Ruth E. Marshal (November 27, 2009)

Ruth E. Marshal age 91 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 4:30 A.M. on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Ruth was born April 25, 1918 in Willowdell, Ohio, to the late Edward & Lillie (Meeds) Banks.

Ruth was a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown; St. Ann’s Sodality and Versailles Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents; Ruth is also preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Marshal on October 29, 1984, whom she married February 5, 1936; son, Michael Marshal; daughter, Patricia Marshal; grandsons, Ricky Marshal and Tony Drees; son-in-law, Paul Drees; and brother, Donald Banks.

Ruth is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law, Robert Marshal of Versailles and Bill & Barb Marshal of Versailles; daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Carl Drees of Versailles, Judy & Marvin Schmiesing of Anna and Deborah & Fred Bruns of Versailles; daughter-in-law; Lois Marshal Drees of Versailles; 17 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Freda Banks of Versailles and Alma Treon of Versailles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Family Church Cemetery in Frenchtown. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Robert L. Dieringer (November 28, 2009)

Robert L. “Bob” Dieringer, 74, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 7:30 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born on February 2, 1935 in Celina, Ohio to the late Glenn David Dieringer and Elizabeth Ann (Davis) Varady.

Bob worked in the banking business for 40 years. He worked for the Peoples National Bank in Versailles for 17 years, then for Arcanum National Bank and retired from Greenville National Bank.

He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Graduate School of Banking. Past Master of the Versailles Masonic Lodge, No. 209 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite – Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Past President and Director of the Community Bankers Association of Ohio, Past President of the Darke County Bankers Association, Board of Directors of the Darke County Mental Health Board, Past President of the Versailles Development Association, member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Piqua, Ohio. Bob loved to play Golf.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. (Bidwell) Dieringer of Versailles, Ohio whom he married on August 9, 1957; sons and daughters in law, Tracy Dieringer of Coppell, Texas, Craig & Sue (Dunwoody) Dieringer of Albion, Michigan, Marc & Karla Dieringer of Versailles, Ohio and Scott & Dana Dieringer of Sidney, Ohio; grandchildren, Jamie Compton, Jandie Dieringer, Aaron Dieringer, Micheal Dieringer, Ashton Dieringer, Kyle Dieringer, Corey Dieringer, Alyssa Dieringer, Matthew Dieringer and Lindsey Dieringer; sister and brother in law, Patricia & Steve Gard of Dayton, Ohio; sister in law, Zita Bidwell of St. Mary’s, Ohio as well as some nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 2:00 PM at St. James Episcopal Church, 200 West High Street, Piqua, Ohio with Rev. Rob Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 4-8 PM and Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 10:00 AM to noon at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

There will be a Masonic Memorial Service conducted by the Versailles Masonic Lodge on Tuesday at 7:45 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Versailles Life Squad or the Shriners Hospital.

Mary V. Etzler (November 28, 2009)

Mary V. Etzler, 85, of Greenville, died early Saturday morning, November 28, 2009, at the Brethren Retirement Community. Mary was a former resident of the Arcanum area. She was born January 14, 1924 in Darke County to the late Perry A. and Pearl C (Sleeth) McGriff. On her Mother's death, Mary was raised by her father and stepmother Anna McGriff. She was a member of the New Madison United Methodist Church and former member of the Savona United Methodist Church. Mary was a farm wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell E. Etzler who died January 29, 1994; 5 sisters Doris Miller, Merle McAfee, Geneva Riegle, Garnett Trump, Naomi McGriff, and 2 brothers Robert and Kenneth McGriff. Mrs. Etzler is survived by 3 daughters, Sandra Bluhm and husband Harry of Tipp City, Linda Shepperd and husband Bill of Palm Harbor, FL., Sheryl Jared and husband John of Kansas City, MO.; Son Jack Etzler and wife Anne of Arcanum; 3 granddaughters , Andrea Bluhm, Katie Jared, and Ashleigh Hoskey. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev Steve Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests Memorial Contributions to the New Madison United Methodist Church.

