PHYLLIS ANN (HUFNAGLE) MONG (April 18th, 2020)

PHYLLIS ANN (HUFNAGLE) MONG

It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of our Mother, Phyllis Ann (Hufnagle) Mong, having passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18th, 2020. She was 87 years old.

She was born on August 26th, 1932, in Greenville, Ohio to her parents, Aileen (Anderson) Hufnagle and Ernest R. Hufnagle. (Former Chief of Police in Greenville)

Phyllis grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School in 1950, married Theodore L. Mong on August 8th, 1952 and in January 1957, the twins (Debbie and Don) were born.

Residing in Greenville her entire life, except for the 4 years she lived in Athens, Ohio (1976-1978) and in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1978-1980), she returned to her beloved Greenville upon arriving back in the Unites States.

She was preceded in death by her Father in 1967, her Mother in 2001, and her Husband, Ted in 2008, her Sister-in-Law, Delores (Mong) Wright and Husband Howard (Howdy) Wright, of Union City, Ohio, Brother-in-Law Jack Mong and Wife Patty (Campbell) Mong of Pitsburg, Ohio. Family members Troy Mong, Earl Howell, William Mong, Cade Hill and Shawn Howell preceded her in death as well.

Phyllis is survived by her Sister, Jane (Hufnagle) Hovorka and Husband Jim Hovorka from Centerville, Ohio, her Daughter Debra A. (Mong) Bullington and Husband, Phillip L. Bullington of Rutland, Ohio, her Son Donald L. Mong and Sherry (Brickler) Mong of East Greenwich, Rhode Island.

She is also survived by her Grandchildren Lark (Zachary) Wessel, Adam (Courtney) Bullington, Ian Bullington and Derrick (Bethany) Mong, her Great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jace, Kade Logan, Zoey, Ellie and Johnathan. Also, many Nieces and Nephews and her special friends Mary Mitchell, Lelah Shoop and Hala Knapke at Unique's, Katie Clark Gabbard at The Ivy League and the whole Seiler Family and all her good friends at Wieland's Jewelry Store.

Barry Wayne Argo (April 20, 2020)

Barry Wayne Argo, 69, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away in the early hours of Monday, April 20, 2020, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born on June 17, 1950, in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Floyd and Geneva (Hittle) Argo.

In addition to his parents, Barry is preceded in death by his brother, Martin Argo.

Barry was a 1968 graduate of Northmont High School. Following graduation, Barry enlisted into the United States Navy and served on board the USS Shreveport and achieved the rank of Boatswain's Mate Aircraft Handler Petty Officer 3rd Class. After four years of active duty service, he spent two years in the reserves. Following his military service, Barry started working for Corning, retiring after 28 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping.

Barry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth (Snyder) Argo, whom he married on June 25, 1977; his children, Donna Argo of Covington, Ohio, and Cheryl Argo-Sosa and her husband, Jorge, of Dayton; his grandson, Valen Sosa.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will take place at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 24, 2020, at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

A public visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. Please remain in your car until a funeral home team member releases you. Only one group of guests will be allowed in the funeral home at a time. Your patience is appreciated.

Thomas George Stucke (April 19, 2020)

Thomas George Stucke, 81, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Versailles Health and Rehab in Versailles.

He was born on February 22, 1939, in rural Mercer County to the late Henry and Hilda (Schweiterman) Stucke.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by son, Nathan Stucke, and his brothers, Gerald, Robert, and Ronald Stucke.

Thomas was a simple man with few words. He loved his family and taught by example. Thomas spent his life farming. After he “retired”, it was not uncommon to find him driving through the countryside checking on crops and watching others farm. Like most farmers, Thomas was always checking the weather and his watch. Thomas was a member and past president of the Ohio Potato Growers Association. Recently, Thomas and his wife, Connie, were snowbirds and enjoyed the warm weather in Florida. He and his wife spent many years attending St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star until they moved to Greenville where they now are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie (Luebke) Stucke, whom he married on February 8, 1961; his son’s, David Stucke and his wife, Karen, of St. Henry, Ohio, Todd Stucke and his wife, Kathy, of Westlake, Texas, Michael Stucke and his wife, Melissa, of Tipp City, Ohio, Chad Stucke and his wife, Cindy, of New Albany, Ohio, and Jason Stucke of Greenville; his grandchildren, Abigail Hufford and her husband, Clint, Kayla Stucke, Breanna Lawson and her husband, Dan, Benjamin Stucke, Macy and Jack Stucke, Alex Stucke, and Matthew and Patrick Stucke; his 4 great grandchildren; and his sisters, Ester Eiting and Cheryl Braun.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a private funeral service will take place at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Deacon Thomas Graber officiating.

A public graveside service will take place on April 22, 2020, at 11:30 A.M. at St. Louis Cemetery in North Star. Social distancing guidelines will be observed.

A public memorial Mass will take place later this summer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Eleanor Louise Schley (April 18, 2020)

Eleanor Louise Schley, 79, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away, peacefully, early Saturday, April 18, 2020, at her home.

