Gertrude D. Dispennette (October 26, 2010)

Mrs. Gertrude D. Dispennette age 92 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at her residence. Gertrude was born March 6, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Ora and Anna (Brumbaugh) Voke.

Gertrude was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Greenville.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude is also preceded in death by her husband, Lester M. Dispennette; 8 brothers and sisters; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Gertrude is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Robert Class of Greenville; grandchildren, Dan and Jeri Class of Greenville and Matt and Mindy Steyer of Greenville; and great grandchildren, Hunter P. Class, Gibson Steyer and Greyson Steyer.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Greenville Cemetery New Section with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.


Kenneth "Kenny" Olwine (October 26, 2010)

Kenneth "Kenny" Olwine, 85, of Greenville, died Tuesday morning, October 26, 2010 at Versailles Health Care Center. Mr. Olwine was born in Van Buren Township, Darke County on April 23, 1925, the son of the late Walter and Esta (Burke) Olwine. Kenny was a member of the Greenville EUM Church. He served 30 months in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class in WW II. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was the youngest of the 5 Darke County Brothers, all having served in WWII. He was employed for 28 1/2 years at NCR, Dayton retiring in 1975. Then worked for Alma Plastics and 18 years at Eikenberrys Super Value. He is preceded in death by 3 Brothers Carl, Robert G., and Harold Olwine. Kenny is survived by his wife of 63 years Freda (Brewer) Olwine whom he married August 3, 1947; Daughters Susan Dunn and husband Kenneth of Lexington, Kentucky and Gayle Cheadle of Greenville; Grandchildren Nathan Schilling and wife Nikki of Lexington, Jordan Dunn, of Lexington, and Chris Dunn of Somerset, Kentucky; 2 great grandchildren Liam and Leighton "K.P.", Schilling; Brother Berman Olwine and wife Bessie of Englewood; Nieces and Nephews. Graveside Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Greenville Cemetery with Rev John E. McRoberts officiating. The Greenville Area Veterans will conduct Military Services. The Family suggests memorial contributions to Versailles Health Care Center.

Elton B. Miller (October 24, 2010)

Elton B. Miller, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Eaton, Ohio passed away at 4:09 P.M. Sunday October 24, 2010 at his residence. Elton was born December 4, 1925 in Gettysburg, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Ruth (Brewer) Miller who lived in Gettysburg and his 2 day old son Gary Ray Miller also of Gettysburg.

Elton graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1943. He went on to receive both his B.S. in Education and Master’s Degree from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio. While he was at Miami he was honored to be inducted into 3 Honorary Fraternities. His career of 29 years in Public Education included 7 years of classroom teaching and 22 years of administrative assignments. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in medical administration division of the U.S. Army. His tours of duty took him to India, Burma and the Chinese Theatre. He was also a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

Elton leaves his wife Thelma Jean (Detrick) Miller of Greenville. They were married for 64 years August 15, 2010. He is also survived by his son and daughter in law Wayne and Vana Miller of Blytheville, Ark., and his daughter Kathy Jones of Crossville, Tenn. One grandson Kevin of Mississippi, as well as 2 brothers and sisters in law Gerald and Alta Miller of San Antonio, Texas and Harold and Helen Miller of Alachua, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday October 29, 2010 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish and Pastor Ralph Detrick co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Creek Cemetery Bradford, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 until 8 P.M. and on Friday 1/2 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Mary B. Neff (October 21, 2010)

Mary Bess Neff age 92 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 12:30 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on May 16, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Orville & Rena (Eislie) Beane.

Mary was a 2nd grade teacher at South School for 25 years. She was a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren, 60 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Gettysburg Chapter, Darke County Retired Teachers Association and Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She was a Graduated of Miami University and enjoyed writing.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Neff; brothers, Harlan, John, Wilbur, Herbert and Myron Beane; sisters, Lucy Fourman and Kathryn Loxley.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jack & Janice Neff of Greenville; daughters, Marena Drew of Greenville and Veda Reiplinger of Greenville; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Sara (Beane) Ellison of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. There will be a gathering one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or Painter Creek Church of the Brethren.


