Miriam Ilene Knick (September 26, 2016)

Miriam Ilene Knick, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:58 PM Monday September 26, 2016 at the Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio. Miriam was born April 14, 1930 in Darke County Ohio and the daughter of the late Myron R. and Cleo Mae (Brinkman) Hahn.

She retired from the Darke County Department of Health as the Administrative Secretary and the Registrar of Vital Statistics in 1987 after 36 years of service. Then employed by the American Cancer Society for 6 years, retiring in 1994.

Miriam was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Greenville, the Luther Ladies and the Evangelism Committee of the Church, Greenville Business and Professional Women’s Club, Nifty Neave Homemaker’s Club and the Public Employee Retirees Club. She was also a 1948 graduate of Gettysburg High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John R. Knick October 27, 1985. They were married October 2, 1948. Also a step great niece.

Miriam is survived by two brothers Richard (Gloria) Hahn and Ronald Jay (Gail) Hahn, both of Bradford; 2 sisters Wilma (Fred) Fellers of Greenville and Janice (Vincent) Reed of Lewisburg; 12 nieces and nephews, 18 great nieces and nephews, 8 step great nieces and nephews, 6 great great nieces and nephews, 8 step great great nieces and nephews and 4 step great great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday October 1, 2016 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church 131 East Fourth Street Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio and on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of the services in the church.

Carol R. Kagey (September 20, 2016)

Carol R. Kagey, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:00 PM Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Brethren Retirement Community. She was born in Piqua on September 6, 1922 and the daughter of the late Carl and Erma (Denman) Ford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Daniel F. Kagey Sr. and her grandson Daniel F. Kagey III.

Carol is survived by her sons and their spouses Daniel F. (Teresa) Kagey Jr. and Kyle (Virginia) Kagey all of Greenville. Also grandchildren Kelli Kagey of Cincinnati, Amy (Matt) Garrison of Worthington and Molly (Andy) McMullen of Miamisburg; great grandchildren Emily (Brad) McIntyre, Derek (Laura) Kagey, Drew Garrison, Alex Garrison and Libby McMullen; great great granddaughter Everleigh McIntyre; sisters Mabel Hepner, Joyce Koontz and Shirley Lenart as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol was a beautician for 50 years working from her residence and a 1940 graduate of Greenville High School. She enjoyed traveling especially to England.

Private Memorial Services will be held in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Jim Vandermark officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Patricia L. Lipps, age 91, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away at 8:23 A.M. on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Patricia was born July 2, 1925, in Greenville to the late Clarence J. & Leona (Green) Ungericht.

Patricia is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Paula & Charles Godsey of New Madison, Nan & Richard Fritsche of Columbus and Linda & Mark Searls of Greenville; grandchildren, Deetra & Shawn Huntington of London, Mathew & Amanda Searls of Dayton, Danielle Fritsche of Columbus, Courtney & Matt Pulfer of Versailles and Kim & Nathan Warren of Greenville; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Sharp of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Lipps on January 17, 2009 whom she married March 20, 1948; and brothers, Richard, Earl and Jim Ungericht.

Patricia formerly worked at Woolworth’s in Richmond, Indiana and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Universalist Church in New Madison. Patricia was also a member of Eta Pi Kappa Sorority.

A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Richard Venus officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. A private burial in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison will be at the convenience of the family. Deloris Violet Hyer (September 24, 2016)

Deloris Violet Hyer, age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 8:20 AM at Brookdale Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 5, 1923 in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late Walter and Velma (Flory) Smith.

Deloris is survived by her son and daughter in law, Steven & Maria Hyer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; granddaughter, Stephanie Hyer; brother, Doyle L. Smith of Union City, Ohio; nieces, Brenda Criss and Lynn Smith; and nephews, Craig, Carey, Daren and Devin Smith.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Carrol “Bud” Hyer whom she married on April 2, 1949; grandson, Nicholas Hyer; sisters, Fern Banker and Charlotte Criss; and brothers, Paul Smith and G.L. Smith.

Deloris worked at Second National Bank for 13 years and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Moose and Elks Lodge.

There will be a service held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Randy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Marlene N. Ward, age 89, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 1:05 PM at Village Green Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on March 20, 1927 in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Henry M. & Nola E. (Miller) Bowman.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Leslie E. & Debra Ward of New Madison, Ohio, and Roger & Danna Miller of Greenville; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Campbell of Rossburg and Karen Sue & Dwayne Mote of Versailles.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Lester E. Ward and brother, Millard H. Bowman.

Bobby Joe "Bob" Partin, age 43, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Saturday, September 24, 2016 at his residence.

He was born Wednesday, December 13, 1972 in Piqua, OH, a son of Sandra Partin.

