Mary Ellen Livingston (January 27, 2014)

Mary Ellen Livingston, 85, of Union City, OH, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Rest Haven in Greenville.

She was born February 21, 1928, in Pikeville, OH, a daughter of the late Hugh and Gladys Hartzell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Bradley.

Mary Ellen was a bus driver for the Mississinawa Schools for many years. She was a member of Woodington Congregational Christian Church, the Oliver Gang, Greenville Farm Power of the Past and was a past secretary for the Darke County Steam Threshers.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald S. Livingston; 3 children, Onda (Richard) Creager of Union City, IN, Paula (John) Snyder of Greenville, OH and Tom (Annette) Livingston of New Weston, OH. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Emily James, Kip Copeland, Ross and Dustin Reichard, Megan Addington, Brandon Livingston and Nickie Bush; 15 great grandchildren with one on the way; 2 sisters, Fritz Pinney and Teddi Blocher, both of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1PM, Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Teegarden Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday from 5 to 7PM at the funeral home.

Dorothy (Mattingly) Rutherford Hogan (January 25, 2014)

Dorothy (Mattingly) Rutherford Hogan, 91, of Greenville, Ohio passed from earth to her heavenly home on January 25, 2014 at State of the Heart Hospice in Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. Dorothy was born on December 28, 1922 in Glomar, Kentucky to the late Ballard and Lola Mattingly.

Dorothy spent her professional life in medical service. She was one of the first employees of the Harlan Appalachian Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Kentucky. After the death of her parents, she was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis and later retired from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Dorothy was a hard worker her entire life. She loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them.

On her journey to be with Jesus, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Cecil Rutherford and Wayne Hogan; a brother, LeRoy Mattingly; and an infant son, Larry Wayne.

Dorothy leaves behind many family and friends to cherish her memory. She is survived by three sons, C. L. “Lee” and Sue Rutherford of Lexington, Kentucky, Roger and Ann Rutherford of Paducah, Kentucky and Randy Rutherford of Jonesville, Indiana; two daughters, Barbara and Hershel Fee of Greenville, Ohio and Lynn Schisler of West Milton, Ohio; a brother, Ballard Mattingly, Jr. of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her earthly presence.

Dorothy’s family wishes to thank all the staff and executives at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville who did such a wonderful job caring for her during the last few years. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to the dedicated and caring professionals at State of the Heart Hospice in Wayne Hospital. Their care during the transition period was pleasant for Dorothy and her immediate family who were with her during her final hours on earth.

A visitation for friends and family will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 4-6 PM at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville, Ohio. A Celebration of Life service will be on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Steele Chapel in Corbin, Kentucky with Rev. Hershel Fee officiating and burial immediately following in Worley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be sent to State of the Heart Hospice or Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund with donations being accepted at her services and Braund Pope Funeral Home.

Janice L. “Jan” Thomas, age 83, of Gettysburg, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 3:25 PM at her residence. She was born on February 26, 1930 in Lewisburg, Ohio, to the late Walter E. & Martha H. (Rice) Blankenship.

She is survived by her children, Linda Crowe of Greenville, Ohio, David Kolling of Greenville, Jimmy (Micki) Kolling of Kansas, Carol (Terry) Lawson of Greenville and Pam (Todd) Boose of Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Roger (Mildred) Blankenship of Lewisburg, Ohio, Steve Blankenship of Brookville, Ohio, David Blankenship of California and Joe Blankenship of California; sisters, Ondalea Keppel of Bradford, Ohio, and June Blankenship & Lois Wollenhaupt of Bradford; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jan was a member of the Greenville South Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a press operator at Stanhope Products in Brookville, Ohio for 21 years. She loved traveling, crocheting, flowers, gardening and working outside in the yard.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin, Bruce and Kenneth Blankenship; sister Melissa Norvell; infant brother Walter Blankenship and a son and daughter in infancy.

There will be a private memorial service held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery, Lewisburg, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Barbara S. Dill (January 22, 2014)

Barbara S. Dill, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 5:00 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on December 5, 1934 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Edward Garvey & Dorothy (Paulin) Garbey Lenker.

