russia, Ohio to the late Alpha & Ruth (George) Petitjean.

Denny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn (Berger) Petitjean whom he married February 1, 1969; daughter & son-in-law, Chanda & James Brown of Versailles, Ohio; son, Shane Petitjean of Versailles, Ohio; grandchildren, Sierra Brown and Jamee Brown; great-grandchild, Cameron Brading; brothers & sister-in-law, Bob Petitjean of Middletown, Ohio, Carl & Joyce Petitjean of Prospect, Kentucky and Bill Petitjean of Marengo, Ohio; sister, Doris Dorner of Wapakoneta, Ohio; brother-in-law, Leon Freeman of Maumee, Ohio; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Joan & Carl Langenkamp of Yorkshire, Ohio, Shirley & Leroy Cordonnier of Versailles, Ohio and Debbie Berger of Beavercreek, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denny served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Denny retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18 of Dayton, Ohio where he was a heavy equipment operator. Denny was a member of the Elks Lodge in Yuma, Arizona, American Legion in New Bremen, Ohio, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Covington, Ohio, and the Painter Creek Motorcycle Club in Painter Creek, Ohio. Denny was a former member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles, Ohio with Military graveside services conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, Ohio. Edward Lee Miltenberger age 74, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:39 A.M. on Monday, October 21, 2013 at his residence. Edward was born September 26, 1939 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Dwight & Mary (Paff) Miltenberger.

Edward is survived by his wife, Cathy (Baker) Miltenberger whom he married August 20, 1960; son & daughter-in-law, Jeff & Nancy Miltenberger of Greenville; daughters & sons-in-law, Sherri & Mike Jones of Greenville and Wenndi & Darrel Bailey of Big Flats, New York; grandchildren, Jason (Stephanie) Jones, Daniel (Kristin) Jones, Jeremy (Megan) Bailey, Randy (Nikki) Bailey, Steven (Chelsea) Jones, Robbie Jones, Melanie Stall, Samuel Jones, Matthew Stall, Caitlynn Jones, Ceejay Miltenberger, Mikayla Bailey and Lynndee Miltenberger; 12 great-grandchildren, brother, Deo Miltenberger of Arcanum; sister & brother-in-law, Eileen & Bill Beaver of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leroy E. Murphy Jr. (October 20, 2013)

Leroy E. Murphy Jr., 56 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday October 20, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born December 29, 1956 in Greenville, Ohio the son of Leroy Murphy of Greenville and the late Marilyn (Timmons) Murphy.

Leroy was the Safety Director for Whirlpool Corp in Greenville; Firefighter for Englewood Fire Department and Gettysburg Fire Department; Clark State Community College Fire Instructor; HAZMAT Team; Darke County LEPC.

He was a member of the Eagles; Darke County Coin Club; Treaty City Amateur Radio; Ohio Society of Fire Service Instructors; past member of the Fire Chiefs Association.

He is preceded in death by his mother; grandson: Justice Meade: niece: Kerri Murphy.

He is survived by his father: Leroy Murphy of Greenville; his wife: Betty (Martin) Murphy of Greenville; son: Wyatt Murphy of Greenville; daughter & son in law: Amanda & Clayton Hans of Greenville; step daughters & sons in law: Betty & Brad Meade of Greenville, Nicole & Ronald Shellabarger of Greenville; step son & daughter in law: Michael & Laci Reynolds of Summerville, S.C.; 12 grandchilden; brother & sister in law: Terry & Kim Murphy of Versailles; sister: Deborah Bailey of Greenville; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and all of his brother firefighters.

Apryl Fawn Hartman (October 17, 2013)

Apryl Fawn Hartman, 31, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on October 17, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Apryl was born on October 20, 1981 in Clearfield, Utah to Michael and Lisa Hartman of New Madison.

Apryl just loved people being around her. It always made her day.

Karl J. Brown (October 18, 2013)

Karl J. Brown, 75, of West Manchester, passed away Friday morning, October 18, 2013 in Greenville.

He was born July 19, 1938 in Lynn, IN, son of the late Melvin W. and Catherine (Hutchinson) Brown.