Gladys N. Lathrop (October 24, 2010)

Gladys Nina Lathrop, age 86, of the Brethren’s Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio (formerly of Oceanside, California) passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of October 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Purl (PJ) Lathrop, Jr. in 1990 after 45 years of marriage; her parents, Franklin Jacob Case and Zora (Setty) Case; one brother, Gene Case, Sr.; and three sisters; Glee Shumway, Faye Krause, and Vivian Reed. She is survived by a large extended family of nieces and nephews and their families, including one great-niece Vickie (Kevin) Rhodehamel, of Arcanum, who lovingly served as her caregiver. She was a member of Unity Way Church in Vista, California. Gladys loved to spend her days enjoying nature and animals, reading a good book, listening to jazz music, or painting a canvas or two in the past few years. Gladys loved to travel to Hawaii and did so many times over the years. Having no children of her own, she became a special aunt to many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Oregon, California, and Hawaii that everyone loved to visit. Vickie and her family would like to say a Special Thanks to the staff of Rosewood 5 at BRC, and the State of the Heart Hospice Team for the superb care these past several months.

Arrangements are being handled by Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum. Per her wishes there will be no funeral service; instead the family will hold a graveside service at a later date at Fort Rosecrans Veteran’s Cemetery, in San Diego, California where she will be laid to rest next to the love of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to the funeral home,204 N. Main St., Arcanum, Ohio 45304, to cover her final expenses. Betty E. Brumbaugh (October 22, 2010)

Betty E. Brumbaugh, 89, of Ansonia, passed away Friday evening, October 22, 2010 at the Gade Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born January 6, 1921 in Darke County, daughter of the late Grover A. and Wilma L. (Ross) Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edward Brumbaugh on October 30, 1973; two brothers, Jessie and Ross Miller; and a close friend, Dan Amspaugh.

A homemaker, Betty had worked as a waitress at the Ansonia Inn and Bear's Coffee Shop before reitring from the Royal Garment Company in Ansonia. She was a member of the Ansonia Christian Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Zane Keller of Ansonia; a grandson, Zane (Lori) Keller, Jr.; two great grandsons, Zachary and Seth Keller; a sister, Ireta Beard of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 28 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Beamsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Gade's Activities Department or the Ansonia Christian Church.

Anita Neal (October 16, 2010)

Anita Joyce Neal, age 53 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday October 16, 2010 at 8:50 AM at her residence. She was born September 12, 1957 in Piqua, Ohio the daughter of Elba (Cornelius) Dodd of Bradford and the late Charles Dodd. She worked at GTI.

Along with her mother she is survived by her husband: Randy Neal of Greenville whom she married June 17, 1993; Children: Steve Brock of Union City, Christopher Brock of Greenville, Elizabeth Clark of Greenville, Alexander Neal of Greenville, Tristan Neal of Greenville; Grandchildren: Ryan Brock, Kyle Brock, Katie Brock, Alex Shimp; Brothers: Charles Dodd of Troy, Sam Dodd of New Weston, James Dodd of Greenville; Sister: Dorothy Alvey of Kentucky.

A memorial meal will be held on Saturday November 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Oakland Church of the Brethren 8058 Horatio Harris Creek Road. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday October 20, 2010 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Daman Hoblit (October 16, 2010)

Daman Lee Nathaniel Hoblit age 23 of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his residence. Daman was born December 10, 1986 in Greenville, Ohio, to Pamela (Hatfield) and Jon Bradfield of Arcanum and Kevin and Jody Hoblit of Union City, Ohio.

Daman worked at Ghyslain Chocolatier in Union City, Indiana. Daman enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being outdoors. Daman also loved watching the Cincinnati Reds Baseball Team, Oakland Raiders Football Team and Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team.

