Grayson Alphonso Johnson (January 22, 2017)

Grayson Alphonso Johnson, 6 months, of Bradford, OH, passed away, Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Wayne Healthcare.

Grayson was born Sunday, June 26, 2016 in Dayton, OH, a son of Corey Johnson and Sarah Murray.

Grayson was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Alphonso Russell.

Grayson is survived by his siblings, Addison Johnson, Ashley Mock, Katie Mock, Natalie Mock, Alyssa Hudson, Alexis Hudson, LaTasha Eichenlaub, Preston Ashton and Corey Hott; maternal grandmother, Lorey and Duane Simons of Xenia; maternal grandfather, Richard Yohey of Greenville, TN; paternal grandmother, Emma Russell of Smyrna, GA; aunt, Tamara Secrest and fiancé, Jeffrey Lamberson of Richmond, IN; uncles, Allonte Russell of Smyrna, GA and Alphonso Johnson of San Diego, CA

Services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Abbottsville Cemetery.

Terri L. Martin (January 25, 2017)

Terri L. Martin age 63, of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 11:58 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. Terri was born January 26, 1953, in Greenville to the late Donald & Helen (Phelps) Demorest.

Terri is survived by a son, Randy Martin of Rossburg; daughter, Gina Ziesemer of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Zach Ziesemer and Caleb Ziesemer; brother & sister-in-law, Tim & Nancy Demorest of Lone Jack, Missouri; and nieces, Amy Cochran, Amanda Carver and Tammy Deaton.

In addition to her parents, Terri was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Martin; and brother, James Michael Demorest.

Terri was a homemaker. She was a member of the Greenville V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Greenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Jessica Erin Colvin, 35, of Palestine, OH, passed away, Monday, January 23, 2017.

Jessica was born Monday, January 26, 1981 in Greenville, OH, a daughter of Rosie and Robin (Bunger) Colvin of New Madison.

Jessica loved to garden and plant flowers. She loved her two dogs, Lady and Honey. She enjoyed playing the Ohio Lottery.

Jessica is survived by her sons Dillon and Elijah; brother, Jared Colvin of New Madison; maternal grandmother, Donna Shank of New Madison; maternal grandfather, Ron Shank of Ithaca; paternal grandmother, Ruth Loy of Arcanum; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.

Melissa (Engelken) Cremeans age 66, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 1:28 P.M. on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Kettering Medical Center. Melissa was born November 27, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late John E. & Edna Marie (Rismiller) Engelken.

Melissa is survived by her children, Lance & Christina Martin of Kettering and Candice & Anthony Sanders of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Travale, Alexis, Anthony, Chase, Arianna, Chandler, Gemma and Sloane; great-grandchildren, Malique, Brandyn, Harmony and Sevyn; brother-in-law, Dan Staab of Cincinnati; niece, Julie & Ben Freeman of Louisville, Kentucky; and nephew, DJ & Sarah Staab of Cincinnati.

In addition to her parents, Melissa was also preceded in death by her husband, Denzel Cremeans; and sister, Teresa (Engelken) Staab.

Kathryn E. Knick (January 19, 2017)

Kathryn E. Knick, age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 3:13 PM at her residence in Okeechobee, Florida. She was born on April 20, 1923 in Ansonia, Ohio, to the late Stanford & Freda (Drew) Hunt.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years Ralph E. Knick of Greenville, Ohio, whom she married on February 7, 1942; son and daughter in law, Tom & Sharon Knick of Tipp City, Ohio; grandson, Scott (Nicole) Knick; great grandchildren, Adriana, Parker and Bennett Knick; son in law, Dean Salts of Columbus, Ohio; sister in law, Mildred Hunt of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by daughter, Connie Salts; brothers, Lester, Faris & Joseph Hunt.

Kathryn was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the American Legion all of Greenville. Member of the American Czech-Slovak Club in Dayton, Ohio, and was very active in Polka Ballroom dancing.

There will be a service held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as on Saturday one hour prior to the service at church.

