Harold William “Bill” Worthen (July 30, 2017)

Harold William “Bill” Worthen, age 66 of Algonac, Michigan and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:10 AM Sunday July 30, 2017 in Davison, MI. Bill was born October 4, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late William and Dorothy (Newbauer) Worthen.

He was an Automotive Consultant employed with Innovative Works in New Baltimore, MI.

Bill was the founder and very involved with SMAFF (St. Clair-Macomb Amateur Fastpitch Federation), enjoyed cooking and camping, time with his family particularly his grandchildren, building computers and repairing computers for friends and family, reading and studying technical Automotive Manuals, gardening and farming with an appreciation for John Deere equipment and also an avid OSU Buckeye Fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Darlene Plessinger and a brother-in-law Eddie Stover.

Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn (Karnehm) Worthen of Algonac, MI. They were married March 23, 1974. Also children Channon “Bill” (Jennifer) Worthen of East China, MI and Erica (Kevin) Turner of Sidney, Ohio; grandchildren Blake Worthen, Will Fisher, Ashlee Worthen, Maggie Turner, Claire Turner and Ellie Turner; brother Robert Gene (Annie) Worthen of Greenville; sisters Phyllis Jane Stover of New Madison and Kay (Gary) Tillman of Georgia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday August 3, 2017 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Joe LeMaster officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of the services in the funeral home.

Rhonda L. Rismiller (July 29, 2017)

Rhonda L. Rismiller, age 53, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 6:05 PM at her residence. She was born on September 3, 1963 in Darke County, Ohio, to Goethe & Patty (Boolman) Rodeheffer of Ansonia, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Jack Rismiller of Versailles, Ohio, whom she married on November 24, 1984; son, Dan Rismiller of Versailles; daughter and son in law, Bethany & Andy Brown of Arcanum, Ohio; granddaughters, Myra & Tabitha Brown; brother, Randy Rodeheffer of Lake View, Ohio, mother in law, Norma Rismiller of Versailles; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father in law, Glen Rismiller.

Rhonda worked at various places as a clerk, bookkeeper and bank teller. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in North Star where she was the treasurer for many years and the past president of church council. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and a member of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at the food pantry and Versailles High School Band as well as numerous other places.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 13495 Greenville St. Mary’s Rd., North Star, Ohio, with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in North Star. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5-8 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church.

Billie Jo "BJ" Gasquez (July 28, 2017)

Billie Jo "BJ" Gasquez, 66, of Greenville, passed away early Friday morning, July 28, 2017, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Unit in Greenville.

She was born on March 30, 1951 in Greenville, to the late Oral and Ruby (Coppock) Boldman.

In addition to her parents, BJ was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Boldman and Rebecca Powell.

BJ retired from Weaver Bros. in Versailles on March 30, 2017 after 34 years. She belonged to the Greenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a member of Lighthouse Christian Center.

BJ is survived by her husband, Jerome "Jerry" Gasquez, whom she married September 27, 2014; her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Rosie Boldman of Union City, Ohio; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Karilyn Hittle of Arcanum, Fonda and Marion Miller of Greenville, and Betsy and Bill Clauss of Arcanum. BJ also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Rosalie Gasquez of Baldwin, New York, her brother-in-law, Ronald Gasquez of East Meadow, New York, a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Romano Gasquez of Baldwin, New York, and numerous nieces, nephews and her best friend Frankie Sanderson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Lighthouse Christian Center, 5256 Sebring Warner Rd, Greenville, OH 45331, with Pastor Hershel Fee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery.

Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Lighthouse Christian Center with an Auxiliary Memorial Service being held at 6:45PM by the Greenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Alfred L. Henry (July 28, 2017)

Alfred L. Henry, age 95, formerly of Versailles, Ohio, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, at Fair Haven in Sidney, Ohio. Al was born June 15, 1922 in rural Darke County, to the late Harry and Mary (Didier) Henry of Versailles, Ohio. On December 15, 1943, he married Dorothy M. Dapore at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney, Ohio. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2011.