Karl was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a local certified ASA Mechanic until his retirement in 1994. Him and his wife owned and operated Wildcat Woods for 24 years. He is a member of the Triumphant Christian Center in Greenville, the Masonic Lodge and the Antioch Shrine.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte (Fudge) Brown, whom he married August 26, 1961; children, Brenda, Kurt, and Kim; 8 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Private services will be held at a later time with Pastor Sam Shilot officiating. Burial will take place in the Twin Creek Cemetery near West Manchester.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Hospice of the donor’s choice.

C. Eugenia Brown (October 18, 2013)

C. Eugenia Brown, 99 of Carmel, Indiana and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday October 18, 2013 at 8:06 PM at Sunrise on Old Meridian, Carmel, Indiana. She was born April 24, 1914 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Harry G. & Esta (Toohey) Lawrence. She was the Clerk-Treasurer for Greenville City School District retiring in 1976. For the last nine years she has resided in Carmel, IN, after residing 90 years in Darke County.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church; & the Order of Eastern Star.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Lloyd Brown on July 28, 2005 whom she married September 6, 1936; brother: Harold Lawrence; sisters in law: Betty Lawrence, Thelma Griffith; brothers in law: Paul Brown, Edgar Brown & Robert Griffith.

She is survived by her daughter & son in law: Judy A. & Rodney A. Rhoades of Carmel, Indiana; granddaughters: Annelisa Bellack of Acworth, Georgia, & Kirsten Newnum of Zionsville, Indiana; 9 great grandchildren; & numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday October 22, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Christine Z. Charles, 87 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday October 16, 2013 at 4:30 AM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born May 21, 1926 in Salt Lick, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Raymond & Nora (Gregory) Carter.

She retired in 1982 after 30 years of service at Firestone in Noblesville, Indiana. She was a faithful member of Triumphant Christian Center in Greenville, Ohio.

She is survived by her “first born” son William O. (Becky) Charles; a daughter Rita Charles; a brother Bill (Creola) Carter; a sister Harriet (Don) Thompson; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; & numerous nieces & nephews. Also a dear sister in the Lord, Carolyn East.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Larry Gene Charles and 3 sisters, Emogene Lewis, Betty Catron, & Pearl Benbow.

A celebration of Christine’s’ life will be held at Triumphant Christian Center at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Olive M. Haynes, 96, of Union City, Ohio, formally of Lightsville, Ohio, passed away September 29, 2013 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born on January 10, 1917 in Lightsville, Ohio, daughter of the late William A. and Nellie G. (Brewer) Rhodeheffer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Adam Rufus Haynes; a brother, Wilber “Bud” Rodeheffer; and a sister, Betty N. Koontz.

Olive was a homemaker, a past member of the Eastern Stars in Ansonia, and Progressive Homemakers Club. She attended Community United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Bill R. (Mary Ellen) Haynes of Lebanon, Ohio: grandchildren, Rachel L. (Mike) Kafsky of Charlotte, NC and Josh A. (Sara) Haynes of Eaton, Ohio; great grandchildren, Gibson and Landis Kafsky, Maddie, Rylie and Emily Haynes; brothers, Harold R. “Jake” and Don M. “Ike” Rodeheffer of Lightsville, Ohio.

Eddie “Gene” Murphy age 74, of Greenville, Ohio went to be with the Lord at 8:50 P.M. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at his residence. Gene was born February 2, 1939 in Elroy, Ohio to the late James Harry & Mary Elsie (Cline) Murphy.

Gene is survived by his wife, Wilma Faye (Moore) Murphy whom he married December 14, 1963; sons & daughters-in-law, Mark & Melinda (Jean) Murphy of New Paris, Ohio, Todd & Beth (Middleton) Murphy of Union City, Ohio and Chris & Angela (Molitor) Murphy of Fayetteville, Ohio; grandchildren, Alexander, Madelynn, Olivia, Clayton, Wesley, Samantha, Cecilia, Christopher, Anne Marie and Christina Murphy; brothers & sisters-in-law, Gary & Sarah (Hardwick) Murphy of Union City, Ohio and Don & Benita (Warwick) Murphy of Decatur, Indiana; sister & brother-in-law, Kathleen (Murphy) & Dan Tipple of Springfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Anita Murphy of Traverse City, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene is also preceded in death by a brother, James Galen Murphy.

