Betty M. Mayo (November 29, 2012)

Betty M. Mayo, 81, of Greenville and formerly of Rossburg, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 29, 2012 at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born November 10, 1931 in Ansonia, daughter of the late Louis and Bessie (Miller) Hesson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Mayo; sisters, Mary Hines and Dorothy Labig; and brothers, Lloyd, Gene, and Paul Hesson.

Betty was retired from Masters Industries in Ansonia after 20 years. She was member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph W. Mayo, whom she married February 3, 1951; children, Deborah (John) Kremer of Ft. Loramie, Ralph D. (Anita) Mayo of Ringsgold, GA, Douglas (Darlene) Mayo of Lewisburg, Dennis (Tracy) Mayo of Arcanum, Denise (Rick) Lee of Ansonia, Timothy Mayo of Joliet, IL, and Teresa Hammons of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Brad, Jessica, and Nicole Baker, Jacob Kremer, Kelly, Cory, Zach, Clint, Katie, and Kyndal Mayo, Erin and Justin Lee, and Emila Hammons; 1 step great daughter; 3 great grandsons; a sister, Marg (John) Kell of Greenville; numerous nieces and nephews; and special caregivers Annie, Corinne, Juanita, Alissa, and Teresa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Frenchtown with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrating. Private burial will be held later in the Holy Family Cemetery, Frenchtown.

The family will receive friends at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Monday, December 3 from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service being offered at 4:45 p.m.

Lorain Paul, 64 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday November 28, 2012 at 8:34 AM at her residence. She was born September 8, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of the late John & Lida (Hudson) Paul. She retired as a nurse at Upper Valley Medical Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Sister: Sheila Paul.

She is survived by her son & daughter in law: Joshua & Evette Paul of Arcanum; grandchildren: Ashton & Adalyn Paul; brother: John Paul of California.

Michael A. Young (November 27, 2012)

Michael A. Young, 47, of Ansonia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, November 27, 2012 at his residence.

He was born May 23, 1965 in Greenville, son of Larry and Jane (Wisner) Young of New Weston.

Mike was a 1983 graduate of Mississinawa Valley. He was a heavy equipment operator for Erie Boring LLC.

In addition to his parents he was survived by his wife of 12 years, Laura M. (Yaney) Young, whom he married August 14, 2000; step children, Dustin Hoeing, Star Ahrens, and Katie (Scott) Daisy; 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; a sister, Melissa (Jeff) Young; a nephew, Casey (Sarah) Young; and great niece, Lily.

Private services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Kelly Moody officiating.

Ronald Leedom (November 25, 2012)

Ronald Leedom age 75 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:30 A.M. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at his residence. Ronald was born October 30, 1937 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Delbert & Stella (Burk) Leedom.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo (Hall) Leedom whom he married November 13, 1958; children, Terry Lee & Ruthanna Leedom of Greenville, Rocky & Lisa Leedom of Arcanum and Michelle & Douglas Ketring of Laurel, Indiana; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Ronald is also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Larson; and a brother, Tommy Wion.

Ronald served in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from Fram Corporation in Greenville, where he was a metal fabricator. Ronald was a life member of the Greenville Am Vets. Ronald enjoyed turkey shoots; hunting, fishing, hunting mushrooms and was an all around sportsman.

A gathering will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Abbottsville United Methodist Church in Abbottsville with Pastor Chris Harris officiating. Harold W. Holmes (November 24, 2012)

Harold W. Holmes age 91, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:15 P.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his residence. Harold was born August 8, 1921 in Germantown, Ohio to the late Stanley & Hattie Holmes.

Harold is survived by his wife of 72 years, Cathleen (Price) Holmes whom he married August 10, 1940; daughter, Marcia Garland of Greenville; step grandchildren, Bill Garland, Bradley Joe Garland and Gina Trobridge; 8 step great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren; brothers, Tom Holmes of North Carolina, Nick Holmes of North Carolina, Jack Holmes of Virginia, Willie Holmes of Virginia, David Holmes of Virginia, Ray Holmes of Louisiana, Bobby Holmes of Dayton, Ohio and Russell Holmes of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Connie of Florida, Juanita of Louisiana and Delores Ann Martin of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harold is also preceded in death by an infant, Marion Holmes; brothers, Carl, Richard, Stanley Jr., Phil and Ralph Holmes; and a sister, Marylou.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Harold is retired from Del-Mar Cabinet Company in Union City, Indiana where he was a cabinetmaker. Harold was a Life Member of the V.F.W. in Greenville. He attended the Hollansburg Christian Church in Hollansburg.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Joe Hanna officiating. Bonnie Sue Cooper age 64, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:59 P.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the E.R. at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. Bonnie was born November 19, 1948 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Floyd & Maxine Anna (Boze) Cooper.