Lela E. Fourman (November 27, 2009)

Lela Elizabeth Fourman, 101, of 750 Chestnut St., Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 1:55 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on August 7, 1908 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Margaret (Fasick) Fourman and Edward Fourman. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Fourman and Carl Fourman.

Lela spent most of her life on a farm west of West Milton, Ohio. She taught children’s Sunday School in West Milton Church of the Brethren for many years. She later transferred her membership to the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

As a trained practical nurse she worked in the obstetrics department at Stouder Hospital in Troy and in the Brethren’s Home medical center from 1958 through 1974. She became a resident of the home in 1973.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel with Pastor Bob Bitner and Pastor Todd Reish officiating. There will be a private burial held at the Riverside Cemetery in West Milton, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions can be made to the Brethren Home Resident Aid Fund.

Jean Coppock Brumbaugh (November 26, 2009)

A life long resident of Greenville, Ohio, Eugene Suzanna Coppock Brumbaugh (Jean), 102 years old, died Thanksgiving morning at the Brethren Retirement Community where she had lived for the past 5 years.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Emily and her husband attorney William David Brumbaugh, Jr., her parents, Maude E. and Fred D. Coppock and sister Dorothy Hole.

Jean attended Dana Hall Preparatory School and Pine Manor College, Wellesley, Mass. and the Art Students League in NYC. She received her teacher’s degree from Leslie College, Cambridge, Mass. later teaching kindergarten in Greenville at the Memorial Hall.

Jean married W. D. Brumbaugh, Jr., (W.D.) in 1934. During their long and happy marriage they found the time and resources to give back to their community. Jean, with W.D. and her father (Fred D. Coppock) became a strong supporter of the City Park through land donations and contributions for the Girl Scout Little House.

Jean and W.D. were life long supporters of the Garst Museum making important gifts to the museum for the physical expansion of its facilities and helping to secure the Lowell Thomas collection for the museum. Their interests in Wayne Hospital, resulted in the establishment of a nurses’ scholarship in 1982. She was a life long member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Greenville.

Family and friends will remember Jean as a reserved, gentle, loving wife and mother, who encouraged achievement in education and art appreciation.

She is survived by a son, Fred (Sally) Brumbaugh, grandsons Peter ( Marianne) Brumbaugh, Samuel (Galaxy) Brumbaugh, a step-granddaughter Erynn (Tom) Scollard; daughter Hilda (John) Mangel, grandsons John (Kathryn) Mangel, William David (Kelly) Mangel; daughter Martha (Edward) Furman, grandson Guy Furman, three step-grandchildren Jody Furman Zafrir, Steve Furman and Tom Furman;10 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Jean will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday December 2, 2009 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Rev. John McRoberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday 1 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Toby L. Matthew (November 25, 2009)

Toby L. Matthew, 65, of Ansonia, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 25, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton.

He was born in Greenville, the son of the late Don and Marciel "Toni" (Toman) Matthew.

Toby had worked as a self employed contractor, a Jailer at the Darke County Sheriff's Office and most recently was an associate at GTI in Greenville. He was a member of the Greenville Elk's Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Kornacki) Matthew; his children, Terri (fiancee Nick Flora) Hunt, Trudy Buchy and Todd (Cathy) Matthew all of Greenville; a step son, Benjamin Crosby of Ansonia; grandchildren, Reece, Laine, Kirstie, Sydney, Aaron, Jacob, Kelsie, Brian and Dustin; a sister, Trudy (Tony) Tuttwiller of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Heather and husband Darren Voke and daughter Morgan, and Amy and Derek Tutwiller.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Frederic E. Rush (November 24, 2009)

Fredric “Fred” Emil Rush, 61, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 5:37 AM at his residence. He was born on August 4, 1948 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Gene & Julia G. (McCarty) Rush.