She is survived by her husband, Lowell Dill of Greenville, Ohio, whom she married on July 31, 1953; son and daughters in law, Brad & Kathy Dill of Greenville and Becky Dill of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren, Jody Dill, Ryan Dill and Jordan Dill; brothers and sisters in law, Lewis & Romona Garbey of Summerset, KY, and Jim and Rita Garbey of Gahanna, OH; sister, Mary Jane Dubbs of Troy, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son, Rick Dill; brothers, Dick & Bill Garvey; and sister, Doris Blackston.

Barbara was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and volunteered at the Family Bazaar and was also a member of the Senior Citizen Club. She loved horses, Judo, ceramics and playing euchre. She was a homemaker and worked at the Greenville City Schools cafeteria, cleaned Dill Oil Station and worked at the Greenville Township election booths.

There will be a service held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 131 East Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2-5 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville as well as one hour prior to the service at church.

Larry L. Calvert Sr. (January 22, 2014)

Larry L. Calvert Sr., age 75 of Eaton, Ohio and formerly of Greenville passed away at 12:24 P.M. Wednesday January 22, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. Larry was born November 28, 1938 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Ora May (Nestor) Calvert.

Larry retired in 1977 from the U. S. Air Force after 20 years of services, in 1987 from Fram Corp. of Greenville and later in 1993 from U.S. Airways.

He was a Life Member of the Greenville American Legion and V.F.W.; a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Greenville and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his first wife Winifred B. (Ballard) Calvert May 29, 1989; sisters Helen Dunn, Violet Cochran and Lucille McNutt; brothers Carl Calvert and George Calvert.

Larry is survived by his wife Kathy Calvert of Eaton, Ohio. Also daughter and son in law Denise and Jeffrey Addis of Greenville; son and daughter in law Larry L. & Rosemary Ann Calvert Jr. of Greenville; step sons Scott Ewen of Columbus, Indiana and Brain Ewen of Indianapolis, Indian; step daughter Debbie Bond of Richmond, Indiana; 3 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; sisters Doris Starnes of Greenville and Norma Penny of Ft. Jefferson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday January 28, 2014 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Lowell Spencer officiating. Burial will full Military Honors conducted by the Preble County Honor Guard will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery Greenville, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Tuesday 1 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Larry W. Barton (January 21, 2014)

Larry W. Barton, age 44, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 9:57 PM at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on March 15, 1969 in Greenville, Ohio, to Shirley (Bunch) Barton Allread of Greenville, Ohio, and the late Sylvester Barton.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his sisters, Brenda S. Worley of Greenville and Ann Chapman-Mayer of South Carolina; brother, James Browning of North Carolina; niece and nephew, Amy (Jed) Rhoades and Timothy Rhoades as well as numerous other nieces and nephews; great niece and nephew, Kylie and Tylyn Rhoades; friend Robert “Bobby” Shepherd of Vandalia, Ohio; girlfriend, Sherl of Columbus, Ohio; and aunts and uncles.

In addition to his father he is also preceded in death by his step father, Robert Allread.

Larry loved baseball, football, NASCAR and traveling.

There will be a service held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Arnold Wynn officiating. Patrick J. Flint (January 20, 2014)

Patrick J. Flint, 68, of Greenville passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at his residence.

He was born July 15, 1945 in Clinton County, Ohio, a son of the late Clarence and Edith Flint. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Arnold.

Patrick was a veteran of the Army.

He is survived by his son, Patrick Flint, Jr. of Union City, OH; grandchildren, Beth Kendrick, Cory Arnold, Vincent Arnold, Lauren Stump, Elizabeth Stump all of Greenville; and several great grandchildren.

Angela "Angie" Jean (Miller) Emerson (January 18, 2014)

Angela "Angie" Jean (Miller) Emerson, 44, of Arcanum, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2014 at her residence. Angie was born March 23, 1969 in Dayton, Ohio to Thornton and Janice (Smith) Miller of New Madison.

Angie loved spending time with her family and was a loving housewife.

In addition to her parents, Angie is survived by her husband, Raymond "Ray" Emerson whom she married on June 24, 2004; a grandmother, Florence Smith of New Madison; a brother, David Miller and fiancé, Kristy of New Madison; a sister, Aimee and Kenny Martin of Greenville; four nephews and two nieces.

