Ronald "Gene" Smith, Jr. (May 28, 2021)

Ronald "Gene" Smith, Jr., 61, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on May 28, 2021, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana.

Gene was born on August 30, 1959, in Greenville, to Ronald and Betty (Thompson) Smith of Greenville.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Walters in 2017.

Gene was many things to many people; a great husband and father, reliable friend. He always provided for his family and would never let them go without anything. He loved golfing. His favorite place in the world is Hilton Head Island, where he would go every year. He enjoyed the Great Darke County Fair and parked cars for 15 years. He was Darla's "Cookie Monster", Oreo cookies were his absolute favorite. His loves were his children and grandchildren; his heart was his pet children, Cuddles and Oreo.

Gene is survived by his wife of 14 years, Darla (Roth) Smith, whom he married May 26, 2007; his children, Dustin Smith of Greenville, Andrew (Jeeni) Walters, of Plum Branch, South Carolina, and Crystal (Lucas) Skeens, of Plum Branch; his grandchildren, Josilynne Smith, Azya Walters, Maddalyn Walters, Samantha Skeens, Kohen Kolb, Kenzie Kolb, Braydon Skeens and Graycelynn Walters; his siblings, Debra (Jeffrey) Steele of Troy, Ohio, Gary (Elizabeth) Smith of Troy, and Lori (Don) Brown of Lewisburg, Ohio; countless neices, nephews and friends.

A celebration of Gene's life will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Fireside Resort, 6236 Shade Road, Greenville, Ohio.

Following Gene's memorial service, there will be a reception and time to visit and fellowship until 4PM.

Edna E. Sander (June 3, 2021)

Edna E. Sander, 94 of Centerburg, Ohio and formerly of Greenville, passed away on Thursday June 3, 2021 at 1:24 AM at Centerburg pointe.  Edna was born July 4, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky the daughter of the late Randolph and Mary (Jones) Mullins.

Edna was a homemaker and worked for 25 years at Rest Haven as a Nursing Assistant.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church; served on the Altar Guild; and Women of E.L.C.A.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Lester E. Sander on October 30, 1986; her daughter: Linda Kinnison; brothers: Vern and James Mullins; sisters: Roberta Fair and Hazel Neal.

Edna is survived by her daughter and son in law:  Peggy and Kim Weiss of Centerburg, Ohio; son in law and spouse: Jim and Joy Kinnison; grandchildren:  Jessica (Kinnison) Donthnier, Amanda (Kinnison) Jett, Dustin Kinnison, Jessica (Weiss) McDevitt, Brent Weiss; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday June 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Keith McDevitt officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Grace United Church of Christ 1185 Pleasantville Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.

Ruthie Marlene Cummins (May 31, 2021)

Ruthie Marlene Cummins, 84, of Lewisburg, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2021, at Kettering Health in Dayton.

She was born on July 15, 1936, to the late James and Ruth (Grice) Woolery.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard Cummins, whom she married on April 1, 1955; her granddaughter, Jennifer Cummins; her brother, Johnny Woolery; her sister, Juanita Weaver; and her daughter-in-law, Terri Cummins

Ruth was not afraid of hard work and she taught by example. After working many years in the cafeteria and retiring from Twin Valley Public Schools, she embarked on a 38 year run as owner of Cummins Services. Throughout the years, her family would all take part working for her business. She also bred and raised English Bulldogs and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lewisburg. Ruth loved the Christmas season and would leave her Christmas decorations up all year round. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had an open door policy.

Ruth is survived by her children, Richard "Orange" Cummins of New Paris, Ohio, Amy Futrell of Lewisburg, and Anthony "Tony" (Karen) Cummins of New Madison, Ohio; her grandchildren, Nikki (Jesse) Johnson of Ravenna, Ohio, Kelly (Stephen) Klosterman of Camden, Ohio, Jodie Cummins of New Paris, Molly (Terry) Gentry of Arcanum, Ohio, and Cassie (Taryn) Winner of Lexington, North Carolina; and her 10 great grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of her family.

