Elsie M. Delaplane (November 14, 2017)

Elsie M. Delaplane, age 76 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:20 PM Tuesday November 14, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home Greenville. She was born October 28, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois and the daughter of the late William and Mary Louise (Martin) Malinas.

Elsie was retired having worked in accounting and as an office manager.

She was a 1959 graduate of Greenville High School, a member of the Jan Hagara Collectors Club and the Mid-Ohio Collectors Club, an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed sewing for her 2 sisters and her 8 nieces and nephews whom she was very close with. She also enjoyed traveling to numerous family reunions.

Elsie is survived by her sisters and brother in law Judy (Alan) McElwain of Meadville, PA and Jacque Curran of Greenville, eight nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and arrangements are being handled by Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio.

Beatrice D. Green (November 15, 2017)

Beatrice D. Green, age 88 of Greenville, Ohio and formerly of Union City, Ohio passed away at 7:40 AM Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the Brookdale Senior Living of Troy, Ohio. She was born October 12, 1929 in Union City, Ohio and the daughter of the late William I and Flossie Mae (Cropper) Teeter.

Beatrice was a homemaker and involved in business with her late husband managing the Greenwood Mobile Home Park in Union City, Indiana.

Beatrice attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Green October 7, 2013. Also her son Gary Allen Green May 23, 2011; brothers James, William and Carl Teeter and her sisters Hazel Bradburn and Marjorie Ferrel.

Beatrice is survived by son and daughter in law Kenneth “Pete” and Leanna Green Jr. of Troy, Ohio. Grandchildren Rachel (Bruce) Krauth, Jessica Green, Josh Green, Melanie (Nathan) Hawkey, Matthew (Lindsey) Green, Kyle Green, and Abby Green; brother David Teeter of Greenville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Family Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday November 21, 2017 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Daniel A. Besecker officiating. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery Union City, Indiana.

Kenneth Bolin (November 1st, 2017)

Kenneth Bolin of Greenville, OH, passed away on Wednesday November 1st at the age of 58.

Kenny was born to parents James and Martha (June) Bolin on April 18, 1959 in Greenville, OH where was raised and attended school. After completing school he went to work for the family business, Bolin Taxi Service. Following that, he created Bolin Construction which later became Bolin and Sons Construction and built several houses in the Greenville area. After getting out of the Construction business he purchased Bumpers Bar in Greenville that he owned and operated for several years. Kenny had a passion for pedal cars and had an extensive collection that lined his garage walls. Cars of any kind were always a passion of his, especially his 62 Chevy Impala convertible.

In his spare time he enjoyed entering his cars into completions at car shows and spending time with his family and friends.

Kenny is survived by his sons, Luke (Johnathan) and Zackary (Annie); his siblings, James (Tammy), Kathy (Mike) Wright, Gary (Katie), Christina (Jim) Everhart, and Michael; his mother, Martha (June) Bevans; and his three grandchildren, Henry, Oliver, and Penelope. Kenny is preceded in death by his father James.

There will be a celebration of life gathering on Sunday November 19th at the original Bumpers 136 E. Third Street Greenville Ohio 12-4pm. Friends and family are welcome to attend to remember Kenny. In lieu of flowers we are accepting donations for the Neurological Center in Burkettsville there will be a collection point at the party. Leonidas Berton “Lon” Grosch (November 13, 2017)

Leonidas Berton “Lon” Grosch, age 81, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 1:20 AM at Brookdale of Greenville. He was born on December 1, 1935 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Charles & Inez (Laing) Grosch.

He is survived by his siblings, Merlin (Marilyn) Grosch of Arcanum, Arthur (Wanda) Grosch of St. Louis and Erma Hocker of Greenville; brothers in law and sisters in law, William “Bill” Wolfe of Greenville, Ronnie Joe Wolfe of Union City, Ohio, Terry Wolfe of Greenville and Evelyn Grosch of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Wolfe) Grosch whom he married on April 16, 1955 and brother, Norman Grosch.

Lon was honorably discharge from the United States Army after serving our country for 6 years. For most of his life Lon worked as a farmer but also worked at the Ohio Soft Water Company and Grosch Quality Water in Greenville. He was also a member of the Dulcimer Club in Darke County.

There will be a service held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Ansonia First Church of God, Ansonia, Ohio, with Pastor Derek Specht officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery, Brock, Ohio. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

William Louis McDaniel, age 73, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Wayne HealthCare, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on December 15, 1943 in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Lucien & Charleen (Shaw) McDaniel.

William is survived by his wife of 54 years Sheila (Smith) McDaniel of Greenville whom he married on November 17, 1962; sons and daughter in law, Troy McDaniel and Shannon & Dawn McDaniel both of Greenville; daughter, Dana Baker of Huber Heights, Ohio.

