Daniel A. “Dan” Nease Jr. (December 30, 2012)

Daniel A. “Dan” Nease Jr., age 81 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:05 A.M. Sunday December 30, 2012 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home Greenville, Ohio. Dan was born September 11, 1931 in Gettysburg, Ohio and the son of the late Daniel & Myrtle (Thomas) Nease Sr.

Dan worked as an accountant for many years following his graduation from Miami University in 1961. He retired from the Hobart Brothers Company in 1993. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. Dan was assigned to the 4th Airways and Air Communications Service I & M Squadron in Freising, Germany.

He was an avid baseball fan throughout his life and competed in baseball, basketball and track while attending Gettysburg High School where he graduated in 1949. In his retirement years he could often be found on one of the local golf courses.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his dear wife Patty Lou “Pat” (Enochs) Nease of 51 years and by his three older brothers, Robert, Donald, and James Nease.

Dan is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Daisy Nease of Dayton, Ohio; a brother-in-law and sister, Donald and Janet Perkins of Huntington, Indiana; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lester and Helen Enochs of Greenville, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Betty Burk of Greenville, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Rita Nease of Chesapeake, VA.; four step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Private Entombment will be held at the Greenville Township Memorial Garden Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends on Friday January 4, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge conducting a Masonic Memorial Service at 7:30 P.M. Friday in the funeral home.

Robert F. McKnight (December 30, 2012)

Robert F. McKnight, age 89 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:28 A.M. Sunday December 30, 2012 at Sterling House. He was born November 3, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio and the son of the late Harley (Bob) and Irene (Hollinger) McKnight.

Bob was a proud Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during WW II. In 2008 he took the Honor Flight to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. He was also a member of the Greenville V.F.W. and the Ansonia American Legion.

He and his wife were retired from 50 years of farming.

Bob is survived by his wife Myrtle (Lindemuth) McKnight of Greenville. They have celebrated 65 years of marriage. Also his children Gail (Nancy) McKnight of Rossburg; Pam (Mark) Hierholzer of Ansonia and Robert Kim McKnight of Rossburg. His grandchildren Jeremy McKnight and fiancé Lora; Ashley (Ryan) Rose; Molly (Mike) Jutte; Creighton Hierholzer; Adalynne Hierholzer and Kaela Hierholzer. Great grandchildren Solomon Hierholzer; Thaddeus Hierholzer; Sara Jutte and Ava Rose. A sister Virginia Ullery of Silver City, New Mexico and a brother Harold McKnight of Ansonia.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday January 4, 2013 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. The Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Services Friday at the funeral home.

Leon E. Meyers, 75 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday December 30, 2012 at 6:26 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born November 12, 1937 in Preble County, Ohio the son of the late Lowell E. & Thelma J. (Schultz) Meyers. He worked for Leaseway Motorcar Transport for 20 years; he also worked for Chrysler Air Temp., & Shraders. He was a member of the Greenville Baptist Temple.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Grandchildren: Amber Nicole, and an infant boy.

He is survived by his wife: Hazel L. (Karn) Meyers of Greenville; children & spouses: David & Debra Meyers of Union City, Indiana, Scott & Vera Meyers of Union City, Ohio, Joanne & Jim Williams of Greenville, Russell & Carla Meyers of Greenville; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; brothers & sisters in law: Steve & Sue Meyers of Union City, Ohio, Bruce & Linda Meyers of Verona, Ohio; sister & brother in law: Sharon & Bob Smith of Polk City, Florida.

Lela K. Ashley 91, of Greenville, formally of Ansonia, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Rest Haven of Greenville.

Cecelia D. Simon age 96, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 8:15 A.M. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Versailles Health Care Center. Cecelia was born September 12, 1916 in Darke County, Ohio to the late William Frank “W.F.” & Adeline (Barga) Subler.

Cecelia is survived by a son & daughter-in-law, Denis & Polly Simon of Versailles; daughters & sons-in-law, Martha & Dennis Ahrens of Sidney, Mary & John Moran of Versailles and Doris Subler & George Williams of Versailles; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cecelia is also preceded in death by her husband, Cletus L. Simon on July 8, 1988 whom she married November 6, 1945; brothers, Leonard, Herman, Alcede, Edmund, Glen, Robert and Jerome “Jerry” Subler; and sisters, Agnes Subler, Orpha Goubeaux, Marcella Dapore and Margaret Subler.