Angie is preceded in death by her grandparents, Pearl Smith, Gallio and Easter Miller; her brother, Bobby Miller, and nephew, John Robert Martin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Eric Fee officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children fund or the ASPC.

Dwight H. Thompson (January 21, 2014)

Dwight H. Thompson, 75, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 21, 2014, at the Village Green Healthcare Center in Greenville.

He was born July 31, 1938 in Greenville, son of the late Robert and Delores (Boyer) Thompson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sondra Sue (Reed) Thompson, on September 26, 2012; a son-in-law, Greggory Livingston; a brother, Tommy Thompson; and a sister, Dixie Beckett.

Dwight was retired from Ramco Electric Motors. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, the VFW Post 7262, American Legion Post 140, and Moose Lodge #329, all in Greenville. He had also served two terms as Commissioner of Greenville Boys Baseball, and was a proud member of the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.

He is survived by his children, Craig (Tonia) Thompson of Greenville, and Carla (Mike) Otte of Maria Stein; grandchildren, Ashly (Josh) Shellhaas, Tasha Livingston, Nicole (Jeff) Gaylord; step grandchildren, Heather Shoenleben and Michael Shoenleben; a great grandson, Mahlon Greggory Shellhaas; a brother, Joe (Cheryl) Thompson, and a sister, Linda (Kerry) Ungericht all of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Gloria Thompson of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January25, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive Friday at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. with the Moose Lodge holding a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:45 p.m.

Wendell J. Thomas (January 20, 2014)

Wendell J. Thomas,78, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2014 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Wendell was born on July 19, 1935 in New Madison, Ohio to the late Forrest and Orpha (Hill) Thomas. Wendell was a graduate of New Madison Schools and was self employed in construction as a contractor his whole life. He was a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. Wendell served his country honorably in the United States Army, serving in Korea and also as a member of the New Madison Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the New Madison Kiwanis for over 48 years. Wendell enjoyed woodworking, fishing, family vacations and spending time with his family. Wendell was a big fan of Tri Village sports and The Ohio State football team. In addition to his parents, Wendell is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Thomas who passed away in January, 2007; a sister, Phyllis Thomas; a brother, Lowell Thomas; an infant sister, Eileen Thomas, a step mother, Mae Thomas. Wendell is survived by a son, Tony and Shawn Thomas of New Paris; a daughter, Terri Thomas of Chino Hills, California;three grandchildren, Seth, Shaye and Justice Thomas of New Paris; nieces and nephews, Totty Davis, Mike Thomas and Alysa Comfort of Florida and Pat Thomas and Kelly Thomas of New Madison.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 12:00 PM at New Madison United Methodist Church in New Madison with Rev. Carol Duffield officiating. Fonda Jo Deaton (January 19,2014)

Fonda Jo Deaton,38, of Englewood, Ohio, passed away, January 19,2014 at her residence. Fonda was born on March 15, 1975 in Greenville, Ohio to Jody William Howard of West Milton and Cheryl Douglas of Dayton.

Fonda was a 1993 graduate of Centerville High School. She also had a love for music. You could sing any lyrics of a song and she could name the song. She liked to play games on the computer and loved to play rummy. She collected dragon figurines and Mardi Gras masks. When she was younger, Fonda enjoyed roller skating.

Fonda is preceded in death by her grandfather, Rodney Lee Hiles, Sr. and her grandmother, Anna Lou Howard.

Those she left behind to cherish her memory, her mother and her father; a son, Joshua Mitchell Howard, two daughters, Brianna Reena Deaton and Ashlynn Jade Deaton; three sisters, Natasha Irene Sellner of Nebraska, Czarina Annette Patrick-Reese of Middletown, Ohio, and Tina Still of Huber Heights; two brothers, Gene Douglas Jr. of Huber Heights and Cory Howard of West Milton; grandpa, Jack Howard of Dayton; grandma, Ruby Hiles of New Paris; her best friend, Donna Brokert of Huber Heights; aunt, Sandra Law of New Paris; three uncles, Joe Hiles of Dayton, Rodney Hiles Jr. of New Paris, Ronald Hiles of Dayton; two cousins, Angel Hiles of Englewood and Tony Law of New Paris; and several nieces and nephews.

