Clement O. “Clem” Eckstein (December 26, 2014)

Clement O. “Clem” Eckstein age 81, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:33 P.M. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. Clem was born July 14, 1933 in Wendelin, Ohio to the late Clement R. & Teresa (Rammel) Eckstein.

Clem is survived by his wife, Eileen (Schmidt) Eckstein whom he married October 3, 1959; children, Dominic Eckstein & friend, Sharon Vogel of Greenville, Lisa & Larry Reigle of Tallahassee, Florida, Dennis Eckstein of Greenville and Rita & Michael Yarwick of Huber Heights; grandchildren, Courtney DiMaio, Brianna Gaffey, Erica Jones, Kailey Kurz, Brealyn Eckstein, Brandon Eckstein, Caitlyn Eckstein, Sophia Yarwick and Alaina Yarwick; great grandchildren, Keelia Gaffey, Layton Higgins and Madelyn Jones; brothers & sisters-in-law, Clarence & Alberta Eckstein of St. Marys and Eugene & Joan Eckstein of Coldwater; sisters & brothers-in-law, Cleophia Brunswick of Coldwater, Hilda & Clete Niekamp of New Bremen, Irene Mowen of New Bremen and Teresa & Bill Bowersock of Spencerville; sister-in-law & brothers-in-law, Virginia Walterbusch of Celina, Charles & Vera Schmidt of Coldwater, Ivo & Roseann Schmidt of Coldwater, Virgil & Velma Schmidt of Chickasaw, Paul & Janet Schmidt of Goshen, Ohio and Urban & Sandy Schmidt of Goshen, Ohio; special friends, the Mike & Sherri Jones Family of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Clem was also preceded in death by sons, Charles & Marvin Eckstein; daughter, Karen Eckstein; daughter-in-law, Cathy Eckstein; brothers, Lee & Herman Eckstein; sisters, Margie Benanzer & Imelda Keller; and father-in-law & mother-in-law, Henry & Leona Schmidt.

Clem was a graduate of the University of Dayton with a B.S. Degree in Education. Clem retired from Greenville High School where he taught for 19 years and Darke County Weight & Measures where he worked for 9 years. Clem was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. He was a 3rd Degree life member of the Knights of Columbus Greenville Council 1796 where he was a former Grand Knight. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of the Assembly of St. Gasper De Buffalo where he was a former Navigator. Clem was also a member of the Greenville Eagles where he was a Golden Eagle.

Clem was a man with a big heart, who generously gave of himself and touched many lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 233 West Third Street in Greenville with Rev. Fr. John White celebrant. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. A rosary service will be conducted by the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus at 5:30 P.M. and a 4th Degree Honor Guard Presentation at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