Cecelia formerly worked at Buckeye Overall Factory in Versailles and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Ann L. York age 70, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 9:54 P.M. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Ann was born November 5, 1942 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Lewis E. & Martha E. (Baltes) Wagaman.

Ann is survived by her husband, James R. York whom she married June 26, 1965; sons & daughters-in-law, Allen & Brenda York of Versailles, Bruce York of Versailles, Chris & Lynda York of Versailles and Dan York & Abby Luginbuhl of Troy; grandchildren, Aaron, Kori, Ryan, Kristin, Alexis, Natalie, Emma, Mallory and Danica all of Versailles; brother & sister-in-law, John & Betty Wagaman of Versailles; sister & brother-in-law, Merilyn & Ed Borchers of Russia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ann is also preceded in death by a brother, Michael L. Wagaman.

Ann was a retired beautician; she was the former owner and operator of Ann’s Beauty Salon in Versailles. She was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School. Ann was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and Indian Lake Moose Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 31, 2012 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Donald Hurd (December 26, 2012)

Donald Hurd, 79, of Richmond, Indiana, and most recently of Palestine, Ohio, went to be with his heavenly family on December 26, 2012, while in Hospice Care in Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services in Richmond. Don and twin brother Dean were born on May 6, 1933 to Theophilus and Gladys (Clemens) Hurd in Dayton Ohio. Shortly after their birth, the family moved to Darke County, Ohio, where nine children were raised. Don graduated from Palestine High School in 1952. He loved baseball and track, and was a baseball pitcher in high school. He later pitched for an independent baseball team. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After military service, he worked for GTE/Verizon Telephone Company, retiring in December 1991 with 26 years of service. He was the “THE MAN IN THE TELEPHONE TRUCK”.

He was an avid Nascar fan, and traveled to many races. Another big interest was Wheel Horse tractors. He always kept busy by working on his tractors and doing tractor pulls, and was willing to help his neighbors with their lawns. While his children were young, he served as a Little League Coach for many years and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother James. He is survived by four children: Keven (Karen) of Richmond, In. Kathy (Andy) Pollock of Fort Wayne, In. Kelley (Lance) Brown of Richmond, Indiana, and Jessica (Josh) Parker of Richmond, Indiana; three grandchildren, Corey Drake, Brittany Brown, and Jaelyn Parker and step-grandson Roger Sams. He also had 2 surviving great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Abby Sams.

Also surviving are twin brother Dean (Mary), and Brothers Richard, Frank and Ralph (Ann) of Greenville, David (Barbara) of Indianapolis, and sisters Elizabeth Olinger of Dayton, Edith (Joseph) Perkins of Richmond, and Gloria (Terry) Buckingham of Greenville. He is also survived by his special friend and companion Donna Joan Abner of Palestine, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday December 30, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Services will be held on Monday December 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Clemens Cemetery in Darke County. Military honors will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home.

Florieta “Ann” Rose Emma (Iddings) Tegtmeyer, 98 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday December 26, 2012 at 5:45 AM at her residence. She was born May 29, 1914 in Greenville, Ohio the daughter of the late William Grant & Martha Ann (Woodman) Iddings. She was a homemaker and loved to sew.

Anna Maxine Alexander (December 24, 2012)

Anna Maxine Alexander, 86, passed away the afternoon of December 24, 2012 at the Brethren Home with her daughter by her side. She was the daughter of the late Virgil and Nell (Stephens) Fowble. Born on January 4, 1926 she was raised on the farm west of Greenville along with her brother, the late Clarence Fowble. She graduated from Palestine High School in 1943.

On January 5, 1944, she married the late Chalmer J. Alexander who passed away on July 2, 1966. They were blessed with a son, Jack (Judy) Alexander of Greenville and a daughter, Linda (Bill) Brown of Rossburg. They had two daughters that died in infancy.

Her pride and joy was her family. Her love of animals especially her dogs got her the nickname "Grandma Puppy" by her grandchildren, Doug (Cindy) Alexander, Greenville, Lori (Brad) Pearson, Brookville, Travis (Lisa) Brown, Rossburg, and Jason (Sara) Alexander, Versailles.