In addition to his father, Bob was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert S. Partin.

Bob liked NASCAR, the Dallas Cowboys and motorcycles. He loved his Granny and had a lot of love for all his friends and family. Bob loved his Lord and savior. He will be dearly missed.

Carl E. Wetzel (September 22, 2016)

Carl E. Wetzel, age 85 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 9:00 AM Thursday September 22, 2016 at his residence. Carl was born July 1, 1931 in Arcanum, Ohio and the son of the late Jasper E. and Mary H. (Fisherbach) Wetzel.

He retired April 1, 1991 from Inland Manufacturing-General Motors of Vandalia after 30 years of employment and was a member of the Inland Retirement Club.

Carl was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Air Force from January 3, 1951 until December 15, 1953. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 140, the 40 & 8 Club of the Legion, Greenville V.F.W. and a very active member of the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. He was also an avid sports fan with particular interest in the Cincinnati Reds and The Ohio State University Football. In his spare time Carl maintained an impeccable garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Fred, Floyd and Ralph Wetzel.

Carl is survived by his wife Anna (Grishaber) Wetzel of Arcanum. They were married in 1955. Also daughters and son in law Drema Wetzel of New Paris and Rose Mary (Curt) Lambert of Arcanum; grandchildren Ashley (Najib) Lambert-Sayed and Cameron (Tiffany) Lambert; brothers Duane Wetzel of Arcanum, Don Wetzel of Mississippi, Gene (Joyce) Wetzel and Jim (Kay) Wetzel all of Arcanum; sister Marilyn (Mike) Keller of Greenville; sisters in law Rose Grishaber and Betty (Ed) Booth; brother in law Bob Grishaber an well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday September 26, 2016 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father Ken Baker officiating. The will be Full Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the funeral home.

Thelma S. Ross, age 98, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 11:45 P.M. on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Oakley House in Greenville. Thelma was born March 29, 1918, in Springfield, Ohio, to the late Otis C. & Pluma (Martin) Smith.

Thelma is survived by her daughters & son-in-law, Lura Ross of Greenville and Roberta & Charles McIntyre of Fruita, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Patrice Ross of Columbus; grandchildren, Elyse Mancy, Julie Mancy, Greg Mancy, Charles & Ying Pei McIntyre III, Rebecca Ross and Tom Ross; and great-grandchildren, P.J. Mancy, Charles Fiterman, Aleah McIntyre, Charles Stafford McIntyre V, Ralph Waldo McIntyre Jr. and Jack Liu McIntyre.

Thelma was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Ross on February 16, 2007 whom she married December 27, 1941; son, Stanley J. Ross; grandson, Eric McIntyre; and sister, Ruth Floyd.

Thelma graduated from Ohio University in Athens and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Thelma taught business for 30 years, having taught at Palestine, Westmont and Greenville Schools. She was a former member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and was very active in ALANON.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Mike Simmons officiating. Paul E. Bailey, 84, of Greenville, OH, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at his residence.

He was born July 12, 1932 in Dayton, OH, a son of the late Gene and Mary (Kreitzer) Bailey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne J. (Griffin) Bailey whom passed October 11, 2015; and a grandchild.

Paul was a Korean War veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy. He had retired from Corning, where he had worked for over 35 years as a press operator. He was a member of EUM Church in Greenville, America Legion, and Corning Retirees Club.

He is survived by his children, Kevin Bailey, Kimberly (Dale) Francis, Debra Barnhardt, Darrel (Wenndi) Bailey all of Greenville, and Douglas (Brenda) Bailey Ogden, UT; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and brother, Glen (Barbara) Bailey of Huber Heights.

Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM, Monday, September 26, 2016 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Gardens in Covington, OH.

Travis Andrew Hampshire, 31 of Bradford, Ohio passed away on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 1:35 PM at the home of his beloved sister. He was born April 13, 1985 in Greenville, Ohio the son of Diane & Chris Cundiff of Bradford and the late Timmy Hampshire. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a factory worker and a cook.

He graduated from Franklin Monroe High School in 2003 where he played baseball, ran cross country and track; he was in 4 H; and showed horses; he attended F.O.A. Meetings.

He is preceded in death by his father; grandfathers: Lloyd Hampshire, & Gene Thompson; Uncle Terry Thompson.

He is survived by his mother and step father; his siblings & spouses: Heather & Jason Lawson of Laura, Brandon & Lila Hampshire of Japan, Tiffany & Phillip Pollic of Union City; grandmothers: Betty Thompson of Bradford, Norma Hampshire of Union City; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, & cousins; special friend: Trema Boling.

