Daniel E. Coulter (May 26, 2012)

Daniel E. Coulter, 61, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, May 26, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, OH.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 4, at the Brick Memorial Cemetery near Union City.

There will be no public visitation.

Services have been entrusted with the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Harry L. Birt (May 30, 2012)

Harry L. Birt, age 84 of New Weston, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2012. He will be missed and remembered by his wife of 55 years, Barbara (Geiling), his son, Brad (Teresa) Birt of New Weston, daughter, Shari (Bruno) Gallo of Orlando, FL., and grandchildren, Nicole Birt, Nick Gallo, and Nina Gallo.

Harry served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a past clerk of the New Weston Council, a 60 plus year member of the Ft. Recovery Masonic Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Shriners Club of Dayton, Union City Elks, Greenville Friars Club, and treasurer of Ansonia High School Alumni Association.

Harry was second generation owner and operator of Birt’s Store, which has been family owned and operated for 92 years.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the First Congressional Christian Church at 115 W. Fifth Street in Greenville, Ohio at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ansonia Alumni Association Scholarship Fund in care of Mrs. Mamie Warrick. 5000 Beamsville-Union City Rd. Ansonia, Ohio 45303.

Warren L. Arnold (May 31, 2012)

Warren L. Arnold, age 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:28 A.M. Thursday May 31, 2012 at his daughter’s residence in Englewood, Ohio. Warren was born March 29, 1927 in Darke County Ohio and the son of the late Paul H. and Norma (Van Arsdalen) Arnold.

Warren was retired having worked from 1948 until 1956 as a Trooper with the Ohio State Patrol, a truck driver with Manfredi Trucking Company from 1974 until 1988, Greenville Technology from 1989 until 1995 and later for 7 years drove the Bookmobile for the Greenville Public Library.

He was a Veteran, serving during W.W. II and the Korean War with the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Greenville V.F.W. Warren also attended the Greenville Church of the Brethren on Central Avenue.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Sheilla (Fansler) Arnold in April 1990. Also by a daughter Kristina Franz in 2008; and brothers Wayne and Dwight Arnold.

Warren is survived by daughters and son in law Angela and Mel Caupp of Englewood, Ohio and Rebecca Emerick of Evansville, Indiana. Grandchildren Shawn Kunkle, Shannon Edwards, Jason Kunkle, Jonathan Caupp and Jennifer Monroe. There are 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday June 5, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastors Ralph Helm and Bill Kidwell co-officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens Greenville, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 until 7 P.M. in the funeral home.

Judy E. Voisard (May 30, 2012)

Judy E. Voisard, age 68, of Versailles, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 4:10 PM at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Ohio. She was born on July 21, 1943 in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Orville and Mary (Ginn) Simmons.

Judy is survived by her children, Mark (Susan) Voisard, Steve Voisard, Lisa Voisard, and Scott (Kelly) Voisard all of Versailles, Ohio; grandchildren, Adam Voisard, Amber (Ryan) Whittaker, Shelby, Hannah, Grace, and Noah Voisard, and Ashlee Voisard; great grandchildren, Kaiden, Chase and Damien Whittaker; and brothers, Thomas J. Simmons and James T. Simmons.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Voisard; sister, Mary Katherine; grandsons, Michael Voisard and Jacob Voisard.

Judy was a loving mother, grandma, and great grandma. She worked at various establishments throughout Darke County in her lifetime.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Monday from 12:30 – 2:30 PM at the funeral home.

Jerry W. Kreitzer (May 28, 2012)

Jerry W. Kreitzer age 56 of Union City, Ohio, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at his residence. Jerry was born September 30, 1955 in Union City, Indiana, to the late Leonard & Florence May (Brown) Kreitzer.

Jerry is survived by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Richard L. Jones of Jacksonville, Florida, Dale A. & Lois Jones of North Carolina, Ronnie E. Sr. & Mary Kreitzer of Greenville, Ohio and Tony S. Kreitzer & Sherrel of Union City, Ohio; sisters & brothers-in-law, Patricia D. & Kenneth Hill of Union City, Ohio, twin sister, Terry E. & William Swartz of Greenville and Rose M. Edwards of Greenville, Ohio; his dogs, Lucy Lu and May; aunts, Irene Keller of Greenville, Ohio, Betty Brown of Greenville, Ohio and Ruby Kreitzer of Greenville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by a nephew, Ronnie Kreitzer Jr.
Jerry retired from Whirlpool Corporation in Greenville and formerly worked at Triangle Pacific in Union City, Indiana. Jerry was a 1974 graduate of Greenville High School. Jerry served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jerry was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Union City, Indiana. He was an avid bingo player.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Doris Irene Bowers (May 28, 2012)

Doris Irene (Benjamin) Bowers, 77, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2012 at Brethren Retirement Community. Doris was born on January 18, 1935 in Richmond, Indiana to the late Raymond and Bertha (Hines) Benjamin.