She was born on March 30, 1941, in Grayson, Kentucky, to the late Harry C. and Virgie (Davis) Shearer.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her daughter, Terri L. Dreffer, and her brother, Harry B. Shearer.

Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville.

Louise is survived by her husband, Loren Schley, whom she married on May 25, 1974; her children, Tony Schley and his wife, Kelly, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Jennifer Fleagle and her husband, Mark, of New Madison; her grandchildren, Kadence, Ashlynn, and Cheyene Fleagle, all of New Madison, and Alexis Dreffer of Mayfield Heights, Ohio; her step-grandchildren, Marcus Fleagle and his wife, Lacole, of Richmond, Indiana, Brandi Blackwell and her husband, Josh, of Centerville, Indiana, Bradonia Napier and her husband, Josh, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Kirsten Lipscomb of Richmond, Indiana, and Logan McNulty of Upper Sandusky; her five great grandchildren; her sisters, Mollie Jean Brinson and her husband, Vernon, and Sandy Leightey and her husband, Howard Junior, all of Upper Sandusky; her sister-in-law, Irma Shearer of Upper Sandusky; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a public celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Lowell Evan Elsass (April 15, 2020)

Lowell Evan Elsass, age 57 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 4:50 AM Wednesday April 15, 2020 at the Greenville Health & Rehab Center of Greenville. Lowell was born February 4, 1963 in Willard, Ohio and the son of the late Lee and Barbara (Wilt) Elsass.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Lorri E. Shoop in 2014.

Lowell is survived by his brother Larry Elsass of Pembroke Pines, Florida, brother-in-law Jeff Shoop of Greenville, nephew Dirk Shoop and nieces Krystin Elsass, Lyndsey Elsass and Conner Elsass.

Lisa Ann Paul age 53, of Greenville passed away at 8:09 PM on Monday, April 13, 2020, at her residence.

Lisa was born May 16, 1966, in Greenville to the late Raymond & Linda (Swank) Deeter. In addition to her parents, Lisa was also preceded in death by her husband, Steven Terry Paul.

Lisa is survived by her children, Cody Paul, Christopher & Allie Paul and Summer & Butch Myers; grandchildren, Kyleigh Paul, Stella Paul, Piper Myers, Harmony Myers, Lillian Paul, Selah Myers and Sir-iah Myers; and a very special friend, Kathy Graham.

Shirley V. Cline (April 9, 2020)

Shirley V. Cline, 45 of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Thursday April 9, 2020 at 5:20 PM at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born April 21, 1974 in Greenville, Ohio the daughter of Christine (Hosbrook) Delaney of Greenville and the late David J. Delaney Sr.

Shirley was a homemaker and she loved photography.

She is preceded in death by her father her grandfather: Basil Hosbrook; and her aunt: Gloria Coulter.

She is survived by her mother; her husband: Ev Cline her children: Austin & Amber Hosbrook, Aaron Cline & fiancé Chloe, Madison Cline; her granddaughter: Harmony Hosbrook; her grandmother: Theresa Hosbrook; her siblings: David Delaney Jr., Tammy & Eric Hittle, Robert & Joyce Delaney, & Robin & Jerry Kaufhold; her mother in law: Gail Cline; her in laws: Josh & Bonnie Cline & Tammy Cline & Fiancé AJ; and numerous aunts, uncles,nieces, nephews & cousins.

James Allen Foreman (April 11, 2020)

James Allen Foreman, 86, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020, at Reid Health in Richmond, Indiana.

He was born June 28, 1933, near Eaton, Ohio, to the late Virgil and Marie (Crout) Foreman.

Jim spent his life farming and taught his family the value of a strong work ethic. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities and loved to golf, play cards and watch westerns on television. Upon retiring from farming, he worked part-time at Tri-Village Schools and assisted with the Harrison Township Trustees. Jim was a graduate of Hollansburg High School and served in the U.S. Army following graduation. He was a member of the American Legion LaRoy Farst Post #245.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen (Delmer) Unum, Reva (James) Poling, and Margaret (Charles) Hoffman; brother Charles Foreman, brothers-in-law Duane Hiatt and Stanley Jenkins; and an infant sister, Vera.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty (Wolfe) Foreman, whom he married on February 15, 1957; his children, Kim (Dave) Brewer of Palestine, Tami (Scott) Brewer of Palestine, James (Tammy) Foreman Jr. of New Madison, Peggy (Willard) Fisherback of New Madison, and Scott (Connie) Foreman of New Madison; his grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Farmer, Jason (Amanda) Brewer, Chris (Mattie) Brewer, Holly (Andrew) Holtzman, Ashley Brewer, Josh (Kayla) Fisherback, Brittani (TJ) Hines, Daniel (Kendra) Foreman, Kassie (Travis) Presler, Heidi (Matt) Sanders, Brett (Jen) Foreman, Alexa (Dillon) Hesson, and Madison Foreman; his 28 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy Hiatt and Patty Jenkins; his sister-in-law, Barbara Foreman; his special friend Robert (Brenda) Carr; and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Sandra "Sandy" K. McFarland (April 8, 2020)

Sandra "Sandy" K. McFarland, 63, of Greenville, Ohio, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt was called to her final resting place, peacefully, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, while under hospice care.

