Gary is survived by his wife, Linda (Simmons) Pike; step children, Tracy & Dan Beachy, Christine & Stacy Moody and Brian & Jenni Sanders; 7 step grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, David & Bobbi Pike and Robert & Mary Pike; sister, Janet Rader; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary retired from the Union City Body Company in Union City, Indiana and transferred to Navistar in Springfield, Ohio where he had a total of 40 years of service.
Gary was an active volunteer of the Darke County Parks where he volunteered a lot of his time and served as President of the Friends of the Park. Gary loved astronomy and loved showing people the different stars and planets; he started a star gazer club at the Darke County Parks. Gary was a member of the Stillwater Astronomy Club at Brukner Nature Center in Troy. He loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gary was a good man whose selfless acts of kindness and giving will never be forgotten.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Janet Rader officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Garden in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Darke County, State of the Heart Hospice or Darke County Parks.
