Claudia F. Denlinger (February 27, 2010)

Claudia F. Denlinger, 71, of Greenville, went to be with her Lord Saturday evening, February 27, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Buffalo, NY daughter of the late Francis and Helen (Stocking) Robison. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Matthew Norris and Sarah Weidner.

Claudia had worked as a merchandiser for American Greetings and was well known as "The Card Lady", having serviced numerous stores in the Darke County area. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ray A. Denlinger, whom she married August 2, 1958; daughters, Donna Satterfield of Oak Ridge, TN, Karen (Phil) Cheshire of Lakeland, FL, June (Tal) Mong of Pitsburg and Beth (Eric) Weidner of Brookville; grandchildren, Cory Norris, Janee' Thompson, Caitlin Satterfield, Katrina Satterfield, Benjamin Cheshire, Nicholas Cheshire, Joseph Cheshire, Emily Weidner and Alex Weidner; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Gary Robison of Cleveland; and two sisters, Marcia Rust of Cleveland and Penny Bealer of Pierpont, OH.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Dan Denlinger officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Arlington Cemetery near Brookville.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society.

Vrina E. Grimes (February 26, 2010)

Mrs. Vrina Elizabeth Grimes age 92 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday February 26, 2010 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. She was born June 5, 1917 in Oak Hill, Ohio the daughter of the late Thomas & Vrina (Jones) Davis.

She retired from Superior Implement & Supply Company Inc. where she was secretary/treasurer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, Ohio where she was an Elder & was in the adult Bible class. She was an honorary member of the elite Literary Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Marion E. Grimes whom she married September 16, 1938; Son: Edward M. Grimes; Daughter: Donna McConaha; Sisters: Jan Gladys Vance, Margaret Davis, & Ceynor Jones.

She is survived by her Daughter & son in law: Vrina & Gary Stebbins of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Son in law: Jerry McConaha of Versailles; Grandchildren & spouses: Greg & Phyllis Stebbins of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Molly & Chris Mumaw of Versailles, Matthew & Jennifer McConaha of Columbus; Great grandchildren: Scott & Randy Stebbins of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jayden, Jillian & Jocelyn Mumaw of Versailles, Mason & Cole McConaha of Columbus; Sister: Wynn Burke of Ellenton, Florida.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church 114 East Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Dr. John Person & Pastor Peter Menke officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service at the church. Private burial will be in Greenville Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals, State of the Heart Hospice, or First Presbyterian Church.

Arlene E. Shiverdecker (February 26, 2010)

Arlene E. (Hauberg) Shiverdecker age 73 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday February 26, 2010 at 6:06 AM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio after battling cancer for the past 2 years.

Arlene was born on Leap Year’s Day of 1936 in Winona Minnesota to the late Victor A. & Mabel S. (Fenney) Hauberg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Michael (Mick) Shiverdecker; Brother: Herbert C. Hauberg; and an infant sister Beatrice in 1932

Arlene and her husband were married December 17, 1954 and it lasted for 42 years before his untimely death in 1996. Together they had 4 children who survive her. Debra Shiverdecker and her friend Jane Johnston, Cynthia (Cindy) Enicks, Susan & W. Douglas Taylor & David & Connie Shiverdecker. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Doug Taylor & Tracy & Steve Bailey; 2 Step Grandchildren: Holli & Nick Anderson; 2 great grandchildren: Parker & Kaylyn Bailey; 2 step great grandchildren: Kyla & Gavin Gerace; 2 Brothers: Victor F. Hauberg of Brookville, Indiana, & Allen B. Hauberg of Greenville, along with numerous nieces & nephews.

Mrs. Shiverdecker was virtually a native to Greenville having moved here in June of 1941 when her father became employed at the General Athletic Co. She was educated in the Greenville School, graduating from GHS, class of 1954. During her early married years she was an active homemaker along with being quite involved as a Girl Scout Leader. In 1969 she was hired by the city and became the Police Department’s first fully accredited female officer. Her primary responsibility was focused on metered parking enforcement. She finally retired from the Police Department in 1995 after 26 years of service. During her early retirement years she was an enthusiastic traveler with EZ Journey Travel organization and visited numerous locations in the continental US along with trips to Europe, Alaska, Canada, & Australia.