Her great grandchildren, Randi Alexander, Raleigh, North Carolina, Jessica Alexander, Vandalia, Jonathan and Hannah Pearson, Brookville, Garrett and Emma Brown, Rossburg, Madison and Chloe Alexander, Versailles, and a step great granddaughter, Macie Daniel of Muncie, Indiana always brought a smile to her face.

On May 9, 1955 she starting working for Fram and after thirty four years retired on June 1, 1989.

Her life was devoted to taking care of her parents and always helping he family until she was diagnosis with Alzheimers four years ago. As her family watched her health decline, their love for her never ending. Recently, she underwent surgery and her family was informed that she also had cancer.

She was a member and attended Trinity Wesleyan Church in Greenville. Her faith and love for God was shown in everything that she did.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday. December 29, 2012 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Steve Short officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. The family requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her memory to the new Darke County Dog Park.

Mildred P. Wyne, 85, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on December 21, 2012 at 10:40 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. She was born on March 21, 1927 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Otto Earl & Bertha Alice (Cox) Vanata.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Jack & Mary Wyne of New Madison, and Gary & Judy Wyne of Rotonda West, Florida; daughter, Teresa Wyne of New Paris, Ohio; grandchildren, Christine Sando, Michelle Hunt, April Wulber and Jacob Wyne; 9 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford M. “Bud” Wyne in 2001; brothers, Arthur Vanata, Chalmer Vanata, and Ora Vanata; sister, Nellie Vanata and Mary Shank.

Mildred was a homemaker and a member of the Palestine Church of Christ.

There will be a service held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Mike Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery, Palestine, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 - 1:00 at the funeral home.

James A. “Jim” Unger (December 21, 2012)

James A. “Jim” Unger, 65, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10:50 AM at his residence. He was born on February 13, 1947 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Arthur J. & Helen (Gephart) Unger.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia L. “Pat” (Monnier) Unger of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on February 15, 1969; son and daughter in law, Jeffery & Kathrine Unger of Greenville; daughters and son in law, Penni Unger of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Holli & Greg George of Versailles, Ohio; grandchildren, Jonathan, Zachary, Seth, Kyrie, Mckenzi, Mallory, Toby, Elliot, Elise, Raeanne, Camille, Joshua, Kenneth and Justin; Dog, Elli; brother, Ned (Brenda Wallace) Unger of Greenville; sister in law, Susie (Harold) Roberts of Winchester, Indiana; as well as multiply nieces and nephews.

Jim worked at several factories in the area retiring as a grinder and welder. He was a member of the Covington Eagles and loved being with his grandchildren.

There will be a service held on Monday, December 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. Jim Simons officiating. Burial will follow in the Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00-11:00 AM the funeral home.

Melissa Davina (Ealy) West (December 15, 2012)

Melissa Davina (Ealy) West, 43, of Greenville, passed away on December 15, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Melissa was a Homemaker who enjoyed cooking, helping out her neighbors, playing cards and dice and collecting candles. She was a positive, good hearted woman who had numerous friends who will miss her.

In addition to her parents, Melissa is preceded in death by an infant son Tommy Ealy.

She is survived by her husband Matt West whom she married in March 2009, a son, and several brothers and sisters.

Friends may visit from 5-6 PM on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville. A Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following at 6 PM.

Betty J. Middlestetter (December 18, 2012)

Betty J. Middlestetter, age 90 of Arcanum, Ohio went to be with her Lord at 4:46 A.M. Tuesday December 18, 2012 at the Heartland Nursing Home Greenville, Ohio. Betty was born January 22, 1922 in Covington, Ohio and the daughter of the late James Carl & Ida (Bigham) Thompson.

Betty retired in 1984 from Fram Corporation and was a member of the Twin Creek Chapel Church in West Manchester. She played the organ and loved music, playing cross word puzzles and crocheting afghans. Betty truly loved her family, friends and Her Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son James Middlestetter in 1997; sisters Alice Landis, Glenna Shellenbarger, Frances Cole and Lorna Blankenship.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law Robert & Alice Sue Middlestetter of Arcanum, Ronald & Sally Middlestetter of Greenville and Connie Middlestetter of Florida. Her grandchildren Terry Middlestetter, Tony (Rachael) Middlestetter, Tim (Deidre) Middlestetter, Phil (Annie) Middlestetter, Brad (Kim) Middlestetter, Deana (Tim) Davis, Ken (Mary) Middlestetter and Amy (Chad) Platz. Also 19 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren with 1 more on the way and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald J. Couchot, 71, of Greenville, passed away late Monday evening, December 17, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

He was born August 2, 1941 in Piqua, son of the late Robert J. and Treva (Smitley) Couchot.

