Miles J. Swabb, 85, of New Madison went to be with the Lord and his wife, Isabel on February 9, 2010 at his residence. Miles was born February 17, 1924, son of the late Waldo and Dorothy (Duval) Swabb.
Miles worked for Conrail Railroads and later retired from there after many years of service. He was a self employed plumber and worked for the Village of New Madison in the Water Department. Some of the loves of his life included camping, wood working, farming, mushroom hunting and watching the wildlife in his back yard. Miles always enjoyed spending time sitting around with family and telling stories. He was very active member of the Ft. Black Masonic Lodge #413 of New Madison, serving as Worshipful Master five times. Miles was a 32nd degree Mason of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton.
Miles served in the United States Navy from February 8, 1943 until is honorable discharge on February 3, 1946. He served honorably as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in WWII earning the African-European-Middle Eastern with one star, American Area Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
In addition to his parents, Miles is preceded in death by his wife, Isabel, who passed away on October 10, 2009; two brothers, Waldo Swabb, Jr. and John Swabb; three sisters, Beulah Long, Phyllis Monnier and Gail Pence.
Miles is survived by a son, Steve (Carol) Swabb of Castine; two daughters, Bonnie (Chris) Laux and Saundra (Carl) Hoover, both of New Madison; seven grandchildren, Shawn (Shelly) Swabb, Denis Swabb, Shannan (Fred) Marshall, and Miles Stump all of New Madison, Danielle Stump of Greenville, Laura Irish (Luke Scowcroft) of Nelson, New Zealand and Brandon Irish of Illinois; six great grandchildren, Nathan Swabb, Michael Marshall, Levi Stump, Erica Borne, Teagan Stump, and Elijah Scowcroft; and a sister, Mary (Jerry) Cassell of Gray, Tennessee.