Bonnie is survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Ralph & Edie Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister & brother-in-law, Betty & Lyndon Monnin of Russia, Ohio; nephews, Brent & Tina Cooper of Columbus, North Carolina, Jeff & Darlene Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana, Scott & Laura Monnin of Russia, Ohio and Terry & Stephanie Monnin of Versailles, Ohio; and numerous great & great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie is also preceded in death by a brother, Daniel B. Cooper.

Bonnie retired from Kroger in Greenville, where she worked in the bakery for 27 years. Bonnie was also a former waitress at Gerschuh’s Restaurant in Greenville for over 15 years. Bonnie loved to travel and visiting Europe in her younger years.

Lisa M. (Williams) Klosterman (November 23, 2012)

Lisa M. (Williams) Klosterman, 46, of Greenville passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 23, 2012. Lisa was born on June 27, 1966 to Betty (Morris) Koffer and the late Paul Williams.

Lisa loved spending time with her children and her granddaughter, Kaylee and her "extra kids". She enjoyed listening to classic rock and roll music, and her favorite band was KISS. Lisa loved to watch movies and read books by Stephen King in her spare time.

In addition to her father, Lisa is preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Williams and David Williams; and a sister, Connie Fourman.

Lisa is survived by her mother, Betty and husband, Larry Koffer of Greenville; two sons, Josh Klosterman and girlfriend, Kimberly Hoehne of Greenville and David Harrison of Greenville; a daughter, Jessica Williams and boyfriend, Justin Fletcher of Greenville; a best friend, Chellie Young of Greenville; a brother, Dan and Jama Williams of St. Augustine, Florida; a step-sister, Manya Noonan-Byers of Las Vegas; a step-brother, Tony and Ailene Koffer of Corpus Christie, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 4:00 PM at the Church of the Nazarene, 7584 St. Rt. 118, Greenville with the Rev. Wayne Thomas being asked to officiate. Millie (Miller) Short, 64, of New Madison, Ohio passed away on November 21, 2012 at Reid Hospital. Millie was born in Richmond, Indiana on May 6, 1948 to the late Charles and Esther (Kellam) Miller.

Millie was a 1966 graduate of Westmont High School in Hollansburg. She worked as a greeter at Walmart in Greenville. Millie loved to spend time with family and friends. She was an avid reader and bird watcher.

Millie is survived by her son, Brian and Tammy Short of Arcanum; a daughter, Paula and Dan Walden of New Madison; eight grandchildren, Britney, Skylar and Carson Short, Megan, Hannah and Gabby McCarroll, and Danny and Sophie Walden; two brothers, Duane Miller of Hollansburg and Ed and Loretta Miller of Lynn, Indiana; two sisters, Iris Ballinger of Richmond and Nancy Champ of Ansonia; Sisters in law Carolyn Nicholson of Fountain City, Indiana and Therese Miller of Greenville; brothers in law, Max and Alice Short of New Paris, PA, Don Short of Arcanum, Ken and Lottie Short of Waverly, Ohio and John Cramer of Marana, Arizona and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Robert Eugene Matthews, Sr. (November 20, 2012)