Doris enjoyed many things in her life such as woodworking, crafts, quilting, painting, making dolls, basket weaving, sewing, canning and playing cards. She loved to travel, and traveled overseas to such places as Germany and England. Doris was a long time member of EUM Church in Greenville. She worked at the Gatehouse in Wayne Lakes for a short time as a cook. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Doris is preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene, Nancy and Barbara.

Doris is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Marvin T. Bowers of Greenville; two sons, Michael Bowers of Denver, CO and David Bowers of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Melinda Bowers of Denver, CO; three grandsons, Greg, Ben and Ethan and a sister, Kathy and husband Bill Kyser of Tylersville, KY

The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 12-2 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. Alice Faye Allison (May 27, 2012)

Alice Faye Allison, age 79, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on June 26, 1932 in Lyons, Kansas, to the late Earl Weston & Edna May (Updegrove) Seybert.

Alice is survived by her husband, Vernon C. Allison whom she married on July 21, 1950 in Denver, Colorado; children and spouses, Chris (Debi) Allison, Sandy (Paul) Carey, Mary “Myrrh” (Jef) Jennings, and Bob (Susan) Allison; grandchildren, David (Elizabeth) Carey, Timothy (Anna) Carey, Michael (Holle) Carey, Natalie Carey, Daniel Carey, John Carey, Jacob (Allegra) Carey, Andrew Jennings, Benjamin Jennings, Brian Allison, Scott Allison, and Andrew Allison; great grandchildren, Alanna Carey, Maddox Carey, Liam Carey, Aidan Carey, Jonathan Carey, Felix Carey, and Xavier Carey; sister, Helen Gregory of Geneseo, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her siblings, Anna (Bill) Layman, twins, Leonard & Lester Seybert, Evelyn (Leroy) Loughridge, Lois (John) Hawkins, Sheldon Gregory, Ada (John) Maxwell, Margaret (Donald) Smith, Earl “Wes” (Lou) Seybert, Velma Jean (John) Smith, & Wayne (Bertryl) Seybert.

Alice was a homemaker. She also worked many different jobs throughout her life and volunteered for numerous organizations. She was a member of Ansonia First Church of God. She served as a volunteer for many groups including assistant secretary for the 339th Fighter Squadron Association (USAF), numerous Bible studies, Women’s Aglow, and DeColores. She loved reading, and sewing, and was a great mom, grandma, and great grandma.

Service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Ansonia First Church of God, 750 South Main Street, Ansonia, Ohio, with Pastor Tim Schrock officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery, Brock, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church. Helen J. Wentworth (May 25, 2012)

Helen J. Wentworth, 88, of Greenville, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born July 6, 1923 in Darke County, daughter of the late James Roy and Jessie (Shultz) Riegle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Wentworth on Sept. 21, 2003; a daughter, Connie Sue Wentworth; sisters, Katherine Jenkinson, Betty Altos, Dorothy Williams, Lilly Belle Baker, and Elsie Baker; and brothers, Donald, Virgil, C.B., and Robert Riegle.

Helen was retired from the Mississinawa Schools where she had worked in maintenance for 25 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Union City.

She is survived by her sons, William (Edna) Wentworth of Greenville, and Rick (Dora) Wentworth of Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Seiler of Greenville, and Mary Jane Alexander of Colorado; and a brother-in-law, Loyal "Petey" Jenkinson.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 30 at the Greenville Cemetery with Rev. Lowell Miller officiating.

Jane A. Miller, 80, of Hollansburg, OH, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 24, 2012 at Heartland of Greenville.

She was born May 18, 1932 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of the late James and Edith (Getz) Campanale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jack Miller; a grandson Derik Miller: a sister, Gwen; and brothers, Vernon and Johnny Campanale.