Gene was a farmer. He enjoyed his grandchildren, sporting events and 4-H livestock shows. Gene’s number 1 pride was having the best garden. In 2002, Gene was named Best Darke County Gardener.

Isabelle Ruth Hollinger (October 14, 2013)

Isabelle Ruth Hollinger, 95, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Brethren Retirement Community. Isabelle was born on, May 31, 1918 to the late George and Linnie (Bennett) Chamberlain.

Isabelle was a homemaker during her life. She was a 1936 graduate of New Madison School, a member of the Harmony Makers, an advisor in 4-H and a talented seamstress making clothes for her children. She also helped with the family business, Hollinger Sand and Gravel. Isabelle was a member of Beech Grove Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her parents, Isabelle is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hollinger, whom she was married to for 65 years; a granddaughter, Deborah Lynn Hollinger; and two brothers, Donald and Roland Chamberlain.

Isabelle is survived by a son, Tom and wife Sharon Hollinger; a daughter, Carol Sue and husband Ronald Elkins; four grandchildren, Sandra Shaffer, Kendall and wife Kari Elkins, Stephanie and husband Jeff Allread, and Doug and wife Amy Hollinger; nine great grandchildren, Kayla and Braden Shaffer, Caleb, Leah, and Kenton Allread, Evan and Owen Elkins, and Riley and Kara Hollinger; a sister in law, Constance Chamberlain and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison with Rev. Gary Cloyd officiating. Betty A. Wooley age 88, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 1:15 P.M. on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Fair Haven Shelby County Home in Sidney, Ohio. Betty was born January 8, 1925 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Charles E. & Pearl (Davidson) Young.

Betty is survived by her nephews, John & Rose Dickman of Sidney, Ohio, Mark Barga of Sidney, Ohio, Robert & Ronda Barga of Lebanon, Tennessee and Terry Barga of Bellevue, Kentucky; and nieces, Kathleen (Young) Williams of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Linda (Barga) & Richard Sharp of Anna, Ohio and Diane (Barga) & Rodney New of Sidney, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Betty is also preceded in death by her husband, George V. Wooley on August 3, 1997 whom she married June 27, 1942; brothers, Robert, William and Ralph Young; and sisters, Laura Dickman and Annabelle Barga.

Betty was a cashier at Mintons Market in Sidney for 16 ½ years and Pangles Market in Sidney for 23 years.

Lois E. Riggs, age 91, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 5:18 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 18, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late H.B. & Agnes (Michael) Riggs.

She is survived by her sister Alice Hollenback of Greenville as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Darner, Ruth Miller, Robert Riggs, Harold Riggs and Gerald Riggs.

Lois retired from Hobart Manufacturing in Greenville. She attended St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville and was a member of the Eagles. She loved sewing and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church, 7418 St. Rt. 121 North, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. C.W. Davis, age 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 1:56 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. He was born on November 9, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Herman & Forest (Shields) Davis.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis J. (Loy) Davis of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on December 24, 1941; son and daughter in law Jim & JoAnn Davis of Greenville; grandchildren, Jeff (Amy) Davis, Kimberly Davis and Jessica (Jon) Davis Mardin; great grandchildren, Alex Davis, Zac Davis, Connor Davis, Foster Cole and Benjamin Mardin; sister and brother in law, Marilyn & Ernest Kuhn of Arcanum, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

C.W. was in the construction business for over 45 years and was the owner of C.W. Davis Construction as well as owned a gun shop. He was an avid collector of antiques and Indian Artifacts. He was a member of the United States Army serving in WWII and Friends of the Darke County Parks.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Marvin C. “Tater” Delk, age 78 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 6:12 P.M. Wednesday October 9, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. He was born October 28, 1934 in Darke County, Ohio and the son of the late Daniel and Olive (Minnich) Delk.

Marvin retired in 1991 from American Airlines where he worked as a Fleet Service Clerk.

He loved camping, going to auctions and farming.

