Alice Emma Kueterman Huffman, 83, passed peacefully at her home on April 8, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones. Alice, a devoted mother and grandmother, was a local historian and genealogist. She will be remembered for her humor and passion for life.
Alice was born on February 26, 1932 in Shelby County, Ohio, to the late Andy and Della (Coons) Kueterman.
Alice graduated from Versailles High School in 1950. She retired from Hobart Corp (PMI) in Troy, Ohio. After retiring, Alice volunteered at Garst Museum in Greenville, Ohio.
Alice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council. She was a Trustee of the Versailles Historical Society and the Worch Memorial Library. She served as President of the Darke County Genealogical Society for fourteen years and was awarded the Toni Seiler Award in 2014 for her service to the organization. Alice was also a member of the Fort Greene Ville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Versailles F.O.E. 2347 Auxiliary, and the Darke County Historical Society.
In addition to her parents, Alice is also preceded in death by her husband, Max Gordon Huffman, who died in 2008. They were married on June 20, 1953. Also preceding her were brothers-in-law Wilbur, Ora, Ernie, and Gerald Huffman, John Smock, and John Luellen, sisters-in-law Agnes Smock, Helen Luellen, Wanda Holt Orne, and Marie Huffman.
She is survived by four children, Dixie and Jim Stephens of Somerset, Kentucky, Roberta and Dan Stahl of Washington Court House, Ohio, Ed Huffman and Hallie Martin of Cedar Grove, Tennessee, and Jim and Melanie Huffman of Versailles; grandchildren Jance and Elaine Stephens, Abby Stahl and Mike Molenda, Beth Stahl and Scott Harris, Catherine Stahl, Mindy and Jason Stebbins, Morgan Huffman, Taylor Huffman and Mitch Westerhide, and Bailey Huffman: great-granddaughters, Gabriella and Caleigh Stebbins; brother and sister-in-law Dick and Rita Kueterman of Russia, Ohio, Brother-in-law Herb Huffman and Elaine Ruth; special friends Diane Huffman and Pat Huffman Kreig, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church 204 East Wood Street Versailles, Ohio with Rev. Robert Akins officiating. Burial will follow in Brock Cemetery in Brock. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, State of the Heart Hospice, or the Versailles Museum.