Alice Futrell (January 20, 2014)

Alice Futrell, age 87, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 7:02AM at the Arden Courts of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She was born on March 18, 1926 in Lawson, Arkansas, to the late Samuel N. & Zelma C. (Dillinder) Barnes.

Alice is survived by her son, F. Leslie Futrell (Theresa) of Marietta, Ohio; daughter, Sally Futrell (Tom) of Newbury, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy Futrell Manley (Rod), Gabe Futrell (Karyn), Jordan N Futrell, and Justin D. Futrell; and great grandchildren Garrett Manley, Carolyn Manley, Reagan K. Futrell, and Logan J. Futrell. Alice is also survived by sister-in-law Lucy Futrell and brother-in-law & sister-in-law Glenn & Aleta Futrell and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Rollin L. Futrell and son, Neal B. Futrell and brothers, Irvin Barnes and Everett Barnes.

Alice retired in 1981 as a teacher from the Greenville City School District. She was a graduate of Miami University and also attended Wright State University. Alice was a member of the Anthony Wayne 169 Board; Natures Trail Club; Treaty City Homemakers Club; First United Methodist Church, and was an officer in United Methodist Women.

There will be a service held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Peterson Richardson Funeral Home, 415 School Street, Carlisle, Iowa with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Palmyra Cemetery in Carlisle, Iowa. There will be visitation from 5:00 – 6:30 PM with a memorial service to follow at 6:30 PM on Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Angela Meeks officiating.

Robert E. "Bob" Rentz (January 2, 2014)

Robert E. "Bob" Rentz, age 82, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 12:01 AM at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Dallas, TX. He was born on June 29, 1931 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Albert & Wilma (Rose) Rentz.

Bob was a member of the United States Air Force. He owned his own business restoring Model A cars and manufacturing parts. He was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge #143.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Charles and twin brother Richard Rentz.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Evelyn (Mendenhall) Rentz of Greenville, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews, Carol (Roger) Howard, Barbara (Gery) Glover and Chuck Rentz of Maryland, John (Crystal) Rentz of Texas and David (Regina) Rentz of California.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM followed by a celebration of life at 2:00PM on Saturday, January 25, 2011 at the Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home, 1499 N Broadway Greenville, Ohio. There will be a private burial held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, OH.

Donald M. Isenhouer (January 18, 2014)

Donald M. Isenhouer, 93, of Versailles, OH, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Sterling House of Greenville.

He was born March 11, 1920 in Arba, IN, a son of the late Ray and Mary Isenhouer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, of 28 years, Caroline (Stuck) Isenhouer; three sisters, Marjorie Hoffman, Katherine Wills and Louise Fourman.

Donald was a veteran of the United State Army and served during WWII. He was a member of the Greenville VFW and St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Star, OH. Donald was a lifelong farmer. He worked for 17 years for the State Highway Department before retiring. He was a Jack-of-all-trades; he was a carpenter, truck driver, brick mason and factory worker. He left home to join the circus as a teenager and eventually realized his dream of being a clown with his friend, John Oliver, whose mother created clown costumes for them. They then participated in Versailles Poultry Days parades for many years. He enjoyed making people smile.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary K. (Billenstein) Isenhouer; four children, Jane Allread and Mark Isenhouer, both of Greenville, OH, Beverly (Ron) Grillot of Rossburg, OH and Richard Billenstein of Ansonia, OH; a brother, David Isenhouer of Greenville, OH; five grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Star, OH, with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Brock Cemetery

The family will be receiving friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Thursday, January 23, 2014, from 5 - 7 PM and again one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Jacqueline A. “Jackie” Brenner (January 14, 2014)

Jacqueline A. “Jackie” Brenner, age 86 of Omaha, Nebraska since 2005 and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away Tuesday January 14, 2014 in Lakeside Hospital of Omaha. Jackie was born February 17, 1927 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Eddie R. and Blanche (Pence) North.

She was retired from the former Uhlman’s Clothing Store and enjoyed dancing, gardening and spending time with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Brenner in 1997; Brother Marvin north; Sisters Jeannine Sowry and Jeannette Randall.

Gary L. Meyer age 62, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 9:28 A.M. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Gary was born August 1, 1951 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Lowell & Margaret (Black) Meyer.

Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy (McEldowney) Meyer whom he married August 12, 1972; daughter & son-in-law, Carrie Jo & William Cohoon of Michigan; son, Ty Batty of Versailles; brother & sister-in-law, David & Julie Meyer of Sidney; sisters & brothers-in-law, Patsy & Roger Stump of Tipp City and Linda Batty of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by a son, Andrew Meyer.

Gary served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Gary retired from Terra in Versailles where he was a custom applicator. Gary was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell. Gary was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Mary Elizabeth Thiessen (January 16, 2014)

Mary Elizabeth Thiessen, age 86, a resident of Hutchinson, Kansas and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Mennonite Friendship Communities in South Hutchinson. She was born on December 23, 1927 in Moline, Kansas the daughter of Andrew Frank and Minnie (Horning) Bruner. Mary was a graduate of Moline High School.

On September 4, 1947, Mary was united in marriage to Leo Henry Thiessen in Moline. Mary and Leo were married 52 years and spent most of their married life in Greenville, Ohio, where they raised their three children. Later in life Mary went back to school and got her LPN degree so she could continue her passion to care for others. Mary was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Greenville, Ohio. She enjoyed golf and helping out at church functions. Mary was loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to those who knew her.

Mary is survived by two daughters Patty Haugsness of Hutchinson, Kansas and Kimberly Thiessen and her husband Colin Franklin of Blue Springs, Missouri, one brother George Bruner and his wife Darlene of El Dorado, Kansas, grandchildren, Shawn Seelbrede and his wife Kristen of Lake Winnebago, Missouri; Addison Franklin, Sydney Franklin and Caleb Franklin all of Blue Springs, Missouri, great grandchildren Amelia Seelbrede and Mitchell Seelbrede both of Lake Winnebago, Missouri and caregiver Diana Duryee of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo, her daughter Linda Seelbrede, brother Frank Bruner and sister Bettie Hornbuckle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Thelma R. (Lambert) Barga, 96, of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Versailles Health Care Center.

She was born October 28, 1917 in Darke County, Ohio, a daughter of the late William and Mary Lambert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo C. Barga; a son, Jerome “Jerry” Barga and two sisters.

Thelma is survived by one son, Fred (Rita) Barga of Rossburg, Ohio; three daughters, Carol (Kenneth) Payauys of Worthington, Ohio, Susan (Philip) Panzarella of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Dixie (Richard) Liette of Tipp City, Ohio. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Wilma Barga of Ft. Myers, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown, Ohio with Fr. Jim Simons officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in North Star, Ohio.

Gary Lee Pike age 59, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:55 A.M. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his residence after a long courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born February 7, 1954 in Morgantown, West Virginia to Paul & Thelma (Clark) Pike of Englewood, Ohio.

Gary is survived by his wife, Linda (Simmons) Pike; step children, Tracy & Dan Beachy, Christine & Stacy Moody and Brian & Jenni Sanders; 7 step grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, David & Bobbi Pike and Robert & Mary Pike; sister, Janet Rader; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary retired from the Union City Body Company in Union City, Indiana and transferred to Navistar in Springfield, Ohio where he had a total of 40 years of service.

Gary was an active volunteer of the Darke County Parks where he volunteered a lot of his time and served as President of the Friends of the Park. Gary loved astronomy and loved showing people the different stars and planets; he started a star gazer club at the Darke County Parks. Gary was a member of the Stillwater Astronomy Club at Brukner Nature Center in Troy. He loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gary was a good man whose selfless acts of kindness and giving will never be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Janet Rader officiating. Hendrik “Hennie” Johannes van der Walt, age 20 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:30 A.M. Thursday January 16, 2014 at Children’s Medical Center Dayton, Ohio. Hennie was born January 21, 1993 in Pretoria South Africa and the son of Hendrik and Marnelise (Hugo) van der Walt of Greenville.

He was a 2011 graduate of Greenville Senior High School, a recipient of services from Wayne Industries and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Hendrik and Maria van der Walt.

Hennie’s survivors in addition to his parents are his brother Hugo van der Walt of Greenville; maternal grandparents Johannes and Suzanne Hugo of South Africa; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins all residing in South Africa; as well as many beloved friends in the Greenville area.