LeVert, Margaret Marchal (Peg) (August 19, 2016)

LeVert, Margaret Marchal (Peg) died peacefully at her home in Punta Gorda, Florida on Friday August 19, 2016. She was born in Steubenville July 6, 1944 to Herman and Rachael (Regnier) Marchal who predeceased her. The family soon moved to Greenville, Ohio. After graduation from Ohio Northern University, Peg practiced as a Registered Pharmacist in the Dayton area for many years. On April 14, 1973 Peg married the love of her life, Ronald D. LeVert. They shared 36 wonderful years until Ron died in October, 2009.

Peg is survived by her brother William of Pawleys Island SC, nieces, Rachel Mouser, Sarah Marchal Murray and Mary Marchal; nephews, Joseph and Christopher Marchal; her special girls, Peggy Kirsop, Becca Lawless and Lynn Koon; and grandchildren, Megan, Matthew and Marilyn Kirsop, Nick and Scott Lawless and Emily Koon.

Peg was a gifted needleworker, sharing her talents and many creations with family and friends. She was an active, beloved member of the Dayton Chapter of The Embroiderer’s Guild of America; the Buckeye Chapter of The American Needlepoint Guild and the Queen City Sampler Guild.

A Memorial Mass will be offered Saturday, September 24 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 233 West Third Street, Greenville with internment following at Greenville Union Cemetery, 200 West Street. Friends and family may gather at Peg’s home, 233 Stoneybrook Dr., Kettering, Ohio, to remember and celebrate her life Sunday, September 25, 4-8 pm. Mr. Jody L. Shuff, age 55, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 1:57 PM at his residence. He was born on May 14, 1961 in Darke County, Ohio, to Dick Shuff & Betty Lou (Lipps) Reyna.

He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Jamie Cook of Owensville, Ohio, Randi Painter of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Amanda & Josh Fiehrer of Loveland, Ohio, and Katie Shuff of Williamsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Peyton, Garrett, Nevaeh, Collin, Rozalyn, Charlie, Raven, Alyce, Ryder, and George.; sisters and brothers in law, Becky & Kevin Young and Dana & Terry Allread; brother, Rory Shuff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jody worked in the Heating and Cooling business as well as the Auction House in Greenville and the Darke County Fairgrounds.

Joel Edgar Bruss (September 11, 2016)

Joel Edgar Bruss, 65, of Greenville passed away at State of the Heart Care Center in the early morning hours of September 11, 2016 following a brief battle with cancer. The third child of the late Paul Edgar Bruss and Blanche Ellen Godown Bruss, he was born in Greenville on September 29, 1950. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1969 and enlisted in the Army on June 30, 1970. For much of his military service he was assigned to Ft. Huachuca in Arizona. Joel received an Honorable Discharge on June 29, 1973. Following the service he returned to Greenville and became a furnace operator for Corning. He was with Corning for over twenty-seven years and was one of the last employees out of the plant when it closed in 2000. Joel then went to work for Greenville City Schools and retired from the school district in September of 2012. In retirement he took pride in maintaining the house and yard, he enjoyed some travel, spent time with family and grandchildren, watched golf and Ohio State football and also helped to care for his wife’s parents. He was a member the VFW, the American Legion and St. John Lutheran Church where he served on the Property Team.

Joel is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Carol Rismiller Sellman Bruss; daughter Melissa Schnitzspahn and husband Kevin; son Kevin Paul Bruss and wife Jessyca; grandchildren: Jack and Nicholas Schnitzspahn, Ella Bruss, Paige and Ashley Carter; sister Wanda Bailey and husband Joe; nephews: Pat Foley (Kandy) and Paul Bailey; nieces: Becky Foley Forse (James), Heidi Bailey and Kate Foley Custer. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Etta Mae Foley, brother-in-law Thomas Foley and niece Heather Bailey.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday September 24, 2016 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Brian McGee officiating. The Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct a Military Service at 3:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Jacob “Jake” Turner, 19 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday September 14, 2016 at 1:56 PM while living life to the fullest like he always loved to do. He was born April 10, 1997 in Kettering, Ohio the son of Lisa & Sylvain Shank of Greenville and the late James B. Turner III

He is preceded in death by his father; his grandfathers: Delbert Sams Jr., James B. Turner Jr., and Garlen Turner.

The most important people in his life are his FRIENDS; he is survived by mother and step father; his brother: James A. Turner; sisters: Lily Preston, Madison Preston, Daphnee Shank, & Sandrine Shank; grandmothers: Lois Sams, & Dorothy M. Turner; & many loving aunts, uncles, & cousins.

Robert "Bob" Henderson (September 14, 2016)

Robert "Bob" Henderson, age 88, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Wayne Health Care in Greenville.