Fred worked at Whirlpool for 37 years and was a member of the United States Air Force. He was a former member of the VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles in Greenville. He loved taking walks in the woods, bird watching and golf.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Rush and sister in law, Effie Rush.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Hampshire) Rush of Greenville, Ohio whom he married on December 31, 1986; daughters and son in law, Tammy Swartz of Greenville, Ohio and her children, Daniel, Taylor, and Andrew; Tonya (Chris) Curfew of Indiana and their children, Brandon, Alex, Corbin and Morgan; step daughters and sons in law, Elizabeth (Randy) Wombolt of Greenville, Ohio and their children, Dustin (Abigail) Wombolt, Cody (Nicole) Wombolt, Megan (Rob) Taylor, Candy Cook and Bob Werner of Greenville, Ohio and their children, Nicholas Brant, Chelsea Brant and Cheyenne Werner, Sandy (Ron) Rehmert of Union City, Ohio and their children, Brandon Rehmert and Shelby Rehmert, Jeanie (Mike) Turner of Union City, Indiana and their children, Ramie Turner and Brianne Turner; 4 great grandchildren; brothers and sister in law, James & Kwana Rush of Cantonment, Florida and Ronald Rush of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

A full military service will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Duane J. Turner (November 23, 2009)

Mr. Duane J. Turner, age 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:45 A.M. Monday November 23, 2009 at the Sidney Care Center. Duane was born March 31, l924 in Chetopa, Kansas. He was the son of the late James & Grace (Wittner) Turner.

Duane was retired as the owner/operator of “Big D’s Printing Co.” of Greenville. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. A very active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Greenville and a member of the Church Choir. Also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and a Life member of the V.F.W. all of Greenville as well. Also had worked as a Hospice volunteer and played Harmonica for the Hospice Band. Duane was also one of the founding members of the local Optimist Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter—Judy Turner; brothers—Loren, Mewburn, Byron, Dale and Estes. Also by his twin sister—Doris Coffee.

He is survived by his wife—Dorothy (Roth) Turner of Greenville. They were married August 23, l945. Also sons and daughters in law—Dennis & Nancy Turner of Dixon, Ill., and Gary & Candice Turner of Ft. Wayne, Ind. Daughters and sons in law—Nancy & Bob Stolberg of Boise, Idaho, Gail & Jim Snyder of Greenville, Joyce & Art Price of Piqua, Janet & Dave McClanahan of Columbus, Ohio and Peggy & Jeff Heinze of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Also 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Sisters—Treva Ballard of Calif. and Shirley Dale of Calif. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday November 28, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will be held at the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 till 8 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Prayers being recited at 4:30 at the Funeral Home.

Howard M. Snyder (November 22, 2009)

Howard M. Snyder, 55, of Greenville, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Snyder was born in Dayton on November 10, 1954, the son of the late Kenneth M. Snyder and Dorothy M. (Flory) Snyder who survives. Howard was a retired Corning Glass employee, and a 1973 graduate of Arcanum High School. He is survived by his Mother Dorothy Snyder of Arcanum; sister Marcilyn Combs and husband Timothy of Huber Heights; Brothers Larry Snyder and wife Linda of Arcanum and Neal Snyder and wife Alicia of Ft. Myers, FL; and Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Services will be held Noon Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, with Pastor Dan Kuhbander officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends 1 hour before the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty J. Newbauer (November 21, 2009)

Betty J. Newbauer, 75, of Versailles, Ohio, passed on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 8:44 PM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. She was born on September 16, 1934 in Preble County, Ohio to the late Asa Elmer & Abbie Auda (Vail) Rhodehamel. Betty was a housewife.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Newbauer whom she married on January 12, 1965 and 6 siblings.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Allen & Heather Newbauer of Ansonia, Ohio and brother, Gene Rhodehamel of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor James Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friend one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Naomi Rife (November 21, 209)

Naomi Doris (Strawser) Rife, 83, of Germantown and formerly of New Madison, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at her residence. Naomi was born on November 17, 1926, daughter of the late Josh and Clara (Kreitzer) Strawser.