Donald is survived by his children, Donald J. Couchot, Jr, Cynthia M. Young, and Suzanne F. Cain; 8 grandchildren; a sister, Anita Morrison, and a brother, Douglas E. Couchot.

Mark J. Huffman (December 15, 2012)

Mark J. Huffman, 53, of Lima, Ohio, and formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at his residence. He was born on September 26, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio, to Darlene (Lucas) Huffman of Greenville, Ohio, and the late Richard E. Huffman.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Richard & Bobbi Huffman Jr. of West Alexandria, Ohio, Brian & Jeanne Huffman of Champaign County, Ohio, Scott & Colleen Huffman of Sarasota, Florida, and Steve Huffman of Wapakoneta, Ohio; sisters and brother in law, Melanie Huffman of North Baltimore, Ohio, and Valerie & Ronald Begoon of New Paris, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as several friends and co-workers that Mark worked with over the years.

Mark was a Pipe Fitter for Local 776 in Lima, Ohio. He attended Hobart School of Wielding and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his beloved dog Deagan. He also was an avid Bengals and Reds fan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1400 East Main Street, Greenville, Ohio. There will be no burial. A gathering will be held on Saturday from 12-2 PM at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Theodore Bates (December 16, 2012)

Theodore Bates, age 71 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:00 P.M. Sunday December 16, 2012 at his residence. He was born July 26, 1941 in Piqua, Ohio and the son of the late Earl & Lois (Ilo) Bates.

He was retired as a truck driver for R D Holder Company- BP Distributor Springfield, Ohio and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He also enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Frank, Bill and Bob Bates; Sisters Betty Sargent and Patricia Clark.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Ann (Holman) “Werling” Bates of Greenville. They were married June 16, 1972. Also survived sons and daughters in law Jeff & Lynn Werling of Conover, Ohio, Steve & Kim Werling and Jim Bates all of Arcanum. Daughters and son in law Tina Hunt of Greenville and Terri & Rick Wade of Brandt, Ohio. Grandchildren Amanda Werling, Trevor Bates, Jordan Bates, Alison Bates, Sheldon Bates, Jason Hunt, Ryan Hunt, Danielle Reed, Ricky Werling, Michael Werling, Chase Werling and Cody Werling. Sister June Jay of Paulding, Ohio, brother Gerald Bates of Piqua, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Robert T. “Dick” Cain (December 17, 2012)

Robert T. “Dick” Cain, 92, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 1:30 AM at his residence. He was born on July 25, 1920 in Laura, Ohio, to the late Ben & Credith (Buckingham) Cain.

Dick is survived by his wife, Fidebell (Kissinger) Cain of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on August 19, 1939; sons and daughters in law, Roy & Marilyn Cain of Greenville and Gary & Beth Cain of Greenville; grandchildren, Rick, Doug, Matthew and Leah Cain; 7 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Joe Cain, Evelyn Bashore, Lester Cain, Ruby Smith, Rose Robinson, Maxine, Jean Wombold, and Irene Dicky.

Robert was a farmer and also worked as a Brick Mason. Dick also helped clean the Arcanum School. He enjoyed gardening and being with his grandkids.

There will be a private service held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens in Greenville, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice.

Mary Elizabeth Fitzwater (December 15, 2012)

Mary Elizabeth Fitzwater, age 92 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:00 A.M. Saturday December 15, 2012 at Wayne Healthcare Greenville, Ohio. Mary was born October 18, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Samuel & Dela (Marker) Byers.

She was a homemaker and worked with her husband Stanley at Fitzwater’s Tree Service.

Mary was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed all types of racing, fishing and going to the Hobby Club in Matlacha, Florida

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Fitzwater August 2, 1989. They were married January 2, 1940. Also by her sister Kathryn Byers and brothers Henry Byers Sr., Rufus Byers, John Byers, Hollie Byers, Charles Byers and William Byers.