There will be a graveside service held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery, Ft. Jefferson, Ohio, with Pastor Mark Ridgeway officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio

L. Byron Loftis passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, in Greenville, OH.

He was born December 4, 1960 in Houston, TX. He is survived by his parents, Leslie Loftis and Emilie Lenhart; his wife, Debbie, his children, Lyndon (Amanda), Rodney (Kim), Melissa (Bill) O’Shea, Allison (Sean) Hughes, Jessica Loftis; and 12 grandchildren; 2 sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.

The visitation and the funeral service will take place at The Church of God Meeting House, 5065 St. Rt. 49 S., Greenville, OH. Visitation will be November 13 from 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be November 14 at 10:30.

Frances J. Miller (November 6, 2017)

Frances J. Miller, age 93, formerly of Greenville, OH, went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 6, 2017 at 3:10 AM at Warsaw Meadows Care Center in Warsaw, IN. She was born on October 13, 1924 at her grandparents home in Coletown, OH, to the late Carman & Ethel (Puterbaugh) Jefferis.

On June 20, 1948 she married John H. Miller, her husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death on September 21, 2008. Also, preceding her in death, an infant son, Gary, a sister, Joan Hawley, and 2 infant great granddaughters.

Frances lived in the Greenville area all her life until she moved to Warsaw, IN in 2009. She was a member of the Coletown Congregational Christian Church for 81 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Lucinda (Don) Conley of Warsaw, IN, and Judy Ehler of Englewood, OH; grandchildren, Mandy & Mike Laning of Westfield, IN, Sheena Conley of Warsaw, IN, Alyson & Derek Morton of Union, OH, and Ryan & Chelsea Satchell of Denver, CO; 7 great grandchildren; and sisters in law, Ruby Delk & Leora Oda both of Brookville, OH.

There will be a graveside service held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio, with Allen Cox and Terry Hoffman officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30-1:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Barbara A. Brown age 78, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:35 PM on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

Barbara was born November 25, 1938, in Lightsville to the late Lloyd & Naomi (Brewer) Replogle. In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband, Gary C. Brown on October 17, 2017 whom she married December 14, 1956; and brother, Larry Replogle.

Barbara is survived by her children, Gregg & Lynn Brown of Riverside, Tim & Joann Brown of Hollansburg, Rebecca & Kris Smith of Shamong, New Jersey and Sharon Brown of Richmond, Indiana; grandchildren, Jeff Brown of Greenville, Aaron & Jamie Brown of Dayton, Chloe Smith of Westchester, Pennsylvania and Bryant Smith of Shamong, New Jersey; and 2 great grandchildren; and brothers, Kenny Replogle of Houston and Phil Replogle of Pittsboro, Indiana.

Barbara was a homemaker, after raising her children she became a LPN and retired from Heartland of Greenville and worked at Gade Health Care Center in Greenville. She was a member of Ft. Jefferson United Methodist Church.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Doug Baker officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. Kathryn “Katie” Longanecker (October 29, 2017)

Kathryn “Katie” Longanecker, 52, of New Paris, passed away on October 29, 2017.

She was born April 23, 1965 in Dayton, the daughter June Hines of New Paris.

Katie loved her dogs, Gracie, Sable, Lucky and Baby Girl. She was a very hard worker and a truly devoted mother to her son, James. She had a strong love for horses, the ocean, and enjoyed just being outside. She had an adventurous soul, and was fiercely loyal to those she called "friend".

In addition to her mother June, Katie is survived by her son, James Longenecker of Dayton; her brother, Eric Longanecker of Continental; and her step brother, John Hines of New Paris.

Family and Friends may visit on Tuesday, November 7,2017 from 11-1 PM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Robert “Joe” Best (November 1, 2017)

Robert “Joe” Best, 63, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on November 1, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville, after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born December 21, 1953 in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Janice (Collins) Smith of Greenville and the late Robert E. Best.

In addition to his father, Joe is preceded in death by his step father, Gerald “Smitty” Smith and his step brother, Steven Smith.

Joe was a 1973 graduate of Greenville Senior High School. He loved taking casual rides in his dune buggy and cherished all of his yorkies, especially Reba. He was employed by D&D Restoration in Covington, Ohio. Most of all Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he never met a stranger.

Joe is survived by his wife of 25 years, Denise (Pullins) Best of Arcanum, whom he married July 4, 1992; his children, Jason Best of Vandalia, Casey Helmer of Greenville and Natalie Patterson of Arcanum; his grandchildren, Robby Best, Ryan Best, Maddy Best, Trent Best, Liam Helmer and Landon Patterson; his brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie (Jeannie) Best of St. Paris, Ohio; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonita (Tom) Schlechty of New Madison and TK (Jeff) Reigle of Greenville; his step brother, Dan Smith; his uncle; David (Becky) Collins of Greenville; his aunt, Pat Shiverdecker of Greenville; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Greg (Carol) Pullins of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Shelia (Dan) Sieffer of Liberty Township, Ohio and Connie Hite of Evans, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends may visit on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 1-3 PM at the Oliver Floyd Funeral Home.