In addition to his parents, Daman is also survived by his brothers, Nathan Hoblit of Union City, Ohio and Jacob Bradfield of Arcanum; sister, Anne Bradfield of Arcanum; maternal grandparents, Ron and Elois Hatfield of Greenville; paternal grandparents, Renee Hoblit of Union City, Ohio and Don Hoblit Jr. of Florida; step grandparents, James and Paula Bradfield of Kettering; maternal great grandparents, Howard and Ruth Hatfield of Greenville; special friend, Kimberly Cates of Arcanum; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Dan Kuhbander officiating. Burial will follow in Abbottsville Cemetery in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.


Grover E. Higgins (October 14, 2010)

Grover E. Higgins, age 76 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 8:14 A.M. Thursday October 14, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Grover was born January 17, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Mrs. Margaret Marie (Welch) Hudson of Greenville and the late Phil Higgins and his step father Willie R. Hudson.

Grover retired September 22, 2009 from ABF Freight Systems, where he was employed for 21 years as an over the road truck driver. Prior to that he had driven for several other companies as well as owning his own truck.

He was a member of the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Greenville Moose Lodge, Covington Eagles Lodge and the Greenville Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary.

In addition to his parents and step father, he was preceded in death by his son William Grover Higgins and son in law Dustin D. Stachler.

Grover is survived by his wife Sally Y. (Kent) “Musser” Higgins of Arcanum. They were married April 13, 1974. Also by his sons Allan E. Higgins of Dayton and Michael A. Higgins of New Madison. Daughters and sons in law Mary Ellen and Danny Stevens of New Paris and Karrie (Karlie) and Joe Geesy of Dunkirk, Indiana. Grandchildren Ami Stevens, Leigha Stachler and Alex Geesy. Step grandchildren Ashton Mangas, Sarah Geesy, Katelynn Geesy and Josie Geesy. Brothers in law and spouses Dale and Sharon Kent of Angola, Indiana and Clark and Cathy Kent of Columbus, Ohio. Sister in law Deanna Whitehead of Ann Arbor, Michigan. An Aunt Lillie Pool of Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, his step mother Myrtle Parriman of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his mother in law and father in law Donna and Orville Kent of Greenville, Michigan. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday October 18, 2010 at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Rev. Elwood Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until time of the services in the funeral home. The Gettysburg Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service on Monday morning at 10:45 A.M.

It is the wishes of the family that memorial contributions be given to Toys for Tots and Young Teens of Darke County.

Cheryl L. Bingham (October 13, 2010)

Mrs. Cheryl L. (Bowen) Bingham, age 63 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday October 13, 2010 at 8:23 AM at Heartland of Greenville. She was born January 1, 1947 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the daughter of James and Lucy (Geraghty) Bowen of Massachusetts. She worked at Fram, Shellar Globe, and Wal-Mart.

She is preceded in death by her Husband: Boyd Bingham Jr.

She is survived by her Sons and daughters in laws: Darrel and Julie Bingham of Greenville, James and Lewcrese shields of Greenville; Daughter and son in law: Nickole and Mike Barnes of Versailles; Grandchildren: Cla, Jesse, Aubrianna, Logan, Dakota, Dalton, Courtney, Billy; Brothers and sisters in law: Darryl and Joanne Bowen of California, John and Charlene Bowen of Indianapolis; Brothers in law and spouses: Forrest and Mona Bingham of Arcanum, Raymond and Wendy Bingham of Murfreesboro, TN, John and Shirley Bingham of Muncie, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday October 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home. A gathering will immediately follow the committal service at the Greenville Moose Lodge.


Roger L. Weaver (October 13, 2010)

Roger L. Wagner age 59 of Ansonia, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 1:20 PM at James Cancer Research Center in Columbus, Ohio. Roger was born on December 6, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late John H. and Wilma Frances (Mendenhall) Wagner.

Roger Retired in 2005 from the Village of Versailles after 31 years of service. He was a former member of the Eagles in Versailles and Ansonia VFW. Roger loved bowling and going to casinos.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Pearl Myers and infant twin sister.