Naomi was a self employed Beautician during her life. She was a member of the Castine Church of the Brethren, and volunteer for meals on wheels with her husband. Naomi and her husband Glen started the first 4-H horse and pony club “Silver Hoofs” in Darke County. Naomi enjoyed fishing, boating, sitting on the back porch and feeding the birds and squirles and most of all she loved people and enjoyed life.

In addition to her parents, Naomi is preceded in death by her husband Glen, whom she married on January 7, 1944. Two brothers, Ohmer Strawser and Jesse Strawser.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Rife of Germantown; a close friend, Dennie Tucker and a sister, Catherine Good of New Madison.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Storch Braund Funeral Home . Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 also at the funeral home with Rev. Greg Hyre being asked to officiate. burial to follow in the Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. Family request memorial contribution be made to Castine Church of the Brethren

Judy A. Howell (November 20, 2009)

Judy A. Howell, age 58 of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and formerly of the Darke County Ohio area passed away on Friday November 20, 2009 at her residence in Ft. Wayne. She was born July 20, 1951 in Celina, Ohio and the daughter of the late James P. & Ruth E. (Stoll) Howell.

Judy was a member of the Blackhawk Baptist Church of Ft. Wayne.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Step Mother Mary Howell.

She is survived by her brother and sister in law—Douglas J. & Jackie Howell of Rossburg, Ohio; step brother—Virgil Combs; nephews—Max (Kelly) Guillozet and Douglas J. (Becky) Howell Jr.; great nephews—D.J. Howell III, Damon Howell and Kyler Guillozet; a great niece—Makenna Guillozet; first cousins—Wayne & Janet Donner as well as numerous other aunts and uncles.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday November 30, 2009 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 P.M. in the funeral home.

Jean Ann Rhoades (November 20, 2009)

Jean Ann Rhoades, 71, of Greenville, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 5:45 AM at her residence. She was born on October 11, 1938 in Union City, Indiana to the late Ray & Ruth (Trobridge) Hummel.

She was a self employed Accountant. She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and the Swinging 8’s Square Dance Club.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe K. Rhoades.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Ronda & Richard Myers of Minooka, IL, and Malinda & Jeff Quinn of Greenville, OH; son and daughter in law, Keith & Marlene Rhoades of Greenville, OH; grandchildren, Emily Myers, Brian Myers, Hannah Quinn, Aaron Quinn, Edward Rhoades, Obadiah Rhoades, Malachi Rhoades and Patrick Rhoades; brother and sister in law, James & Karen Hummel of Union City, OH; sister and brother in law, Jerilyn & Dan Lester of Union City, OH; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2-6 PM at the funeral home.

Alverda A. Bowman (November 20, 2009)

Alverda A. “Birdie’ Bohman age 95 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 12:40 A.M. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Alverda was born December 12, 1913 in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Felix E. & Estella (Bulcher) Subler.

In her earlier years she had been employed at Delco Moraine in Dayton, and during WWII at Aeroproducts in Vandalia, while her husband was in the European theater serving our Country. She was an avid gardener and was well known for her prize winning roses. Along with her late husband, Alverda loved flying, boating and fishing for the big ones. Alverda was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella; a former member of San Pablo Catholic Church in Marathon, Florida, and a former member of the International Flying Farmers.

In addition to her parents, Alverda is also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur J. “Bill” Bohman on May 27, 1992, whom she married November 20, 1941; step mother, Bertha Goffena Subler; brother, Carl J. Subler; infant sister, Catherine Subler; half sister, Mary Ann Berger; step brother, Marion Goffena; step sisters, Rita Hannan, Eileen Batty and Patricia Dabbelt.