She was born on May 20, 1956, in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Jerry and Mary (Kaup) Hoying.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by Ralph Kaup and her sister-in-law, Cindy Hoying.

Sandy was kind, courageous and sincere. If you knew her she never left home without her Oakley sunglasses, whether sunny or cloudy, indoors or out. She is survived by her husband, Charlie, with whom she enjoyed lodging in Gatlinburg, attending car shows, fishing and taking rides in their 1951 Chevy, "the Silver Queen," as she called it.

Sandy was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing, but beautiful memories. She is survived by her husband, Charlie McFarland; her daughters, Mandi (Chad) Dillow of Troy, Ohio and Jami Pierce of Knoxville, Tennessee; her brothers, Jack (Sherry) Hoying, Bob (Joan) Hoying, Jim Hoying, Fred (Sharon) Hoying, and Randy Hoying; her sister, Sharon (Bill) Westfall; her stepchildren, Amy McFarland (Brad Smith), Brian (Holly) McFarland and John (Brittany) McFarland; as well as eight grandchildren and several grandpups - who loved their Granny dearly.

William Joseph Farrell (April 10, 2020)

William Joseph Farrell, 92 of Greenville, went to be with his Lord at 9:30 AM on April 10, 2020 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

William was born on September 13, 1927 to the late Thomas Franklin Farrell and Marie (Hanekamp) Farrell in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by wife Georgia (Ross) Farrell, Edna (Detrick) Farrell and companion Ida Duebner, his brothers James and Thomas Farrell and sister Marian (Farrell) Gall and daughter in law Cynthia (Bryer) Farrell.

William is survived by his son Thomas (Janet) Farrell and daughter Vicki (Marvin) Wilson, step children Barb (Richard) Hocker, Paul (Kathy) Detrick, Steve (Suzanne) Detrick, Jerry Detrick, grandchildren Vanessa (Aaron) Larkins, Thomas I Farrell and Ivan K. Farrell, great-grandsons Owen and Blake Larkins, brother and sister-in-law Frank (Pat) Farrell, sister Eleanor Haubach, sister-in-law’s Carolyn (Larry) Baumgardner and Margaret Evelyn (Edward) Check and brother-in-law James Arthur Ross Jr.

William worked at Tait Manufacturing prior to being elected President of IUE Local 768. In addition to being Local 768 President, he also served on the Dayton-Miami Valley AFL-CIO Regional Labor Council. He was very proud of his role in the labor movement.

His favorite hobby was collecting and restoring classic cars. He was a founding member of the Tri-State Studebaker Drivers Club. William was a member of several card clubs; he loved playing Euchre and Texas Holdem. He had a very outgoing personality and never knew a stranger.

Nancy JoAnn Doughman (April 1, 2020)

Nancy JoAnn Doughman, age 79 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully at 5:15 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Resthaven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. Born on March 28, 1941 in Springfield, Ohio, she was a daughter to the late Roger F. & Katherine L. (Lantz) Doughman. Nancy enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians baseball games, and Equine shows on TV. She is preceded in death by her parents: Son Terry Lee Doughman: Aunts Grace Barger; Orpha Lantz-Reed.

She is survived by siblings Ronny, Jim, Carl, Kenny, Tommy, Dean, John, Mike and Dwight Doughman; Mary Holloway: as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Marilyn "Joan" (Bucholtz) Williams (April 8, 2020)

Marilyn "Joan" (Bucholtz) Williams, age 87 formerly of Franklin Township and most recently of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 10:15 AM Wednesday April 8, 2020 at the Brethren Retirement Community of Greenville. Joan was born March 13, 1933 in Bradford, Ohio and the daughter of the late John and Grace (West) Bucholtz.

She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, a real estate saleslady for Paul Clark Realty and enjoyed sewing and cooking. Also, Joan was a member of the West Grove United Church of Christ. She was a 1951 graduate of Franklin High School, and a writer for the Greenville Daily Advocate, Piqua Daily Call and the Early Bird.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Williams May 1, 1978. They were married in 1959. Also her brother Dale Bucholtz and sisters Arlene (Bucholtz) Kerr and Thelma (Bucholtz) Rhoades.

Joan is survived by her children Barbara Long of Huntsville, AL., Judy (Donald) Koogler of Greenville, John (Dana) Williams of Greenville and Brian (Brenda) Williams of Troy; grandchildren Richard Long, Matthew Williams, Elisabeth Williams, Riley Williams and Parker Williams as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Private Graveside Service at the convenience of the family will be held at the Gettysburg Cemetery Gettysburg, Ohio with Pastor Don Smith officiating. There will be no visitation but a Public Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the Franklin Monroe FFA in care of John Williams and mailed to the Franklin Monroe High School 8591 Oakes Road, Arcanum, Ohio, 45304.