Additionally Arlene was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Greenville where she spent many hours as a volunteer member of the congregation. She was also a member of the Darke County Historical Society doing volunteer work at Garst Museum.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday March 2, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 131 East Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday March 1, 2010 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio and a ½ hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or State of the Heart Hospice.

Robert S. Kincaid (February 26, 2010)

Robert Shawn Kincaid, 29, of Greenville, passed away Friday morning, February 26, 2010 of injuries sustained in an auto accident on US Rt. 127 north of Castine.

He was born in Greenville, son of Marlena (Kincaid) Leonard and Tom Houdeshell of Greenville.

Shawn was employed at Spartech Plastics in Greenville. He was a graduate of Greenville Senior High School in 2000.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a son, Ashtun Kincaid of Greenville; brothers and sisters, Ashley (fiancee, Nathan Moore) Houdeshell, Bryan (Debra) Houdeshell, John (Tara Brewer) Houdeshell, Jacob (Sabrina Conrad) Houdeshell, Noah Houdeshell, Alexis Kincaid and Joe Smith all of Greenville; his fiancee, Denise Cook and her children, Ian, Eli and Rose Cook of Greenville; his best friends, Alex Fugate and Jeremy Lower; and numerous, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held Thursday, March 4 at 2 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be given to a special fund to help Shawn's son c/o Member's Choice Credit Union in Greenville.

John Miller, Jr. (February 23, 2010)

Mr. John Miller Jr. age 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio. He was born March 20, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late John & Helen (Kincess) Miller Sr. He worked at Corning Glass for 15 years retiring in 1992. He served in the United States Naval Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Sisters: Ann Kershner, Betty Wimsey, & Barbara Hardiman.

He is survived by his wife: Phyllis R. (Lease) Miller of Greenville whom he married September 20, 1947; his daughters & son in law: Dena R. & Robert Nelsen of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Annice E. Miller of Minneapolis, Mn.; Step granddaughters: Alexandra Nelsen & Vanessa Nelsen; Brothers: George Miller of Brookville, Ohio, & Ernest Miller of Englewood, Ohio; & numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Friday February 26, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday and from 12:00 to 1:30 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Carl A. Hill (February 21, 2010)

Carl A. Hill, 63, of Coldwater, Michigan passed away on February 21, 2010 at Community Health Center in Coldwater, Michigan. Carl was born in Greenville, Ohio on April 25, 1946 son of the late Rolland and Mary Irene (Schlechty) Hill.

Carl will always be remembered for his wit and sense of humor. Everyone that met him became his friend, and he was never known to have met a stranger. Carl was someone who put everyone else’s needs before himself. He loved to golf and was an avid hunter and fisherman who always enjoyed the outdoors. His fishing stories, love of 60’s and 70’s music and giving people nicknames will be greatly missed.

Carl graduated with an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Greenville Manufacturing, Union City Body Company, and Dana Corporation as an Electrician, and at Alcoa Closures (Silcon Container) as the head of maintenance. Carl served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and was a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Carl is survived by his wife Lois J. “Honey Bunny” (Dowler) Hill; one son, Scott “Samuel” and wife Sonya “Favorite Daughter-In-Law” Hill of Hollansburg, Ohio; one daughter, Lorraine “Potsy” Hill-Koch and fiancĂ©, Tony “Tony Maronie” Akers of Coldwater, Michigan; five grandchildren, Alexandria “Sugie” Koch, MacKenzie “Peanut” Koch, Noah “Noah Coboah” Pervis, Kylee “Ky Ky” Akers and Dom “Dom Mega” Akers; two brothers, Rodney and his wife Patricia Hill of Greenville, Ohio and Edward and wife Carol Hill of New Madison; one sister, Bernadette McMaken of Nashville, TN; special friends, Robert and Lorraine Spatola of Rochester, New York, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Storch Braund Funeral Home from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with the Rev. George Taylor being asked to officiate. A veteran tribute will end the service with the Darke County Honor Guard officiating.