Alverda is survived by her brothers & sister-in-law, Kenneth Subler of Versailles and Basil & Annabel Subler of Versailles; sister-in-law, Krista Subler of Versailles; half brother, John & Isabella Subler of Versailles; half sister, Doris Monnin of Versailles; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Alma M. Grilliot (November 19, 2009)

Alma M. Grilliot age 88 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 8:50 A.M. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Versailles Health Care Center. Alma was born April 23, 1921 in Osgood, Ohio, to the late Fred & Agnes (Heitkamp) Bruns.

Alma formerly worked at the Buckeye in Coldwater and Monarch in Sidney. She was also a homemaker. Alma was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and the Daughters of Isabella of the church.

In addition to her parents, Alma is also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Grilliot on February 17, 2002, whom she married October 24, 1942; brothers, Wilbert B. “Web” & Lawrence Bruns; sister, Sylvina Poeppleman; and brothers-in-law, Linus Poeppleman, Ed Boerger and Greg Luebke.

Alma is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Richard & Shirley Grilliot of Ansonia and Roger & Sandy Grilliot of Versailles; daughters & sons-in-law, Barbara & Lorys Bohman of Osgood and Diane & Ralph Kunk of Russia; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sisters & brothers-in-law, Emerita Boerger of Ft. Loramie, Irene & Art Lochtefeld of Yorkshire, Marie & Tom Moorman of St. Henry and Joann Luebke of Ft. Loramie; sisters-in-law, Kelly Bruns of Frenchtown and Mary Bruns of Osgood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Freda M. Marker, 89, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 6:07 PM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born on February 24, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio to the late A. D. & Chloris (Golditz) Zeller.

Freda worked at Corning Glass as a Quality Control Inspector and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Greenville.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth H. Marker, brother George Zeller and sister, Inez Lutz.

She is survived by son & daughter in law, Richard “Dick” & Elaine Marker of Ft. Myers, Florida, grandchildren; Kent & Chin Hui Marker, Vicki & Tony Meinerding and Scott & Janette Marker, great grandchildren; Heather Drew, Brandon Drew, Courtney Lephart and Macie Marker as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ruth J. Strait (November 17, 2009)

Ruth J. (Rue) Strait, 76, of Union City, OH and formerly of New Weston, OH, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 17, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.

She was born in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Cara A. and Sally Jane (Howard) Rue. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. Strait in 1992; sons, Gary Strait in 2001 and Charles Robert Strait in 2005; a daughter, Renea Strait in 2000; brothers, Cary E. Rue and George M. Rue; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Rue.

Ruth was retired from Fram/Allied Signal in Greenville where she had worked for over 40 years. She was a member of the former New Weston United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Gale Strait-Vasquez of Rockford, OH; granddaughters, Laura Maria Vasquez, Stacy Vasquez-Wickey, Andrea Vasquez, Scarlet Amber Strait and Brandy Strait; great grandchildren, Seth, Selena, Javier, Kali, Anthony, Kara and Benjamin "BJ"; brothers, Jimmy H. (Cathy) Rue and Jerry Rue both of Union City, OH; a sister, Peggy (Allen) Thwaits of Celina; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH, with the Rev. Travis Combest officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Shook's Chapel Cemetery near Rossburg, OH.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5-7 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Toys for Tots.

Norene F. Renfro (November 17, 2009)

Norene F. (Fletcher) Renfro, 83, of Greenville and formerly of Overton Texas, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born in Greenville, the daughter of the late Harry Victor and Eva (Aten) Fletcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Renfro on November 26, 1997; brothers, Herman, Roscoe and Chester Fletcher; and sisters, Frances Wilt and Thelma Marie Fletcher.

A homemaker, Norene spent most of her adult life in Louisiana, Arkansas, and eastern Texas areas.

She is survived by a brother, Richard A. (Charlotte) Fletcher of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 20, at 11 a.m. at the Abbottsville Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Oser officiating.

