George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn C. (Yagle) Gigandet whom he married February 22, 1958; children, Sharon L. & Tim Barga of Versailles, Bruce Gigandet of Dayton and Tom & Mindy Gigandet of Versailles; grandchildren, Adam & Katie Barga, Shanan Barga, Courtney & Wes Drees, Zach Barlage and Josh Barlage; great-grandchildren, Arian, Ace and Archie Drees; sisters & brothers-in-law, Shelia & Jim Didier of Versailles and Karon & Lyle Crowell of Versailles; sister-in-law, Myrna Gigandet of Versailles; brother-in-law, Don Yagle of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Norman and Jerry Gigandet; sisters-in-law, Dortha Drake, Edith Richhart, Mary Emma Wright, Ruby Yagle, Nancy Yagle and Joan Gigandet; brothers-in-law, Bill Yagle, Sam Yagle, Forest Drake and Jack Richhart.
George retired from Versailles Schools where he was a custodian and bus driver. George also farmed with Tim Rhoades for 11 years. George was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and a Golden Eagle member of the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2347.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Bob Bitner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