He was born Saturday, November 12, 1927 in Ansonia, OH, a son of the late Wilbur and Gertrude (Young) Henderson.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Edmund, Raymond and Harold Henderson.

Bob was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Washington DC. He was long time member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Ansonia American Legion Post 353. Bob was an avid card player, fisherman and golfer. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Betty Neitzelt, Henderson, of 67 years, whom he married August 27, 1949; 3 sons, R. Craig Henderson of Groveport, OH, Mike (Debbie) Henderson of Greenville, OH and Mark (Cindy) Henderson of Springboro, OH; 9 grandchildren, Janelle (Jorge Garcia) Henderson of Columbus, OH, Alyssa (Michael) Jameson of Commercial Point, OH, Stacia (Joshua) Thornton of Canal Winchester, OH, Ryan (Leah) Henderson of Brookville, OH, Scott (Jenna) Henderson of Batesville, IN, Joshua (Staci) Henderson of Cincinnati, OH, Jared (Amanda) Henderson of Cincinnati, OH, Kirsten (Brady) Selhorst of Springboro, OH and Andrew Henderson of Cincinnati, OH. Bob is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Neitzelt and Jan Henderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Ansonia United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Hoeksema officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Greenville Honor Guard, will follow in Greenville Cemetery.

Daniel F. Kagey III, age 52 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:47 PM Monday September 12, 2016 in Greenville. He was born May 31, 1964 in Greenville and the son of Daniel F. & Teresa (Martin) Kagey Jr.

Dan was a former 30 year employee of Lewisburg Container and a 1982 graduate of Greenville Senior High School. He was an avid golfer and a member of White Springs Golf Course and a member of the Greenville Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Daniel F. Kagey Sr., and maternal grandparents Gay W. Martin and Delpha Bolyard.

Survivors in addition to his parents are his children Emily (Brad) McIntyre of Englewood, Ohio and Derek F. (Laura) Kagey of Troy, Ohio; granddaughter Everleigh McIntyre, sister Kelli Kagey of Cincinnati, paternal grandmother Carol Kagey of Greenville and numerous aunts and uncles.

Thelma Jean (Detrick) Miller, age 90, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 12:50 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on March 15, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late John & Clara (Miller) Detrick.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Wayne & Vana Miller of Blytheville, Arkansas; daughter, Kathy Miller of Crossville, Tennessee; grandson, Kevin (Heather) Miller; great granddaughter, Kaylee Ann Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family, Kim & Rod Grim and family and Gladys Crawford, as well as the residence and staff at the Brethren Retirement Community.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Elton B. Miller; infant son, Gary Ray Miller; brothers, Ernest, Dale, Galen and Gerald Detrick; and sister, Beulah Snyder.

Thelma was a secretary in Brown Hall at Miami University for 20 years. She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and loved sewing, painting and making stuffed bears

Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Anderson (September 11, 2016)

Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Anderson, age 78 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:32 PM Sunday September 11, 2016 in the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Kenny was born February 18, 1938 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Chester and Irene (Hittle) Anderson.

He retired in 2000 from the Union City Body Company after 42 ½ years. Kenny was a Richard Petty - racing fan, enjoyed fishing, woodworking and in earlier years riding motorcycles, dirt bikes and participating in Miniature Tractor pulling.

Kenny is survived by his wife Phyllis Jean (Bear) Anderson of Greenville. They were married September 29, 1957. Also children Sherry (Joseph) Shafer of Greenville and Darren (Celita) Anderson of Wayne Lakes; grandchildren Justin Shafer and Jennifer Shafer; step grandchild Amanda (Lee) Patton and step great grandchildren Macyn Patton and Nolan Patton.

Private Graveside Memorial Services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Oak Grove Cemetery Ft. Jefferson, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. There will be no visitation.

Janey Christman of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 11:00 PM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. She was born in Union City, Indiana, to the late James & Maxine (Halley) Hatfield.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years John Christman of Greenville, Ohio; beloved son and daughter in law, John & Lisa Christman; grandson that was near and dear to her heart, Michael; sister and brother in law, Sue Ellen & Donald Reed of Parkers City, Indiana; brother and sister in law, Mike & Debbie Hatfield of Bradenton, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Connie Breedlove Howard of Muncie, Indiana, and adopted parents, Glenn & Gladys Kendall.

Janey was a Social Worker and Director of the Community Action Partnership for years. She was a graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School and was a member of the Eastern Star. Janey’s life was based around helping others and changing lives.

Russell Keith Cleere (September 11, 2016)

Russell Keith Cleere, age 37 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 4:20 AM Sunday September 11, 2016 at his residence. He was born December 14, 1978 in Peru, Indiana and the son of George Robert and Amanda J. (Hall) Cleere of Greenville.