Jane was retired from Reid Hospital were she had worked as a clerk for 20 years. She was a member of the Friendship Community Church of New Paris, American Legion Auxiliary of Hollansburg, Town Squares Quilt Club of Greenville and Ft. Black Order Eastern Stars.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, J. Richard "Dick" Miller whom she married August 4, 1951; children, Jesse "Jim" (Vicky) Miller of Hollansburg, Cavela (Michael) Schneider of Lexington, Indiana, John (Terry) Miller of Greenville; grandchildren, Jesse J. Miller, John, Thomas, and David Schneider, Beth, Sarah, Jack, Austin , and Ashton Miller; great grandchildren, Ciara, Lily, Bryson, and Draydon Miller, Kayelee, Kauai, Montgomery, Audrey, and Wade Schneider.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 31 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, OH. Burial will follow in the Hollansburg Cemetery.

Freda Mae Reier, age 79, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 7:10 AM at her residence. She was born on July 10, 1932 in Red River, Ohio, to the late Stanley & Hazel (Lavey) Beam.

Freda is survived by her husband, Hubert Reier of Greenville, Ohio, whom she married on June 11, 1949; children and spouses, Richard (Marlene) Reier of Ansonia, Steven Reier of Ansonia, Michael (Tammy) Reier of Greenville, Kathern Reier of Greenville, Sheila (Randy) Bradburn of Greenville, Phillip (Sonya) Reier of Greenville, Perry (Lorraine) Reier of Fostoria, Ohio, Kristena (Myron) Damewood of Union City, Ohio, and Melissa (Todd) Alspaugh of Greenville; 32 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Deloris (David) Partin-Cleveland of Hillgrove, Ohio; brothers and sisters in law, Dale (Cindy) Beam of Kentucky, Harold (Deb) Beam of Piqua, Ohio, Ralph (Joanne) Beam of Greenville, and Daniel (Peg) Beam of Ansonia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Freda was a housewife and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses where she based most of her life around. She also loved shopping and traveling.

George Kopp Jr. (May 20, 2012)

George Kopp Jr, 82, of Sidney, Ohio passed away peacefully at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Sidney on Sunday, May 20, 2012. George was born on December 23, 1929 to the late George Delmer and Elva (Baty) Kopp.

George worked at the YMCA in maintenance during his life. He enjoyed being in nature and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by a sister Alice Cole and brothers Donald, Thomas, Arthur and Paul Kopp.

George is survived by his wife Patricia (Cotterman) Kopp whom he married on September 20, 1976, son, John McCoy; step children, Elaine Inman, Lorrie Davis, Anna Marie Burling, Collette Lewis and Vickie Yamaguchi; Sisters, Genevieve Mottsinger and Helen LeMasters.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10 AM at the Sidney Apostolic Church in Sidney.

Bernard (Bernie) K. Dent (May 14, 2012)

Bernard (Bernie) K. Dent, age 89, went to be with his Maker on May 14, 2012. A beloved father and grandfather and ever-so-devoted husband, he was born to Clyde and Bertha Dent in Anderson, Ind on September 5, 1922. He married Mary Jane (Dawley) Dent on May 12, 1946 in Anderson, Ind, and she preceded him in death in 2009. Besides his parents, Bernie is also predeceased by daughter Connie Hobbs and grandson Joshua Fisher.

He is survived by daughter Christy(Jason) Fisher of Greenville, son David (Barbara) Dent of Rockford, Ill., son-in-law Duane Hobbs of Greenville; five grandchildren, Scott(Michelle) Hobbs and Stacy Hobbs of Greenville, Eli Fisher of Portland, Ore., Rachel(Logan)Hamilton of Cambridge, Ill and Ryan Dent, Nashville, Tenn. and three great grandchildren, Lillian, Madeline and Lincoln Hobbs all of Greenville.

Bernie graduated 7th in the Anderson High 1940 graduating class of 391. He was the 35th employee of Sheller Manufacturing Hardy Division in Union City, Ind., in October, 1940, starting as a draftsman. He joined the Army Air Force and went to the South Pacific in October, 1944. He was a Staff Sargent in the 13th Air Force Headquarters Photo Intelligence group in Leyte, P.I. where his group compiled the first 220 aerial photographs of Hiroshima taken after the atomic bomb drop. He was honorably discharged in February, 1946, as a Staff Sergeant with five Battle Stars in the South Pacific Campaign. He continued his love of flying and was an Instrument rated Private Pilot into the 1970's.