David C. Karr (February 21, 2010)

David Christopher Karr age 59 of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Gade Health Care Center in Greenville. He was born on January 13, 1951.

David graduated from Greenville Senior High School, Class of 1970. David was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds Baseball and Cincinnati Bengals Football Teams.

David is survived by his parents, Cleo & Jane (McFarland) Karr; sister & brother-in-law, Deborah & Jeff Reeder; several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews who loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating. William F. Miller age 58 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 9:32 P.M. on Friday, February 19, 2010 at his residence. William was born January 1, 1952 in Colville, Washington, to the late Forest H. & Delores Jean (Harms) Miller.

William was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge #143 F & AM.
In addition to his parents, William is also preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Miller.

Velma P. Trump, 95, of Arcanum, died early Saturday morning, February 20, 2010 at Rest Haven , Greenville. Mrs. Trump was born in Darke County on November 29, 1914, the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl May (Fryman) Krickenbarger. Velma was the widow of Charles W. Trump who died December 17, 1983. She was a farm wife and a homemaker and a member of the former Castine United Methodist Church. Velma was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Garber, Kathryn Ridenour, and Mary Sleppy, brothers William and Harold Krickenbarger. Roberta J. Scheiding (February 18, 2010)

Roberta J. Scheiding, age 69 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:46 P.M. Thursday February 18, 2010 at her residence. Roberta was born April 29, 1940 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Wilbur & Kathryn (Wills) Musselman.

She was retired having worked for 37 years at Whirlpool of Greenville and also had worked for many years as a waitress in the Greenville area.
Roberta enjoyed playing Bingo with her many friends and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her lst husband—James Neargardner and her 2 sisters—Janet Musselman and Judy Timmons.

Roberta is survived by daughters and son in law—Deb & Bill Ross of Ansonia and Kelly Scheiding of Versailles. Grandchilren—Amy Locke, Adam & Ashlea Locke, Dusty Jones, David Fitzgerald, Craig Gengler. Great grandchildren—Evan Locke, Owen Locke, Mikey Locke, Avalyn Locke and Elly Locke.

Lenore F. Carr (February 12, 2010)

Mrs. Lenore F. (Fourman) Carr, 97 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 10:30 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on December 30, 1912 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Clifford & Mable (Moses) Fourman.

Lenore was a homemaker and a nurse by profession. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and Elite Club. She was an avid bridge player, loved music and reading and really enjoyed traveling.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Merton Carr.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Jane & Robert Williamson of Greenville, Ohio; son and daughter in law, Richard & Peggy Carr of Brigham City, Utah; grandchildren, Pamela Turner, Richard (Gwen) Carr Jr., Jennifer Dominquez, Tim (Pam) McNutt and Carol Leatherman; and 9 great grandchildren.

There will be a service held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 131 E. 4th St., Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville.

Lloyd D. Williams (February 9, 2010)

Mr. Lloyd D. Williams, age 83 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:38 P.M. Tuesday February 9, 2010 at the Miami Valley Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Lloyd was born February 4, 1927 in Milan, Ohio. He was the son of the late Fred and Mary (Oetzell) Williams.

Lloyd was raised on a farm in Milan, with his twin brother and two sisters. He was a 1945 graduate of the Milan High School and twenty days later he and his brother joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1947, after discharge from the Air Force, he attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Administration Degree in ceramic engineering, class of 1951. While at Ohio State University, he was the co-captain of the lacrosse team and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Following graduation, Lloyd was employed for 27 years at Corning Glass company and then in 1978 he founded the JAFE Decorating Company of Greenville and was still serving as the CEO and owner of the company.