Robert Eugene Matthews, Sr. passed away at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio, on November 20, 2012, with his granddaughter Jennifer at his side. He was born on March 23, 1918, to Roy Eugene and Mary Agnes Hart Matthews in Buck’s Corner, Darke County, Ohio. Predeceasing him were his wife of 70 years, Onda Fae Hopper, whom he married on June 22, 1940; his son, Larry Ray Matthews; and his son-in-law, Milton Dale Aldridge. Surviving him are his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Fred Hoff; his son, Robert Eugene Matthews, Jr.; and daughter in-law, Beverly Grooms Matthews. Also, are his 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Dan Bozone, Rachael Aldridge, Gretchen and Luigi Morfea, Carrie and Keith Trader, Aaron and Ginny Matthews, Janelle Gannon and Melinda and Gentric Isaacson. His great-grandchildren include: Chelsea and Emmalea Bozone; Nicolas and Christopher Morfea; Rhianna, Hope, Isabella, Eryn, and Rhys Trader; Amanda and Sara Matthews; and Rae Ann Gannon. He was also preceded by his siblings and their spouses: Ralph Leroy and Lucille Matthews; Kenneth Harold Matthews, who passed away at the age of 12; Cecil Eldon Matthews; Ruth Irene and Lee Engle; Estella Pauline and Chester Greer; Mildred Gertrude and Gerald Pearson; and Edith Olive and Robert Martin. Surviving him are his sister-in-law, Florine Martin Matthews, wife of Cecil Eldon, and several nieces and nephews.

Bob spent his early years in Buck’s Corner, Savona and Jaysville with his seven siblings attending a one-room schoolhouse, participating in 4-H, and farming. His fondest childhood memories often mention his two horses Daisy and Maisy. In his teenage years, he met Onda Fae Hopper, and on Saturday nights would meet with her at the local five and dime, before they married in 1940. Bob was always a fan of cars and machinery, as he proudly owned 34 cars in his lifetime and retired as a tool and die maker from NCR and General Motors. Bob, Onda and their three children built their own house under bob’s leadership on St. Rte. 49. He enjoyed being involved with his children through 4H, Cub Scouts and Brownies, Rainbow Girls and Demolay Boys, and school activities. Bob was a bowler an avid golfer, playing his last 18 holes at the age of 89. In 1946, his name was entered on the Wheatie’s Breakfast of Champions, Hole-in-One Club Honor Roll in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During the 1960’s Bob and Onda began to enjoy camping and traveling with local camping clubs and the National Campers and Hikers Association, where he was an active officer. They traveled through all fifty states, into Central America, and the Caribbean. For close to 50 years, they camped at The Great Darke County Fair, where he managed admissions at the Grand Stand for 34 years. They were selected as the 2011 Grand Marshalls of the Great Darke County Fair Parade. Together they enjoyed spending time with Onda’s sisters, “the Hopper girls”, and their husbands, Ellen and Paul Peters, Patricia and Ralph Pottkotter, Myrna Detling, and Carol and Jim Hart. Over the years, Bob and Onda frequently attended Fort Jefferson United Methodist Church, functions of area Senior Citizens clubs, dined out with their camping friends, and participated in Masonic and Shriners activities.

Bob was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge #143; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton where he was a 32nd Degree Mason; Antioch Shrine of Dayton and the Darke County Shrine Club.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. with A Masonic Memorial Service conducted by the Greenville Masonic Lodge at 7:45 P.M. followed by the Scottish Rite Ring Service at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Hershel Fee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens in Darke County. A luncheon will follow graveside services with details announced at the funeral home. Robert R. "Bob" Gaines, 76, of Greenville, passed away Friday evening, November 16, 2012 at Heartland of Greenville.

George Robert Puterbaugh (November 17, 2012)

George Robert Puterbaugh, 91 of Ringgold, Georgia, passed away on Saturday November 17, 2012 at Rosewood Assisted Living Community, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was born January 5, 1921 in Ansonia, Ohio the son of the late Oscar & Myra (Lear) Puterbaugh. He served in the United State Marine Corp in World War II fighting in the Guadalcanal. He worked at H.D. Giesler Company in Dayton Ohio for 20 years as Office Manager and in sales.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife: Edith Irene (Hines) Puterbaugh; 2nd wife: Grace Elizabeth (Nee Bentz Tatom) Puterbaugh; son: Gregory A. Puterbaugh.

He is survived by his children & spouses: Michael L. & Patsy Puterbaugh of Ringgold, Georgia, Patricia A. & Keith Thompson 0f West Carrollton, Ohio, Ronald D. & Judith Puterbaugh of Meridian, Idaho; step son & daughter in law: James T. & Angela Tatom of Fort Wentworth, Georgia; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren.

She was born June 2, 1945 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Darrel & Bernice (Rosa) Wetzel. She was a school teacher at Mississinawa Valley Schools, Franklin Monroe Schools, & Greenville Schools & she was a school psychologist for the Darke County Educational Service Center. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Lee A Bixler on November 4, 2000; Brother: Wayne Wetzel.