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Wagner of Ansonia, Ohio; brother, Rick Wagner of Ansonia, Ohio; nephews, Brian (Trish) Wagner and their children Dustin and Colleen, and Bradley (Amanda Aikens) Whetsel and their daughter Gracie; also survived by one aunt and numerous cousins.

There will be service held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio with Pastor Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Shook Cemetery in Rossburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 4-6 PM and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary E. Smith (October 12, 2010)

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Smith, age 87 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Bradford, Ohio passed away on Tuesday October 12, 2010 at 10:35 PM at Sterling House, Greenville, Ohio. She was born February 9, 1923 in Miami County, Ohio the daughter of the late Raymond & Anna (Bartling) Wills. She was a homemaker.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Clyde Emerson Smith on January 26, 2004 whom she married April 20, 1943; Brothers: Delbert, Bill and John; Sisters: Margie and Joan.

She is survived by her Children and spouses: Larry and Linda Smith of Greenville and Linda and Tom Besecker of Greenville; Grandchildren and spouses: Tom and Traci Besecker, Jerry and Trina Besecker, Chris and Nancy Besecker, Mary and Jeremy Ashworth, Clyde and Meredith Smith, Tina and Walter Wright, Larry and Jessie Smith Jr.; 13 Great Grandchildren; 4 Step Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Louis Wills of Covington, Roger Wills of Union, Ohio; Sisters: Anna Mae Miller of Delphos, Ohio, Barbara Zarro of Lima, Ohio, Eileen Stonerock of Bradford; Sister in Law: Ella Nisonger of Fairborn.

Byron W. Brown (October 11, 2010)

Byron Winfield Brown, age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Monday October 11, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.

He was born March 2, 1917 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Vernie Oscar & Lottie (Develbiss) Brown who passed away in 1959 and 1990. He was married December 7, 1944 to Eleanor Jean Comolli of Piqua, who also passed away in 1990.

In Greenville he was employed by J.C. Penney Co., General Athletics Products Co., and Merit Shoes. He worked for Bonded Oil in Springfield and Toledo, and in Dayton he managed its station: later he managed Hygold Oil Station in Greenville. Mr. Brown was a welder at International Seat in Union City, at Crosley Radio in Richmond, Indiana, and at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA. In 1936-7 he served a six month enrollment in Company 584 of the Civilian Conservation Corps at Carrollton, Ohio and was discharged as Leader.

A 1934 graduate of Greenville High School, he earned at night classes on three continents an Associate of Arts degree at San Antonio College TX in 1956 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Military Science at the University of Maryland in 1960.

In 1940, Mr. Brown entered the Army National Guard at Covington, Ohio as private in Ohio’s 37th Buckeye Division, and for the next 23 years served in several states and in the South Pacific, Europe, Japan, and Korea, received 12 promotions, and retired at DeWitt Army Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA, as Lieutenant Colonel (Hospital Administrator) after being commissioned in the Regular Army in 1947.

He remained in the medical service field, and in 1976 he fully retired concurrently from Commonwealth of Virginia and its City of Alexandria as supervisory environmentalist.

In 1991 he moved from Virginia to The Brethren’s Home in Greenville, where he continued his genealogy, performed officer and committee duties in local groups to which he belonged, and was a volunteer for CORSP and the Brethren’s Home.




Mr. Brown was a member of the Greenville Rotary Club, Darke County Historical Society, Darke County Republican Men’s Club, Friends of the Park, Friends of the Greenville Library, General Society of the War of 1812, 37th Division Veterans Association, and sons of the American Revolution, National Association of CCC Alumni, and American Legion. After donating funds and library materials to the Greenville Public Library, the genealogy room was named after him.

He was a charter member of the International Numismatic Society and the Notaries Public Association, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Etowah Cherokee Nation. In the Darke County and Miami County Genealogical Societies, he was a Pioneer member. In 1994 Mr. Brown became the second person from Darke County to be inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizen Hall of Fame, and in 1996 he was presented with Sertoma’s Service to Mankind awards at both the local and district levels.