He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Greenville as well as the Men’s Fellowship of the church, the Greenville Country Club and the Board of Directors of the club, former member of the Board of Directors of the Darke County Chamber of Commerce and had served on numerous other boards including Hospice of Darke County, an active volunteer with the Meals On Wheels program, the Darke County Ohio State University Alumni group and the Darke County Republican’s Men’s Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betsye Arien “Dodie” (Metcalf) Williams in May 14, 2002. They were married February 27, 1955. Also by his Twin Brother Floyd J. Williams.

Lloyd is survived by sons and daughters in law—Jeff and Kathy Williams of Greenville and Fred and Julie Williams of Winston Salem, N.C. Also daughters and son in law—Amey and Greg Gow of Estero, Fla. And Emilia “Charlie” Williams of Brisbane, Australia. Grandchildren—Stacie Williams, Cris Williams, Cory Williams, Jeremy Williams, Casey Williams, Isaac Williams, Ben Williams and Abby Williams. Great Grandchildren—Evan Sudduth and Kellen Williams. His two sisters—Clara Maurus of Cleveland, Ohio and Eleanor Dillon of Milan, Ohio. A special friend “Tot” Heinrichs of Greenville.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday February 20, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church 202 West Fourth Street Greenville, Ohio with the Rev. Joe Payne officiating. The family will receive friends in the church immediately following the memorial service.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to the First United Methodist Church.

Alexa Smith (February 11, 2010)

Alexa Morgan Smith, 2, of Union City, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 1:43 AM at Children’s Medical Center of Dayton, Ohio. She was born on July 16, 2007 in Breese, Illinois to Leonard & Autumn (Rinehart) Smith Jr. of Union City, Indiana.

Alexa is preceded in death by her grandmothers, Rhonda Harrison and Betty Rinehart.

In addition to her parents she is survived by her brothers, Xazier Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Leonard Smith III; twin sister, Alysa Smith; sisters, Tara Smith and Ariana Smith all live at home; grandparents, Rob Rinehart Jr. of Greenville, Illinois, Cathy & Phil Stout of Clay City, Illinois, and Marie Miller of Carlyle, Illinois; great grandparents, Meldora Harrison of Union City, Indiana, Rita & Cal Stickle of Mattoon, Illinois and Robert Rinehart Sr. of Mattoon, Illinois.

Hershel McIntosh age 72 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away on Wednesday February 10, 2010. He was born March 21, 1937 in Booneville, Kentucky, the son of Carman (Murral) McIntosh of Booneville, Kentucky and the late Jeff McIntosh.

He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church and the Dayton Northwest Camp of Gideon International. He was employed 25 years at Dayton Press and retired from Arcanum Welding.

He is preceded in death by his father; Great Grandson: Jereme Kreitzer; Brothers: Ed & Ted McIntosh.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Grace (Fields) McIntosh of Arcanum; Daughters & sons in law: Wanda & Jerry Fitzpatrick of Springfield, Ohio, Linda & Doug Daniels of Springfield, Ohio; Grandchildren & spouses: Jennifer & Jimmy Williams, Joe Kreitzer, Steve & Susan Kreitzer, Ray Cordell, Rick Cordell; Great Grandchildren & Spouse: Matthew & Leslie Rutherford, Eric Rutherford, Cameron Cordell, Steven Kreitzer, Cara Kreitzer, Isaac Kreitzer, Isaiah Kreitzer; Great great granddaughter: Emmy Rutherford; Brothers: Freddie McIntosh of Booneville, Kentucky, Donald McIntosh of Booneville, Kentucky; and many friends and relatives who are left to morn his death.

Donald J. Dull (February 11, 2010)

Donald J. Dull, 85, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

He was born in Arcanum, son of the late Cletus J. and Myrtle M (Rose) Dull. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Blanche M. Neff and Helen Margerum.

Don was retired from farming and was a self-employed owner of an electrical and insulation business.