There will be no public visitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Janet D. (Klepinger) Richards, 73, of Hollansburg, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2009 at her residence. She is the daughter of the late Vance and Olga Klepinger.

Janet was a retired teacher of Bellbrook Schools and enjoyed shopping and spending time with her husband.

She is survived by her husband Gary Richards of Hollansburg and a brother Lee Klepinger of Washington State.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward (November 11, 2009)

Carrie E. (Hawkey) Ward, 87, of Eldorado, passed away on November 11, 2009, at the Hospice of Dayton. Carrie was born on June 19, 1922 daughter of the late Earl and Viola Hawkey.

Carrie retired as a head cook for the CR Coblentz School District. She was a member of the ETA PI KAPPA Sorority andenjoyed bowling, reading, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Ray Ward on June 28, 1941.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carrie is preceded in death by a son, James Ward and a son-in-law, Larry Shaffer.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Linda Shaffer of Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Diana Ward of New Madison; four grandchildren, Sherri (Randy) Sparks of Richmond, Julie (Brian) Sandlin of Richmond, Jon Ward (special friend Valerie Tegmeyer) of Greenville and Keith (Stephanie) Ward of Enon; eight great-grand children, Kevon Sparks, Ashlei Sparks, Brian Sandlin, Jr., Tyler Sandlin, Katalina Ward, Johnene Ward, James Ward, Logan Ward; one brother, Carl “Bud” (Juanita) Hawkey of New Madison.

Visitation will be from 6:00– 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2009 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. Wayne A. Yount (November 12, 2009)

Wayne A. Yount, 81, of Greenville, passed away Thursday morning, November 12, 2009 at his residence.

He was born in Greenville, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Rue) Yount. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Steven W. Yount on July 6, 1995; brothers, Jack and Eugene; and a sister Tolitha.

A veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict, Wayne had worked most of his life as a florists having worked for Plessinger Brothers Florists and then 30+ years at Will's Greenhouse in Greenville.

He is survived by his children, Dean Yount of Lafayette, IN, John (Patty) and Doug Yount both of Greenville, Marianna (Ron) Edwards of Bradford and Connie Yount of Worthington, OH; 21 grandchildren,; 15 great grandchildren; and brothers, Walter Yount, Jr. of New Paris, and Marvin Yount of Greenville.

Graveside services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at the Brock Cemetery, Saturday, November 21 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Hoeflich officiating.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Michael Lee Miller (November 11, 2009)

Mr. Michael Lee Miller of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:30 PM Wednesday, November 11th at Wayne Hospital.

Michael was born on September 4th, 1944, in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Marjorie P. Miller and the late Howard C. Miller Jr.

Michael worked over 40 years as an Independent Athletic Awards Salesman beginning with Neff Lettering, Greenville, Ohio.

Michael is survived by his wife Mrs. Judy Lee (Bisel) Miller of Greenville, OH. They were married July 2nd 1972. Also his 3 sons Michael Plessinger II, John Plessinger, and Stewart Lee Miller, 3 sisters Dona J. (Miller) Kopka, Pamela S (Miller) Hopper and the late Kathleen F (Miller) Applegate, and several nieces and nephews.

A Visitation and Memorial Service will be at Presbyterian Church 114 East Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio on November 21st. The Visitation will commence at 9:00 AM followed by the Memorial Service 10:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. John Person officiating.

Bobby L. Coby (November 11, 2009)

Bobby L. Coby age 75 of Union City, Ohio passed away at 12:49 P.M. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Bobby was born January 26, 1934 in Mercer County, Ohio, to the late Oliver & Mary (Goodpaster) Coby.