He was a member of the Retired Officers association, the Warrant Officers Association of the United States, and the Ohio and National Genealogical Societies. A Registered Sanitarian at State and National level, he held offices and committee assignments in various health groups and became a Diplomat of the American Academy of Sanitarians, a Fellow of the American Public Health Association, and a member of London’s Royal Society of Health.

Mr. Brown authored many health, scouting, historical and genealogical articles for local, national, and international professional and service publications, and compiled a 4,500-page family history on Darke County’s Ahijah Brown, his descendants, kith and kin, and their ancestors.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law and three sons, Marylyn and Byron Craig Brown of Norcross, GA, Bruce Allen Brown of Manhattan Beach, CA, Gary Lee Brown of Lacey, WA, seven grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and Goddaughter Jamie McClung and her mother Angela McClung. His only sibling, Pauline McCleece predeceased him in 2003 also at the age of 93.

Having been baptized in the Evangelical United Methodist Church (formerly the United Brethren) he later affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. A memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 16, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Steve Short officiating. The family will receive friends a ½ hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home. Veterans Services will be conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment of cremains will be held in Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Brethren Retirement Community, the Greenville Rotary Club, or the Greenville Public Library. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.


Rosalie Hupman (October 13, 2010)

Rosalie (Bower) Hupman, 87, of Greenville went to be with the Lord while at the Brethren Retirement Community on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. She was born in Hutsonville, Illinois on November 20, 1922, daughter of the late Perry and Ina Bower.

Rosalie was a secretary during WWII for Wright Patterson Air Force Base where she met her late husband, Jim whom she married on August 21, 1945. Rosalie and her husband Jim moved back to the Hupman Homestead in 1961 while raising their four children. Rosalie was a hard worker and helped manage the farm while they raised over 100 head of registered Polled Hereford cattle and their egg business which delivered fresh eggs all over the Miami Valley for over 45 years. In 1995, Rosalie and Jim were honored by the state of Ohio for their century family-owned farm. Rosalie also recently celebrated having a Mary Kay business for 30 years, during which time she received many accolades including earning the use of a Mary Kay car.

Rosalie loved being outdoors and gardening. She was famous for her beautiful impatients. She loved reading the Bible, singing in choirs and being in church. Rosalie was a member of First Congregation Christian Church for over 40 years where she taught Sunday School and Lighthouse Christian Center for over 20 years and was their unofficial greeter who made everyone feel welcome. She enjoyed being with her friends, praying for people and loved her family dearly.

Rosalie is survived by her four children, Rita and husband Gary McCans of Greenville, John and wife Kathy Hupman of Greenville, Mary Morgan of Vandalia, and Ruth and husband Michael Stoots of Naples, Florida; 6 grandchildren, David and Jennie McCans, Kristin (McCans) and Eric Fee, Jessica (Stoots) and Rob Reuthe, Jason Hupman, Jeremy Hupman, and Joseph Stoots; and 6 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 12:00 – 3:00 PM at the Lighthouse Christian Center, 5256 Sebring-Warner Road in Greenville. A Celebration of Life funeral service will be at 4:00 PM also at the church with the Rev. Eric Fee and Rev. Hershel Fee being asked to officiate.

Darlene E. Fullroth (October 11, 2010)

Darlene E. Fullroth, 65 of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away Monday evening, October 11, 2010 at St.Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

She was born August 11, 1945 in Jay County, IN, daughter of the late Harry and Alvina (Fickert) Trafzer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Keith A. Fullroth on April 28, 1999.

Darlene was retired from Neff Lettering in Greenville where she worked for several years and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of North Star.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey and wife Stacy (Mescher) Fullroth of Rossburg; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jenna Fullroth; brother, Fred (Mary) Trafzer of Wapakoneta; bother-in-law and sister-in-law, Junior and Arlene Fullroth of Greenville,and Phyllis Grewe of Versailles; nieces and nephews

Services will be held Friday, October 15 at 2 p.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Donna K. Bergman (October 10, 2010)

Donna K. Bergman, 50, of Brookville, OH passed away Sunday afternoon, October 10, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

She was born November 23, 1959 in Harlan County, KY daughter of the late Joe, Jr. and Ruth Evelyn (Helton) Riggs. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kennedy.