Joshua “Josh” T. Macias (April 5, 2020)

Joshua “Josh” T. Macias, 29, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, April 5, 2020, in Versailles.

He was born on December 12, 1990, in Greenville, Ohio, to Michelle Minor of Richmond, Indiana and Thomas Macias of Sidney, Ohio.

Josh was preceded in death by his grandmother, Linda Bain; his grandfather, Luis Macias; and his great grandparents, Robert and Edythe Cline and Guadalupe and Josephine Macias.

Josh was a 2009 graduate of Greenville High School. He has spent the last several years working as a molder at the Foundry in Russia, Ohio. Josh loved sports, especially soccer. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hiking, and riding his bike, scooter, and his hoverboard. He was a hard worker and a loving person. Josh was dedicated to the things he enjoyed and gave it his best.

In addition to his parents, Josh is survived by his step-father, Marcus Minor of Richmond; his girlfriend, Casey Ellis of Versailles; his children, Addysan, Grayson, and Harmony; his siblings, Jordan Macias and Sarah Snowden and several other brothers and sisters; his grandfather, John Bain and his wife, Darlene; his several aunts and uncles, especially, Lisa Hileman and her husband, Ron, and Jody Hocker and her husband, Rick, all of Greenville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a private family service will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery.

Carol Jean Wehr (April 6, 2020)

Carol Jean Wehr age 81, of Greenville passed away at 3:19 AM on Monday, April 6, 2020, at Greenville Health & Rehab.

Jean was born July 6, 1938, in Darke County to the late Carl & Rosella (Delaplane) Blumenstock. In addition to her parents, Jean was also preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis Henninger and Mary Lou Cole; brother, Robert Blumenstock; and nephew, Johnny Henninger.

Jean is survived by her children, Sharon Kay & Mark Brandt of Columbus, Lynda D. Jennings of Greenville and Nancy A. Wehr of Greenville; grandchildren, Amber Rose Jennings and Jonathan Mann; brother & sister-in-law, Dwaine & Betty Blumenstock of Rochester, Minnesota; sister & brother-in-law, Ruth & Don Kepler of Pitsburg; sister-in-law, Marie Blumenstock of Zanesville; brothers-in-law, John Cole of Dayton and Von Henninger of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was a former nurse’s aide at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. She enjoyed playing euchre, BINGO and doing word searches.

Gail D Weaver (April 5, 2020)

Gail D Weaver, age 65, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 10:35 AM Sunday April 5, 2020, at Greenville Health and Rehabilitation in Greenville. Gail was born December 12, 1954 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Dalton and Helen (Hatfield) Weaver.

Gail enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and working out in the yard. He also had a great love of sports and enjoyed watching THE OHIO STATE Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals win a game every once in a while, Who Dey! His favorite past time was coaching his son Chris and his friends in Pee Wee Football, where he played an active role as VP. Sports were a big part of his life for many years and he very much supporting Chris in many sporting activities. Gail participated in track & field and football at Greenville Senior High School, where he graduated in 1973. Gail very much enjoyed late 60’s, early 70’s Camaro’s, and Corvettes. He also loved to be outside doing yard work, playing with the dogs Butch and Tucker, and spending time with his “Sugar Cookie” Carolyn. He spent most of his career working at Kal Plastics (United Technologies) for 12 years in Greenville and Copperweld in Piqua for 18 years.

Gail is survived by his significant other, Carolyn J Harmon of Greenville, son and significant other, Chris J Weaver and Brittany Kemper of Greenville, stepdaughters Jennifer Kimmel and Husband Aaron Kimmel of Greenville, Crystal Wegley and Husband Travis Wegley of Vandalia, stepson John Harmon and Wife Kristina Harmon of Greenville. Grandchildren, Hannah Weaver, Aidric Weaver and Dylan Stump. Joseph Alfred “Joe” Mamazza, Jr., age 57 of Ansonia, Ohio passed away suddenly at 4:30 PM on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his home. Born in Greenville, Ohio on May 7, 1962 to the late Joseph A. Mamazza, Sr. & Anne M. (Patterson) Swabb. Joe loved the outdoors, and getting his “wind therapy” on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and going on vacations. Shirley A. Ford (April 4, 2020)

Shirley A. Ford, age 81 of Greenville, Ohio died in the early morning on April 4, 2020 at Resthaven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio; she had been in failing health for the past 2 years, and passed away from cancer and other health issues. Born August 13, 1938 in Union City, Indiana to Mary Catherine (Yoder) Melia & Estil Roth. She worked at Fairlawn Steak House in Greenville as a cook for many years. Also, at Lambert’s in Ansonia and Hines Bowling Alley in Greenville also as a cook. Later she worked at Heartland Nursing Home in Greenville as a nurse’s aide and later as a housekeeper, retiring after 26 years there. Preceding her in death were her parents: daughter Susan M. Yount: sisters Betty Jordan; Margaret Grile: half- brother Ron Hines: nephew Bucky Grile: husband’s Delbert Yount; David Weitemier; Lloyd Fort; Christopher Ford.