Mary is survived by her children Larry (Jenny) Fitzwater of Greenville, Deborah Bell of Salt Lake City, Utah and Steve (Lisa) Fitzwater of Greenville. Grandchildren Cody P. Fitzwater and Cami Lynn (Chris) Ciotta. Great grandchildren Linzi, Logan, Mitchell, Jessie and Jacob. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday December 19, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Jeff Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of the services in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Memorial Contributions be given to Hospice of Darke County.

Glenna Mae Figel age 91, of Pitsburg, Ohio passed away at 2:46 P.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Glenna was born October 31, 1921 in Darke County to the late Elvy & Mamie (Sheets) Meeds.

Glenna is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Jan Figel of Arcanum; daughters & son-in-law, Beverly & Norman Whiteman of Dallas, Texas and Judy Razor of Pitsburg; grandchildren, Kim A. Razor, Troy & Ginger Whiteman, Shawn Figel & Christie Randall, Adam & Leigh Anne Whiteman, Ty & Brandi Figel and Andrea & Finny Benny; great-grandchildren, Caleb Whiteman, Joshua Whiteman, Kaitlin Card, Colby Whiteman, Zachary Whiteman, Erika Razor, Carson Figel, Ava Figel and Sean Moore; and brothers & sisters-in-law, Paul Meeds of Celina, Russell Meeds of Centerville, Herbert & Nancy Meeds of Celina and Robert & Ina Meeds of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Glenna is also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar C. Figel whom she married February 22, 1946; brother, Odus Meeds; and sisters-in-law, Mary Meeds, Norma Meeds and Lila Meeds.

Glenna was a homemaker. She was a member of Ithaca United Methodist Church in Ithaca.

Richard L. McCollum, 61, of Union City, OH, passed away Friday afternoon, December 14, 2012 at his residence.

He was born July 20, 1951 in Winchester, IN, son of the late Richard and Sudia (Goforth) McCollum.

He is survived by his significant other, Donna Arnett; children, Chris Burton of Union City, IN, Kelly (Jimmy) Tidwell of Richmond, Karri McCollum of Lynn, Kimberly Pitman of Lynn, Ryan McCollum of Portland, and Ben Hendrix of Winchester; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Mike McCollum; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 17, at the Moose Lodge in Wichester.

Doyle D. Delk (December 13, 2012)

Doyle D. Delk, 74 of Darke County, Ohio lost his courageous battle with cancer on December 13, 2012.

He was born June 24, 1938 in Darke County, son of the late Forrest and Ruby (Krieder) Delk. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carrol E. Delk and James R. Delk.

Although Doyle was a life long farmer, he had also been employed at Hobart Brothers of Troy, Ohio, Bill Kelly Excavating, Heritage Gardens, Stonehedge Tea Room and currently at the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Doyle is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth J. (Holmes) Delk, whom he married on January 25, 1969; sons, Doyle D. Delk, Jr. and David Delk; daughters, Tammy Beltran, Brenda Stockhill, Darla Staricha and Hope Lewis; along with 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Lenvall R. Delk, Robert E. Delk, Kenneth R. Delk; sisters, Vera I. Beisner, Janice L. Shields, Marilyn L. Myers and Doris J. Osborne; also numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Shirley Lambert.

Services will held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Jan Roestamadji officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Margaret E. Constable (December 12, 2012)

Margaret E. Constable, 76, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2012 in the emergency room at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville.

She was born December 7, 1936 in Harrison Township, Preble County, Ohio, daughter of the late Russell H. and Annetta (McKay) Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Constable, Sr on August 8, 1987; and a brother, Herbert Miller in infancy.

Margaret was retired from Wayne Healthcare having worked in the linen department. She continued as a volunteer for the hospital after her retirement for many years. She had also worked at Hamilton, Harris and Fowler wholesale of Richmond, IN and Wendy's in Greenville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville and DAR Fort Greenville and Preble County. She had been recognized by the Darke County Blood Bank for having donated over 10 gallons of blood over the years. She was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Football, and Nascar Racing and loved to collect covered bridges, especially ones of Preble county.

She is survived by her sons, Charles R. (Robin) Constable, Jr. of Arcanum, James A. (Carol) Constable of Eaton, Lee R. (Anita) Constable of West Manchester, and Scott (Vicky) Constable of Greenville; grandchildren, Nicholas Constable, Dillon R. Constable, Casey Jo Constable, Jeffrey Constable, Nick Woodruff, and Austin Constable; a great grandson, Dylan Constable; a brother, Joseph M. (Mary Kay) Miller of Laura; special niece, Anne Marie (Dave) Kress of West Milton; great nephews, Webb and Tyler; a sister-in-law, Evelyn (Charles) Boyd of Arizona; and 2 nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephews.