Bernie and Jane moved to Greenville in 1953 and joined the First United Methodist Church. He taught the Senior High Sunday School class, helped with youth groups and remained active in the church for his entire life. He was a Scout Cubmaster for five years and he organized and refereed church league basketball for numerous years.

Bernie started the Greenville Tennis Club in 1954 and taught many young people to play his favorite sport. He served as volunteer President of the Greenville City Recreation Commission for 20 years, overseeing the growth of the existing programs and facilities, including the North Park. He was a strong supporter of the school system, active in levy campaigns, and volunteered teaching GHS Drafting classes. He received the VFW Citizenship Award and Kiwanis Citizen of the Year award, and was a member of Greenville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Antioch Shrine, Eastern Star, VFW, and American Legion.

He retired in 1993 as Director of Manufacturing Engineering with United Technologies in Detroit (successors to Hardy Division and Sheller Globe Corp) with 53 years of service. He received the Society of Die Casting Engineers Outstanding Achievement Award at Detroit Cobo Hall in March, 1975, for his research and development work in the die casting field, including a die casting patent in 1972 and served on the International Lead Zinc Research Organization for 20 years. He enjoyed sharing his die casting knowledge at the Greenville Kitchen Aid plant in the 1990's.

A Masonic Service will be conducted on Saturday June 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church 202 West Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio to be followed immediately by a life celebration and a church luncheon. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darke County Chapter of the American Red Cross or volunteer organization of one’s choice.

James B. Thwaits (May 19, 2012)

James B. Thwaits, 76, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2012 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born October 27, 1935 in Rossburg, son of the late Basil K. and Velma (Schlechty) Thwaits. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, William and Patrick Thwaits.

Jim was the owner of the former Thwaits Floor Fashions in Greenville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville. He was also a member of the Greenville Elk's Lodge, Rotary Club of Greenville, the United Methodist Men and formerly the Greenville Schools Athletic Boosters. He was instrumental in obtaining the Green Wave Fire Truck and the signal cannon used at home football games. He had coached the Thwaits baseball team as well as being an avid golfer and enjoyed softball.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol L. (Holzapfel) whom he married July 31, 1954; children, Debbie (Stuart) Powell, Jim (Kelly) Thwaits, John Thwaits, and William Thwaits; 9 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 23 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Ft. Jefferson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to either the Parkinson's Association or Wings of the Morning through the First United Methodist Church.

Bonnie JoAnn (Speck) Booker (May 16, 2012)

Bonnie JoAnn (Speck) Booker, 72, died of congestive heart failure in the early hours of Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Gade Health Center where she had been a resident for the past five and one-half years.

She was born in Chicago and moved with her parents, the late William and Neola (McAllister) Speck to Darke County’s Gettysburg in the late 1950’s where she was a graduate from Gettysburg high school. Her father was a well known sales manager for the Ex-Cell-O Corporation.

Among the survivors are her husband of nearly 54 years, William W. Booker, son Philip Anthony of Arcanum-Bears Mills Road and William Alan, an over the road driver. A third son, Jerold Andrew, died in April 1967. Also surviving is her sister Phyllis Gillis of Kingman, Arizona plus granddaughters Jessica of Colorado Springs, CO and Christina, Corey and Deborah of Warrenton, OR, plus two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Booker was a member of several local organizations including the Beta Sigma Sorority, the St. Marys Altar Society and the old Greenville Art Guild Players where she met her husband to be. She appeared in several of that group’s stage productions and loved the theater. She had been employed as manager of the former Lord’s Store on S. Broadway as well as an employee at Ethel L. Booker Hats and Gowns. She had also been with the Greenville Fram Corporation.

A memorial service will be held by her immediate family at their convenience. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Chester Leon “ Chet” Steed (May 12, 2012)

Chester Leon “ Chet” Steed, 92 of Fort Loramie, Ohio and formerly of Ansonia, Ohio passed away on Saturday May 12, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 4, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Roy & Esta (Hamilton) Steed. He retired from the Union City Body Company in 1986 where he had worked as a Foreman.