He is survived by his wife Norma (Rich) Delk of Arcanum. They were married June 30, 1956. Also sons Bruce (Lori) Delk and Brad (Cynthia) Delk all of Arcanum; daughter Becky (Mike) Boone of Arcanum; grandchildren Eric (Greta) Bowman, Ericka Bowman, Heather (Steven) Chavez, Holly Delk and Fiancé James Doty, Mitchell Delk, Spencer Delk, Micah Delk, Justin Boone and Jason (Emily) Boone; great grandchildren Marlee Chavez, Abbigale Bowman, Zoe and Carter Boone; brothers Gary (Mary) Delk of La Habra, CA, Kermit (Bernie) Delk of Springfield, OH and David (Beverly) Delk of Arcanum; brother-in-law Donald (Gloria) Rich of Arcanum; also numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Genevieve Marker, age 89, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:15 AM at her residence. She was born on November 21, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Lincoln Lyons and Mary Ann (Silverthorn) Lyons Zollner.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Roger & Janice Marker of Centerville, Ohio, and Wayne L. Marker Jr.; daughters and son in law, Brenda Denlinger of Greenville and Linda & Tim Hunt of Greenville; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and a member and baptized at the Greenville Church of the Brethren; lifetime Auxiliary Member of the D.A.V., American Legion and VFW all of Greenville.

Gary E. Long (October 10, 2013)

Gary E. Long age 66, of Bradford, Ohio passed away at 6:52 A.M. on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Versailles Health Care Center. Gary was born March 19, 1947 to the late Mervyn & Crystal (Cassel) Long.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Versailles High School and a 1969 graduate from Manchester College. Gary was a sanitarian with the Ohio Department of Health where he met his wife of 33 years, Claire (Shaw). In 1977 he left the Health Department to begin farming full time. Gary was a lifelong member of Oakland Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon and board member.

In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his step-mother, Mildred (Miller) Long; brother, Ronald Long; and sister, Marilyn Martin.

Gary is survived by Claire; his son, Andrew (Lora) Long of Arcanum; daughter, Kelly Long of Piqua; grandson, Reed Long; granddaughters, Jocelyn and Anne-Marie Long; brother-in-law, Larry Martin of Versailles; and nieces, Carolyn Martin of Minnesota and Diane Lyons of Columbus.

Ruth Marjorie (Rhoades) Comer, 92, of Greenville, passed away on October 9, 2013 at the Brethren's Retirement Community. Ruth was born June 21, 1921 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Russell and Edith(Kesler)Rhoades.

Ruth attended Triumphant Christian Center Church of God. She loved to travel to and visit Frostproof, Florida. Ruth also loved anything golf. She enjoyed carving things out of wood, including sharks and frogs.

Ruth is survived by her son and daughter in law, Robert Lester and his wife Darlene Comer of New Madison; two grandsons, Rob and his wife Sandy of Fountain City, Indiana and Rikki Comer of Fountain City, Indiana; two sisters and brothers in law, Dorothy and her husband Marlin Young of New Madison and Naomi and her husband Robert Rank of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lester Comer in 1971 and a sister Marie.

Patsy Ann (Ditmer) Bunsold, 65, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2013 at the Village Greene in Greenville, Ohio. Patsy was born on June 23, 1948 to the late Donald and Geneva (Litten) Ditmer.

Patsy enjoyed Color art, doing crafts and painting. She was a 1968 graduate of Arcanum schools.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Ditmer; brothers Ron and Rosemary Ditmer of Greenville and Don and Marsha Ditmer of Arcanum; and a sister Connie Elliot of Greenville.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Doug & Jennifer Blocher of Greenville; daughter and son in law, Angela & Robert Hart of Greenville; grandchildren, Jacob Blocher, Jalynn Blocher, Levi Wicker, Dylan Wicker, Jordan Wicker, Brandon Gigandet, Krisney Gwin and Katie Hart; great grandchildren, Zane Wicker, Riley Wicker, Kasen Wicker and Hunter Gigandet; friend Carolyn Blocher of Greenville; brother and sister in law Michael & Brenda Blocher of Hollansburg; niece and nephews, Scott Blocher, Ryan Blocher and Amy Posey.

Dave retired from Miami Valley International Trucks and was one of the founders of the Darke County Tractor Puller Association and a member of the Plowmen’s Association.