Julia Ann McIntosh (May 21, 2021)

Julia Ann McIntosh, 88, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away, at her home, on Friday, May 21, 2021.

She was born on January 31, 1933, in South Solon, Ohio, to the late Clara (Blake) Hakes.

In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob Cook, Gene Mullins, and Ed McIntosh; her grandson, Tyray Grice; her and her brother, Ronald Hakes.

Julia was proud of her yard and landscaping and loved working in her flower gardens. She worked, for many years, cleaning houses.

Julia is survived by her two children, Robert Lee Cook of Ansonia, Ohio, and Ron Cook of Greenville; her grandchildren, Shannon Cook, Aaron Cook, Amber Cook, Daniel Cook and Jennifer Cook; her 12 great grandchildren; and her nieces, Ada Bohannon of Dayton, Ohio, and Tina Little of West Virginia.

Private graveside services will be held, at the convenience of the family, at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison, Ohio.

Tina Ann Phenis (May 25, 2021)

Tina Ann Phenis, 52, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Village Green Health Campus in Greenville.

She was born on May 21, 1969, in Louisville, Kentucky to Maggie (Dennis) Hammer of Lynn, Indiana, and the late Orin "Pete" Hammer, Jr.

In addition to her father, Tina was preceded in death by her son, Mason Phenis, her grandson, Jaxon, her sister, Tami Mart, and her nephew Josh Profitt.

Tina was always full of life and loved singing for anyone who would listen. Nothing meant more to her than her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and visiting with her family at the reunions. She and her husband, Chris, enjoyed their Tennessee vacations and attending the Darke County Fair, dinner shows, and concerts. Her light filled any room and its absence will be missed.

Tina is survived by her husband of nearly 14 years, Chris Heckman; her daughter Hayley Phenis of Greenville; her grandchildren, Xander, Kynlee, and Mila; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Tina's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the United Pentecostal Church, 460 Elm Street, Winchester, Indiana 47394, with Pastor Greg Pruett officiating.

Tina's family will be receiving guests on Thursday, from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. Following the service, there will be time to visit and fellowship until 5:00 PM at the church.

Terry "Mert" Alan Springer (May 29, 2021)

Terry "Mert" Alan Springer, 67, of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away after a long illness on May 29, 2021, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

He was born on June 5, 1953, in Darke County, to the late Clarence and Dorothy (Hittle) Springer.

Mert is survived by his sister, Joan (Ron) DeMange of Versailles; his nephews, Jesse (Molly) DeMange of Versailles, Jon (Maria) DeMange of Maria Stein, and Jake (Alyssa) DeMange of North Star; his great nieces and nephews, Andrew, Jared, Madalyn, Olivia, Ted, Kate, Margaret, Agatha, Lexie, Emmit, Cale, Ben, Abe, Lea, Stella, and Fulton; his lifelong friend, Ralph Byrd; and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mert was preceded in death by an infant brother; a great nephew and a great niece; and his grandparents, Henry and Anna Hittle and Jesse and Ethel Springer.

Mert graduated from Ansonia High School in 1973. He worked for Weaver Brothers for many years. Mert enjoyed camping, attending Eldora races, and going to the Great Darke County Fair. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Most importantly, Mert loved being with his family and friends.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who helped care for Mert.

A celebration of Mert's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Mert will be laid to rest in Ansonia Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Mary Ellen Monnin (May 28th, 2021)

Mary Ellen Monnin

Age 80, of Russia, passed away Friday, May 28th at her home. She was born on March 21, 1941, in Springfield, Ohio to her parents Francis Marion & Myrtle Louise (Harrison) Ford. Mary graduated from Bradford High School class of 1959. She married Donald L Monnin on July 16, 1960, in Russia. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Frances Marian Zacharias, Patricia Puterbaugh, Jack Ford, Barbara Kendall, brothers-in-law Leslie Monnin, Dale Monnin, Anthony Monnin, sister-in-law Marlene Drees and her in-laws Leroy and Bernice (Peltier) Monnin. 