Bobby was retired. He was a member of the Union City, Indiana, Eagles Lodge #2790 and American Legion of Union City, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is also preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Coby Jr.; brothers, Gerald and Wayne Coby; and sister, Betty Murphy.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Ocellia “Ozzie” (Garland) Coby, whom he married December 15, 1975. He is also survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, Douglas & Judy Coby, Sr. of Bradford, Darrell & Judy Coby of Greenville and Darren Coby of Greenville; daughters & sons-in-law, Roberta & Ron Beyke of Versailles and Farah & Kenneth Grewe of Union City, Indiana; grandchildren, Monica Coby, Leanna Coby, Nikki Coby, Kylie Beyke, Matthew Beyke, Kaitlyn Hughes and Kayden Grewe; numerous step children, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and step great grandchildren; brothers & sister-in-law, Everett Junior & Ruby Coby of Greenville and Larry Coby of Lynn, Indiana; sister & brother-in-law, Dorothy & Jack Schmidt of Celina; sister-in-law, Martha Coby of Celina and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 5:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Don Avore officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. There will be an Eagles Lodge of Sorrow held at 4:45 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home conducted by the Union City Eagles Lodge #2790. Mervin B. Schulze (November 9, 2009)

Mervin B. Schulze age 80 of Versailles passed away at 9:15 P.M. on Monday, November 9, 2009 at his residence. Mervin was born April 22, 1929 in Celina, Ohio, to the late Joseph & Clara (Bergman) Schulze.
Mervin retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he was a project supervisor with 34 years of service. Mervin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mervin was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Versailles Knights of Columbus; Versailles American Legion and the Versailles Eagles. Mervin played for the Osgood Crackers in the Western Ohio Baseball League. Mervin enjoyed bowling, playing cards and camping.

In addition to his parents; Mervin is also preceded in death by his step mother, Mary Huber Schulze and an infant sister.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Eileen (Drees) Schulze, whom he married April 30, 1953. he is also survived by sons & daughters-in-law, Jerry & Judy Schulze of Celina, Thomas Schulze of Versailles, Randy & Kathy Schulze of Fremont and Jon & Shelly Schulze of Versailles; a daughter & son-in-law, Kay & Tom Francis of Versailles; grandchildren, Jennifer & Dan Jacobs, Joe Schulze, Billy & Stephanie Dirksen, Teresa Schulze, Kyle & Jenny Francis, Caden Schulze and Logan Schulze; and great grandchildren, Samantha, Savannah and Alexis Jacobs and Carter Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard. Lola F. Sullenbarger (November 4, 2009)

Lola F. Sullenbarger age 67 of New Madison, Ohio, passed away at 2:57 P.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana; after a courageous battle with cancer. Lola was born July 3, 1942 in Letcher County, Kentucky, to the late Torrence & Emogene (Pigman) Warrick.

Lola retired from Kroger in Greenville where she was the front end manager.

In addition to her parents, Lola is also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Warrick.

Lola is survived by her husband, Tony Sullenbarger, Jr., whom she married March 21, 1987. She is also survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Lydia & Bruce Campbell of Richmond, Indiana; grandchildren, Michael & Andrea Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, Adam Smith of Indiana University, Scott Campbell of Richmond, Indiana, and Sarah & Ryan Hughes of Pataskala, Ohio; sister, Lilly Cook of Maysville, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Warrick of Monticello, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dogs, Maggie & Joey.

Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Snell Cemetery in Darke County, Ohio, with Rev. Lowell Miller officiating. Maurice VonWihl (November 3, 2009)

Maurice VonWihl, 84, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, November 3, 2009 in Greenville.

He was born in Elizabeth, KY, son of the late John VonWihl and Rosa (Putz) VonWihl. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Mae VonWihl.

Maurice was a bartender for the American Legion. He attended Greenville High School until he entered the Army where he served in the Pacific during WWII.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Skiles of Greenville; a son Mark Copp; a sister Jeanette "Tootsie" Jenkinson in addition to grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A public graveside service will be held at the Greenville Cemetery Saturday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. with Father White officiating.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to St. Mary's Catholic School.

Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Rolland E. Bruner (November 2, 2009)

Rolland E. Bruner age 84 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away at 5:50 P.M. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville. Rolland was born January 5, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Bertie & Viola (Fryman) Bruner.

Rolland retired from Hobart KitchenAid in Greenville in 1986, where he was a factory worker. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Gunners Mate 2nd class on the LSM 27, serving in the Pacific. Rolland was a 1943 graduated of Ansonia High School. Rolland was a former member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenville. Rolland was a member of the Whirlpool Retirees; LSM Association; Greenville V.F.W. and Greenville American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Rolland was also preceded in death by his wife, Alta M. (McClancy) Bruner; brothers, Harry, Martin and Albert Bruner; and sisters, Lovina Shaner and Onda Gant.

Rolland is survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Alicia A. & Wayne Hickerson of Van Wert and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, with Pastor Ronald Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.

James R. Greer (November 1, 2009)

James R. Greer, age 97 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday November 1, 2009 at 4:55 AM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born August 13, 1912 in Bradford, Ohio the son of the late Clarence & Bertha (Michael) Greer. He retired from General Motors-Delco Products of Dayton, where he had been employed for 25 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Wife of 61 years Catherine M. (Morris) Greer on April 7, 2001; Daughter in law: Jerry Lou Greer; Brother: Andrew Greer; Sisters: Mary Lafern Greer, Infant sister Margaret Geraldine Greer, & Olive Greer.

He is survived by his Son Gary Greer of Greenville; Granddaughter & husband: Lori & Greg Schmidt of Greenville; Brothers: Denver Greer of Bradford, & Floyd & Virginia Greer of Versailles.

Services will be held on Thursday November 5, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Lowell Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomer Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at the funeral home. Shirley E. Tinkle (November 1, 2009)

Mrs. Shirley E. Tinkle, 74, of New Madison and formally of Ridgeville, Indiana passed away peaceably at Rest haven Nursing Facility in Greenville on November 1, 2009 after a brief illness. She is a native of Ridgeville, having been born there on June 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Charles and Conchetta (Stouder) Wooters.

After her marriage to John Tinkle on May 6, 1952 she traveled to many different locations as he was a member of the United Stated Air Force. Upon his retirement from the Air Force in April 1969 they returned to Ridgeville and resided there until they moved to New Madison in 2001

She had several joys in life besides her grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Her greatest acheivment was obtaining her private pilots licence. Other hobbies included the traveling she did while her husband was in the service, being a foster parent for many years, and the cooking and canning of the fruits and vegitables that there yearly garden produced.

She is survived by her loving husband, CMSgt John Tinkle, retired,; three sons, Barry and wife Gwen Tinkle of New Madison, Doug Tinkle of Georgia and Johnnie and wife Chris Tinkle of West Milton; a daughter Star Darling and special friend Frank Valensi of Florida; an adopted daughter Brenda Weeks of Florida. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; a sister Sue and husband Ernie Coleman of Tampa, Florida; a brother James and wife Loretta Wooters of Fairview, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant brother.

There will be no public visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alice Jean Wagner, 87, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 4:32 PM at Sunrise of Englewood, Englewood, Ohio. She was born on July 1, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio to the late H. Verl & Mary (Niswonger) Wright.

She was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Ralph R. Wagner whom she married on April 12, 1941.

She is survived by daughters and sons in law; Beth & Gary Ehlinger of New Carlisle, Ohio and Gail & Forrest Cope of Clayton, Ohio, grandchildren; Tom (Valerie) Cope, Mike (Kim) Cope, Danielle (Justin) Cope-Pettibone, Matthew (Amy) Ehlinger and Nathan (Melissa White) Ehlinger, 11 great grandchildren, sisters and brother in law; Thelma Studebaker of New Carlisle, Ohio Kay & Dick Weherley of Englewood, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Ron Sherck officiating.