Lester E. “Gene” Enochs, age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:42 P.M. Wednesday October 9, 2013 in Greenville. He was born October 4, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Corby and Irene (Reeser) Enochs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Helen (Baker) Enochs on August 14, 2013, infant sons Marvin Lee and Melvin Eugene Enochs, infant granddaughter Machelle Lawrence, son-in-law Earl Kent Lawrence, sisters Helen Godown and Patty Nease; brothers: Robert and Lloyd Enochs.

Gene was a salesman for seventeen years at Holthouse Furniture leaving there to start his own Carpet Business in Greenville. He loved his Harley Motorcycles, authentic models of older cars, going fishing, talking to people and telling stories of different happenings during his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II, serving under General Patton in France, Germany and Austria.

Gene is survived by his daughters Delores Lawrence of Greenville and Lois Enochs of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren Donna (Mike) Hohler of Greenville, Steven (Kim) Lawrence of New Madison, Lisa Matyasz of Banks, OR, great grandchildren PVT. Alex (Erika) Hohler of Ft. Campbell, KY, Andrew Hohler of Greenville, Adam Hohler of Greenville, Taylor Matyasz of Banks, OR, great great granddaughter Chloe Hohler, step great great grandchildren Landon and Caitlin and one sister Betty Burk.

Nancy retired from Fram Corporation of Greenville where she was a press operator. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of Greenville.

Greg L. “Wilbur” Trent, age 51 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:43 P.M. Tuesday October 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1962 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of Larry Trent of Greenville and the late Barbara (Paulus) Trent.

Greg was the manager of the Ohio Street location for Trent Auto Parts.

He was a member of the Greenville Moose Lodge, the Darke County Harness Racing Association, founder of Wilbur’s nascar.com, and enjoyed bowling and NASCAR racing.

In addition to his mother, Greg was preceded in death by his step mother Sandra Joette (Asterman) Trent in 1997.

Survivors, in addition to his father, brothers Brian (Lynnette) Trent and Mark Trent all of Greenville; sister Julie (Jeremy) Fisher of Largo, Florida; girlfriend Terri Nixon of Greenville; aunts and uncle Phyllis and Ken Horner of Greenville, Karen Trent of Bowling Green, Ohio and Deb Deits of Indianapolis, Ind. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday October 12, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Brandon D. Hampton, age 26, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 7:45 PM at his residence. He was born on February 21, 1987 in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the son of Elsie & Ray Bush of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his daughters Harper Elina Hampton and Jailin Gehret both of Greenville; siblings Dustan & Mara Hampton of Greenville, Dillon Hampton and April Hampton both of Indiana, Michael Miller, Frani Buckley, Magen (Kenny) Bush, Kenny (Maddie) Bush, Dylan (Elizabeth) Bush and Karamie Bush all from Greenville; maternal grandmother Frances Shirley of Kentucky; step mother Sheila Hampton of Indiana; Aunts and uncles William King of Troy, Ohio, Loretta & Billy Robards of Kentucky and Carlisa & Eddie Johnson of Kentucky; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Brandon worked at McMiller’s Carryout in Greenville and was friends with everyone.

There will be a service held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. There will be no burial following the service. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Kenneth Green (October 7, 2013)

Kenneth Green, age 88 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Union City, Ohio passed away at 2:45 P.M. Monday October 7, 2013 in the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Kenneth was born April 29, 1925 in Union City, Ohio and the son of the late George and Lillie (Maloy) Green.

He was a self-employed business man having built and managed Greenwood Mobile Home Park of Union City, Indiana and was a Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army.