He was a member of Civil Conservation Corp. in Oregon in 1937, Odd Fellows, Treaty City Motorcycle Club, Greenville Eagles, Ansonia Rescue and Fire Departments, he helped start the rescue.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Karthryne (Subler) Steed; sister: Carol Baker.

He is survived by his daughter & son in law: Nancy & Hershel Couch of Fort Loramie, Ohio; Grandchildren: Anne Stammen of Urbana, Ohio, Douglas & Robin Stammen of Sidney, Ohio, Christopher & Fawn Stammen of Ripon, Wisconsin; 9 great grandchildren; brothers & sisters in law: Charles Steed of Rossburg, Ohio, Chalmer & Barbara Steed of Yorbalinda, Ca., Rodney & Jane Steed of Camarillo, Ca; & numerous nieces & nephews.

Cynthia Aslinger age 52, of Richmond, Indiana, was called home to be with the Lord at 6:55 P.M. on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. Cynthia was born November 26, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Richard & Virginia (Gabbard) Martin.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Harold P. Aslinger whom she married September 25, 1976; sons & daughter-in-law, Jeremy Aslinger of Richmond, Indiana, Shane & Angela Aslinger of Richmond, Indiana and Justin Aslinger of Richmond, Indiana; grandchildren, Chase Aslinger and Wyatt Aslinger; step mother, Margaret Martin of Ft. Elmira C. Kindell (May 12, 2012)

Elmira C. Kindell, 95, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, May 12, 2012 at the Brethren Retirement Community from injuries sustained in a fall 7 weeks ago.

She was born April 30, 1917 in Greenville, daughter of the late William and Eva (McGriff) Kindell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey "Peck" Kindell; a sister, Georgianna Fourman; and a niece, Debra Randolph.

Elmira was retired from Dayton Power and Light where she had worked for several years. After retirement she had worked at the Darke County Courthouse, Brateman's Lady's Store, and had volunteered at Wayne Hospital for almost 30 years.

She was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Greenville, the Business and Professional Women's Association, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Ron Kindell, Jeff Kindell, Sondra North, and Teri Preston; and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Franklin Bigham (May 11, 2012)

Mr. Robert Franklin Bigham, 98, passed away peacefully in Melbourne, Florida on May 11, 2012, with his daughters, Marlene Johns and Shirley Eiting, by his side. Born September 9, 1913 in Van Wert, Ohio, Robert spent most of his life in Versailles.

A WWII Veteran, after retiring from the Village of Versailles he continued to enjoy gardening, wood-working, helping his neighbors, and rarely missed his daily walks. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Versailles and the Masonic Temple before moving to Florida in 2005.

Robert was devoted to his wife of 58 years, Eileen Roberta Kueterman, who passed away in 2005. Also preceding him in death were his brothers: Don and Gail Bigham, and sons-in-law, James Roll and Joshua Eiting.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law: Marlene and Marshall Johns of Satellite Beach, Fl. and Shirley Roll Eiting of Melbourne Beach, Fl.; grandchildren: Jennifer Johns Nolan (Pierce), Eric Johns (Sara), Jason Roll (Nikki), Katie Roll Ellis (Nick), Maggie Roll Knapke (Brian) and Jacob Roll: great grandchildren: Colin, Baylee and Parker Roll; Isabel, Nicholas and Hailey Ellis; and Madelyne, Samantha and Matthew Knapke.

Marion F. Saintignon, 81, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, May 12, 2012 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

He was born January 9, 1931 in Greenville, son of the late Bernard Saintignon and Naomi Josephine (Thompson) Reed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Saintignon and a brother, Melvin Saintignon.

Marion was a veteran of the US Army having served in Korea. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, the Eagles and American Legion both in Union City, and the Ft. Recovery VFW.

He is survived by a daughter, Roxanne; brothers, Duane, Donald, Danny, and Bernard "Dennis" Saintignon; sisters, Kathy Mader and Barbara Hiatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Fr. John White officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, OH.

Jeffrey "Jeff" Charles Johnston

Jeffrey Charles Johnston, 44, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2012, in Baltimore, Maryland. Jeff was born in Peoria, Illinois on March 19, 1968 to Dr. Charles William Johnston, of Greenville and Marilyn Garner, of West Carrollton ,Ohio.