She is survived by her children & spouses: Aaron & Cindi Bixler of Oxford, Ohio, Anne Marie (Bixler) & Matt Tonsing of Longmeadow, MA; Grandchildren: Jenna & Max Bixler, Mallory & Tess Tonsing; Brother: Dennis Wetzel of Greenville; Sisters: Roberta Feltman of Greenville, Betty Lou Johanson of West Milton, Carolyn Sims of Oakwood, Ohio.

Helen L. Bruner Brown (November 14, 2012)

Helen L. Bruner Brown, age 90 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 1:50 P.M. Wednesday November 14, 2012 at the Brethren Retirement Community. She was born March 26, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Ira & Laura (Royer) Foureman.

Helen was retired from Fram Corporation of Greenville, and then was the original owner of Helen’s Flower Shop, also of Greenville until 1983.

Helen was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband Otho Bruner August 1, 1981; Husband Glen E. Brown September 12, 2003; son in law Joe Gunckle in 1990; granddaughter Lisa Dawn Gilpin in 1976; step daughter Carolyn “Jeannie” Eubank in 2011; brother Bill Foureman in 2011 and sister Margaret Delaplane.

Helen is survived by sons Ron & Norma Bruner of Greenville and Rick & Marcia Bruner of Arcanum; daughters Sue & Steven Shaffer of Denver, CO. and Lynne & Harvey Hinshaw of Arcanum; step son Don & Barbara Brown of Sebastian, Fl. There are 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, sisters Virginia Weyrick of Greenville and Jane Jobes of Arcanum and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday November 20, 2012 in the Greenville Church of the Brethren 421Central Ave., Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio and on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of services in the church.

Oliver Oswalt, Stillborn, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He is the son of Adam & Kimberly (Hummel) Oswalt of Springfield, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Jack & Janice Hummel of New Weston, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Julia & Victor Kim of Greenville, and Paul & Melissa Oswalt of Union City, Ohio; paternal great grandmother, Louise Oswalt of Greenville, Ohio; aunts and uncles, David & Shannon Condon of Greenville, Kevin & Kelly Winner of New Weston, Ohio, and Jared & Christi Hummel of Rossburg, Ohio; as well as numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, Roger & Martha Powell and Harold Oswalt; maternal great grandparents, Gregor & Monica Grevencamp and Albert & Eva Hummel.

Wilma P. Rutan, 90 of Brookville, Ohio and Formerly of New Madison, Ohio and retired to Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 1:50 PM at the Villas of Brookhaven, Brookville, Ohio. She was born December 11, 1921 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Gala R. & Flossie (Bozworth) Harter. She was a bus driver for New Madison Schools and also had worked at Perfect Circle in Richmond, Indiana.

She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, she was past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; she was a member of Eta Pi Cappa of New Madison; she was a volunteer at Wayne Hospital; she delivered meals on wheels for 11 years; she loved the Darke County Fair.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Byron Rutan on December 9, 2009; sisters: Thalia Zeller, & Verda Striet; brother: Marlowe Harter.

She is survived by her son & daughter in law: Phillip & Deborah Rutan of Englewood, Ohio; daughter & son in law: Jerolyn “Jeri” & Boyd Hastings of Brookville, Ohio; grandchildren & spouses: Phillip & Tina Hastings, Aaron & Meg Hastings,

Michael Levi Dickey (November 9, 2012)

U.S. Army SFC (Ret) Michael Levi Dickey was born September 17, 1965, in Greenville, Ohio to William and Irene Beatrice (Funk) Dickey. He died November 9, 2012 at his home with family by his side in Fletcher, Oklahoma at the age of 47. After graduating high school in Greenville, SFC Dickey entered the US Army on September 9, 1983 where he had a long and distinguished military career for twenty two years. He served in Korea, Southwest Asia, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm June to October 1991 also Iraqi Freedom March to November 2003. During his career he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal (8th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Korea Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (K), Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Noncommissioned Officer's, Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Expert Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver-W Bar, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He married his high school sweetheart Katharine Jean Morris on December 23, 1983 in Greenville, Ohio. SFC Dickey is a member of the Military Order of Saint Barbara, and the Order of the Spur 11th Cav. He was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers William Dickey, and Kenneth Wayne Dickey and one sister Suzanne Irene Dickey.