He was a member of the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church. A former member of the Wayne Trail Grange and a former Scout Master for Troop 276 of South School in Greenville. He was a volunteer at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, D. Imogene (Schlechty), whom he married on September 7, 1946; children, Captain Timothy J. (Carole) Dull of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas C. Dull of Los Angels, CA, Terry L. (Mindy) Dull of Brookville, OH, Theodore (Phyllis) Dull of Dallas, TX and Tamara J. (Daryl) Printz of Arcanum; grandchildren, Jennifer, Josh, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Deanna, Darren and Daniel; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers Howard Dull of Ocela, FL and Warren C. Dull of Greenville; and a sister, Betty Patterson of Brookville.

Private services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Chaplain Bob Bitner officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given the Resident's Aid Fund at the Brethren Retirement Community.

Blaine Clark (February 11, 2010)

Blaine Clark, 81, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:35 AM at his daughters residence in Zanesfield, Ohio. He was born on May 14, 1928 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late John and Della (Devilbiss) Clark.


Blaine worked as a Mail Carrier in Greenville and also worked at Greenville National Bank as a courier. Blaine loved to bowl, golf and play cards and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Clark whom he married in July of 1949; a son and daughter; grandson, Eric Clark; and 9 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Elaine and Greg McKay of Zanesfield, Ohio; son and daughter in law, Alan and Carol Clark of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Dan McKay, Joel McKay, Brian Clark and Ben Clark; brother, John Clark of Greenville, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 2:30 PM at Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio, with Mr. Tim Miller officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions can be given to the donor’s choice.

Mary Rush (February 8, 2010)

Mary Jean (Williams) Rush, 73, of Union City, Ohio passed away on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:21 PM at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on April 27, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Everett Louis and Ruth Anne (Sparks) Williams. Mary Jean was a babysitter and a homemaker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel A. Rush Jr. whom she married on November 5, 1960, brother, George Williams and brother in law, Greg West.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Scott A. and Susan A. Rush of Union City, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael A. Rush and Jalisa M. Rush; brother and sister in law, Charles and Denise Williams of Georgia; sisters and brother in law, Sandra West of Tennessee and Cheryl and Glenn Chadwick of North Carolina as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville with Pastor Don Brenneman officiating. There will be no interment. Family will receive friends Saturday from 9-11 AM at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be given to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Union City, Indiana.

Miles J. Swabb (February 9, 2010)

Miles J. Swabb, 85, of New Madison went to be with the Lord and his wife, Isabel on February 9, 2010 at his residence. Miles was born February 17, 1924, son of the late Waldo and Dorothy (Duval) Swabb.

Miles worked for Conrail Railroads and later retired from there after many years of service. He was a self employed plumber and worked for the Village of New Madison in the Water Department. Some of the loves of his life included camping, wood working, farming, mushroom hunting and watching the wildlife in his back yard. Miles always enjoyed spending time sitting around with family and telling stories. He was very active member of the Ft. Black Masonic Lodge #413 of New Madison, serving as Worshipful Master five times. Miles was a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton.

Miles served in the United States Navy from February 8, 1943 until is honorable discharge on February 3, 1946. He served honorably as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in WWII earning the African-European-Middle Eastern with one star, American Area Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.

In addition to his parents, Miles is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel, who passed away on October 10, 2009; two brothers, Waldo Swabb, Jr. and John Swabb; three sisters, Beulah Long, Phyllis Monnier and Gail Pence.

Miles is survived by a son, Steve (Carol) Swabb of Castine; two daughters, Bonnie (Chris) Laux and Saundra (Carl) Hoover, both of New Madison; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Shelly) Swabb, Denis Swabb, Shannan (Fred) Marshall, and Miles Stump all of New Madison, Danielle Stump of Greenville, Laura Irish (Luke Scowcroft) of Nelson, New Zealand and Brandon Irish of Illinois; six great grandchildren, Nathan Swabb, Michael Marshall, Levi Stump, Erica Borne, Teagan Stump, and Elijah Scowcroft; and a sister, Mary (Jerry) Cassell of Gray, Tennessee.