Jeff was a 1986 graduate of Greenville High School. He was currently working for Precision Motor Transport Group as a loading supervisor. He was a member of the Greenville Elks Lodge. Jeff loved tinkering with cars, he loved going to car shows and helping other family members with their car repairs. Jeff loved to go to the movie theater. He like to watch movies about super heros and space. His pride and joy were his kids. He loved going to all the activities they were involved in, such as showing horses at the fair, softball games, and the Special Olympics or just watching his children play video games.

In addition to his parents, Jeff is survived by his wife, Sharon (Solis) Johnston whom he married on July 7,1990; three children, Brandon, Ryan, and Megan; a sister and brother in law, Edye and Joe Head, West Carrollton, Ohio.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 6:30 PM at EUM Church, 1451 Sater Street in Greenville with Pastor Eric Fee officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-6 pm at the church. Burial will be on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson. Robert Franklin Cook (Cowboy), 64 of Greenville, went to be with the Lord May 7, 2012. Robert was born in Greenville, Ohio on May 1, 1948. He is the son of Robert Lee Cook and Edith Elizabeth Cook (Wood)

He is survived by his mother; 4 sisters, Pamela (Lee) Cable, Mildred (Don) Langston, Karen (Ron) Besecker, Kathy (Brent) Weidner; one brother, Phillip (Arin) Cook; two daughters, Alissa (Michael) Schillinger, Amanda (Philip) Chiappini; two grandsons, Bennett and Easton Chiappini; special friend, Deborah Mayer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Cook; grandparents, Harley and Jennie (Stump) Cook, Clisba and Margeurite (Broughman) Wood and step grandmother Lela (Edwards) Wood.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving on USS Canopus. He was an avid sports fan, loved gardening, being outdoors and traveling.

Phyllis A. (Horner) Jones (May 7, 2012)

Phyllis A. (Horner) Jones, 70, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away at her residence on May 7, 2012. Phyllis was born on October 25, 1941 to the late Gerald and Agnes (Willey) Horner.

Phyllis was a 1959 graduate of Eaton High School and attended beauty school following high school. She was owner of Pork Chop Charlie’s and the family refers to her as the spark behind the business. She worked as a beautician during her life and was mostly known for her catering. Phyllis was involved in many things in her life such as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout leader, wrestling coach and farmer. She had an extensive collection of Pig memorabilia collecting for over 40 years. Her greatest joy was her family.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of close to 50 years, Charles “Charlie” Jones whom she married on June 16th, 1962; a son, Jerry C. and wife Dawn Jones of Lynn, Indiana; grandchildren, Matthew Jones of Lynn, Indiana and Caleb W. Jones who is a member of the US Navy in Virginia Beach, Virginia and a sister Janice Shock of Eaton, Ohio.

It was Phyllis’s request to not have a public service. Family will hold a service at their convenience.

Donald L. Mendenhall, 86, of Union City, Ohio passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Donald was born on September 12, 1925 in Darke County, Ohio son of the late Howard and Alma(Strader) Mendenhall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three sisters,Evelyn Coblentz, Pauline Birum, Betty Simmons; two brothers, Gerald Mendenhall, Kenneth Mendenhall; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mendenhall.

He was a veteran of the Air Force having served in the World War II. He had worked for Miami Valley Milk Producers (Dairy Maid) in Greenville for 30 years, was a custodian at Mississinawa Valley School for 5 years, and was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laura (Harter) Mendenhall; two daughters, Cheryl (Doug) LeMaster, Lisa (Mark) Spille; twin sons, Craig and Gregg; ten grandchildren, Laura (Ivan) Gregory, Kelly LeMaster, Troy (Ruth) Mendenhall,Chad (Melissa) Anderson, Michelle (Aaron) Missler, Eric Mendenhall, Megan (Aaron) Hollowell, Rachael (Travis) Brunk, Brent Spille, Jennifer Spille; 6 great grandchildren, Trent, Anna, and Gabe Mendenhall, Ava Gregory, Carrina Brunk, and Jackson Craig Hollowell.

Michael Albert Newbauer, 69, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 7:30 AM at his home of a heart attack.