Russell was employed at Ft. Recovery Industries, a 1996 graduate of Greenville Senior High School, member of the Men’s Fraternity of Greenville and was recently involved in Revive Ohio 2 Step Bible Study Program.

Russell was preceded in death by an infant niece Kalis Maryann Cleere; grandmothers Maryann Clibbery and Frances Baire; grandfathers Ferdinand Steiger and George Herman Cleere as well as all his great grandparents.

Russell’s survivors in addition to his parents are his wife April R. (Brady) Cleere of Greenville. They were married February 29, 2012. Also son Kendall E. Cleere, daughter Katelynn Cleere and step daughter Sasha Hull all of Greenville; brother Jason Jerome (Mia) Cleere of Union City, Indiana; sisters Dawn Marie Cleere of Greenville and Candice Dee (Christopher) Schubbe of Alexandria, Virginia; 9 nieces and nephews; 3 great nieces and nephews; his Bull dog “Beezie” and numerous aunts, uncles and great aunts and uncles.

Shane worked at Voisard Tool in Russia, Ohio as a machinist. He loved dirt track racing where he traveled all through the Tri-State area. He enjoyed fishing but most of all spending time with his kids working on his race car.

John Herbert Laub, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born on July 11, 1937 in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Herbert & Clairabel (Kimmel) Laub.

He is survived by his wife, Twila (Hyer) Oldham of Greenville; children and their spouses, Christine & Michael Gehron of Vandalia, Ohio, Jacqueline & Richard Voisard of Versailles, Ohio, Bruce & Linda Laub of Covington, Ohio, and Marlene Laub of Versailles, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Larry & Denise Laub of Covington, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, James Laub.

John worked as a truck driver for Weaver Brothers in Versailles for 30 years as well as a dispatcher for Carl Subler Trucking. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Versailles Eagles, AM Vets Post 66, Greenville VFW, American Legion, Versailles Christian Church for over 50 years where he was baptized on April 2, 1955. He was a 1955 graduate of Versailles High School and was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and antique model trucks.

Clara Arnett (September 9, 2016)

Clara Arnett, age 84, of Greenville, OH, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, September 9, 2016 peacefully at her home.

She was born Thursday, October 15, 1931 in Sidney, OH, a daughter of the late Charles and Inez (Tasker) Wright.

Clara loved spending time with her family. She truly loved her grandchildren and devoted a lot of her time to her church and teaching Sunday school. She loved children and taught Kindergarten thru 6th grade. After 33 years of teaching, she retired in 1992 from Greenville City Schools. Clara received her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1958 from Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN.

Clara is survived by her Husband, Andy Arnett, of 53 years, whom she married November 17, 1962; daughter, Andrea (Scott) Rowland of Ansonia, OH; 4 grandchildren, Justin (Shelby) Rowland of Rossburg, OH, Cody Rowland of Ansonia, OH, Alexa Rowland of Columbus, OH and Andrew Rowland of Ansonia, OH.

James "Keith" Howard, age 72, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Friday, September 9, 2016 at his residence.

He was born Monday, April 24, 1944 in Ansonia, OH, a son of the late Herschel and Dora (Rodeheffer) Howard.

Keith enjoyed working with his hands and tinkering around with cars. He especially loved riding his Honda V65 motorcycle. He appreciated nature and would enjoy his long bike rides in the country. He liked playing golf and socializing with his friends and family.

Keith is survived by his Wife, Carol Howard; children, Laura (Doug) Lester of Greenville, OH, Bryan (Diane) Howard of Mansfield, OH and Aaron Howard of Greenville, OH; 2 grandchildren, Phillip (Elizabeth) Howard of Arcanum, OH, and Stephanie Lester of Greenville, OH; 3 great grandchildren, Prestyn Dross, Liam Howard and Peyton Lester; 5 brothers and sisters, Barbara Parker, Glenna Howard, Leon Howard, Marvin (Delores) Howard and Tony (Vicki) Howard, all of Greenville. Francis William “Jake” Compton, age 71, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 6:21 AM at Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on August 21, 1945 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Sam & Mary (Cooper) Compton.

Surviving is his wife, Betty (Preston) Compton of Greenville; children and their spouses, Tim & Linda Penkal of Bradford; Kathy & Donnie Gilmore of Covington, Ohio, Angie & Gary McFerran of Greenville, Kimberly Penkal of Greenville, Johnny & Angie Penkal of Greenville and Glenn Penkal of St. Joseph, Michigan; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and uncle, Clarence “Hoop” & Mag Cooper of Dayton, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Michael James Penkal.

Jake worked at Production Paint in Bradford, Ohio, for 22 years and was a member of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed watching football, especially the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Reds, NASCAR, Pro Wrestling and most of all spending time with his family.

