John L. Durr, 88, of Greenville, passed away early Friday morning, July 1, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville.
He was born April 21, 1923 in Darke County, son of the late Roy C. and Wilma B. (Ashman) Durr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; and a brother, Thomas Durr.
John was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps having served in WWII where he was an ex prisoner of war and had received the Purple Heart. He was retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he had worked for 35 years as a statistician. He was a member of the D.A.V., American Legion and V.F.W.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary Frances (Coppess) Spencer-Durr; two daughters, Linda L. Sheline, and Dianna L. Durr; a step daughter, Linda O'Grady; 2 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren.
A memorial service with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 11 a.m on Friday, July 8 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Chaplain Sam Hoeflich officiating. Private burial will take place in the Nashville Cemetery near West Milton.
The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to services at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Heartland Hospice.