Al is survived by son and daughter in law A. Larry & Sylvia Henry, Jr. of Versailles; daughters and son in law, Barbara & Jerry Weaver of Clayton, Joyce & James Chilcote of Toledo, and Cheryl & Dale Leach, Jr. of Sidney; twelve grandchildren; Rebecca Henry, Tamara (Kris Barr) Henry, Janell (Chris) Weiss, Elizabeth (Robert) Hunkeler, Keith Weaver, Marcella (Douglas) Chaney, Anthony (Tanya) Weaver, Julie Chilcote, Jamie (Kim) Chilcote, Jeff (Amber) Chilcote, Chris (Sherri) Leach, and Dave (Quintina) Leach, 37 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great Grandchildren, sister Bertha Bryan of Piqua, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Weaver, and siblings, Elizabeth Chouchot, Magdalene Kley, Josephine Saintignon, Florence Bashore, Dorothy Zimmerman, Louis Henry, James Henry, John Henry, Joseph Henry and Paul Henry.

Al served in the Army during World War II and participated in 4 major campaigns, Invasion of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Hurtgen Forest and Ardennes Forest. He was wounded several times as a combat soldier and chose to return to his unit until the fourth time when he finished his service as a MP. He received the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster and other medals and accommodations. He completed his service as a staff sergeant and was discharged on November 29, 1945. It pleased him when strangers would come up to him and thank him for his service.

Upon returning from the war, Al and Dorothy started dairy farming. They won an award for the best quality milk in Ohio and a trip to Chicago in the late sixties. Al was a life member of the Saint Remy Knights of Columbus. He is a Past-President of the Darke County Farm Bureau, served on the Darke County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for over 25 years and made trips to Washington DC to talk to congressmen on behalf of farmers. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, where he was a past commander, and frequently participated in parades and goodwill visits to other less fortunate veterans. He was a member of the Purple Heart Chapter of Dayton, Ohio.

Once he and Dorothy retired from farming, they began to travel. They visited all but four of our 50 states as well as travel to Canada, Europe and Africa. With retirement, he became very active in his army reunions for the 83rd Infantry Division, and several times hosted the event.

On May 30, 2012 he, along with his deceased twin brother Joseph, and deceased brother John, received a High School Diploma from Versailles High School with the graduating class of 2012 made possible through John Boehner’s office. The manuscript of his short story of his life is in the Library of Congress.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 4-8 PM as well as from 9-10 am on Friday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio. A Graveside Military service will be conducted by the Versailles Veterans Honor Guard.

Zane Crosby Sutter (July 26, 2017)

Zane Crosby Sutter, infant son of Matthew and Sarah (Coblentz) Sutter, was stillborn at 33 weeks on July 26, 2017 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Zane weighed 3 lbs. 4 oz. and was 16 inches long.

In addition to his parents, Zane is survived by his sisters, Eleanor and Evelyn Sutter; his brother, Henry Sutter; his paternal grandparents, Ronald and Grace Sutter of Greenville; his maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Brenda Coblentz of Greenville; his uncle, Micah and Christian Coblentz of Greenville; his aunts, Julia and Michael Bradley of Englewood and Shawna and Kevin Murphy of Louisville, Kentucky; and many cousins.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Christopher Shane Short (July 23, 2017)

Christopher Shane Short age 29 of Arcanum, on Sunday, July 23, 2017, the world got a little darker and Christopher gained his wings. Christopher was always there to help someone no matter what, he had the biggest heart. Christopher was born January 13, 1988, in Dayton, Ohio to Stephen & Tina (Hensley) Short of Arcanum.

In addition to his parents, Christopher is also survived by his sister, Amanda Short of Dayton; girlfriend, Courtney Love of Huber Heights; nieces, Deonna Garrett and McKenzie Short; paternal grandmother, Mary Short of Greenville; good friend & cousin, Ian Savage of New Madison; and too many family and friends to mention.

Christopher was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Short; and maternal grandparents, Chester & Lois Hensley.

Robert E. Mitchell, age 85, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 8:55 PM at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on June 13, 1932 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Jobe & Ethel (Alexander) Mitchell.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Tim & Collette Mitchell of Greenville; daughters and sons in law, Gena & Bill Hoyt of Greenville, Brenda & Randy Brasher of Florida and Sheree Boyd of Tipp City; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Richard & Linda Mitchell of Tennessee and Jim & Margaret Mitchell of Greenville; sisters, JoAnn Cecil and Barbara Young both of Troy; companion, Ida Wright of Brookville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Lee Mitchell.

Robert was a member of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Superior Soft Water and a member of the VFW in Greenville. He loved fishing, playing cards and woodworking.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. There will be a military service conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard on Friday at 11:45 AM at the funeral home. There will be no burial following the service.