Dwight William Roll, 77, of Port Clinton and formerly of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio.

He was born April 27, 1939 in Ansonia, Ohio to the late Herbert and Esther (Martin) Roll.

Dwight served his county honorably in the U.S. Navy for four years. Dwight was with the Teamsters Union for 30 years and owned his own barber shop in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was a member of the Elks lodge and the American Legion in Punta Gorda, Florida, the Moose Lodge in Port Charlotte, Florida and the Ansonia United Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Dwight is preceded in death by his brothers, Nevin, Gerald, and Byron Roll and sisters, Carolyn Brandon and Roberta Davis.

Dwight is survived by his, wife of 53 years, Barbara (Wilson) Roll of Port Clinton, OH whom he married September 9, 1962; sons, Dwight D. Roll of Port Clinton, OH and his fiancé, Diana K. Fox of Norwalk, OH and Matthew W. Roll and his fiancé, Kristen Bayliff of Tipp City, OH; sisters in law, Darlene Roll of Bellefontaine, OH and Dola Roll of Greenville, OH; several nieces and nephews.

Sisters; Susan (Massie) Anderson (spouse: Gary), Florida. Sandy (Massie) McCarty (Spouse: Patrick), Florida. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dan and his wife Gail owned and operated Greenville Architectural Glass (formerly Greenville Glass) since 1980. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose, Eagles, and Turtle Creek Golf Club. He enjoyed playing golf, working in his backyard while sitting by the fire pit and listening to his Cincinnati Reds on the radio. He liked to tinker in the garage and restore old cars and antiques. Dan loved his family and spending time with them, especially his wife Gail. He loved to travel and visit family and friends and golf with anyone who was up for a game. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1971.

There will be a service held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Jeff Harper. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

Martha Marie Crawford (September 7, 2016)

Martha Marie Crawford, age 83 of Palestine, Ohio passed away at 5:00 AM Wednesday September 7, 2016 in the Rest Haven Nursing Home of Greenville. Martha was born February 7, 1933 in Darke County Ohio and the daughter of the late Chalmer and Almena (McCown) Okey.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at the former Gade Nursing Home for many years. Martha was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Crawford January 21, 2006. Also by her brother Marvin Okey and nephew Eddie Spicer.

She is survived by her children Garry (Roslyn) Crawford of Antelope, CA., Jerry (Vickie) Crawford and Terry Crawford all of Greenville, Joyce Crawford Bonner and Debbie (Colin) Bennett all of Cincinnati; grandchildren Ryan Crawford, Tera (Joe) Huffman, Tayler Crawford, Jerrin (Brandi) Bennett, Jenise Bennett, Jason Crawford and Tristan Bonner; several step grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sisters Betty Archie of Union City, Ohio and June Spicer of Greenville, special nieces and nephews Bonnie Okey and Connie Thompson, Darrell Archie and Kevin Spicer as well as other nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday September 10, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church 202 West Fourth Street Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Angela Meeks and Mr. Richard Thompson co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Clemens Cemetery Darke County Ohio. The family will receive friends on Saturday 1 hour prior to the services in the church.

Margaret N. Williams (August 30, 2016)

Margaret N. Williams, age 94, a resident of Oakley Place and formerly of 312 Ave. A. Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:15 PM Tuesday August 30, 2016 at Oakley Place. She was born November 13, 1921 in Greenville, Ohio and the daughter of the late John J. and Annabelle (Helm) Newbauer and married to the late Jim H. Williams.

Margaret was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, having been baptized, confirmed, married and with both of her children baptized and son married in the Presbyterian Church. She served the Church in many capacities, being a Deacon, Elder, Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and was Secretary-Treasurer of the morning circle women’s group for 12 years. She was also a Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts, past member of Lambda Chi Omega Sorority, past member of the Greenville County Club having served as President for many years for the Women’s Golf Association.

Margaret graduated from Greenville High School in the class of 1939 and had been employed at JC Penney Company, Gallagher Drug Store, Darke County Credit Bureau and radio station WDRK in its early days. Her passions were playing bridge and golf. As a volunteer, she delivered Meals on Wheels, tutored at East School and worked bingo at the Elks Club.

In addition to her parents and husband Jim, she was preceded in death by her daughter Jennifer (Williams) McWhinney and her beloved sister Ina Whitesel.

Margaret is survived by her son James (Jamie) Craig Williams of Connecticut; grandson Gabriel McWhinney; son-in-law Russell McWhinney; several nieces and nephews; special friend Perry Reynolds and very special friend Paulette Shields of Greenville.

Memorial Services will be held at the convenience of the family in First Presbyterian Church 114 East Fourth St., Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Greenville Cemetery.