Kenneth attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gary Allen Green May 23, 2011. Also brothers Ralph, Perry, Harold, Tom, Dan and Gerald Green and a sister Edna Sharp.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Beatrice (Teeter) Green of Greenville. They were married July 28, 1948. Also son and daughters in law Kenneth “Pete” and Leanna Green Jr., of Troy, Ohio and Amy (Prewitt) Green of Union City, Ohio. Grandchildren Rachel (Bruce) Krauth, Jessica Green, Josh Green, Melanie (Nathan) Hawkey, Matthew (Lindsey) Green, Kyle Green, Abby Green and Sara Thomas. Brothers George Green and James Green both of Union City, Indiana. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband: Felix J. “Junior” Simmons of Versailles whom she married September 21, 1946; brother in law & sister in law: Larry D. & Carol Simmons of Bradford; nieces & nephews: Michelle (Sam) Holsapple of Versailles, Larry E. Velma L. Gilmore, age 90 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 12:35 P.M. Sunday October 6, 2013 in the Versailles Health Care Center. Velma was born June 12, 1923 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and the daughter of the late Adrian D. and Florence (Sullenbarger) Lewis.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Darke County Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary where she held the position of Adjutant for 17 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Jessica Anne Gilmore in 1985; brother John Lewis and sisters Edith Hines and Mary Huffman.

Velma is survived by her husband Ottis L. Gilmore of Versailles. They were married October 14, 1956. Also her son Mark Gilmore of Versailles; grandchildren Jill Mann, Gregory Gilmore and Abby Gilmore; sister Erma Stump of Union City, Ohio; brother Jim Lewis of Union City, Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday October 10, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Barbara (Wilt) Elsass, 77 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday October 5, 2013 at 7:52 AM in the Emergency Room at Wayne Healthcare. She was born August 8, 1936 in Shelby County, Ohio the daughter of the late Albert Philip & Fredonia R. (Wessel) Wilt.

She was an educator retiring after 30 years of service; she then worked as a substitute teacher for 13 years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church; a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority; a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers; a member of the Darke County Retired Teachers; and she volunteered at the Garst Museum.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother: Arthur W. Wilt.

She is survived by her husband Lee Elsass of Greenville whom she married August 25, 1957; children & spouse: Lorri & Jeff Shoop of Greenville, Larry Elsass of Margate, Florida, Lowell Elsass of Greenville; grandchildren: Krystin, Lyndsey, & Conner Elsass, Dirk Shoop; great grandchildren: Lexi & Lucas Shoop; brother: Philip W. McEldowney on February 14, 1991 whom she married August 2, 1969; son, William Grieshop; son-in-law, Arthur Fiely; step son, Mark McEldowney; step daughters, Mary Lou Wagner and Carol Coby; step sons-in-law, Daniel Eastridge and Warner Wagner; grandson, Jim Fiely; great grandchild, Riley Knapke; and brothers, George & Donald Mangen.

Audrey was a homemaker and worked at Crown Equipment in New Bremen for 27 years. Audrey was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown and St. Ann Sodality of the church. Audrey loved gardening, crocheting and reading.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Vada D. Fisher age 79, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 4:59 P.M. on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at her residence. Vada was born February 20, 1934 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Orville & Treva (Shaffer) Scherer.

Vada is survived by her daughters & son-in-law, Melinda Kay Wheeler of Centerville, Ohio and Lori Jo & Randy Jutte of Maria Stein, Ohio; granddaughters, Martha Wendel and Brie Jutte; sister & brother-in-law, Nelda Jo & Lowell Lucas of Jackson, Michigan; and brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Bill & Jennie Fisher of Virginia.

In addition to her parents, Vada is also preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Fisher on November 3, 1992 whom she married June 17, 1956; and brother, Orvind Scherer.

Vada was a graduate of Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She was a retired registered nurse and formerly worked for Dr. Houser, Dr. Blickenstaff, Dr. Platt and the Brethren Retirement Community. Vada was a member of Versailles Christian Church where she was a deaconess, choir member, former Sunday School Teacher, and former treasurer of the Philathea Women’s Fellowship of the church. Vada was a former volunteer for the Versailles Life Squad where she served as treasurer and secretary and was a former board member of the Darke County Red Cross.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Bill Fisher officiating. Donald retired from Corning after 42 years of service and was also a farmer. He enjoyed golfing, model trains, garden tractors and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Franklin C. Morris age 96, of Sterling House in Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:05 P.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. Franklin was born in Ridgeville, Indiana to the late Charles & Grace (Caylor) Morris.