The family will receive guests on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 4 – 7 PM at Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison with a Masonic and Scottish Rite Service beginning at 6:45 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM also at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric Fee being asked to officiate. A veteran tribute will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery with the Darke County Honor Guard officiating.

Dora M. Howard (February 10, 2010)

Dora M. Howard, 93, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Gade Health Care Center in Greenville.

She was born in Randolph County, IN, daughter of the late John and Virgie (Zeller) Rodeheffer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel in 1968; 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

A homemaker, Dora was a member of the Greenville Missionary Church.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Parker, Glenna Howard, H. Leon Howard, J. Keith (Carol) Howard, D. Marvin (Delorce) Howard and Tony L. (Vicki) Howard all of Greenville; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Doris McCullough of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday, February 15 at 2 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 12 p.m. till 2 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.

William A. "Bill" Rogers (February 7, 2010)

William A. "Bill" Rogers, 69, of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 7, 2010.

He was born in Columbus, OH, son of the late Richard H. and LaVerne E. (Dewald) Rogers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard H. Rogers.

Bill owned and operated Bill Rogers' Carpet and Bill Rogers' California Beds and Bedrooms both in Greenville.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, and had attended Ohio State University.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Michael A. (and fiancee Megan R. Dixon) Rogers, Jennifer A. (Peter S.) Garcia, Kristen G. (Christopher J.) Lohr, William E. Rogers, Karen M. Olivier and John A. (Deborah) Rogers; 3 grandchildren, Bevin Shipley Rogers, Sydney Rogers, and Amanda Rae Rogers, and 1 great grandchild, Elizabeth Mary Issacs; a brother, John E. Rogers; and sisters, Jeanne Federer and Marilyn Bibby.

Private services will be held at a later date.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.

Agnus L. Stebner (February 4, 2010)

Agnus L. (Weiss) Stebner, 87, of New Paris passed away on February 4, 2010 at the Rose Gate Village in Richmond, Indiana. Agnus was born on December 2, 1922 in East Prussia, Germany, daughter of the late Franz and Augusta (Grunan) Weiss.

Agnus moved to New Jersey in 1952, where she retired as a Production Planner for Unisys (previously Burroughs). She then moved to Rocky Mount, Virginia and later in 2000 moved to Ohio. Agnus loved church and was passionate about missions. She had a servant’s heart, always wanting to give and never take. Agnus also loved to crochet.

Agnus was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Stebner, whom she married on January 8, 1941. Kurt passed away in 1995.

Agnus is survived by two daughters, Karin A. Stebner–Meister of Phoenix, Arizona and Regina “Gina” Moore and husband Mark of New Paris; one son, Udo “Joe” Joachim Stebner and wife Susie of Kandern, Germany; five grandchildren, Melissa Meister of Tucson, Arizona, Amy Stebner of Richmond, Indiana, J. Scott Stebner of Richmond, Indiana, Lukas Moore of New Paris, and Andrew and wife Lacy Moore of New Madison; and two great grandchildren, Caitlin and Clara Moore of New Madison.

There will be private services at the convenience of the family and burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Family asked that memorial contributions be given to support Joe and Susie Stebner serving at an international Christian school, Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany. Donations will be accepted at Cedar Grove Church.

Phyllis R. Arnold (February 2, 2010)

Mrs. Phyllis Ruth Arnold, 77, of Greenville, Ohio, passed on Tuesday, February 02, 2010, at 9:24 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on December 2, 1932 in Horatio, Ohio to the late Ernest & Ruby (Kissell) Dickey.

Phyllis was retired from the Brethren Retirement Community as a Nurses Aid after 34 years of service. She was a member of the Woodington Congregational Christian Church and also attended the Trinity Wesleyan Church. Phyllis really enjoyed cooking as well as playing the organ and singing.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dean “Dick” Arnold whom she married on May 8, 1948 and a brother, Robert Dickey.