Services will be held at 2:30, Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Joe Payne officiating. The DAR will have their memorial service beginning at 2:30. Burial will follow in the Old Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia, Ohio.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. It was her requests for those wanting to donate blood in her memory or the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or the donor's charity choice.

John Fuller Vermilya (December 10, 2012)

John Fuller Vermilya age 93, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:39 P.M. on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. John was born in Wood County, Ohio, outside Bowling Green, July 19, 1919 and grew up on the family farm.

John is survived by his daughter, Joanne Vermilya MacArthur; son, John Michael Vermilya; grandchildren, Dawn Buchanan, Hillary (John) Senediak, Jocelyn (Robb) Carter and J. Eric (Sarah) Vermilya; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth; and was beloved by all.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Miriam, and by two brothers and one sister.

As a young adult, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was trained first as a pilot, then a flight instructor. When he was released from service, he attended college at Bowling Green University, Bluffton College, and The Ohio State University, eventually earning his Masters in Agriculture Economics.

John was an Associate Professor for the Extension Service of The Ohio State University, Montgomery Co. 4-H Agent for twenty-two years and Darke County Agricultural Agent for ten years. He was also affiliated with many local organizations, including: the Clayton Just-a-Mere Grange, Farm Bureau Federation, Englewood Conservancy, MVCTC Planning Board, Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Clayton United Methodist Church, Darke County Red Cross Board (10 years), Darke County Emergency Management Commission (10 years), Greenville Kiwanis, Wayne Lakes Incorporation Board and Council (10 years), and two county planning commissions (32 years). He donated blood willingly and often for a total of approximately six gallons. His wit and wisdom will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Brethren Retirement Community or to the Clayton United Methodist Church. Agnes C. Niswonger, 90 of Troy, Ohio and formerly of Palestine, Ohio passed away on Monday December 10, 2012 at 12:21 AM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born February 27, 1922 in Union City, Indiana, the daughter of the late Chester Clifford & Bessie Mae (Metzcar) Carpenter. She was a homemaker and as a young girl her and her sisters sang in the Carpenter Trio. She was in the Sweet Adelines in Greenville and was director for a while. She taught sewing. She served in the United States Army as a WAC where she played trombone in the Army Band. She was a member of Palestine Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Robert Lowell Niswonger; brothers & sisters: Orest Dwight Carpenter, Noel Thurman Carpenter, Florence Mabel Warner, Abby Lenore Carpenter, Richard Leon Carpenter, her Twin sister Eunice Price, Margaret Alice Heaston, Marvin Carpenter, John Carpenter, Alberta Hoover.

She is survived by her children & spouses: Robert L. & Mary Niswonger Jr. of Troy, Carol M. Niswonger of Greenville, Gary K. & Ok Chu Niswonger of California; grandchildren & spouses: Jeannette Niswonger, Ted & Valerie Niswonger, Shelley & John Arnett; great granddaughter: Mena Niswonger.

Greta Ann (Begoon) Bowers, 60, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 with her family at her side. Greta was born on May 23, 1952 to the late William R. and Bertha M. (Clem) Begoon.

Greta was a home maker and did childcare during her life. She enjoyed horses and horseback riding, camping, fishing and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Greta is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F. Bowers and a son, R. Lee Jones.

Greta is survived by two daughters, Michele L. Jones and Lorrie A. Jackie W. Barnes Sr. (December 9, 2012)

Jackie W. Barnes Sr., age 70 of Covington, Ohio passed away at 9:45 A.M. Sunday December 9, 2012 at the Heartland Nursing Home Piqua, Ohio. Jackie was born November 20, 1942 in Evarts, Kentucky and the son of the late Bill & Neva (Haney) Barnes.

He retired in 2005 from Hobart Brothers of Troy, Ohio and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. Jackie was a member of the Hickory Grove United Baptist Church of Greenville, the Eagles Lodge of Covington and the Bradford Community Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly Michelle Morgan and two brothers Ronnie James and Bobby Ray Barnes.