Garry L. Mitchell, age 71, of Union City, Indiana, passed away at 11:13 A.M. on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at IUH Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. Garry was born September 4, 1945, in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Thomas Mitchell & Joe Ann (Vanoy) Whittaker.

Garry is survived by his children, Danny L. & Tammy Mitchell of Greenville and Marilyn & Kelly Brown of Union City, Indiana; grandchildren, Kristen & Dale Bowling, Stephanie Mitchell, Dennis & Chelsea Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell and Michael Brown; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Strong, Aubree Wilson, Ashlyn Bowling and Emma Mitchell; brothers, Larry & Charlotte Mitchell of Arcanum, Jeff Whittaker of Arizona and Donnie Mitchell of Anderson, Indiana; sisters, Karen & Dave Price of New Madison and Glenda Mitchell of Anderson, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Garry was also preceded in death by his wife, Karen (Starks) Mitchell; granddaughter, Patricia Ann Brown; and sister, Janice Mitchell Smith.

Garry was a painter at Union City Body Company for 35 years.

Floyd James Whistler (September 5, 2016)

Floyd James Whistler, age 78, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:17 AM Monday, September 5, 2016, at Reid Health Center Richmond, Indiana. Floyd was born January 25, 1938, in Union City, Ohio, to the late Raymond and Hazel (Rhoades) Whistler.

Floyd retired from Fram Corporation of Greenville and formerly worked at the Greenville Walmart Store. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving from 1957 until 1961. Floyd volunteered at the Garst Museum and Shawnee Prairie Preserve in Greenville. Floyd enjoyed traveling and working in the yard.

Floyd was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Maxine Revelle; and brother, Charles “Gene” Whistler.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Rayna Rogene (Hartley) Whistler whom he married May 26, 1990; son, Gregory James Whistler of Greenville; step son, Mark (Martha) Lawrence of Old Monroe, Missouri; grandchildren, Tom Lawrence and Amy Sutton; 4 great-grandchildren; half-sister, Diane Van Sickle on Tennessee; brothers, Don Whistler of Hardy, Arkansas, and Max Morgan of Tecumseh, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Garden with Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. Timothy A. Ridenour (September 4, 2016)

Timothy A. Ridenour, 56 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday September 4, 2016 with his loving wife and caregiver by his side at the James Cancer Center at Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born September 20, 1959 in Shelby, Ohio the son of Jean & Mel Evenden of Troy and the late Clarence Ridenour. He served in the United States Navy. He retired from the Greenville Fire Department in 2008.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus; he was a Boy Scout Leader; Lehman Catholic Music Department; Rolling 50s Car Club; President of the Greater Ohio Fire Safety Educators for several years; Fire Safety Educator for the Greenville Fire Department; he built the fire truck book case at the Greenville Library; he was a welder; and would do anything for anybody at any time.

He is preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother and step father; his wife of almost 34 years Mary Ann Ridenour; sons: Christopher Ridenour, Kevin Ridenour and fiancé Brooke; brothers & sisters & spouses: Ken & Ann Ridenour, Nita & Juan Rivera, John & Deb Ridenour, Jim Ridenour, Sally & Alan Dunavent, & Patrick Ridenour; numerous step siblings; & numerous nieces & nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday September 9, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 233 West Third Street, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Ken Baker Celebrant. Michael M. Pretsman, age 55, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Monday, September 5, 2016 in Greenville.

He was born Monday, February 20, 1961 in Greenville, OH, a son of the late Marvin and Dolores (Grice) Pretsman.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Regina Napier

Mike enjoyed the outdoors and would spend many hours at Celina Lake and walking the trails in Englewood. He loved motorcycles and rode many miles on his Honda Goldwing. Mike was a brave and courageous man and was determined to fight his cancer, and did until the end.

Mike is survived by his three sons, Zachary Pretsman, Jacob Pretsman and Gabriel Pretsman, all of Greenville, OH; three sisters, Brenda (Terry) Best, Greenville, OH, Phyllis Davenport, Greenville, OH and Sherri Robinson, Greenville, OH and close friend and caregiver, Cheryl Worden, Greenville, OH, Mike is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Elijah, Bailee, Hayden, Madison, Carter, Cameron, Jordan, Dakota, Sabrina, Zachary and Hannah Pretsman.

Betty June Miller, age 96, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 4:50 A.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Oakley Place in Greenville. Betty was born June 10, 1920, in Ansonia to the late Arthur & Ethel (Yockey) Riegle.