She is survived by her children & spouses: Linda & Barry Blanton of Greenville, Diana & Ted Ross of Orlando, Florida, Marion & Judy Arnold of Greenville, Gary Arnold of Greenville; Grandchildren & spouses: Barry Blanton II & Fiancée Kimberly Crowe, Tawni & Layne Cress, Mark Ross, Lisa & Logan West, Jennifer & Jay Abercrombie, Kyle & Jenni Ross, James & Leslie Arnold, Derek Arnold & Fiancée Crystal Dugan, & Sunny Arnold; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; brothers, Don Dickey of Brookville, Ohio and Francis Dickey of Lambertville, MI; sister, Lois Smith of Fairborn, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda K. Reck, 56, of Greenville (Coletown), died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Miss Reck was born in Greenville, Ohio on June 19, 1953, the daughter of the late Minor and Wanda L. (Wheeler) Reck. She was employed as a Machinist at Teco Manufacturing, Union and at the former JV Products, Arcanum. Linda was a member of the Moose Lodge, Greenville and the American Legion, Greenville. She is survived by her Fiancé Chris "Tank" Winn of Greenville; Brothers Tim Reck and wife Carol of Arcanum and Bill Reck of Piqua; Aunts and Uncles; Nieces and Nephews; and a Great Niece. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev. Gordon Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery. Ferne E. Thomas (February 1, 2010)

Mrs. Ferne E. Thomas, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:55 P.M. Monday February 1, 2010 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home of Greenville. Ferne was born August 6, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late True & Gertrude (Flatter) Flommersfeld.

Ferne was retired, having worked at the Early Bird, the former Warren Street Market and Williams Butcher Shop.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Greenville and was Past Matron of the Ft. Greenville #406 Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother—True Flommersfeld and sister—Mary Esther Hoblit.

Ferne is survived by her husband Charles H. Thomas of Greenville. They were married October 15, 1941. Also survived by sons and daughter in law—Pat (Kim) Thomas of Kenton, Ohio and Scott Thomas of Fredericksburg, Va., and daughter and son in law—Sue (Keith) Schlechty of Greenville. Grandchildren and spouses—Debbie Fornshill, Troy (Linda) Wombold, Pat (Kelly) Thomas, Gina Thomas, Angie (Wayne) Hughes, Megan Thomas, Stacey Thomas and Ben Harruff. Also 14 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sister in law—Betty Flommersfeld of Greenville and brother in law—Cliff Hoblit of Greenville.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday February 5, 2010 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery Greenville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 until 7 P.M. in the funeral home.

John T. Dohse (January 30, 2010)

UPDATE: the Dohse visitation and funeral has been moved to Monday morning. The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. and the visitation will be one hour before at the Zechar-Bailey Funeral Home.

John T. Dohse peacefully entered his heavenly home at age 84 at 9:55 p.m. on January 30, 2010 with members of his family by his side. John was a devout member all of his life of St. John's Lutheran Church.

"Dobber," as he was known to his close friends, was a lifelong resident of Darke County and a proud World War II veteran. He worked at the Ansonia Lumber Company much of his adult life and once claimed that he had sold the building materials for over half the barns and farm buildings in the county. An avid supporter of Greenville and Ansonia High School sports, he was a fixture at Greenville football games and wrestling matches for the last 40 years.

John is survived by his wife, Elaine, of sixty years. Together they raised five children: Fred (wife Dede) of Aiken, SC; Ted of Orlando, FL; Virginia Kagey (husband Kyle) of Greenville; Mike (wife Linda) of Spartanburg, SC; and Chris of Brooklyn, NY. John was a beloved and revered grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Andy Dohse, Becky (Dohse) McCarthy, Emily (Dohse) Oglesby, Amy (Kagey) Garrison, Molly Kagey, Ben Dohse and Ryan Dohse, and his eleven great grandchildren. John is also survived by two sisters Mary Buxton, Versailles, and Joanne Campbell, San Jose, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ella (Deubner) Dohse and older brother, Paul.

There will be a service held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Alan Knoke officiating. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery, Ansonia, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. There will be a full military service conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor at funeral home.