Ernest A. “Ernie” Hemmelgarn age 90, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 6:11 P.M. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Sterling House in Greenville. Ernie was born April 18, 1923 in Mercer County, Ohio to the late Ernest H. & Lena (Pottcotter) Hemmelgarn.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen M. (Barga) Hemmelgarn whom he married February 1, 1947; daughters & sons-in-law, Mary Ann & John F. Simon of Bradford, Ohio and Rita Marie & Gregg Henschen of Findlay, Ohio; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Gerald & Norma Hemmelgarn of Versailles, Ohio; sisters & brothers-in-law, Betty Lou & Julius Jutte of Ft. Recovery, Ohio and Ruth & Robert Bettinger of Apollo Beach, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ernie is also preceded in death by his sisters, Marceil Meyer, Jean Ann Hemmelgarn and Bernice Frilling.

Ernie served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was very proud that he served his Country. Ernie retired in 1984 from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, where he was Assistant State Supervisor with 35 years of service. Ernie formerly worked at Poultry Producers and Weaver Brothers in Versailles. Ernie was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Versailles Knights of Columbus where he was Past Grand Knight; Versailles V.F.W. and the Versailles Eagles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with full Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Virginia L. Jones, 69, of Citrus Springs, FL., passed away Saturday evening, January 11, 2013 at her sister's residence in Greenville.

She was born April 17, 1944 in Ft. Wayne, IN, daughter of the late Ralph M. and Byrdine (Hunter) Byrd.

Virginia had spent several years as a secretary/teacher's aide for the Randolph Eastern School Corporation. After retirement from the schools, she had worked at Walmart in Greenville, OH and in Florida. She was raised in the Teegarden Congregational Church and later in life attended the Hillgrove Federated Church. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard F. Jones, whom she married June 2, 1962; two daughters, Melissa (Tony) Harter of Union City, IN, and Melynda (Richard) Ludwick of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Leanna (Cameron) Vaughn, Leslie Harter, Christianne Ludwick, and Richard "Richy" Ludwick, II; and three sisters, Josephine Lehman of Greenville, Sue Byrd of Sun City Center, FL, and Carol (Jack) Bubeck of Greenville.

A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, January 16, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 515 W. Oak St., Union City, IN with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating.

She was a member of the Abbottsville United Methodist Church, was an avid bowler, had served as State Director of the Women’s Bowling Association, a former member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club of Greenville, worked as a clerk for the Professional Motorcycle Racing Organization, member of the Eagles, Elks and Moose Ladies Auxiliary of Greenville and Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Black Chapter in New Madison.

There will be a service held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Michael had been employed as a Licensed Plumber with Westfall Plumbing of Greenville, Ohio. He loved playing golf, fishing, hunting, mowing his grass and playing billiards. He was a 1968 graduate of Franklin Monroe High school.

Michael’s survivors in addition to his father are his children Michele E. Miller, Cynthia J. Miller both of Kokomo, Indiana and Michael A. Miller of Greenville. Special friend Debbie Braun; Grandchildren Mikayla Miller, Emma Miller and Andre Springfield; brothers Randy Lee Miller of Arcanum and Patrick D. John Everett Hipshire, 78 of Union City, OH went to be with the Lord after a brief illness at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, OH.

John was born in Grainger County, TN on April 9, 1935, a son of the late Everett and Ada (Simmons) Hipshire.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Smith & Lucille Ballinger, one brother, Richard (Dick) Hipshire and two granddaughters, Jamie (Hipshire) Johnston and Casey Hipshire.

John has left behind his wife of 60 years, Peggy Hipshire, 7 children, Johnny "Alvin" (Pam) Hipshire, Pamela (Ben) Lux, Clarence (Nancy) Hipshire, Adina Hipshire, Laura (the late David) Bartlett, Joe (Elsie) Hipshire and Jeff (the late Ingrid) Hipshire. He was also blessed with 21 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson.

John spent his years working for Tipp Top Canning Company in Tipp City and managing his own Oakleaf Trucking Company where he made many friends throughout the years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth A. Moorman whom she married on July 11, 1959; son, Jeffrey B. Moorman; brothers, Robert and Donald Ott; sisters, Mary Jo Ott and Gladys Rybicki.