Jackie is survived by his wife Rose G. (Jones) Barnes of Covington. They were married June 12, 1965. Also by his sons and daughters in law Jackie W. & Michelle Barnes Jr. of Piqua; Christopher M. & Shannon Barnes of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Andrew J. Cindy Barnes of Piqua. There are 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, sisters & brother in law Linda & Earl Curry and Brenda Barnes all of Greenville, brother & sister in law Doug & Bev Barnes of Greenville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorotha Beatrix Hunt (November 25, 2012)

Dorotha Beatrix Hunt, 91, of Greenville, passed away early Sunday morning, November 25, 2012 at her residence.

She was born June 25, 1921 in Boulder, Colorado, daughter of the late Harold Kilkenny and Huldah Viola (Wiebusch) Hunt.

Dorotha spent here life teaching piano and organ to many aspiring individuals. She also played organ and piano for numerous churches in area. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville.

She is survived by numerous friends and her care giver for the last several years, Annie Sonner.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 15 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 131 E. Fourth St., Greenville, with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles.

Robert L. "Bob" Thomas (December 10, 2012)

Robert L. "Bob" Thomas, 85, of Greenville, passed away early Monday morning, December 10, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born October 17, 1927 in Greenville, son of the late Granville and Roena (Hufford) Thomas.

Bob was an avid Nascar fan. In his earlier years Bob owned a stock car and frequented the area including many races at Eldora. He farmed all his life and had worked at the former Excello in Greenville. After retiring from there he became a contractor building several homes around the county. He and his wife Donna loved bluegrass music and tractor shows. He was also a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna Jeanne (Poling) Thomas; his daughter, Chris (Dean) Eby of Greenville; son, Doug (Sandy) Thomas of Salem; grandchildren, Tricia (Brandon) Fellers of Troy, Robyn (Dave Mikesell) Flanery of New Madison, Sherry (Tom) Schlater of Wyoming, and Justin (Amy) Thomas of North Star; great grandchildren, Michael and Macy Fellers, Ethan and Eli Flanery, Nic, Tommy, and Parker Schlater, and Hawk Thomas; and step grandchildren, Makala, Tawni, and Taylor Brewer.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 13, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Delk of Castine, Ohio, Robert E. Delk of Pitsburg, Ohio, Doyle D. Delk of Greenville, and Kenneth R. Delk of Rossburg, Ohio; sisters, Vera I. Beisner of Greenville, Janice L. Jim loved camping, playing cards, and most of all loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren and watching them play their sporting events.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

Jane Fisher, 89, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, December 4, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville, Ohio

She was born August 6, 1923 in Hollywood CA, daughter of the late Carl and Ruby (Armstrong) Ross. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert L."Bob" Fisher on September 12, 2012; and a brother Donald Ross.

Jane was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where she was a Sunday School Nursery teacher and also a member of the Women's Association of the church and was active with FISH of Darke County.

She is survived by her children, Robert E. (Marlene) Fisher, of Coldwater; Cindy (James L.) Lutz, of Lancaster; Jason (Christy) Fisher, and Richard Fisher, of Greenville; grandchildren, Nickolas (Amy) Fisher, Julie (Ted) Ruchty, Stacy (Bob) Larkin, Jody (Jeff) Dupler, and Eli Fisher; great grandchildren, Betsy, LeAnn, Ted, Kevin, Michael, David, Chris, Lydia, Katie, Natalie, Shelby, Emily, Josie and Jared; a brother-in-law Ted Williams of Greenville; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 11 at the 1st Presbyterian Church, 114 E. 4th Street Greenville, with Pastor Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Harry "Eddie" Widener (December 4, 2012)

Harry "Eddie" Widener, 71 of Greenville and formerly of Rossburg, passed away Tuesday morning, December 4, 2012 at Village Green Healthcare Center in Greenville.

He was born December 27, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late John William and Evelyn (Mitchel) Widener. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue A. Frye.

Eddie was a car reconditioner having worked for several years at Smith Chevrolet in Rossburg. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Harry is survived by his brothers; Albert Widener (Grace), Raymond "Butch" Widener, Ron Widener (Kathy), John Widener (Julie), Dann "Slug" Widener (Pam); sisters, Sharon Bowman and Roselynne Widener; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 8, at the Oliver- Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Ms. Debra Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Florence Lucille Elliott (December 2, 2012)

Florence Lucille Elliott, 95 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Sunday December 2, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She was born June 4, 1917 in Greenville, Ohio the daughter of the late Ralph & Minnie (Berner) Fourman. She worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Hobarts, Inland, & Corning Glass.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Harry Elliott; and her siblings.