Gracelynn Nicole and London Renee Walker, passed away on July 17,2017 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. They were born on July 17,2017, to the parents of Alex Walker and Paris Warner-Oakes of Greenville.

Gracelynn and London are preceded in death by their paternal papaw, Trent Walker.

Paul Dickey (July 17, 2017)

Paul Dickey, 72, of Greenville, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

Paul was born on March 22,1945 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Edgar and Verla (Brumbaugh) Dickey.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Dickey and Charles Dickey; and a grandson, Cody Favors.

Paul served his country honorably in the U. S. Marines where he served in Vietnam in communications. He graduated in 1963 from Mississinawa Valley High School. Paul worked for Corning for over 20 years.

Paul enjoyed taking daily walks, horse racing, Nascar racing and rooting for the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Browns. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge, all in Greenville.

Paul is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nina (Brumbaugh) Dickey of Greenville, his children, Shawn (April) Dickey of Osgood, and Gina (Dickey) Greene of Arcanum; his grandchildren, Michael Dickey, Sarah Greene, and Hannah Greene; his step son, Buddy Favors, Sr. of Mt. Summit, Indiana; his step grandchildren, Ian Favors, Coy Favors and Buddy Favors, Jr., Dalton Goubeaux; his brother, Ray (Carolyn) Dickey of Ansonia; his sister, Treva (Bob) Hamilton of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles William Drake, Sr. (July 17, 2017)

Charles William Drake, Sr., 92, of Greenville, passed away early Monday morning, July 17, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

Charles was born on June 29, 1925 in South Haven, Michigan to the late Harold and Dorothy (Doxtator) Drake, Sr.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra JoAnn Engle; his step daughter, Barbara Anne Kelley; his brother, Harold Arthur Drake, Jr.; and his sister, Gertrude Bell Veilik.

Charles served his country honorably in the U. S. Navy and U. S. Air Force. He was a life member of the Greenville VFW and a member of the Southwest Ohio Radio Club. Charles was a retired truck driver for Badger Trucking of Wisconsin.

Charles is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara (Snook) Drake of Greenville, his children, Denise Marie Drake of Las Vegas, Shannon Marie (Dave) Shepard of Elida, Charles William (Roxanne) Drake,Jr. of Orion, Michigan and John David Drake of Cridersville; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Ann (Bill) Evertt of Hartford, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.

Roger L. White age 76, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:15 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at his residence. Roger was born June 28, 1941, in Tazewell, Virginia to the late Charlie G. & Ella Rose (Hall) White.

Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia A. “Patty” (Comer) White whom he married July 31, 1961; children, Debbie & Scott Ray of Greenville, Teresa & Tony Bunger of Greenville and Joe & Beth White of Greenville; grandchildren, Chris & Kasey Bunger of Greenville, Chad & Cassie Bunger of Greenville, Liz & Michael Daniels of Phoenix, Arizona and Kyle Bunger of Piqua; great-grandchildren, Jani-ce Bunger, Dakota Bunger, Autumn Bunger, Alliah Bunger and Corbin Bunger; brother & sister-in-law, Charles & Betty White of Matthews, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Durham and Virginia Losco.

Roger retired from Shraders Inc. in Greenville where he recapped tires. Roger also worked at Hansbarger Appliance and SRS Engine Parts in Greenville where he did deliveries. Roger was a former member of the Greenville Moose Lodge and Darke County Fish & Game Club. He was an avid hunter & fisherman. Roger was an accomplished tournament catfisherman, catching a 26.14 lb. shovelhead catfish plus numerous other sized catfish.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Sam Shilot officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Mark L. Sides age 52, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:06 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Kindred Hospital in Dayton. Mark was born November 10, 1964, in Greenville, Ohio.

Mark is survived by his father & step mother, Dennis & Janice (Mock) Sides of Greenville; sons & daughters-in-law, Nathan Sides serving in the U.S. Navy stationed in Japan, Jeff & Elizabeth Sides of Greenville and Anthony & Traci Smith of Piqua; grandchildren, Devin & Greyson Smith; brothers & sisters-in-law, Todd Sides of Columbus, Dean & Jessie Hill of Montana, Darrel Sides of Cincinnati and Tony & Lynn Lewis of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother & step father, Kay (Shuff) & Jim Segrest.