Mike was born on January 13, 1943 at Union City Hospital to Herschel and Eileen Newbauer. His survivors are his wife, Linda, their dog, Erma; his two sister and their husbands, Rose and Larry Dockery and Doris and Ron Rice; his two brothers, Steve and Phil and wife, Fonda; three sisters in law, Eldonna Yount, Virginia Ann Yount, and JoAnne and husband, John Saylor; nieces and nephews and their spouses are, Melvin and Pam Dockery, Becky Black, Wendy and Joe Fields, Whitney and Mike Christman, Zachary and Andrea Newbauer, Curtis and Rhonda Yount, Craig and Hollie Yount, Kevin and Donna Yount, Kerry and Tami Yount, Karen and Scott Fourman, Brant and Sue Yount, Brenda Himebaugh and Michele and Troy Sullens, Lynn Saylor and Kelly Saylor; step nephews, Mark, Darrel and Jeff Grubb; 25 great nieces and nephews; and several great great nieces and nephews.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Eileen Newbauer; his brother in law, Jim Yount and his nephew, Tony Black.

Mike graduated from Mississinawa High School in 1961, was in the US Air Force until 1965 and worked in construction from 1966 until 1999 and then worked part-time for Community Action Partnership in meal delivery. He retired in 2007. In his retirement, he traveled extensively, loved playing euchre, poker and casino gambling. His greatest pastime though was relaxing on their farm and enjoying nature there and his dog. He was a member of the Darke County Fish and Game Club.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Romer’s Banquet Center, 118 East Main Street, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Family will receive friends for a gathering one hour prior to the service at Romer’s. The family requests that all relatives and friends who knew Mike are welcome to attend this Celebration of Mike’s life and enjoy lunch afterwards. Vivian L. (Welmer) Eley (May 6, 2012)

Vivian Lucille Eley, 96, of Greenville, and formerly of Hollansburg, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Vivian was born in Columbus, Indiana on October 19, 1915 to the late Oscar and Zelma (Davis) Welmer.

Vivian was an associate at J.C. Penney in Richmond, Indiana for 50 years. She was one of the oldest and long-time members of Hollansburg Christian Church where she was a custodian for many years. Vivian was a charter member of the Friendly Circle Club, a member of the RSVP Volunteers in Greenville and a member of the Darke County Vita tax program. Vivian lived in Hollansburg for over 53 years. Vivian was a 1933 graduate of Spartanburg High School.

In addition to her parents, Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Eley in 1978; a son, Tom Eley in 2009; a grandson, Todd Eley in 2005; and four sisters, Florence, Kathleen, June and Peggy.

Vivian is survived by two sons, Dennis and Maggie Eley of Greenville and Brian and Sharon Eley of Union, Ohio; six grandchildren, Denise and Ryan Brandenburg of Greenville, Eric and Sarah Eley of New Madison, David and Anne Eley of Marysville, Adam and Amanda Shepherd of Greenville, Craig Eley of West Carrolton and Trisha and Dave Lowder of Albemarle, NC; 12 grandchildren, Alexis McClain, Zach Eley, Maxyn Sharp, Hadyn Sharp, Payton Brandenburg, Aubrey Eley, Joe Eley, Matt Eley, Jenna Shepherd, Laci Shepherd, Gavin Lowder and Jackson Lowder.

James M. Townsend (May 2, 2012)

James M. Townsend, age 78 of Muskegon, Michigan and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:45 A.M. Wednesday May 2, 2012 at Mercy General Hospital Muskegon, Michigan. Jim was born February 16, 1934 in Darke County, Ohio and the son of the late Vernie M. and Fern I. (Dalrymple) Townsend.

Jim was retired from Second National Bank of Greenville where he had been employed for 40 years. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956; he was a member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite-Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, Darke County Shrine Club, Darke County Fish and Game Club, Greenville Elks Lodge and the First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Lori Townsend in 2007 and his brother William Townsend.

Jim is survived by his wife Barbara L. (Hittle) Townsend of Muskegon, MI. They were married December 7, 1952. Also by a daughter Linda (Townsend) Nichols of Muskegon, MI. Sons Steven M. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday May 5, 2012 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Rev. Joe Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. in the funeral home. The Greenville Masonic Lodge will conduct a Masonic Memorial Service followed by the Scottish Rite Ring Service on Friday starting at 7:45 P.M in the funeral home.