Marcella retired from Fram as an Administrative Assistant and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years and also a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas; she was involved in the Rosary Altar Society in Greenville and loved playing bridge and bingo.

There will be a Memorial Mass on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 233 West 3rd Street, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. John R. White celebrant. Mr. Robert A. Trisler (January 5, 2014)

Mr. Robert A. Trisler, 93, originally from Dayton, Ohio and a longtime resident of Vandalia, Ohio; Tucson, Arizona; and Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday January 5, 2014 at 8:10 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville. He was born April 19, 1920 the son of the late H. Lee & Florence (Faig) Trisler.

He was a 1938 graduate of Fairview High School in Dayton, Ohio and served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Intrepid in the Pacific during World War II. He knew the Wright Brothers in his youth and maintained a life-long love of flying which led to a career at Trans World Airlines.

He was a member of the Dayton Masonic Temple and later the Vandalia Masonic Lodge where he achieved the standing of 32nd Degree Mason. He was actively involved in Scouting with Troop 307 in Vandalia. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and later trailering with his wife in retirement traveling much of the US.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Daisy E. Trisler.

He is survived by his stepsister, Peggy McKeand of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter and son-in-law: Connie & Roger Brocious of Greenville, OH; son and daughter-in-law: Don Trisler & Catherine Davis of Cohasset, MA; grandchildren: Molly Trisler, Jeff and April Brocious, Gus and Anita Brocious; great grandchildren: R. Don and Ashley Brocious, and Adam Brocious, Nicole and Jessica Brocious, and the values he taught us all.

Ella Mae Bowlby, age 92, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 4:50 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on November 12, 1921 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Albert & Agnes (Ulshafer) Snyder.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Fritz of Modoc, Indiana; daughter, Pamela Harmeson of Union City, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters, Donald Fritz of Greenville, Ohio, Clifford & Frances Fritz of Bradford, Ohio, Carol Fritz of Piqua, Ohio, Rita Fritz of Greenville, Ohio and David Clarence & Barbara Fritz of Greenville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Judy Fritz of Greenville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven "Steve" Ross Price (January 1, 2014)

Steven "Steve" Ross Price, 64, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2014 at his residence. Steve was born on October 3, 1949 in West Alexandria, Ohio to his late father, Frank A. and mother, Madeline (DeShayes) Price of West Alexandria.

Steve was retired from General Motors Truck and Bus after over 25 years of service as a maintenance dispatcher. He served his country honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War. Steve was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #8312 in Beavercreek. He had an honorary degree from the VFW Military Order of the Cootie in Beavercreek.
Steve was a member of the Christian Life Center of Beavercreek. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and fishing. He loved watching OSU football and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, Steve is survived by his wife, Andra (Lopez) Price, whom he would have been married 34 years to on January 24; two daughters, Angela A. Price of Beavercreek and Stephanie and Joe Cantrell of Englewood, Ohio; four grandchildren, Michael Allen Campbell II, Zackary Anthony Cantrell, Madeline Isabella Cantrell and Mackenzie Ann Cantrell; two brothers, Mike and Debbie Price of West Alexandria and Frank and Linda Price of Bellbrook, Ohio; several nieces and nephews in the Chicago and Dayton area, and his special companion, Roxy his dog.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Christian Life Center, 1321 Research Park Drive in Beavercreek, with Pastor Ryan Day officiating. Velma Irene (Myers) Garbig (December 30, 2013)

Velma Irene (Myers) Garbig died Monday, December 30, 2013 at her home in Arcanum, Ohio. Velma performed one last gift by being a donor to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program.

She was born December 9, 1919 in Montgomery County, Ohio; daughter of the late Glen and Mildred (Stoner) Myers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George D. Garbig whom she married May 17, 1938, a son, George Garbig, son-in-law James Robeson and grandson Zachary Garbig; and also brothers, Emerson Edwin Myers, Glen Allen Myers, Jr., Richard Arlen Myers and sisters Evelyn Elizabeth (Myers) Sensenbaugh, Anna Mae (Myers) Reiling, Betty Jane (Myers) Foster and Shirley Ellen (Myers) Wenger.