Michael Rihm (January 30, 2010)

Michael Rihm, 59, of Greenville went to be with God on Saturday, January 30, 2010. He was the most amazing man who touched many lives.

Michael is survived by his wife: Connie Rihm; his children: Laura (Joel) Schaefer, Lisa (John) Morris and Adam (Sarah) Rihm; mother: Mary Rihm; mother in law: Mary Brinley; his brother: Doug (Joyce) Rihm and sister: Roxann (Dan) Leeper; brother in law: Steve (Kelly) Brinley; sister in law: Diana (Mike) Floyd; grandchildren: Kayla, Kody, Evan, Toni, Kaysi, Brandon, and Payton; step-grandchildren: Robert, Leslie, Alaina, Jason, Natalie, Crystal, Gavin, Kylee, Hope, Jordan, Sam and Jacob; great grandchildren: Hayli and Carson. He was an uncle to ten children and a great uncle to thirteen. Michael was preceded in death by his father: William Rihm and his father in law: Raymond Brinley Jr.

He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Capital University in 1997 receiving a Bachelors degree. He retired from Honewell in 2005 after thirty four years of service.

Michael loved people and touched many lives as a husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and mentor. He was his family's guiding light with a love that was bigger than life.

Private funeral services will be held with burial at Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Akron Children’s Hospital and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Arrangements are in care of the Zechar Bailey funeral home.

Jeannie Finnarn (January 30, 2010)

Jeannie (Kelman) Finnarn, 87, Greenville, Ohio died at 6:55 P.M., January 30, 2010 at Oakley House, Greenville.

Jeannie Finnarn was born September 29, 1922 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the daughter of the late James and Isabelle (MacDonald) Kelman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore L. Finnarn, (date of death February 8, 2003) whom she married May 12, 1945 in Aberdeen Scotland during WWII. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy (Finnarn) Subler and a son-in-law, John Wells, and all of her brothers and sisters, William, James, Nancy, Andy, Betty and Helen.
She was a veteran of WWII having served in Great Britain’s Nursing Corps and was a Registered Nurse (RN) having practiced in England, Scotland and at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

She was a member of the Darke, Ohio and National Farmers Union, having attended many state and national conventions with her husband and participated in several lobbying trips to Washington, D.C. to promote the rights and interest of family farmers. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and was active in the past in the Church’s Women’s Association. She was also a past member of the Darke County Democrat Women’s Club.

Survivors include the following: son and daughter-in-law, Theodore O. and Holly Finnarn of Greenville; daughter, Janis J. Wells of rural Arcanum; grandchildren, James B. Subler, Jr., Shawn Finnarn Wilson, Theodore O. Finnarn, Jr., Thomas A. Finnarn, Alex Finnarn and Alison Finnarn; and great grandchildren, Ryan James Subler, Nathan Bradley Subler, Zoe Wilson and David Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, 114 East Fourth Street, Greenville with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio and Thursday one hour prior to services at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenville Public Library Capital Building Campaign or to the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville.

Mae S. Fraley (February 1, 2010)

Mae S. (Brown) Fraley, 87, of Greenville passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Mae was born March 1, 1922 in Grove, Kentucky, daughter of the late Cecil and Lou (Cummings) Brown.

Mae was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ for over 55 years. Mae enjoyed cooking and serving at her church.

In addition to her parents, Mae is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Millard “Rab” Fraley who passed away on February 7, 2008 and a grandchild, Kriss Fraley.

Mae is survived by two sons, Doug and Judy Fraley of Peck, Kansas and Dale and Karen Fraley of West Manchester, Ohio; one brother, Willis Brown of Taylor, Michigan; two sisters, Jewel Kemplin of Sandy Hook, Kentucky and Mae Harrison of Spring City, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at the Palestine Church of Christ in Palestine, Ohio. The funeral services will be on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM also at the church, with the Rev. Mike Simmons being asked to officiate. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Palestine Church of Christ.