Betty is survived by her children, Nancy & Bill Keiser of Arcanum and Mark & Joyce Miller of Lynn, Indiana; grandchildren, Kurt (Andria) Keiser of Tipp City, Kristy (Mark) Engel of Camden, Bryan (Shannan) Miller of Lynn, Indiana, Jill (Greg) Wissel of Lynn, Indiana, Brad (Angie) Miller of Winchester, Indiana and Jami (Chad) Allen of Lynn, Indiana; great grandchildren, Paige Miller, Ellie Miller, Natalie Wissel, Samantha Wissel, Caleb Wissel, Delaney Miller, Arick Miller, Shelby Miller, Cami Miller, Elijah Allen, Alyssa Allen, Noah Allen, Jolee Keiser, Katie Engel, Kallie Engel and Wyatt Engel; step great-granddaughter, Britnee Stickles; sisters & brother-in-law, Carol Labig of Greenville and Melissa & Sam Strosnider of Rossburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Miller on November 13, 2003 whom she married August 22, 1943; and a sister, Roxine Besecker.

Betty was a homemaker and retired from Royal Garment in Ansonia. She was a member of the Greenville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Greenville and played cards at the Ansonia Senior Citizens. Betty enjoyed her family, grandchildren, many friends and being part of the 3 Amigos.

Kenneth Charles Meade, 56, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away August 30, 2016, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Athleen K Buhrman (August 28, 2016)

Athleen K Buhrman, age 79, of New Madison, OH, passed away, Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Brookhaven Retirement Community in Brookville, Ohio.

She was born Friday, February 19, 1937 in Coletown, OH, a daughter of the late Jack and Audrey (Marrick) Peters.

In addition to her parents, Athleen was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Buhrman in 2015; her brother, John Peters, and two sisters, Phyllis Overholser and Zona Bashore.

After raising four boys, Athleen returned to nursing school and became an LPN and retired from the Brethren's Retirement Community after 20 years of service. She loved to crochet and provided numerous afghans to her family. She and Robert enjoyed traveling after they retired. She was a devoted wife and loving mother.

Athleen is survived by her four sons, Rob (Tammy) Buhrman of Milton, FL, Randy (Annette) Buhrman of Englewood, OH, Ron (Mindy) Buhrman of Arcanum, OH, and Rod (Stephanie) Buhrman, Port Orchard, WA; 12 grandchildren, Jessica Buhrman of Dayton, OH, Amanda Buhrman of Union, OH, Dustin Buhrman of Denver, CO, Kayla Taylor of Franklin, OH, Nic Buhrman of Beavercreek, OH, Parker Buhrman of Arcanum, OH, Josh Buhrman of Tampa, FL, Amber Elliott of Tampa, FL, Curtis Buhrman, Jacob Buhrman, Ben Buhrman, and Abby Buhrman all of Port Orchard, WA; and 8 great grandchildren.

Lois is survived by her husband, Don A. Ralph William Fasick, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 4:50 PM Sunday August 28, 2016 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Ralph was born September 2, 1921 in Arcanum, Ohio and the son of the late Ray and Clara (Fourman) Fasick

Ralph started working at the age of 16 at the Nestle Milk Plant of Greenville. He was employed with Nestle for 50 years before retiring to Greenville in 1987. During his employment with Nestle he wore many hats. He was part of the management team at the Nestle Coffee Plant in Granite City, Illinois and the Nestle Deer Park Spring Water Plant in Deer Park, Maryland. At various times during his career with Nestle he traveled internationally to Germany, England, Switzerland and Australia to help develop new products or get them up and running. He and his wife Dorothy lived in Connecticut during the time he worked at the Nestle Headquarters in White Plains, New York prior to his retirement.

As a devoted husband and loving father he was able to find some time during his busy working years to be active in various civic organizations and was a member and served as Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, Ohio. He also enjoyed playing cards, telling stories and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy C. “Dottie” (Curtner) Fasick January 30, 2008. They were married January 4, 1941. His brother Howard Fasick as well as in laws: William and Alma Curtner, Denver Curtner, Wanda (Curtner) Campbell, Edith (Curtner) Prether, James Campbell and Ruth Curtner.

Ralph is survived by his daughter DaOnne Chenault of Granite City, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law JoAnne and George Brink of Dahlonega, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Steven R. and Linda Fasick of Decatur, Illinois; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, brothers-in-law William Curtner Jr. and Lloyd Curtner; sisters-in-law Janet Fasick and Polly Curtner all of Greenville and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday September 1, 2016 in the First Presbyterian Church 114 East Fourth Street Greenville, Ohio wit Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Patricia was also preceded in death by a brother, Jim Magoteaux; and sister, Wanda Reck.

Patricia was a beautician for 38 years. She was Past Senior Regent of the Moose Lodge in Greenville. She was a member of the Greenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Greenville Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and Ft. Recovery V.F.W.