Shirley was a lifelong member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and was baptized in 1965. She loved to read and study the bible. She also loved her spiritual family at the Kingdom Hall. Above all, she believed in the resurrection hope and the hope that the bible talks about for the dead to be brought back to life on a paradise earth that helped to sustain her in her last days.

She was a hard-working, strong, dependable and generous woman, and would give you the shirt off her back. Shirley loved animals, and gave to several animal charities over the years. She loved feeding her outside birds, flowers, country music and TV westerns. Also, on occasional glass of champagne, and “vanilla frosties”, She was an amazing cook, and provided great meals to her family over the years. In her 70’s she wrote her autobiography for her kids.

Shirley grew up on a farm and really enjoyed the farm life. She drove John Deere tractors, and when about 10 years old she pulled her sister, Carol Sue from quick sand on the farm with the tractor and saved her life, all by herself!

She loved the Darke County Fair since childhood, and never missed a year. She camped out at the fairgrounds for over 26 years; she became a very skilled camper. She would also take her scooter and load her dog “Babe” on the front of it and cruise the fairgrounds during off times at fair, they both had a blast, and the Early Bird once took their picture. She loved to fish, backpack, and took many trips to Canada, West Virginia and Michigan with her second husband.

She lived a full life, she was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, services for Shirley are to be private and conducted by Elder Kirby Goff. Burial to follow at Ft. Jefferson Oakgrove cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Robert Edward Smith (April 4, 2020)

Robert Edward Smith, age 85 of Troy, Ohio passed away at 8:20 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at Troy Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Born in Greenville, Ohio on July 23, 1934 to the late Carl G. Smith & Lora I. (Dininger) Smith. Robert was a truck driver and hauled dairy and hay, and also heavy equipment for Champion Papers. He loved to hunt and fish, and was very good at archery. He won many trophies over the years for his archery skills. After serving in the United States Marine Corp he lived in Oregon until moving back to Ohio in 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents: wife Mariam “Mary” Smith: brother Richard Smith: a sister in infancy: and his son Jonathon Smith in infancy.

Survived by his siblings Don & Kim Smith; Ronald & Betty Smith; Barb & Jim Hocker; Shirley & Larry Becker; Judy Force: cousin Donna Miller: many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Mary Catherine Bullard, age 74 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 4, 2020 at her home. Born in Greenville, Ohio on August 22, 1945 she was one of 5 children to the late David O. & Emma M. (Byrne) Pretzman. Mary had previously worked for Weaver Brother’s in Versailles, Ohio. She was a member of the Greenville Moose Lodge #329. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards with her family, and trying her luck with scratch-off lottery tickets. She will be missed deeply. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters Evelyn L. Bailey; Helen Staver; Barbara L. Camp.

Mary is survived by her children Melissa J. Apple (Rob); David W. Bullard (Peggy); Sue Beane (Tom): sister Sue Mullins: brother David O. Roman Gabriel Smith (April 2, 2020)

Roman Gabriel Smith, 47, of Tipp City passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020 at his Tipp City home after a 2½ year battle with cancer. He was born June 4, 1972 in Greenville. He married his high school sweetheart, Tina Durnell, nearly 24 years ago on May 25, 1996.

Survivors include his two sons Peyton, attending University of Cincinnati, Caiden, attending Urbana University, and his daughter, Kenna, a junior at Tippecanoe High School; his father and mother, Jeffrey Smith (Nellie), and Holly Tryon of Greenville; father and mother in law, Robert and Marcia Durnell (Layman) of The Villages, Florida; a brother Derek Smith (Amy) of Greenville, a brother in law Shawn Durnell (Christine) of Casselberry, Florida.

Roman grew up in Greenville, Ohio, was a 1990 graduate of Greenville High School, continued his education, and graduated from Bowling Green University in 1995. He and his family lived in Orlando, Florida and Tipp City, Ohio. In high school, Roman’s love for sports started as a member of the baseball and soccer teams and then continued as a coach for many of his children’s teams. He was an avid supporter of the Tipp City athletic program.

Roman worked for the past 12 years for Freshway Foods of Sidney as the Director of Procurement. As a graduate of United Fresh Leadership Program and Cornell Executive Leadership, Roman was respected across the nation as a leader in the area of fresh produce. As a loving father and husband, Roman enjoyed spending his leisure time with his family at various sporting events, cruises, and for many years, being at the family’s lake property and boating on Brookville Lake.

Roman attended Ginghamsburg Church and as a believer, his faith was evident in all aspects of his life. He always put family first and instilled his faith in them. From nightly cross-country prayers while traveling to Sunday’s at home with his family; he never missed a chance to be a positive influence.