Mark served in the U.S. Army for 10 years. He was a graduate of Kettering College of Medical Arts and worked as a Physician’s Assistant. Mark held an amateur radio license. He was a member of ARRL, the National Association for Amateur Radio; Treaty City Amateur Radio Association and Darke County Amateur Radio Emergency Services.

Roger Pohl (July 14, 2017)

Roger Pohl, 85, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away Friday morning, July 14, 2017.

He was born May 1, 1932.

Roger married Arlene McEldowney on July 25, 1956, at the St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Pauline (Rammel) Pohl and son, Kevin Pohl.

Roger is survived by children: Steven Pohl (Troy, OH), Lisa Grossman (Marysville, OH), John (Lisa) Pohl (Winchester, KY), and Thomas (Sharon) Pohl Florence, SC).

Grandchildren: Kris (Erica) Grossman, Kyle Grossman, Mariah Pohl, Ryan Pohl and Julia Pohl.

Roger graduated from St. Henry High School, St. Henry, Ohio, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, with active service in the Korean War from 1952-1954.

Roger was a member of the St. Denis Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus-Council 1756, and a member of the American Legion Post #0435.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Duell celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Merle L. Newbauer, age 72, of Greenville, Ohio, and formerly of Woodington, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 8:37 AM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on October 5, 1944 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Robert & Lois (Hoover) Newbauer.

He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Emily & Bill Clark and Jennifer Newbauer both of Ansonia; grandchildren, Sarah Clark, Chris Clark and Rusty Hardwick; brother, John Newbauer of Rossburg; sisters, Ruth Avery and Lynn Newbauer both of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Donnie, Charlie and Ronnie Newbauer and sister, Roberta Newbauer.

Merle worked as a truck driver and was a very avid fisherman.

There will be a graveside service held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Oakland Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio, with Pastor Donnie Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Dorothy E. Boyd (July 11, 2017)

Dorothy E. Boyd, 103, of Greenville. Ohio passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Village Green Health Campus in Greenville.

She was born on January 11, 1914 in Warren County, Indiana to the late Balinger Berlin and Grace Ethel (Gray) Turner. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Palmer Wilson Boyd; a son, Leonard W. Boyd; a great-great grandson; brothers, Richard Wayne Turner and Russell Turner; sisters, Ruth Schaar, Alta Peters, Alice Wentworth, Mildred Hocker, Virginia Gilmore, June Wentworth and Anna Mary Taylor.

Dorothy was left a widow raising five children between the ages of three and 13. She worked several jobs including house work, painting, retail, restaurant. She did what she could to support her family and was very proud of that. She was a member of Rossburg United Methodist Church, was a Golden Eagle with the Greenville Eagles and VFW Auxiliary. Dorothy loved writing and had written and published a volume of poetry and her autobiography. She loved working in her yard and gardens.

Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, Marvin and Connie Boyd of Greenville, Maxine Rhotehamel of Greenville, Phyllis and Buford Bolin of Piqua and Norma and Jim Erwin of Ansonia; 15 grandchildren: 27 great grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; brothers and their spouses, Junior and Phyllis Turner of Ansonia and Bob and Nadine Turner of Rossburg; a sister, Norma Rammel of Greenville; sister-in-law, Janet Turner of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, July 17, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Mitch Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery.

Family and friends may visit from 1PM to 4PM Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the funeral home.

Mary Esther (Fellers) Wilson, age 87 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Palestine passed away at 2:59 PM Tuesday July 11, 2017 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. She was born on January 28, 1930 to the late Henry and Claribel (Shade) Fellers in Neave Township, Darke County, Ohio.

She married Robert (Bob) Wilson June 10, 1948. He preceded her in death December 2, 2010.