SFC Dickey is survived by his Wife, Kathy, of Fletcher; two daughters, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Amanda Moreau and husband U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joseph Moreau of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Heather Michelle Dickey, of Fletcher; an uncle, Mac Goodpaster of Greenville; and numerous cousins.

Services were held in Oklahoma with burial in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin OK.

Thomas J. Rose (November 12, 2012)

Thomas J. Rose, 51, of Greenville, passed away Monday morning, November 12, 2012 at Heartland of Greenville.

He was born in Union City, IN, son of Kenneth G. "Joe" and Joyce M. (Coblentz) Rose of Ansonia.

A 1980 graduate of Ansonia High School, Tom had spent several years working at Kroger in Greenville and more recently at Walmart in Winchester, IN. He was a member of the Beamsville Christian Church.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, William Rose of Englewood; a sister, Rebecca Rose of Greenville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at the Beamsville Christian Church with Pastor Steve Short officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Joan (Beard) Mowry whom he married August 4, 1977; children, Shelly & Barry Miller of Winchester, Indiana, Ronald E. & Melanie Mowry of Greenville, Joe & Deb Atkinson of Lebanon, Tim & Kaylene Atkinson of McClure and Martie Wimberly of Englewood; 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, Jim & Sally Mowry of Michigan, Gary & Monica Mowry of Michigan and Jack & Val Mowry of Michigan; and sister-in-law, Delores Mowry of Michigan.

In addition to his father, Ronald is also preceded in death by a step son, Russell Anthony Atkinson; and a brother, Dan Mowry.

Ronald served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Ronald retired in 2007 from Huntington Bank with 40 years of service in the banking industry. Ronald was very active in the Christian Motorcycle Association. He was a former member of the Greenville Lions Club.

Treva E. Marker (November 7, 2012)

Treva E. Marker, age 92 of Raleigh, North Carolina and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 6:50 P.M. Wednesday November 7, 2012 at the Uni Health Post-Acute Care Center of Raleigh, N.C. Treva was born December 17, 1919 in Piqua, Ohio and the daughter of the late Charles Oliver & Esta Fern (Faehl) Murphy.

She had formerly been employed for 20 years as a PBX Operator with the Treaty Company of Greenville. A member of the First Congregational Christian Church and Alpha Delta Omega Sorority of Greenville and a Volunteer at Wayne Hospital, also of Greenville.

In addition to her parents, Treva was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Marker September 1987; brothers Ferdie Murphy and Ralph Murphy, half-brother Raymond Atkinson and Sister Orpha Barron.

Treva is survived by her daughter Karen Marker (Patrick) Driscoll of Cary, N.C.; grandchildren Richard G. (Ann-Marie) Rhoads Jr. and Cynthia R. (Chris) McQueen; great grandchildren Chelsea Fellers, Kyle Rhoads, William Merrill and Brandon McQueen; half-sisters Ruby Sholley and Virginia Sipe and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday November 13, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. She was born March 31, 1950 in Greenville, daughter of the late Lloyd and Willhemenia M. (Billenstein) Wentworth.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Ansonia First Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Tedd Pratt; children, Sharon (Bruce) Snyder of Greenville, Ann (David) Jadischke of Hillard, OH, and Trixie (friend, Richard Whitley) Pratt of Arcanum; grandchildren, Nathan and Henry Snyder, Jacob, Sarah, Ryan, and Toby Jadischke; a sister, Janice Ross of Bellbrook; sister-in-law, Karen Mikolic; and an aunt, Judy VanScoyk.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, at the Ansonia First Church of God, with Pastor David Hackney officiating. Burial will follow at the Ithaca Cemetery.

Vernon Bruce Bridges (November 11, 2012)

Vernon Bruce Bridges age 75 of Laura, Ohio passed away at 12:50 P.M. Sunday November 11, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. He was born April 25, 1937 in Troy, Ohio and the son of the late Mearl & Jeanne (McMaken) Bridges.

He was retired from Dayton Progress as a Tool & Die maker and owner of Industrial Specialties of Laura.

Vernon was a member of Arcanum Masonic Lodge #295, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite—Valley of Dayton and the Greenville Matchett Council #91. He enjoyed fishing and his work.