Eddie Dean Manning III (January 21, 2017)

Eddie Dean Manning III, age 23, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Grant County, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 AM at his residence. He was born on May 6, 1993 in Fort Wright, Kentucky, to his mother, Jodi Lucas of Grant County, KY and father and step mother, Eddie & Candace Manning II of Grant County, KY.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his fiancé, Jenny Lucas of Greenville; siblings, Haylee Manning, Kylee Manning, Carlee Manning and Dylan Manning all of Grant County, KY; grandparents, Tom Lucas of Greenville, Eddie Manning Sr. of Pendleton, KY, Nancy Manning of Grant County, KY, and Jack & Bonnie Besecker of TN; great grandmother, Velma Lucas of Greenville; uncle, Dickie Lucas of Greenville; as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his great grandfathers, Gerald Lucas and Joe King and cousin, William Robertson.

Eddie worked as a satellite technician for Direct TV and Exede Internet. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Greenville and the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and spending time at the cabin in the woods but most of all loved spending time with his family.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Brian McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Fern H. Heise (January 18, 2017)

Fern H. Heise, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Brethren Retirement Community. Fern was born on September 10, 1927 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary (Paulus) Hershey.

In addition to her parents, Fern is preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth and Dale Hershey.

Fern is survived by her husband, Dr. Jesse L. Heise whom she married on June 15,1951. Together they have five children, two daughters, Esther (Bob) Hoover and Sue ( Mark) Walton; three sons, Ken (Becky) Heise, Keith ( Susan) Heise and Kurt (Samantha Olzeski) Heise; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.

Fern lived in Pitsburg, Ohio with her husband to whom she was a faithful companion. Her love and faithfulness helped make it possible for him to serve the community as a family physician for many years.

She graduated from Goshen College with a degree in Home Economics Education, Fern then taught at Messiah College for 2 years prior to her marriage. While her husband was in medical school she worked at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, as a dietician. Fern unselfishly used her many talents and skills in her home, church, community and on the mission field.

Fern was a member of the Pleasant Hill Brethren in Christ Church. She was also a member of the Entre Nous Club and the Darke County Home Economics Club. She accompanied her husband and their five children to Africa where they served in medical missionary work for a period of one year. Fern enjoyed planning family reunions. She was a gracious hostess, entertaining family and friends at their home in Pitsburg on many occasions.

A Celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel with Rev. John Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Family and Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel.

She is survived by her husband Bill Miller of Arcanum whom she married on February 28, 1966; daughter Kari Miller of Knoxville, TN; son Chad Miller of Atlanta, GA; bestest friend Sir Oliver Stonewall Fuzzbucket (Ollie); daughter in law Debbie Miller-Fox and husband Jerry of Anderson, IN; grandchildren Chelsi (Mike) Fry of West Alexandria, OH, Eric Ruxer, of New Lebanon, OH, Abbey (James) Stern of Indianapolis, IN, Eli Miller of Anderson, IN, and Noah Miller of Anderson, IN; mother Rosie (Finney) Vickery of Union City, IN; sisters Jana (Bill) Bruggeman of Ft. Loramie, OH, and Linda St Myers of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers in law, Wayne Cox of Greenville and Pat St Myers of Port Clinton, OH; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and Nancy’s special friends the Chix with Stix Knitting Family.

Deborah was born Saturday, August 16, 1952 in Greenville, OH, a daughter of the late Henry and Clara (Miller) Kramer.

In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by an infant brother. James Kramer, and sisters, Regina Speigle and Carol Kramer.

Deborah attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville. She loved to collect music boxes.

Deborah is survived by her life companion, Dick Voskuhl, Greenville; daughters and sons in law, Corinna and Tim Bailey of Spartanburg, SC, Tamara Halsell of Spartanburg, SC, Sharon and Josh Moyer of Columbus, OH ; son, James Stephens of Union City, IN; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert and David Kramer; sisters, Mary Stump and Virginia Gottfried; several nieces and nephews; as well as Dick's daughters, Lisa Upchurch of Van Wert, OH, and Laura and Rory Fifer of Bryant, IN and his sisters and brothers-in-law.

Richard "Dick" Lorton, age 88, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born Wednesday, July 11, 1928 a son of the late JB and Opal (Feltman) Lorton.