Daniel B. “Coop Dog Coop” Cooper (May 2, 2012)

Daniel B. “Coop Dog Coop” Cooper, age 67, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2012 at 10:30 PM at Gade Health Care Center in Greenville, Ohio. He was born on June 14, 1944 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Floyd & Maxine (Boze) Cooper.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Jodi & Jake York of Union City, Ohio, and Cheryl & Dave Lipps of Greenville; sons and daughter in law, Bobby & Susan Braun of Columbus, Ohio, and Doug Braun of Greenville; grandchildren, David Allen Meade, Terry Joe Meade, Angel Orr, Danny B. Lipps, Christy Jones, Nicholas Braun, Dustin York, Donovan York, and Ashly Hartzell; great grandchildren, David Neil, Jarrica, Jordan, Brittany, Kaitlynn Sarah, Casey, Calie, Colby, Arriana, Adreyn, Autumn and Leanna; great great grandsons, Landon and Damian; brother & sister in law, Ralph & Edie Cooper of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters and brother in law, Betty & Lindon Monnin of Russia, Ohio, and Bonnie Cooper of Greenville; special friends, Norma York of Union City, Indiana, and Kathy Hans of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many many racing family members.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Meade; and great grandsons, Cody Jones and Aydyn York.

Daniel worked at Sheller Globe in Union City for 25 years and Kroger’s for 9 years before retiring in 2009. He loved dirt car racing and worked at Eldora Speedway on the civil defense team. He also loved fishing, camping and the Cincinnati Reds.

There will be a service held on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. Fred Bernhard officiating. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery, Ansonia, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2-6 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Julian Elsa Harmon age 73 of Bradford, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2012 at 7:46 AM at her residence. She was born August 4, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of the late Earl & Elsa (Fisher) Seger. She was a respiratory therapist at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Aunt & Uncle: Earl L. & Julia Steinbrugge.

She is survived by her husband: Eldon Harmon of Bradford, Ohio; children & spouses: Tim & Charlotte Harmon of South Carolina, Cindy & Dean Fritz of Bradford, Ohio, Michael & Cindy Harmon of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren: Jaime Kessler, Alexandria Toney, John Bower, Jeff & Madison Harmon, Michelle Proudfoot, Valerie Crowell, Brett Fritz; great grandchildren: Angela Toney, Jonathan Toney, Kaleb Toney, Carter Chinn, Reagan Harmon, Kaiden Crowell, Alexis Proudfoot, Harley Proudfoot; half sister: Linda Seger of Arizona; her beloved pet: Miss Tee.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday May 5, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Gettysburg Cemetery with Pastor Ed Ellis officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to Miami County Hospice.

Nevia Powers (May 2, 2012)

Nevia Powers, age 82, of Greenville, OH, passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2012 at Rest Haven Nursing Home. She was born on April 14, 1930, in Duff, TN, to Bill and Betsy (Marlow) Mazingo.

She was married to Ottis Powers on September 16, 1948, who preceded her is death. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Tina Fay Powers; sisters Willie Joe Isabell, Betty Lou Goins, and Mary Opal Huddleston.

Nevia is survived by her daughters, Angie (James) Barnes of Greenville, OH, and Rhonda (Dewey) Strunk of LeHigh Acres, FL; two granddaughters, Samantha and Charity Barnes of Greenville, OH; one grandson, Benjamin (Terri) Strunk of Fort Myers, FL; one great grandson, Benjamin Strunk III; two step granddaughters, one step grandson, six step great granddaughters, two step great grandsons, two step great great granddaughters; sister in law, Annie Powers of Wilmington, OH.

She was an active member of the Hickory Grove United Baptist Church until she had to go to Rest Haven.

There will be a service held on Saturday May 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Hickory Grove United Baptist Church, 6800 Hogpath Rd., Greenville, Ohio, with Elder Fred Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, 2012 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, as well as from 1-2 PM at church on Saturday.

Nancy E. Graf (April 29, 2012)

NNancy E (Cory). Graf, 48, of Arcanum, passed away Sunday morning from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Grubbs Rex Road in southern Darke County.

She was born September 15, 1963 in Richmond, IN, daughter of Jane (Crothers) Cory of Richmond, IN and the late Joseph R. Cory.

Nancy had worked as a nurse for Hospice of Dayton. She had attended the EUM Church in Greenville.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Greg E. Graf whom she married September 25, 1981; sons, Derick (Ariana) Graf and Benjamin (Emily) Graf both of Ansonia, OH; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Grace, Ian, and Noah; a brother, Joe Cory of Richmond, IN; and a sister, Linda Borgwardt of Eaton.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, OH.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 1-3 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Dayton.