Stephen Lawson Allread

May 23, 1938 - October 31, 2017

Stephen Allread was born in Lewisburg, OH. He was a resident of New Madison, OH for 49 years and 11 years ago moved to Rincon, GA to be close and enjoy his sons and grandchildren. He was a loving husband and great father and grandfather.

He married Sharon Kay Schlosser on June 29, 1957 and she survives. Also surviving are: two sons and two daughters-in-law, Eric and Jill Allread, Marc and Kelly Allread; two sisters: Anna Allread and Altha Sullenbarger; and Grandchildren, Wendy Sanches, Benjamin Allread, Abigail Allread, Nathan Allread, and Lawson Allread; Great grandchildren, Oliver Sanches and Xander Sanches; and close friends Sherry Tracy, Anastasia Koogle, and Leslea Hipp.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Verona and Norman Allread.

He will be greatly missed.

Richard "Dick" Allen LaFuze (October 26, 2017)

Richard "Dick" Allen LaFuze, 59, of Haines City, Florida, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Heart of Florida Hospital in Haines City, Florida. He was born July 28, 1958 in Greenville, a son of the late Charles LaFuze and Lorene (Cook) Vasquez.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Rich served our country honorably for 23 years. He had received many awards for his excellent service in the Air Force. The most prestigious award was being named the Airman of the Year for outstanding achievements throughout the entire Air Force. Rich loved teaching others and being a mentor and helping make other people's lives better. He had several small businesses throughout his life. Most of all, Rich loved to be with his wife, daughter and son-in-law and especially his dog, Jorgie.

Rich is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cheryl " Pinky" (Scheiding) LaFuze of Haines City, Florida, whom he married August 7, 1976; his daughter and son-in-law, Chasity (Larry) Graves, of Fort Walton Beach; Florida; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary (Amy) LaFuze of Winchester, Indiana, and John (Carey) LaFuze of Florida; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan Mangen of Alabama and Shirley (Greg) Wampler of Ansonia; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be at a later date in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marian C. Brown (October 30, 2017)

Marian C. Brown, age 82 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 2:17 AM Monday 30 October 2017 at State of the Heart Care - Darke County. Marian was born 28 January 1935 in Castine, Darke County, Ohio, the daughter of Christian and Ruth (Schubert) Crawford.

Marian is survived by her son Craig Brown and daughter in law Cyndy (Albright) Brown of Manchester, MI; her daughter Faith (Brown) Webster and son in law Tom Webster of Shawano, WI; four grandchildren Christopher Brown (Emma Houle), Corey (Shannon) Brown, Bethany (Gero) Parmentier and Evan (Lyndsey) Webster; and two great grandchildren Kylie and Emerson Brown (children of Corey and Shannon).

In addition to her husband, Ned A Brown, and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Caroline Jane, Bea, and Connie.

Marian was a lifelong member of the Darke County community. She grew up in Castine and graduated valedictorian of the Arcanum Class of 1953. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Wittenburg University and taught elementary school students for 33 years. She was an active member of the Church of the Brethren and the First United Methodist Church in Castine and Greenville. She donated over twenty gallons of blood at the community blood center. During retirement she often volunteered at the Brethren Retirement Community, church activities, and various retired teachers’ associations and events.

Marian and Ned were married for 57 years and enjoyed many adventures to Rawah Ranch in the Colorado Rockies. Their fondest vacation memories include the rides into the mountains and meadows along the Laramie River below the Medicine Bow Mountain Range. She loved to play games, especially with the younger generations.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday 6 November 2017 in the First United Methodist Church, 202 West Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Terry Cavanaugh officiating. Marian’s children and their spouses will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be given to the Darke County State of the Heart Care or your local Hospice organization.

Laverne “Al” Hofacker (October 29, 2017)

Laverne “Al” Hofacker age 67, of Hollansburg passed away at 2:18 AM on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Al was born April 30, 1950, in Braffetsville to the late Albert Leon & Treva (Irvine) Hofacker.

Al is survived by his wife, Peggy Barge whom he married May 1, 2015; children, Patricia & Brett Clark of Gettysburg, Alan & Martha Hofacker of Winchester, Indiana and Katy Gibboney of Greenville; step-children, Dennis Simons III of Hollansburg and Dalton Barge of Hollansburg; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brother, David Hofacker of Greenville; and sister, Christine & Thomas Pleiman of Greenville.