Survivors include son, Tom and wife, Sharon (Newman) Wilson of Greenville, two daughters, Joyce and husband Tony Ayette of Palestine and, Jane and husband Greg Eley of Brookville, Ohio. Eight grandchildren and spouses: Joe and Marla (Wietholter) Ayette; Alan and Erin (Crawford) Ayette; Julie (Wilson) and Dennis Ritchie; Beth (Eley) and Kevin Reed; Jacci (Ayette) Spencer; Brenda (Wilson) and Ryan Clemens; Karen (Eley) and Aaron Peak; Alicia (Ayette) and Dustin Swallow.
Twenty-one great grandchildren: Tanner, Sydney, Ashley and Audrey Ayette; Alia, Micah, Lydia and Zoe Ayette; Matthew Ritchie; Brenna and Brooke Reed; Caleb, Luke and Isaac Spencer; Brandon and Lauren Clemens; Troy and Kyle Peak; Ethan, Kaelan and Noah Swallow. Sisters: Betty Lou Mixon; Donna Bixler, Peggy, Karolyn and Marilyn Fellers. Brothers: Jack and wife Connie Fellers; Jim and wife Debbi Fellers. Two brothers-in-law: Bill and wife Josephine Wilson, Dan and wife Beverly Wilson. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by husband, parents, father and mother-in-law, Omer and Beatrice (Lindamood) Wilson, brothers-in-law: Ben Mixon, Gene Bixler, Sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Wilson) and husband Don Brewer, grandson-in-law, Wade Spencer.

She was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ and served as a Sunday School teacher and youth leader as well as being the church treasurer for many years. She liked to sew and made her daughters’ wedding gowns. She and her husband, Bob liked to set-up at local flea markets for a number of years. She was a graduate of Palestine High School in 1948.

Calling will be on Thursday July 13, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio and on Friday 1 hour prior to the services in the church. Celebration of life will be 10:30 AM Friday July 14, 2017 at Greenville Church of the Brethren 421 Central Ave. Greenville, Oh 45331 with Pastor Mike Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Palestine Cemetery.

Donald Stuart Livingston (July 7, 2017)

Donald Stuart Livingston, 92, of Union City, passed away early Friday morning, July 7, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

Donald was born on November 28, 1924 in New Weston, Ohio to the late Clarence and Stella (Stuart) Livingston.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Hartzell) Livingston; his brother, Leon Livingston; his sisters, Eileen Morgan and Evelyn Brandon.

Donald attended the Woodington Congregational Christian Church, was a member of Treaty City Motorcycle Club, Darke County Steam Threshers, Farm Power of the Past, and a former member of the Harley Owners Group-Painter Creek Chapter. Donald was an avid Hart Parr and Oliver Tractor enthusiast. He was a member of the Hart Parr Oliver Collectors Association-Oliver Gang Chapter and several other tractor chapters.

Donald is survived by his children, Onda (Richard) Creager of Union City, Indiana, Paula (John) Snyder of Greenville, Tom (Annette) Livingston of New Weston; his grandchildren, Emily James, Kip Copeland, Ross Reichard, Dustin Reichard, Megan Addington, Brandon Livingston, Nickie Bush; 18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Burial will follow in Teegarden Cemetery.

Cary E. VanDeGrift (July 6, 2017)

Cary E. VanDeGrift, 63, of Greenville, went home to his Lord and Savior early Thursday morning, July 6, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville. He fought a hard fight against heart and kidney disease especially the last two years.

Cary was born on April 22, 1954 in Greenville, to Faren G. VanDeGrift of Florida and the late Ilene (Eley) VanDeGrift.

In addition to his mother, Cary is preceded in death by his grandparents, Maurice and Mary Lou VanDeGrift and Marvin and Helen Eley.

Cary attended the EUM church and participated in the Emmaus Community and sang in the choir. He loved God, his family, and never knew a stranger.

In addition to his father and stepmother, Dottie, Cary is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kelly (Shane) VanDeGrift of Greenville, whom he married March 17, 1979; Kathleen (Christopher) Fields of Lebanon, Rebecca (Andrew) Burns of St. Petersburg, FL, and Caroline VanDeGrift (Justin Kelly) of Greenville; granddaughter Lucie Mae Fields and soon to be grandson, Samuel James Fields; brother, David (Heidi) VanDeGrift; sisters, Gayle (Greg) Ruwe, Barbara (Barry) Bolyard and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at EUM Church, downtown campus, 111 Devor Street, Greenville with Pastor Jeff Harper and Rev. Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial in Brock Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Mabel E. Cable, age 96, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 7:15 PM at Brookdale Assisted Living, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on January 24, 1921 in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late Frank & Regina (Zumbrink) Baumer.