She is survived by her son, Jason Cox of Cleveland, OH; one grandchild; sisters, Pat (Doyle) Campbell of Arcanum, Rita F. Custer of Greenville, Ora Mae Peer of Brookville and Tammy (Terry) Newman of Laura; a brother, James Riggs of Brookville; and nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at the Gettysburg Cemetery near Gettysburg, Ohio.

There will be no public visitation.

Dylan Eugene (Menger) Stith age 18 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 3:32 P.M. on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Wayne Hospital E.R. in Greenville. Dylan was born December 19, 1991 in Greenville, Ohio, to Shelly (Stith) and Jamie Menger of Greenville.

Dylan was a senior at Greenville High School with the graduating class of 2011. Dylan loved riding dirt bikes, fishing, music and tattoos.

In addition to his parents, Dylan is survived by his brothers, Joshua, Jakob and Erik; sisters, Ashley, Breann and Ashlyn; special friend, Erin Marie Hart of Greenville; nieces and nephews, Damian, Cawner, Emma and Kylee; maternal grandparents, Lloyd ande Harriet Stith of Greenville; paternal grandparents, Linda and Bill Alvey of Madison, Ohio, and Kenny and Sylvia Menger of Tennessee; and aunts, uncles, cousins and a sister-in-law.

Bernard W. "Jake" Barga (October 6, 2010)

Bernard W. “Jake” Barga age 91 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 6:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Versailles Health Care Center. Jake was born July 17, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Louis N. and Eleanora C. (Goubeaux) Barga.

Jake was a retired farmer and construction worker. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a former P.O.W. Jake was awarded with a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

In addition to his parents, Jake is also preceded in death by his brothers, Norbert, Martin, Paul, Noah and Leo Barga; and sisters, Cecilia Gasson, Agnes Kissinger, Lucy Petitjean, Beatrice Barga and Clara Subler.

Jake is survived by his brothers, Basil Barga of Versailles, Vitalus Barga of Greenville and Mark Barga of Bradford; sisters, Rita Borland of Sidney and Iva Wion of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Avona V. Wilson-Rexrode (October 7, 2010)

Avona V. (Peden) Wilson-Rexrode, 91, of Sidney and formerly of Greenville, passed away on October 7, 2010 at the Fair Haven Shelby County Home. She was born on December 9, 1918 to the late Denver and Tryphena (Flatter) Peden.

Avona worked at Westinghouse in assembly. She was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church in Greenville. Avona enjoyed volunteering and did so for Wayne Health Care and the White Shrine of Greenville. She liked to sew, crochet and travel, especially with the Corning bus trips.

In addition to her parents, Avona is preceded in death by her first husband, Dorsey D. Wilson who passed away in 1980, second husband, Curtis Rexrode who passed away in 1992; two brothers, George Peden and Ira Peden; two sisters, Doreen Lindamood and Audrey Collet.

Avona is survived by a daughter, Loise Thumel of Sidney; two grandsons, Michael T. Thumel of Libertyville, Illinois and Kevin N. Thumel of Millberry, Ohio; three great- grandchildren, Alison, John and Domineck Thumel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. Mildred P. Eliker (October 5, 2010)

Mildred P. (McKee) Laird Eliker, 101, of Greenville, passed away on October 5, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Mildred was born in Franklin County, Indiana on August 21, 1909 to Clifford and Opha (Conrey) McKee.

Mildred was a member of the West Manchester United Church of Christ. She was a mother, homemaker and worked on a dairy farm with her husband. Mildred also worked at FRAM in Greenville and the Richmond Baking Company. She enjoyed her family, playing cards, reading, cross-stitching, gardening and her flowers.

In addition to her parents, Mildred is preceded in death by her first husband, Roy “Dick” Laird; second husband, Rollin Eliker; and a brother, Forrest McKee.