Velma worked many years at Wayne Hospital in Greenville before moving to Bowling Green Kentucky. After George retired from the Chrysler Corporation they moved to the family farm north of Greenville and then moved to Arcanum, Ohio. Velma and George proudly celebrated 75 years of marriage in May, 2013. Velma was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum.

She will be greatly missed by those who survive her including a brother Teddy Lee Myers, Sr., daughters, Teddi Robeson of Oxford and Linda (Bill) Campbell of Arcanum; son Phil (Karen) Garbig of Arcanum; and 6 grandchildren; Brad (Beth) Robeson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christopher (Julie) Robeson of Columbus, Ohio, Tricia (Kevin) Eilerman of Eaton, Ohio, Elizabeth (Chris) Schul of Middletown, Ohio, Caroline (Craig) Schmidt of Arcanum and Benjamin (Jaimee) Garbig of Arcanum; also 13 great-grandchildren, Kalen Robeson, Alyssa Robeson, Aaron Robeson, Davis Robeson, Isabel Robeson, Ethan Garbig, Braden Garbig, Regan Blinn, Reece Blinn, Lily Schul, Kris Eilerman, Cameron Garbig and Weston Schmidt.

Dennis L. Meeks, age 55, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 8:50 AM at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. He was born on October 4, 1958 in Troy, Ohio, to the late Austin Eugene & Dorothy (May) Meeks.

Dennis is survived by Patricia (Hayes) Meeks of Greenville; daughters, Kristen Meeks and Megan Meek of Greenville; sister and brother in law, Cheryl & Bryce Allmon of Knoxville, TN; nieces and nephews, Sean Hayes, Sherry Price, Patrick Hayes, Brett Allmon, Ashley Craft and Alex Allmon.

He was a teacher at Arcanum Schools for 22 years before retiring from Patrick Henry after 5 years. He was a member of the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren in Lima, Ohio, Greenville Masonic Lodge #143, past president of the Darke County Ohio State Alumni Association, and was named twice in the Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He loved traveling, reading and scuba diving.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son Andrew Lloyd Meeks and brother Kenneth Meeks.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. George Doyle Garbig (December 23, 2013)

George Doyle Garbig died Monday, December 23, 2013 at State of the Heart Hospice’s Care Center at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio following a short illness. George performed one last gift by being a donor to the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program.

He was born March 25, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio; son of the late Ernest & Elizabeth (Hartle) Garbig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, George Garbig, son-in-law James Robeson and grandson Zachary Garbig; and also brothers, Emerson Garbig, Ernest Garbig and sister Elizabeth Morton.

George retired from the Chrysler Corporation and retired a second time from farming. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a 65 year member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge of Ansonia & Versailles. George was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Arcanum.

Donnie retired from Westinghouse - A.O. Smith in Union City, Indiana. Donnie was a master carpenter and did construction work in the community all his life. Donnie was a member of the Woodington Congregational Christian Church. Donnie was an avid woodworker, making scale model tractors from wood, enjoyed making crafts and going to the Power of the Past and Steam Threshers. He was an advisor of the Cloverettes 4-H Club for 32 years. Donnie was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Treaty City Motorcycle Club.

He served in the United States Navy in Japan during the Vietnam War. He retired from Darke Rural Electric where he worked in the billing department. He attended First Presbyterian Church; was a 1966 graduate of Greenville High School; he earned an Associates Degree from Edison Community College; he enjoyed gardening, reading and music and loved the outdoors.

He is preceded in death by his parents, & sister: Carole Yount.

Services will be held on Monday December 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Darke County.

Helen “Pauline” Hicks (December 24, 2013)

Helen “Pauline” Hicks age 91, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Pauline was born March 18, 1922 in Union City, Ohio to the late Mary (Reigle) Cook.

Pauline is survived by her good friends, Fred & Joyce Matix of Greenville, Dennis & Jana Kiser of Greenville and their children, Landen and Evan Kiser; and Brian & Julie Matix of Hamilton and their children, Christian and Emma Matix.

In addition to her mother, Pauline is also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Hicks on October 4, 1995; and a brother, William F. Cook.

Pauline retired from Hobarts in Greenville where she worked on the assembly line. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Hobarts.

A private funeral service will be held at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Garden.