Dick was a fixture at the Greenville Elks for over 60 years. He enjoyed cards. He owned Lorton Taxi for 5 years and worked at Union City Body Company for 30 years before retiring.

Dick is survived by his wife of 71 years, Fay (Birt) Lorton, whom he married in March, 1945.

In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his two children, Jim (Marilyn) Lorton and Jill (Rick) Thompson both of Greenville, OH; three grandchildren, Jamie (Billy) Swartz of North Port, FL, Jeff May of Pitsburg, OH, and Jennifer (Charlie) Pauly of Greenville, OH, seven great grandchildren, Skylarr Deeter, Tori Swartz, Bill Swartz, Brody May, Clay Buckingham, Lacy Henniger and Madison Pauly; and four great-great grandchildren, Lucas Burnette, Everleigh Aust, Owyn Aust, and Kayden Buckingham.

He was born January 7, 1934 in Loris, North Carolina the son of the late James O. & Rhoda M. (Sole) Barnhill. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service then worked for Corning Glass, Price Brothers, & was the owner of the Corner Restaurant in Arcanum for 20 years

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Sonja Fay (Roberts) Barnhill whom he married March 19, 1955; his brother: James Barnhill; his sisters: Eula McGranahan, Shelly Wool, Isla McGuire, Nila Pagen, Alice Todd, & Inez Jenkins

He is survived by his daughters: Rhonda Marshal of Arcanum, & Sharon Madascy of Arcanum; grandchildren: Misty Dickens, Kristen Marshal, & Steven Madascy; great grandchildren: Matthew Marshal, Scott Marshal, Chase Dickens, & Lily Dickens; sister: Bonnie Gravely of Florida; numerous nieces & nephews.

Mildred H. "Midge" Mann, 75, of New Madison, OH, passed away, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

She was born Tuesday, November 4, 1941 in Dayton, OH, a daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (Roach) Stahl.

In addition to her parents, Midge was preceded in death by her brother, Robert "Bobby" Stahl

Midge loved to camp. She and Tom have camped at Kozy in Celina for 27 years. She was a charter member of the Tri Village Rescue and was active with it for over 25 years. She loved to cook and to care for others. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom she will forever be known as Nana.

Midge is survived by her Husband, of 57 years, Thomas Mann, whom she married June 2, 1959; three daughters, Toni Null of New Madison, OH, Tina (Joe) Dunham of New Madison, OH and Terri (Chris) Miller of Eldorado, OH; three grandchildren, Michael Null, Christopher (Shannon Van Duyn) Mann, and Jacob Miller, all of New Madison, OH; five great grandchildren, Lilly and Olivia Null, Hope Dunham, Ryker and Reagan Mann; two sisters, Jan (Harold) Nace of Trotwood, OH, and Ruth Stevens of Ludlow Falls, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Thomas Lee "Tommy" Lunsford (January 9, 2017)

Thomas Lee "Tommy" Lunsford, age 68, of Union City, IN, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at his home.

He was born Friday, June 25, 1948 in Indianapolis, IN, a son of Ethel (Johnson) Sullivan of Akron, OH and the late Richard Roy Lunsford.

In addition to his father, Tommy was preceded in death by his step-father Cameron “Panther” Sullivan.

Tommy was a true cowboy; he rode bulls, broncs, and was a trick rider, and owned a small circus years ago.

Tommy is survived by his girlfriend of 18 years Anita Cunningham; daughter, Lori Lee (Dewey) Waldron; granddaughter, Loraine Grace Waldron; two brothers, James R. Sullivan of Greenville, OH and Cameron Sullivan of Winchester, IN; and his sister Vickie Ann (Terry) Murray of Akron, OH.

Tonia "Toni" Edwards, 70, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

Tonia was born Monday, September 2, 1946 in Greenville, OH, a daughter of the late Ed and Ethel (Thomas) Van Dyke.

In addition to her parents, Tonia was preceded in death by her daughter Cassandra Campbell, sisters, Janice Seifman and Jane Van Dyke.

Tonia was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Greenville. She enjoyed playing on the computer, coloring and visiting family in Las Vegas.