She is survived by her children & spouses: Betty Mikesell of New Madison, Leon Burk of Tipp City, Darryl & LaJeanne Burk of Greenville, & Barbara & Russ Potter of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday December 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Sylvia McKibben officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.

Basil L. Barga (December 2, 2012)

Basil L. Barga age 92 of Versailles, Ohio passes away at 1:10 P.M. on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Versailles Health Care Center. Basil was born October 25, 1920 in Darke County to the late Louis N. & Eleanora C. (Goubeaux) Barga.

Basil is survived by his brothers, Vitalus Barga of Greenville and Mark John Barga of Bradford; sisters, Rita Borland of Sidney and Iva Wion of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Basil is also preceded in death by his brothers, Norbert, Martin, Paul, Noah, Leo and Bernard “Jake” Barga; and sisters, Cecilia Gasson, Agnes Kissinger, Lucy Petitjean, Beatrice Barga and Clara Subler.

Basil served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Hobart Brothers in Troy with 46 years of service.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Emma Catherine Bussey (December 2, 2012)

Emma Catherine Bussey, age 92 of New Madison, Ohio passed away at 9:13 P.M. Sunday December 2, 2012 at her residence. Emma was born September 11, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Charles & Esther (Wenrick) Garber.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church—Palestine District. Emma loved her family, bird watching, knitting, and quilting and was an excellent cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Keith Eldon Bussey Sr. January 2, 2002; granddaughter Julia Elaine Bussey 1977; grandson Bradley King 1977; great grandson Damon Bower 1988; great granddaughter Hazel Joy Van Lieu 2009; 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Emma is survived by her sons and daughters in law Keith E. & Lucille Bussey Jr., and Denny & Cathy Bussey all of Greenville; daughters and sons in law Karen & Calvin Barnhart of Pratt, Kansas, Becky & Philip King of Greenville, Kathy & George Clifton of New Madison and Vickie & Philip Miller of Bradford. There are 25 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday December 8, 2012 at the Old German Baptist Brethren Church—Palestine District with the Home Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio.

Dan G. Hunt (November 7, 2012)

Dan G. Hunt, age 71, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 12:20 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on October 1, 1941 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late George W. & Beatrice (Blakeley) Hunt.

Dan is survived by his wife Hattie (Vanata) Hunt of Greenville whom he married on August 31, 1963; son, Chris Hunt and Fiancée Dawn Beavers of Greenville; daughter and son in law, Michele & Terry Cook of Bradford, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 6:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Terry Haworth officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Audrey W. Harder (November 30, 2012)

Audrey W. Harder, 90, of Greenville, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Sterling House of Greenville with her beloved family by her side. She was born in Redford, MI on February 15, 1922 to William M. Wilbur and Amelia (Mangold) Wilbur.

She graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI, and then attended the Detroit Business Institute. She married Elmer “Al” Harder on October 18, 1941 in Detroit, MI, and they moved to Adrian, MI, in 1950 where they made their home for many years.

Audrey worked as a secretary at Kerr Dental in Detroit and at Adrian College. Her hobbies were sewing, square dancing, gardening and traveling. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada with the Wally Byam Airstream Club and together they also went to Europe, South Africa, Israel, New Zealand and the Fiji Islands.

Audrey attended the First Assembly of God in Greenville, Ohio. She lived her Christian faith passionately and throughout her life she was always involved with bible study groups, teaching Sunday school at all levels and giving and sharing generously with others. She remains with us as a wonderful example of the human spirit, blessed with the Holy Spirit and she leaves a legacy of family members and friends who experienced her unconditional love.

Audrey is survived by her children; Karen (Mel) Kerentoff of Sand Creek, MI; Judy (Gene) Montgomery of Edwardsburg, MI; David (Diane) Harder of Adrian, MI; Walter (Karen) Harder of Greenville, OH; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her three siblings and her husband in 2005.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Dale Boeger officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home. It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice, Salvation Army or Greenville First Assembly of God.