A Celebration of Life is tentatively scheduled for June 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Ginghamsburg Church 6759 South County Road 25A, Tipp City, Ohio with pastor Rachel Billups officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Romans’ family to set up a trust for his children. Leroy Eugene Murphy, age 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:35 AM on Friday April 3, 2020 at Greenville Health and Rehab in Greenville, Ohio. Born in New Lebanon, Ohio on April 14, 1934 he was one of 4 children to the late Howard & Ruth (Brown) Murphy. Leroy retired from Dayton Power & Light, and was the proud owner of “Murph’s Coins” in Greenville, Ohio. He loved collecting coins, was a member of the Darke County Coin Club, and enjoyed going to car shows. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Murphy: son Leroy Murphy, Jr.: granddaughter Kerri Murphy: brothers Charlie Murphy; Robert “Bob” Murphy: sister Mable Hunt.

Ronald E. Coates age 80, of Troy passed away at 1:05 AM on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Greenville Health & Rehab.

Ronald was born December 30, 1939 in North Star to the late Donald & Rhea (Carnahan) Coates. In addition to his parents, Ronald was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Coates.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joann L. (Billenstein) Coates; children, Michael E. Coates of Piqua, Sandra K. & Darin Bushnell of Clyde Park, Montana and David A. & Julie Coates of Huntington, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jessica Coates, Melissa Coates and Cameron Coates; great-grandchild, Ariana Coates; siblings, Beverly & Jim Marker of Bradford, Kenneth & Ona Coates of Greenville and Jane Smith of Troy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald worked in the automotive repair industry.

Michael "Mike" Ray Wert (March 30, 2020)

Michael "Mike" Ray Wert, 72, of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020, at his home.

He was born on June 3, 1947, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Warren and Doris (Fourman) Wert.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Diane Wert.

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Franklin Monroe High School. He was a fuel truck driver for Earhart Petroleum for almost 35 years. When he wasn't working, he had a short list of activities you could find him doing. He was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan. He had attended several races in venues such as Bristol Motor Speedway and Talladega Speedway. When the weather was nice, he enjoyed taking care of his yard.

Mike is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn (Nill) Wert, whom he married on June 1, 1968; his children, Chad Wert and Scott Wert, both of Arcanum, Ohio; his granddaughter, Keisha Wert, and her fiancé, Austin White, of Greenville; his sister, Linda Altic and her husband, Larry, of Fayetteville, Georgia; and his beloved beagle, Billy.

The family has entrusted Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with the arrangements.

Farrell Eileen Beam, 96, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at SpringMeade Health Center in Tipp City.

She was born on February 2, 1924, in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Lester and Ruth (Neibert) Delk.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Beam; her son, Robert Lavy; and her brothers, Kenny and Jim Delk.

Farrell retired from FRAM in Greenville with over 30 years of service.

Mavis Betty Garrett, age 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, March 27, 2020 at 9:45 AM at her granddaughter’s home. Born in Cambridge, England on February 14, 1934 she was one of 3 children born to the late John W. & Rose (Hunns) Pratt. Mavis retired after working many years at the FRAM Corporation as the Timekeeper Supervisor. She was a member of the Greenville Missionary Church. Mavis enjoyed playing piano, knitting, and cooking big dinners for her family. Above all, she loved her family more than anything. She will be forever missed. Carl Joseph “Mo” Moorman age 84, of Versailles passed away on Monday March 30, 2020, at his residence. He was born on August 27, 1935, to Clarence & Bertha (Warner) Moorman of Russia, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Karla Jo Borges, brother, Robert (Dorothy) Moorman of Russia, Ohio, sister, Margie (George) Blandford of Dayton, Ohio, and infant brother, Carl Frances Moorman. Carl is survived by his brother, Edgar & Peg (decs.) Moorman of Dayton, Ohio, wife of 59 years, Virginia (Frantz) Moorman, daughter, Karen (John) Berning, son, Ken & Jill (Ware) Moorman, son, Keith & Rhonda (Ruchty) Moorman all of Versailles, son-in-law, Tony Borges of St. Henry, Ohio. Retiring after 38 years at Hobart Corp. in Troy, Ohio, Carl enjoyed driving for Moody Auto Sales in Ansonia, Ohio. He was an US Army veteran, and a founding member of the Versailles “tree commission”.

Carl Lee “Tuffy” Humerick (March 30, 2020)

Carl Lee “Tuffy” Humerick, age 75 of Greenville, Ohio passed away suddenly at 12:05 AM on Sunday, March 30, 2020 at Greenville Health and Rehab in Greenville, Ohio. Born in Dayton, Ohio on April 2, 1944 he was one of seven children to the late John & Alleah (Cantrell) Humerick. Tuffy loved to eat and play games, especially with all of the wonderful ladies from the nursing home. He will truly be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, and numerous siblings.

Charles Joseph “Pewee” McEldowney age 84, of Versailles passed away peacefully to be with the Lord at 1:45 AM on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born June 22, 1935, in Frenchtown to the late Alvin & Leoma (George) McEldowney. In addition to his parents, Charles is also preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Curtis McEldowney; and sister, Mary Knick.

Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty (Butt) McEldowney; daughters, Susan (Mike) Ballinger, Charlene (Tom) Michael, Christine (Jeff) Leistner, Christina Brokschmidt, Kathy Meyer, Rose Hurley, Barb Fraley, Connie Stanfield; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.