Mildred is survived by a son, Ronald E. (LeeAnn) Laird of Sebring, Florida; a daughter, Carole A. (Jack) Coblentz of New Madison, Ohio; a granddaughter, Chanda R. (Philip) Nichols of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Ashlyn Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 7, 2010 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. directly after the visitation with the Rev. Bob Bitner being asked to officiate. Burial will follow in the Monroe Twp. Cemetery. Roxie Jane Norris, 94, of Greenville, died Wednesday morning, October 6, 2010 at Brethren Retirement Community. Mrs. Norris was born in Greenville on May 7, 1916, the daughter of the late Simon W. and Pearl I. (Stephens) Bashore. She was a retired employee of the former Roarkes Furniture Store, Laura. Jane was preceded in death by her first husband William Ellison who died in 1955 and her second husband Hobart Norris who died July 16, 1976, a Grandson Kelly Ellison, Brothers Roger and Raymond Bashore, Sisters Arceel Fellers, Helen Saintignon, and Dorothy Street. She is survived by her son Bill Ellison and companion Donna Eberwein of Arcanum; Granddaughters Roxanne Asterman and husband Tim of Jacksonville, Florida and Rosalee Hein and husband Jon of Greenville; a Grandson Kerry Ellison and wife Kelly of Wayne Lakes; Grand Daughter-in-law Deb Dynes; 11 Great Grandchildren; 5 Great Great Grandchildren; Sister Betty McEldowney of Greenville. Nancy Ann Marrs age 67 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 9:30 P.M. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. Nancy was born August 17, 1943 in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Ralph E. and Mary E. (Black) Johnston Sr.

Nancy retired from Longfellow Elementary School in Sidney, where she taught 3rd grade. Nancy had taught for 34 years. Nancy was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church; O.E.A.; and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was also preceded in death by her husband, William F. Marrs.
Nancy is survived by a son, Kevin Marrs of Versailles; granddaughter, Sara Marrs of Moraine; brother, Ralph E. Johnston Jr. of Versailles; nieces, Alicia and Sam Meadows of Taos, New Mexico and Libby and Chad Kennard of Grand Junction, Colorado; and a great niece and nephew, Jade and Ashton Meadows.

Levi B. Dickey age 33 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his residence. Levi was born April 14, 1977 in Troy, Ohio, to Tuanjai (Phokai) Dickey of Greenville and Larry & Karen Dickey of Greenville.

Levi was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville, where he was a Deacon. Levi was a 4-H advisor of the Buckeye Buckaroos.

Levi is preceded in death by a brother, Allan Visetchaisri; and paternal grandparents, Charles & Mildred Dickey.

In addition to his parents, Levi is survived by his wife, Tiffany (Meckes) Dickey, whom he married March 25, 2006; children, Mackenzie Dickey, Logan B. Dickey and Charlie Lynn Dickey; brother; Mark Visetchaisri of Findlay; sisters, Kristy Burkett of Springboro and Anne Spraggins of Bossier City, Louisiana; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mike and Shelley Meckes of Greenville; brother-in-law, Dustin Meckes of Denver, Colorado; and nieces and nephews, Christian Burkett, Tori Spraggins, Robert Spraggins, Brandon Visetchaisri, Tanner Visetchaisri and Nick Shelton.

Mrs. Esther A. Schafer, age 91 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:20 P.M. Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Wayne Health Care Center Greenville, Ohio. Esther was born July 28, 1919 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Frank and Opal (Van Hart) Blumenstock.

She was retired from the former Snell Restaurant of Greenville, a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Greenville and for many years enjoyed working with various crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step mother Winnie (Becholt) Blumenstock, her husband Edward “Joe” Schafer July 20, 1998 and her brother Gerald Blumenstock also in 1998.