Franklin is survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Sharon & Ron Stegemoller of Danville, Indiana; grandchildren, Rhonda Minton, Rox Anne & Mark Riegle, Robert Jr. & Sherri Morris, Kevin & Kelly Stegemoller and Brian Stegemoller; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Franklin is also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Pauline (Chittum) Morris on June 1, 2005; son, Robert Eugene Morris; and a sister, Glendora Brinkerhoff.

Franklin served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the Seabees. Franklin retired from Conrail Railroad in 1980 where he was a telegraph operator. Franklin also worker 18 years on the Greenville Police Department Auxiliary and the Greenville City School for 20 years where he drove school bus and was a custodian. Franklin was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Greenville and the Greenville American Legion.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Church of Nazarene 7584 State Route 118 in Greenville with Rev. Wayne Thomas officiating. Phyllis Jean Hamilton, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of the Dayton area, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 6:53 AM in the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Phyllis was born December 28, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio and the daughter of the late Wesley & Dollie (Kelly) McGlothin.

She retired in 1984 from General Motors of Dayton. Phyllis enjoyed her music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd G. Hamilton in 1996. Also by a granddaughter Amanda Witt and her brother Robert Ankrom.

Phyllis is survived by a daughter Karan (Keith) Hoschouer of Greenville and a son Harry G. & Stacy Witt Jr. of Clinton, Tenn. Her grandchildren and spouses Jeffrey (Misty) Witt, Laura (Jerry) Grimm, Destiny Hard, Randy (Amy) Broomhall and Brian Broomhall. Great grandchildren Amy Hicks, Brandy Vann, Corey Broomhall, Kyle Broomhall, Nicholas Broomhall, Mackenzie Broomhall, Tyler Witt, Connor Witt, Hannah Holt-Grimm, Hayle Allen, Wyatt Grimm and Ava Grimm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens 8200 West National Road, New Carlisle, Ohio with the Pastor Kyle E. Helsel officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the services in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Dave Weaver (September 28, 2013)

Dave Weaver, 56, of Greenville, Ohio passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton Ohio.

He was born May 5, 1957 in Greenville, Ohio, son of the late Robert C. and Polly A. (Plummer) Weaver.

Dave was a machinist, and also loved cars and music. He was retired from Cadillac Gage after over30 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Brittany (Andrew) Pepiot of West Chester; a brother, Jim (Kay) Weaver of Greenville; a niece, Diane Weaver of Greenville; a nephew, Lance (Kristen Wells) Weaver of Greenville; and the mother of Brittany, Beth Weaver of Greenville.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 4 at Abbottsville Cemetery with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 5-7 PM at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio. The family request that the memorial contributions be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Gary J. Puterbaugh (September 28, 2013)

Gary J. Puterbaugh, age 73, of Greenville, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Village Green Healthcare Center in Greenville.

He was born July 1, 1940 in Montgomery County, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph K. and Eva Marie (Beasecker) Puterbaugh.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Merle and Edgar Puterbaugh and 1 sister, Katheryn Eyer.

He is survived by a sister, Glenna M. Booker of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Kermit (Ruth) Puterbaugh of Greenville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

The family will be receiving guest at the funeral home Wednesday, from 9 AM until the time of the service at 10 AM.

Rebecca Lynn “Becky” York, age 49, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 5:21 PM at her residence. She was born on November 4, 1963 in Greenville, Ohio, to Linda L. (Sharp) Robinson of Greenville and Ted Cook of Hollansburg.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband David York of Hollansburg, Ohio, whom she married on December 17, 1993; sons and daughters in law, Nathan & Ashlee Curtner of Hollansburg, Rusty & Heather Curtner of Hollansburg and Troy York and fiancée Courtney Tolliver of Greenville; grandchildren, Jazimyne Meade, Jayden Curtner, Josalyn Curtner, Tristen Curtner, Kaitlyn Curtner and Landon Curtner; siblings Rick & Dawn Cook of Greenville, Tim & Robyn Cook of Greenville, Vick & Keith Fitzwater of Coletown, Ohio, and Holli Honeywell of Miamisburg, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Becky worked at Cal-Maine Foods in Rossburg, Ohio, as well as a Teacher’s Aide at Tri-Village Schools.
There will be a service held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Dennis R. Martin officiating. There will be no burial. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:30 to 2:30 at the funeral home.