Al retired from Union City Body Co. in Union City, Indiana and later worked security at Fram Corporation in Greenville. Al was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 96 in New Madison for 4 years. He was an active member in AA for 22 years and inspired many to keep fighting the good fight.

A celebration of Al’s life will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Pam Shuttleworth officiating. Clyde Benjamin “Ben” Barker (October 29, 2017)

Clyde Benjamin “Ben” Barker, 79, of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born May 11, 1938 in Gnadenhutten, Ohio, the son of the late Ronald and Virginia (Tufford) Barker.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebekah Barker; his brothers, Ronald Barker, Jr., Robert Barker, and Raymond Barker; his sisters, Phyllis Shearer and Sandy Gallis.

Ben proudly served our country in the U.S Army. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant with a specialty in artillery defense. He was the owner of B & B Painting, was a member of the VFW in Greenville and the Salvation Army of Coshocton, Ohio. Ben was a volunteer firefighter for the villages of Phillipsburg, Verona, and Gettysburg Rural Fire Department. He was also an EMT for Gettysburg Rescue, and was one of the contributing members in starting the Rescue Squad. Most importantly he was a devoted husband, dad, brother, papaw, and great papaw.

Ben is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Primrose-Barker of Greenville, whom he married March 25, 1965; his daughter and son-in-law, April (Darrell) Fetters of Greenville; his grandchildren, Chelsea (Steven) Fields of Gettysburg, Mick (Chelsea) Denlinger of New Lebanon, Caleb Fetters of Greenville, Marcus (Sana) Denlinger of Gettysburg, and Mason Fetters of Greenville; his great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Hunter Denlinger, Levi and Gavin Fields and Savannah and Landen Denlinger; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Sue) Barker, Ralph (Patty) Barker, Jerry (Jolene) Barker, and Bill Barker all of Coshocton; his sisters and brother-in-law, Barb Cooper of Coshocton, and Marilyn (Tony) Bender of Zanesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sheyanna Marie Smith age 21, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 10:01 PM on Friday, October 20, 2017, at her residence. Sheyanna was born November 5, 1995, in Greenville to Heather Nicole (Smith) Trent of Greenville and David R. Trent of Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, Sheyanna is also survived by her brothers, Austin Trent of Kentucky and Justin Ryan of Kentucky; sisters, Sheila Phillips of Kentucky, Jasmine Trent of Greenville, Stephanie Trent of Greenville and Macie Berry of Greenville; and maternal grandfather, Harvey Smith of Greenville.

Sheyanna was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Hayward Roger Trent; and maternal grandmother, Bonnie L. Smith.

William “Billy” L. Brown (October 26, 2017)

William “Billy” L. Brown, 70, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on October 26, 2017 at Union City Care Center.

He was born June 3, 1947 in Greenville, Ohio, the son of the late Lester Lowell Brown and Marjorie (Smith) McLear.

Billy served our country honorably in the U.S Army and he enjoyed playing the accordion for his family.

Billy is survived by his uncle, Larry Varvel of Union City, Indiana; aunt, Patty Louck of Winchester, Indiana; cousins, Teresa Varvel of Union City, Indiana, Larry Varvel Jr. of Union City, Ohio, Faith (William) Garland of New Weston, Ohio, Wanda McNew of Richmond, Indiana, and Diana (Frank Burkey) Dalhstrom of Temecula, California.

Family and Friends may visit on Monday, October 30, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Hershel Fee officiating. Burial will follow in Holsapple Cemetery with full military graveside honors conducted by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard.

Michael Curtis Anderson (October 24, 2017)

Michael Curtis Anderson, age 67, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 5:23 PM at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1950 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Robert & Edwina (Ullery) Anderson.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Debra (Mann) Anderson whom he married on February 16, 1979; daughter, Joy Molinari of Mason, Ohio; son and daughter in law, Bryan (Elizabeth) Faller of Dublin, Ohio; grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas and Ava Molinari and Anderson, Kennedy and Brady Faller; brother and sister in law, Jim & Jeannie Anderson of Wayne Lakes, Ohio; aunt, Beth (Don) Maxwell of Columbus, Ohio; father in law, Vernon Eichenauer of Ft. Recovery, Ohio; brothers in law and sisters in law, Donna & Jr. Bozarth of Ft. Recovery, Ohio, and Don & Elaine Eichenauer of Coldwater, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Michael was preceded in death by his mother in law, Iris Jean Eichenauer.

Michael was an electrician and loved playing golf, fishing and hunting mushrooms. Mike will be very missed by his family and friends as he was a very kind soul and a good man.

There will be a service held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Tracy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery, Greenville, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 2-5 PM at the funeral home.