Esther is survived by her sons and daughter in law: Jack and Pat Schafer Sr., of West Milton and James Schafer of Greenville. Her grandchildren and spouses: Candi & Ty Hissong, Kristi and Pat Studer, Jack Schafer Jr., and Jami and Rusty Bookout. Great grandchildren and spouse: Nichole and Ben Barr, Dustin Studer, Nicholas Hissong, Abigail Hissong, Ashlee Bookout and Amanda Bookout. Great great grandchildren: Tyler Barr and Alex Barr. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Sheryl A. McClure age 52 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at her residence. She was born on April 8, 1958 in Dayton, Ohio to Dorothy (Armstrong) Miller of Eaton, Ohio, and the late Ramon E. Miller.

Sheryl was employed at Kmart as the Automotive Bookkeeper and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Richmond, IN.

She is survived by her daughter, Crystal McClure of Greenville; granddaughter, Natalie Brewer; special best friend, Chris M. Townsend of Greenville; sister and brother in law, Vicki and Russell “Rad” Sowry of Frostproof, Florida, and Darlene Miller of Ohio; brother, David Miller of Ohio; dogs, Yoda and Katie; nephews, Todd (Sue) Hanish of Greenville, and Troy Hanish of Seminole, Florida; 2 great nephews; 1 great niece; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville with Pastor Bill Lyle officiating. Louis E. Meyer (October 2, 2010)

Louis E. "Louie" Meyer, age 90, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Hospice of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. He was born on December 1, 1919, in Troy, Ohio, to the late Louis A. and Clara (Handle) Meyer. His wife of 68 years, Nonie H. (Horton) Meyer, survives.

Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas R. and Peggy A. Meyer of Dayton, Ohio, and Timothy E. and Jean L. Meyer of Prospect, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Nonie L. and Danny Chick of Powell; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Burkholder.

Louie was a graduate of Troy High School and served as Corporal in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He was an active life-long member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Troy Elks; a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Marys Catholic Church, Greenville. Louie was the former Mayor of Wayne Lakes, Ohio, and a long time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, where he was an usher and a member of the choir.

He was formerly employed by Waco Aircraft Company, Troy Sunshade Company and Braun Brothers in Troy.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy,with Rev. Fr. James Duell officiating. Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 4-8PM at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service at 7:00PM.

C. Gerald “Curly” Clum age 82 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 4:31 PM at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio. He was born on September 8, 1928 in Rural Ada, Ohio to the late Jesse Earl and Jennie Belle (Diltz) Clum.

Gerald worked as the manager of West Side Elevator in Greenville, Ohio for 32 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served on many committees. Gerald loved sports and fishing at Blossom Lake. He especially loved his grandchildren and never missed one of their sport events.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laura Clum; brothers and sisters, Connie Leiber, Lester Clum, Vivian Miller, and Ross Clum.

Lola “Marie” Bucholtz age 84 formerly of Arcanum, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 8:05 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. Marie was born on December 24, 1925 in Lucas, Kentucky, to the late Edward and Mary Ellen (Tinsley) Brooks.

She was a Homemaker and also worked at the United Telephone Company as a cashier. She was a member and very active at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years and was a Deaconess.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bucholtz on October 6, 2009 and married on May 18, 1947; son, Jim Bucholtz; grandson, Ted Harpest; and sister, Loureed Coate.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Ron and Karen Bucholtz of Greenville, Sharon and Fred Harpest of Greenville, and Tim Bucholtz of Arcanum, Ohio; grandchildren, Ned Bucholtz, Ben Bucholtz, Lyndie (Nate) Sabin, Karie Harpest, and Kaci Harpest.

Patricia J. “Pat” Yount age 76 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Pat was born November 10, 1933 in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Walter & Jenny (Minnich) Reck.

Pat retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base with 37 years of service. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents, Pat is also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

Pat is survived by her husband, Gordon Yount, whom she married June 25, 1955. She is also survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Steve Martin of Milford, Ohio, Tammie and Mike Lewis of Versailles, Kelly and Doug McEldowney of Medina, Ohio and Lisa and Don Berning of Versailles; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother ans sister-in-law, Tom and Luella Reck of Bradford; sister, Jerry Cummins of Troy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