Charles served in the U.S. Army. He was a contractor for over 40 years in Sheet metal Fabrication. Charles was known for his love of the outdoors. He spent his time fishing, hunting and boating on the lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed reading and cooking, especially his family fish fry’s.

Lathrop-Patricia “Lynn” Lathrop, age 63, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday March 20, 2020, at her residence. Lynn was born on February 7, 1957 in Richmond, Indiana as the oldest of five children, to Pat (Keith) Hall of Greenville, Ohio and Roy Lathrop of Los Angeles, CA.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her three sisters, Evonna (Mike) Arnold of Huron, SD, Kimberlie (Mike) Howard of Greenville and Sonya (Phil) Reier of Greenville and one brother, Allen (Erica) Lathrop of Los Angeles, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynn graduated from National Trail High School in New Paris, Ohio in 1975. She worked most of her life in the dietary department as a cook, first at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, IN, then in nursing homes. Lynn never married, but loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and listening to music, especially the “Oldies”

Janet Fay Strickler, 80, of Eaton, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton.

She was born on January 25, 1940, and was the third child of the late Harmon Eugene Strickler and Margaret Amanda (Longanecker) Strickler of Castine, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by an older sister, Phyllis Jean Strickler of Greenville.

Janet was an active member of the Ithaca Open Bible Church for over 60 years and loved planting flower gardens both at the church and at her home. She loved to crochet and knitted hundreds of hats for needy children.

She is survived by two sisters, Emma Joyce (Strickler) Maglott of Kettering, Ohio, and Patsy Ruth (Strickler) Whye of Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania; and one brother Charles Russell Strickler of Castine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service at Castine Cemetery, conducted by Reverend David Fox, pastor of the Ithaca Open Bible Church, will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 30, 2020.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison campus.

Donald H. “Buster” Meade (March 24, 2020)

Donald H. “Buster” Meade age 73, of Greenville passed away at 11:16 PM on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

Buster was born February 23, 1947, in Greenville to the late Marion & Mary (Shurte) Meade. In addition to his parents, Buster was also preceded in death by his grandparents; 5 grandchildren; and several siblings.

Buster is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie S. Meade; children, Annetta (Kirk) Clark of Castine, Brian (Tonia) Meade of Greenville, Doug (Amy) Meade of Greenville, Donald Meade of Greenville, Brad (Betty) Meade of Greenville and Nicholas (Misty) Meade of Versailles; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marvin (Debbie) Meade of Dayton, Richard Meade of Greenville, Robert Meade of Greenville and Carol (Dave) Acker of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Buster enjoyed watching TV and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed being outside gardening and taking walks. Buster retired from Union City Body Company where he worked for 20 years.

A celebration on Buster’s life will be held at a later date. Due to the current conditions of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the family will be having a private visitation. Tracy Lynn Flynn (March 22, 2020)

Tracy Lynn Flynn age 50, of Greenville passed away at 7:42 PM on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at her residence.

Tracy was born April 6, 1969, in Greenville to Wyonda Jeanne Riddle Hufnagle of Greenville and Joseph & Bonnie Hufnagle of Florida. In addition to her parents, Tracy is also survived by her children, Ruby Flynn of Medway and Martin Flynn of Killeen, Texas; brother, Shawn Hufnagle of Alliance, Ohio; sister, Lisa Mowen of Yorkshire, Ohio; special friend, Kasey Beaucamp of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tracy was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hufnagle.

Anna Lee Shuttleworth (March 23, 2020)

Anna Lee Shuttleworth, age 94 of Greenville, Ohio passes away at 7:14 PM Monday March 23, 2020 at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. Anna was born April 6, 1925 in Neave Township Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Ralph and Blanche (Hittle) Armstrong.

She was retired from Neff Lettering of Greenville. Anna was also a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren, a volunteer at the Brethren Retirement Center for close to 30 years, the Home Extension Club, Red Hat Club of Greenville, Annie Oakley Camping Club and an Alumnus of the Greenville Class of 1925. She was an avid quilter and seamstress and loved making quilts for her family. In addition, was an avid Darke County Fair fan, loved to travel and camp and was the prop/flag designer for the Fort Recovery High School Marching Band.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lowell D. Shuttleworth in 1996 and a daughter Joanie Shuttleworth.

Anna is survived by her daughter Sue Shuttleworth of Greenville and son and daughter-in-law Ted and Sue Ann (Blackwell) Shuttleworth also of Greenville; grandchildren Katie (Shuttleworth) and husband Pat Gerber and David and wife Kari (Brockman) Shuttleworth; great grandchildren Hannah Gerber, Aubrey Shuttleworth, James Shuttleworth, Adaley Shuttleworth and Jacob Shuttleworth; brother Joe Armstrong of Greenville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to the current conditions of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the family will be having a Private Service in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. Visitation will be private as well.

Grace Elizabeth Bietry (March 18, 2020)

Grace Elizabeth Bietry, 88, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville, Ohio.

She was born in Hollansburg on December 06, 1931, to the late Carl and Alice (Sasser) Fellers.