Tonia is survived by her husband of 48 years, Duane "Lum" Edwards of Greenville, whom she married Friday, February 16, 1968; daughter and son in law, Dawn and David Duff of Covington, OH; grandsons, Jacob Campbell and Lucas Campbell both of Belleville, MI; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson.

Douglas A. Erisman, age 64, Greenville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:42 AM at his residence. He was born on June 2, 1952 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Roland Erisman & Betty (Wentworth) Wilmoth.

He is survived by his sons and daughter in law, Tom & Jamie Erisman and Tim Erisman both of Greenville; grandchildren, Emma Erisman and Brennen Siefring; step mother, Donna Erisman of Greenville; brothers and sisters in law, Ed & Amy Erisman, Joe & Robin Shoemaker, Eric & MaryBeth Erisman and Chris & Felicia Erisman all of Greenville; sister, Sherry Sutter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was a truck driver for Wayne Wetzel Trucking. He was a member of the Versailles Eagles and loved to fish.

There will be a service held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Soley officiating. Burial will follow in the Stelvideo Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary Ann Reed (January 7, 2017)

Mary Ann Reed, 72, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

Mary Ann was born Saturday, January 29, 1944 in Greenville, OH, a daughter of the late Guy and Ruth (Neff) Reed.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Sondra Sue Thompson.

Mary Ann was a past member of the Greenville Moose Lodge and American Legion also in Greenville. Mary enjoyed playing bingo, cards and loved to gamble.

Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Doris Jean Koffer of Greenville; Nephews, Craig and Tonia Thompson of Greenville and Lonnie and Rita Koffer of Pitsburg, Oh; niece, Carla and Mike Otte of Maria Stein and Kris Culver of Greenville; several great and great great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will be in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Richard "Dick" K. Emrick (January 5, 2017)

Richard "Dick" K. Emrick, 81, of New Madison, OH, passed away, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

Dick was born Thursday, May 23, 1935 in Middletown, OH, a son of the late Willis and Edith (Henderson) Emrick.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Emrick, brothers, Lloyd, Gene, Robert, Donald and Rolland Emrick, sisters, Kathleen Baker, Evelyn Cencebaugh, Maxine Baker, Shirley Geeding, Rosanna Owens and Helen Smith, a step son, Rick Miller, and a step great granddaughter, Katelyn.

Dick graduated from Monroe High School in Preble County. He was a retired carpenter and brick layer who constructed and renovated many homes and businesses in the local area. He served as an Eldorado council member for 4 years and was a member of the Sons of the Amvets in Eldorado.

Dick is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Rhonda and Bruce Snyder of Englewood, Cheryl and Tom Wright of Cumming, GA and Mindy and Jim Feuerborn of Nashville, TN; step children, Don and Nancy Miller of New Madison, Steve and Connie Miller of Arcanum, and Sue Miller of Colorado Springs, CO; 5 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 21 step great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis and Harold Swihart of Eldorado and Norma Bishop of Richmond, IN; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison with Pastor Carol Duffield officiating.

Michaelene Bowen, 83 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Thursday January 5, 2017 at 12:35 PM. She was born March 15, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Michael & Margaret (Thompson) Rossner. She was a homemaker and was an artist and taught dance.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Roberta Ann Wendel; brother: David Rossner.

She is survived by her husband: Charles R. Bowen; children: Vesta Whisler, Michael (Denise) Wallace, & William (Teresa) Wallace; step children: Krista (Tom) Sewell, Linda (Tim) Nelson; grandchildren: Robert Wallace, Michele Patterson, Patricia Westfall, Cynthia Wallace, Regina Tyree, Jennifer Williamson, Sarah Yoder; step grandchildren: Kelly Wayne & Angie; 7 great grandchildren; sisters: Judy Norton, & Peggy (Kenny) Norton; numerous nieces & nephews.

R. Eugene Sharp (January 4, 2017)

R. Eugene Sharp, age 100 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:30 PM Wednesday January 4, 2017 at the Brethren Retirement Center Greenville, Ohio. Gene was born January 10, 1916 in Ansonia, Ohio and the son of the late Raymond and Maud Alice (Stephens) Sharp.