Mabel is survived by her daughter and son in law, Ann & Dick Farmer of Arcanum; grandsons, Darin Farmer, Greg (Tina) Farmer and Hollis (Angie) Farmer; great grandchildren Brandon, Wesley, Hunter, Trenton, Kianna, Evelyn May Farmer, Erica Ray, Jacob Hefner, Teresa Jannelli and Dani Jannelli; sister and brother in law, Leona & Ivo Scott of Montezuma, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her, husband, Charles E. Cable; son, John E. Cable; sisters, Bernadiana Baumer, Matilda Baumer, Adella Baumer, Edna Wagner and Rose Litmer; and brothers, Joe and Robert Baumer.

Mabel retired from Fram in 1987 after over 30 years of service and also work over 20 years for various companies demoing products. She was a member of the Greenville Elks and Greenville Moose Lodge. She loved crocheting, camping, fishing, traveling, playing cards and dancing.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Terry Cavanaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

William Leon “Bill” Fisher (July 2, 2017)

William Leon “Bill” Fisher, 65, of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away, Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center.

Bill was born January 6, 1952 in Greenville, Ohio, a son of the late Ira Berlin “Bob” and Bertice J. Fisher.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by second wife, Diane Fisher.

Bill enjoyed collecting John Deere Items.

Bill is survived by his children, Jason, Shawn, Mike and Emily; his brother, Berlyn Leon (Phyllis) Fisher of Arcanum; his sisters, Bertha Magrace (Larry) Fair of Sabina and Marcia Y. Nixon of Arcanum; his grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Varsanyi, age 96 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:35 PM Tuesday July 4, 2017 at the Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio. Elizabeth was born August 30, 1920 in Hungary Europe and the daughter of the late Agoston and Julianna (Forhecz) Dobesh.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Greenville and years ago cooked and kept house for the nuns of the church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Nandor A. Varsanyi April 18, 1983. They were married March 4, 1942.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Nandor I. (Paula) Varsanyi of Celina and Fred (Anne) Varsanyi of Columbus; her nephew who she raised Mihaly Polczer of Hoboken, Georgia; grandchildren Amy (Brent) Demoray, Michelle (Steve) Jones, Julie Varsanyi, Michael (Meagan) Varsanyi, Alison Varsanyi, Nicholas (Missy) Varsanyi, Pamela Shepherd, Laura Ahrens and Jennifer Lyons; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday July 8, 2017 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White officiating. George L. Gigandet age 79, of Versailles passed away at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. George was born November 19, 1937, in Darke County to the late Leonard W. & Lucille (Smith) Gigandet.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn C. (Yagle) Gigandet whom he married February 22, 1958; children, Sharon L. & Tim Barga of Versailles, Bruce Gigandet of Dayton and Tom & Mindy Gigandet of Versailles; grandchildren, Adam & Katie Barga, Shanan Barga, Courtney & Wes Drees, Zach Barlage and Josh Barlage; great-grandchildren, Arian, Ace and Archie Drees; sisters & brothers-in-law, Shelia & Jim Didier of Versailles and Karon & Lyle Crowell of Versailles; sister-in-law, Myrna Gigandet of Versailles; brother-in-law, Don Yagle of Ansonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob, Norman and Jerry Gigandet; sisters-in-law, Dortha Drake, Edith Richhart, Mary Emma Wright, Ruby Yagle, Nancy Yagle and Joan Gigandet; brothers-in-law, Bill Yagle, Sam Yagle, Forest Drake and Jack Richhart.

George retired from Versailles Schools where he was a custodian and bus driver. George also farmed with Tim Rhoades for 11 years. George was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and a Golden Eagle member of the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2347.

Neil Edward Grimes, 59, of Union City, Ohio, passed away early Wednesday morning at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.

Neil was born October 12, 1957 in Winchester, Indiana, to the late Chalmer and Mary (Hampton) Vanata.

In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Violet Hampton; and his brother, Terry Hampton.

Neil spent years as a food vender traveling from town to town working all the fairs and festivals.

Neil is survived by his children and their spouses, Robby and Shannon Grimes of Selma, Indiana, Kelly Grimes and Michael Johnson of Gettysburg, Ohio; siblings and their spouses, Patricia Grimes of Miami, Florida, Charles Grimes and Kathy McCarthy of Elkhart, Indiana, Scott Vanata of Union City, Ohio, John and Mari Vanata of Union City, Ohio; his ex-wife, Tena Richards of Greenville; four grandchildren, Emily Grimes, Jason and Logan Studevant, and Harlie Johnson. Neil also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Carol Hampton of Union City, Indiana, numerous nieces, nephews, his best friend Nick Chanos and his beloved cat Buckeye.