He is survived by his wife Rita J. (Washington) Bridges of Laura. They were married September 11, 1960. Also by sons and daughter in law Bruce Lynn Bridges of Dayton and Tyler Lee and Linda Bridges of Union City. Ohio. Grandchildren Taylor Bridges, Jarryd Bridges, Sean Bridges, Jenna Bridges and Dexter Bridges. Brother and sister in law Kent and Marilyn Bridges of New Madison, mother in law Helen Washington of Laura and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dan G. Hunt, age 71, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 12:20 PM at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on October 1, 1941 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late George W. & Beatrice (Blakeley) Hunt.

Dan is survived by his wife Hattie (Vanata) Hunt of Greenville whom he married on August 31, 1963; son, Chris Hunt and Fiancée Dawn Beavers of Greenville; daughter and son in law, Michele & Terry Cook of Bradford, Ohio; grandchildren, Kirstie Hunt, Sydney Hunt, Reece Hunt, Alia Hunt, Shantelle Holeton, Vanessa Cook, Ashley Cook, Dylan Garland, and Bailey Bach; 9 great grandchildren; siblings, Joan (Gene) Dowler of New Madison, Ohio, Joe (Cheryl) Hunt of New Madison, Ohio, and Bonnie (Bill Burkett) Perry of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dan worked at Schultz Motors for 32 years as a mechanic before teaching Auto Tech at Greenville High School for 11 years. He was a member of the Liar’s Club, Annie Oakley Rifle Club, and Moose Lodge. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He was a gun smith and enjoyed guns and target shooting.

There will be a gathering on Monday, November 12, 2012 from 2-5 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. There will be a lodge of sorrow conducted by the Liars Club on Monday at 3:45 PM at the funeral home.

Tom was a former mechanic with Lockwood Performance.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and great papa.

Tom is survived by his wife Shelia A. (Smith) Adney of Ansonia. They were married July 16, 1993. Also by his children: Thomas Jay Adney Jr., Phillip Royce Adney, Jeffery Robert Myers II, Kristie Yovone Adney, Kandi Nicole Moore, Lucinda Kay Staver and Devina Barnard. There are 15 grandchildren and 2 brothers.

Carl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Caroline W. (Stephan) Schutz whom he married June 1, 1947; sons & daughters-in-law, David P. & Karen Schutz of Versailles, Ohio, Mark E. & Linda Schutz of Yorkshire, Ohio, and Jonathan L. Schutz of Yorkshire, Ohio; daughter, Ruth A. Schutz of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Wes Schutz, Ashley Schutz, Ryan Schutz, Jason & Janice Schutz and Nathan Schutz; great-grandchildren, Austin Schutz, Ethin Schutz and Morgan Schutz; and a sister, Martha Rismiller of Rossburg, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Carl is also preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Schutz; and a sister, Esther Billenstein.

Carl served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a farmer. Carl was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willowdell and the Osgood American Legion Post #588.

Charlotte is survived by her husband Cecil C. Holland of Greenville, Ohio, whom she married on August 8, 1949; daughters Debbie Cline of Mooreland, Indiana, and Patti Shepherd of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Erica (Ken) Iwamura, Jeremy (Stephanie) Cline, Natalie Shepherd and Amber Shepherd; great grandchildren Brandon Iwamura, Trevor Iwamura, Christina Martinez, Jaden Martinez and Bryce Hoskins; sister Gloria Watson of Overland Park, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Red was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles; Versailles Knights of Columbus; Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles; Versailles Lions Club and Greenville Elks. Red loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter, horseman and raised world champion beagles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Lois A. Best (November 6, 2012)

Lois A. Best, age 90, went to be with her heavenly Family on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 12:25 AM at Piqua Manor, Piqua, Ohio. Lois was born on April 5, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Ray & Gladys (Dickey) Fourman. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Greenville and Darke County area.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Earl J. Best Jr. on February 10, 1996. They were married on February 9, 1946. Also preceded in death by her sons Marvin L. Best and Myron L. Best; brothers Cecil Fourman and Dale Fourman; sisters Mildred Spencer, Neva Troutman and Edith Fourman.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Marilyn & Donnie McMiller of Greenville; grandchildren Sheryl (Al) Voisard, Jeff (Stacey) McMiller, Kellie Best, Amy (Craig) Hine and Holly (Jared) Irelan; great grandchildren Kali Treon and Justin McMiller; sister Doris Ward of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Greenville Cemetery with Rev. Terry Haworth officiating. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Philip M. Roll (November 1, 2012)

Philip M. Roll, 32, of Piqua and formerly of Greenville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, November 1, 2012 in Piqua.