Gene’s career spans many many years. He first worked 2 years as the store manager at the former Kroger Grocery located in Arcanum. Then joined the US Navy to serve his country and following his military service was employed for 33 years as a store manager at A & P Company and the Marsh Grocery Stores where he opened 3 new stores and worked in 8 different communities. Next he was employed for 7 years as the bookkeeper for Manix Brothers Construction Company and then 16 years as the Greenville City Treasurer, retiring in 2006. He was also a Member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville, a 72 year member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge and Antioch Shrine of Dayton. Also a member of the Greenville American Legion and Elks Lodge.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife B. Catherine (Michael) Sharp July 6, 2011. They were married July 3, 1936. Also sisters Edna Clark, Anna Mae Parsons and Helen Harter; brothers Charles, Major and Dain Sharp.

Gene is survived by a sister Mary Alice Redman of Greenville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral and Masonic Memorial Services, conducted by Pastor David Cummings and the Greenville Masonic Lodge, will be held at 2:00 PM Monday January 9, 2017 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday January 9, 2017 from 1:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home.

Arthur C. Francis age 65, of Frenchtown, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, in Macon, Georgia as the result of a traffic accident. Arthur was born January 21, 1952, in Willowdell, Ohio to the late Charles Leo & Louise K. (Bender) Francis.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Debbie (Elson) Francis whom he married August 24, 1979; children, Audrey L. Lutz of Covington, Mary L. Francis of Frenchtown and Charles T. Francis of Frenchtown; grandchildren, Michael T. Lutz of Covington and Gavin J. Lutz of Covington; sisters & brothers-in-law, Emma & Earl Dicke of New Bremen, Charlotte & James Rank of Huntingtown, Maryland, Becky & Larry Bruggeman of Maria Stein, Ida & Henry Spangler Sr. of Sidney, Henrietta Spaugy of Conover and Victoria Freisthler of Sidney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Arthur was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Grieshop.

Arthur served in the U.S. Army National Guard of Ohio. He was a truck driver for Drew Ag Transport in Greenville. Arthur was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown and the Versailles Knights of Columbus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Sylvia L. (Smith) Rice of Arcanum, Ohio, and formerly from Trotwood, Ohio, passed peacefully surrounded with family on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 5:00 PM at Kindred Healthcare, Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on October 21, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Earl and Sarah (Lentz) Smith.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Rice; son, Joel Rice; brothers; Bill, Gene, Lowell, Carl and Bob Smith; sisters; Marie Landis, Helen Shepard, Miriam Welsh.

She is survived by sons and daughter in law, Bob and Marilyn (Jones) Rice of Arcanum, OH, Dwane and Kim (Clingerman) Rice of Indianapolis, IN, and Aaron and Linda (Bates) Rice of Binghamton, NY; daughter in law and spouse, Sheri & Tim (Cress, Rice) Hicks of Greenville, OH; 14 grandchild, Sarah Shearer, Jason Rice, Joshua Rice, Andrea Netzley, Deborah Rice, Joel I. Rice, Nathan Rice, Julia Rice, Ethan Rice, Lauren Rice, Jeffrey Rice, Lindsey Rice and Zachary Newbold; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Myrna Smoot of Brookville, OH, Bonnie Cummings of Trotwood, OH, and Ellen Duke of West Manchester, OH; sister in law, Marilyn Smith of Brookville, OH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a homemaker and was a member of the Castine Church of the Brethren and Gideon’s Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and most of spending time with her family. She was a very good mother and had a services heart. She will be deeply missed by many.

There will be a service held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Castine Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Gary Cloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheelock Cemetery, West Milton, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at church. Kathleen (Swank) Rife Baker (December 31, 2016)

Kathleen (Swank) Rife Baker, age 94, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 10:25 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 23, 1922 in Muncie, Indiana, to the late H. Ray & Loretta (Bunger) Swank.