Mary will be missed and remembered by her husband Donald L Monnin, daughter and son-in-law Lisa & Donley Myers, their daughter Madelyne & Aaron Mullins along with their children Wyatt, Wriley and Wesley, and their son Nicholas Myers. 

Son and daughter-in-law Keith & Rita Monnin along with their children Matthew, his daughter Ava, and their daughter Megan & her fiancĂ© Parker Housman and their expectant baby in June. 

Son Steven Monnin along with his children Christina and Austin. 

Sister-in-law June & Dave Walter, Brother-in-law Wayne & Dana Monnin. 

Mary was a home maker for years. She later worked at Elder Beerman in Piqua in the shoe department and then enjoyed working at Owl Drugs for many years with Merlin Collins and managed Don’s office at A-1 Auto Restoration. She enjoyed gardening, hiking the Miami County Parks with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many weekends camping and boating with the family at the lake. Mary enjoyed her weekly visit with Lisa for lunch, shopping and coffee along with enjoying car shows at Poultry Days with Keith, Steven and their families. She treasured her grandchildren and great grandchildren and visited them frequently.  

Many thanks to Hospice of Miami County, her nurse’s and the several aids that helped Mary through Alzheimer’s. The family is very grateful for Hospice and her granddaughter Madelyne for her special care. 

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Martin Fox officiating. Burial will follow in St. Remy Cemetery in Russia. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County.

Jesse "Jim" James Miller (May 27, 2021)

Jesse "Jim" James Miller, 69, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Richmond, Indiana, on November 21, 1951, to the late Jesse Richard and Jane (Campanale) Miller.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Derick Miller; his brother, Jack Miller; his brother-in-law, Timothy Setser; and his sister in-law, Leona Clark.

Jim was known by his friends as "Squirrel". Jim was a 1971 graduate of Westmont High School in Hollansburg. During high school and in his younger years, Jim could be found playing most every sport. He could be described as a "Sports Fanatic". He had a special love for baseball. When he was able, Jim loved being outdoors and spent much time fishing.

Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vickie (Setser) Miller; his grandson, Draydon Miller; his sister, Cavela (Michael) Schneider of Lexington, Kentucky; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Judy Ward of Kentucky, Earl Setser of Greenville, Kathleen (Barry) Logan of Greenville, and Loretta Setser of Ansonia; as well several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus, with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery.

Jim's family will be receiving guests on Saturday, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Thelma "Marge" Middleton (May 25, 2021)

Thelma "Marge" Middleton, 95, of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville, Ohio.

Marge was born on January 19, 1926, on the family farm north of Rossburg, Ohio, to the late August and Nina (Smith) Singer.

In addition to her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Joe" Middleton, whom she married November 24, 1946; her daughter, Barbara Jo Middleton; and her siblings, Marie Thwaits, Roy, Ben, Carl, Bob, Tom, and Freddie Singer.

Marge loved spending time with and talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her cat Evie. She was a great cook and seamstress. She spent many years working alongside her husband, Joe, in his business, Middleton Stockyards. She attended the New Madison United Methodist Church for over 65 years.

Marge is survived by her daughter, Nancy Miller and her husband, Don, of New Madison; her grandchildren, Matthew Miller and his wife, Alison, of Granville, Ohio, Erin Williams and her husband, Jacob, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Mark Miller and his wife, Darci, of Granville. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren, Tripp, and Bennett Miller, Henry, Margaret, and Samuel Williams, Logan, Savannah, Rebekah, and Emerson Miller; and countless nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Marge's life will be held on at 11AM on  Saturday, May 29, 2021, at New Madison United Methodist Church, 149 N. Main Street, New Madison, Ohio, with Pastors David Richey and Carol Duffield officiating. Burial will follow in Ansonia Cemetery.

Marge's family will be receiving guests on Friday, May 28, 2021, from 5PM to 7PM at the church, and again on Saturday, from 10AM until the time of the service at 11AM.