He was born May 25, 1980 in Greenville, son of Fred and Deb (Flore) Roll of Greenville.

A self employed carpenter, Philip was a 1998 graduate of Greenville High School.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Sara E. (Leugers) Roll, whom he married June 18, 2005; his children, Nickolas and Lauren at home; a sister, Elizabeth Roll, of Greenville; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Beth Leugers of Columbus and Gary Leugers of Bellefontaine; his step grandmother, Dola Roll of Greenville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces.

Services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 10 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Wayne Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the Abbottsville Cemetery near Arcanum.

Marjorie Anne (McElwain) Clum (November 5, 2012)

Marjorie Anne (McElwain) Clum age 83 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 9:16 AM at Hospice of Dayton, Ohio. She was born on November 16, 1928 in Lima, Ohio to the late Richard Clair & Ethel E. (Hefner) McElwain.

Marjorie was a homemaker and worked at West Side Elevator in Greenville, Ohio retiring in 1990. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served in many capacities. She especially loved her grandchildren and never missed one of their events.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband C. Gerald “Curly” Clum, and granddaughter, Laura Clum.

Marjorie is survived by her children and their spouses, Sara Beth Cutarelli of Greenville, Scott (Jane) Clum of Greenville, Spencer (Patty) Clum of Spencerville, Ohio, Amy (Jim) Hanes of Union City, Ohio, and Brian (Pamela) Clum of Union City, Ohio; grandchildren, Tim (Pamela) Cutarelli, Aaron Cutarelli, Beth (Roddy) Guest, Ruth (Troy) Mendenhall, Paul (Camera) Clum, Jesse Clum, Jacob (Jonelle) Clum, Rachel (Chris) Massie, Zac Clum, Joshua (Nicia) Hanes, Joe (Mary) Hanes, Jennie (Chris) Merry, Jamy Hanes, Rebecca (Brant) Watson, and Richard Clum; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Alan (Judy) McElwain of Meadville, Pennsylvania; sister in law, Dorothy Clum of Ada, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Andy McElwain, Adam McElwain, Katy Sutherland, Peter McElwain, and Ann Marie Oestereich; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

There will be a service held on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 131 E. 4th Street, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Wednesday November 7, 2012 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville as well as Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church.

Dale Allen Baker (October 24, 2012)

Dale Allen Baker, 48 of San Diego, California, passed away October 24, 2012 suddenly and peacefully at his home in San Diego.

He was born May 14, 1964 in Greenville, OH, son of Richard William Baker and the late Charlene Virginia (Beatty) Baker.

Dale is survived by his wife Susan (Bopf) Baker and their children Daniel Aaron Baker (11) and Rebecca Ann Baker (6) as well as his father, Richard William Baker of Greenville, OH; brother, John Robert (Jennifer A) Baker and their children Jackson Robert Baker and Johanna Elizabeth Baker of Virginia Beach, VA.

After graduating from Tri-Village High School in 1982, he attended the University of Cincinnati and received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1987. From there, Dale went on to the University of California at San Diego and earned a M.S. in 1988 and Ph.D. in 1992, both in Bioengineering.

Dale was widely appreciated for his research contributions in several areas. He was instrumental in the design and application of sensors for continuous monitoring of glucose for use in diabetes, and especially for lactate, a key metabolic substrate related to exercise. He used his lactate sensors in collaboration with research colleagues at the Scripps Institute for Oceanography in San Diego for recording metabolism in diving seals, sea lions and turtles. This research lead to a better understanding of how diving mammals manage to remain submerged and active for extended periods on a single breath of air, without negative consequences. Dale also worked on the development of modified hemoglobin for use as a blood substitute in injury and trauma. This may eventually be used as an alternative to transfusions from over-extended blood banks.

Dale was also well-known at UCSD as an outstanding teacher. He had taught a large number of appreciative undergraduate Bioengineering students the basics of biomechanics, physiology, process design, and instrumentation. He was highly regarded for his clear and thoughtful lectures, and his general concern for the students.