She is survived by her children, Jim & Lois Rife of Greenville and Pamela & Bruce Rhoades of Troy; step children, Philip D. Baker of Indianapolis, IN, and Doris J. & Don Yoder of Indiana; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis North of Greenville, Barbara Brewer of Greenville and Rev. George Swank of Goshen, IN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her first husband, Marion E. Rife; second husband, Denver Shirl Baker; and brothers, Harry Swank, Marvin Swank and Ray Swank Jr.

Kathleen work at Neff Lettering and was the Church Secretary. She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and volunteered at the Brethren Retirement Community for many years.

There will be a service held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Greenville Church of the Brethren, 421 Central Street, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. Burial will follow in the West Branch Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 2-5 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at church on Sunday.

Floyd (Bear) Pitsenbarger (January 2, 2017)

Floyd (Bear) Pitsenbarger, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 5, 1931, the third of five children in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Emma (Hauschild) Pitsenbarger. He married Janet L. Berger on April 24, 1954, and they had six children. Floyd is survived by his wife, son, Jeff and Linda Pitsenbarger of Versailles; daughters, Polly Jo of Fort Worth, TX, Julie and Rod Boring of Versailles, Mindy and Brian Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Patti and Clay Miller of New Baltimore, Michigan, and Peggi and Mark Richard of Versailles; and sisters, Dorthabel and Gene Fox of Englewood, Ohio, Evelyn and the late Merle Selander of Versailles, Phyllis and Jerry Oliver of Versailles, and Janet and Howard Rehmert of Versailles.

Bear was very proud of his family and his 20 grandchildren, Justin, Greta, Andy, Alex, Mark, Kami, Ashly, Kyle, Zac, Kara, Bailey, Jon, Roxanne, Maddison, Emily, Dominic, Damien, McKinzie, Cameron, and Noah. He also has 14 great-grandchildren: Harrison, Gavin, Cannon, Quintin, Callie, Finley, Beckett, Gabriel, Henry, William, Samuel, Cecilia, Meredith and three on the way to be born in 2017.

Floyd graduated from Versailles High School in 1949. He was member of the Ohio National Guard and was called to active duty in the U.S. Army in 1951 where he was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He served a total of three years and four active duty months. He was employed by the Poultry Producers from 1948 until it closed in 1974. He also worked at the Versailles High School, Argosy, Clopay and Excello. In 1979 he began working for Gene Meyer’s Trucking until he retired in 2005.

He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department from 1964 through 1978. He was a member of the Versailles F.O.E. and Vets Club. He also served on the Versailles Village Council from 1965-1969.

Floyd enjoyed living in Versailles and visiting will all of his friends at local sporting events and restaurants as well as his frequent leisurely travels about town. Floyd also enjoyed his 85th birthday this past October with his family and friends celebrating at the Sweet Shop at 4:30 AM!—his favorite time of day.

Floyd was preceded in death by his grandson, Zac Richard, who was born on January 2. Floyd joined him in heaven on Zac’s birthday.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6th, 2017, at Bailey-Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Martin Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Visitations for family and friends will be from 4-8:00 pm on Thursday, January 5th, 2017. Richard J."Dick" Mayo (January 1, 2017)

Richard J."Dick" Mayo, 80, formerly of Ansonia went home to the Lord, Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Versailles Health Care Center.

He was born February 23, 1936 in Osgood, Ohio, a son to the late Ralph Francis and Marjorie Catherine (Bohman) Mayo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon L. Mayo who passed on December 10, 2016; and a brother, Ralph Mayo, Jr.

Dick married his Homecoming Queen, Sharon, on May 24, 1958 and enjoyed 58 loving years together. He enjoyed restoring tractors and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Lisa) Mayo, Randy (Tracy) Mayo, Eugene (Denise) Mayo and Carol (Wes) Davis; twelve grandchildren, Brandon Mayo, Patrick (Jamie) Mayo, Sara Mayo, Rick (Lauren) Mayo, Stephanie Mayo, Jeff Mayo, Sydney Davis, Jennifer Mayo, Collin Mayo, Nick Mayo, Mark Mayo and Seth Davis; one great grandson, Joseph Grilliot; brother Ron (Rita) Mayo; sisters, Patricia (Robert) Epperly and Sharon (Bill) Haas; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:30 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star, OH with Fr. David Zink officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Family and Friends may visit on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.