In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bietry in 1987; her children, Joseph Bietry in 1999, Mary Bietry in 2008, and David Bietry in 2017; her sister, Ruth Evans; and her brother, Fred Fellers.

Grace was a 1949 graduate of Hollansburg Local High School. Grace had many passions and hobbies. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and word searches. She also loved gardening, canning, making jelly, and her flower beds. Grave spent many years working for Thrift Drug Store.

Grace is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Bietry of Richmond, Indiana, and Kevin Bietry and his wife, Aimee, of Georgia; her two great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Connie Bietry of New Paris, Ohio; and her 2nd cousin, Scott Richards and his wife, Joyce, of Greenville.

A Celebration of Grace's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at Tribute Funeral Homes, New Madison Campus, with Pastor Tracy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery.

Grace's family will be receiving guests on Wednesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM.

Neil E. Isch (March 20, 2020)

Neil E. Isch, age 71 of Greenville, Ohio died peacefully at his home at 8:28 AM Friday March 20, 2020. Neil was born March 21, 1948 in Norwalk, Ohio and the son of the late Rev. Fred C. and Dorothy H. (Kniss) Isch Sr.

He was retired from the former Corning Inc. of Greenville beginning employment there in 1971. Also a member of the Ansonia First Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Brother Fred Isch Jr and Sister Donna Jean Isch.

Neil is survived by his wife Nancy (Durr) Isch of Greenville. They were married November 10, 1967. Also daughter Michelle (Bob) Miller of Greenville; grandchildren Addison (Allie) Miller and Abigail Miller; brother Brian Isch of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sisters-in-law Becky Gessler and Carol Durr both of Greenville as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Karla K. Greer (March 18, 2020)

Karla K. Greer, 55 of Rossburg, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday March 18, 2020 at 1:17 PM. She was born October 8, 1964 in Union City, Indiana the daughter of Maxine (Meyer) Brumbaugh and the late Wayne Brumbaugh.

She worked as Hospice Aide at State of The Heart Care Inpatient Care Unit and worked as a Nursing Assistant for over 30 years.

She devoted her life to her husband, kids and grandkids and loved spending time with them.

She is preceded in death by her father; her grandparents: Cleo & Edmund Meyer.

Brenda Sue Jeffers-Gilbert (March 15, 2020)

Brenda Sue Jeffers-Gilbert, 67, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020, at the State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

She was born on November 1, 1952, in Greenville as Brenda Martindale, to the late Frank and Grace (Hawkey) Martindale.

In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald L. Jeffers and her beloved dog, Lucy Mae.

Brenda was a 1970 graduate of National Trail High School in Preble County. After graduation she spent many years working for several factories. She certainly was a homebody and she loved working with her hands. She had a passion for creating quilts but had a bad habit of not finishing them, excitement over her next project would lure her away. Brenda had a big heart and loved to help others. She was 125 pounds of giggles and laughter. She liked to laugh so much, that her cheerfulness would disrupt church and Pastor Berdine would have to stop the service until she finished. If she liked you, she would give the shirt off her back, if not, she would beat you with a baseball bat. She was upfront with her friends and family and told them what she thought. Brenda loved her family and enjoyed spending time fishing with her grandkids.

Brenda is survived by her husband Bobby Gilbert, whom she married in December 2018; her daughters, Rhonda Smith and her boyfriend, Mike Benton, of Germantown, Ohio, and Krystal Lindenborn and her husband, Rob, of Arcanum, Ohio; her grandchildren, Zach Smith, Grace Smith, Levi Benton, and Blake Lindenborn; her step-grandson, Timothy Russo; her siblings, Barry Martindale and his wife, Vicki, of Eldorado, Ohio, and Connie Pence and her husband, Jack, of Piqua, Ohio; her sisters-in-law, Caren Long and Connie Taulbee, both of Greenville; and her special cousins, Shirley Hawkey and Dave Hawkey, both of Hamilton, Ohio.

Family and friends may pay their respects to Brenda and her family on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 10:00 AM until 12 noon at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.

Dennis F. Neargardner (March 16, 2020)

Dennis F. Neargardner, age 81 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully at 9:15 PM on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Brookdale Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. Born in Versailles, Ohio on May 6, 1938 to the late Melvin & Emma (Monnin) Neargardner. He was a proud United States Army Veteran having served from October 22, 1957- October 13, 1959. Dennis was a graduate of Versailles High School, Class of 1956. He was a former member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles. He enjoyed music, playing guitar and singing. Dennis loved Johnny Cash, and fishing, and was well known for his wry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son Jim Neargardner: siblings Robert Neargardner; Francis & Elanor Neargardner; Norman Neargardner; Lester & Wanda Neargardner; James & Roberta Neargardner; Ruthie & Peter Mangen: significant other Ann Greene.

Survived by his children Marie & Gary Meadows; David Neargardner: grandchildren Amber Corrow; David Corrow; Lili Neargardner: sister-in-laws Florence & Dottie Neargardner: lifelong friend Dave Gantt: as well as many more family members & friends.