Dale was a dedicated father coaching sports teams and a scout leader. He was widely admired by a large of number of co-workers, students and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, November 8, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, OH. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery near Palestine, OH. A ceremony celebrating Dale’s life will be held Saturday, November 17, at the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church in Solana Beach, CA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8:00pm on Wednesday, November 7, and 9:30-10:30am on Thursday, November 8 . The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Surfrider Foundation.

Ralph "Chip" Patrick Roadcap (November 1, 2012)

Ralph "Chip" Patrick Roadcap, 53, of Hollansburg, passed away unexpectedly on November 1, 2012. Chip was born on November 28, 1959 to the late Steve Elverton Roadcap and Patricia Coleen Blanken.

Chip enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking out, old time rock and roll music and working on cars. He always had time for you, and would give you the shirt off his back. Chip was always there to lend a hand.

In addition to his parents, Chip is preceded in death by his step father, Donald Blanken; brothers, Steve Roadcap and Buddy Roadcap and two dogs, gonge and jasper.

Chip is survived by a very special friend, Susan Pedan; two sisters, Dorothy and Wayne Blanken of Greenville and Shirley and Larry McKee of Greenville as well as numerous friends to mourn his passing.

A celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 1 PM at Braund Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Fee being asked to officiate, friends and family may visit from 12 - 1 PM also at the funeral home. Buriul will follow at Hollansburg Cemetery. Raymond J. “Bud” Treon (November 1, 2012)

Raymond J. “Bud” Treon age 94, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 10:44 A.M. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Bud was born September 29, 1918 in Greenville, Ohio to the late William & Alma (Pequignot) Treon.

Bud is survived by his wife of 71 years, Martha E. (Mangen) Treon whom he married June 21, 1941; daughter & son-in-law, Phyllis & Bob Went of Piqua, Ohio; sons & daughters-in-law, Bruce & Theresa Treon of Duncan, South Carolina and Todd & Kelley Treon of Gahanna, Ohio; grandchildren, Aaron Went, Beth Retterbush, Eric Treon, Matthew Treon, Megan Treon and Alex Treon; great grandchildren, Hannah Went, Claire Went, Kara Went, Jake Treon, Abby Claire Treon, Quinten Retterbush, Tatum Retterbush and Brooke Retterbush; brothers, William “Bill” Treon of Versailles, Ohio and Robert Treon of Trenton, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bud is also preceded in death by a grandson, Chad Went; sisters, Kathleen Martin, Nellie Bothast, Ada Shoupp; and an infant sister, Mary Treon.

Bud served in the U.S. Army Infantry during WWII. He retired in 1977 from Poultry Producers in Versailles where he was a truck driver for 34 years. Bud also worked for the Versailles City Park Maintenance Department for 24 years. Bud was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military graveside services conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Melia D. Liles (October 31, 2012)

Melia D. Liles, 73, of New Madison, passed away late Wednesday evening, October 31, 2012 at the Oakley House in Greenville.

She was born August 15, 1939 in Mintonville, KY, daughter of the late Ed and Bonnie (Jasper) Hardwick. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Denny Hardwick; and three sisters, Marie Brown, Sylvia Rice, and Vina Rector.

The seventh of nine children, Melia spent her childhood working on the family farm and socializing at church. She was saved at home after a revival meeting as a teenager with the help of her father. She graduated from Memorial High School and moved to Dayton, OH for work. She met her husband to be while working as a carhop at Frisch’s. She went on to raise four children, drive school bus for handicapped children and teach Sunday school classes.

An artistic and loving lady, she leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Robert B. Liles, whom she married December 4, 1959; sons, John Liles of Brookville and Jerry (Diane) Liles of Springboro; daughters, Sandra (Jason) Netzley of Greenville and Sherry (Matthew) Adkins of Kettering; grandchildren, Daniel, Caleb, Benjamin and Joshua Liles, Lena, Sara, Luke, and Jared Netzley; a great grandson, Samuel; a brother, Ollis Hardwick; sisters, Ada Maggard, Lena Rice, and Verna Reynolds; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 5 at the Faith Baptist Church, 740 Russ Road, Greenville, OH, with Pastor Bill Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Ithaca Cemetery.
