Maxine Louise (Higgs) Emrick (January 14, 2013)

Maxine Louise (Higgs) Emrick, 97, of New Madison, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 14, 2013. Maxine was born on August 4, 1915 in West Manchester to the late Jesse and Maggie Marie (McClure) Higgs.

Maxine was a homemaker duringl her life and a 1933 graduate of the Jefferson Township High School. Maxine and Lowell were members of The Grange in New Madison, they served as officers, and helped build the Community Center in New Madison. Maxine was a member of the New Madison EUB Church and Abbottsville United Methodist. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and doing ceramics. She was a very good mother and mother-in-law who enjoyed spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Emrick, who passed away in April of 1996; and two brothers, George Higgs and Gilbert Higgs.

Maxine is survived by a daughter, Betty June and Roger Whittaker of Arcanum; two granddaughters, Annette and Doug Pepple of Greenville and Karen Whittaker and boyfriend, William Walter of Dayton; two grandsons, Jerry and Susan Whittaker of Greenville and Larry and Stephanie Whittaker of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren, Nathan Pepple of Arcanum, David Pepple of Greenville, Maggie Pepple of Ball State University and Elizabeth Whittaker of Douglasville, Georgia; two step, great-grandchildren, Bill Floyd and fiancé, Tammy Weyant and daughter Sarah of Greenville, and Angela Floyd of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, Doris Eichhorn of Richardson, Texas; a sister-in-law, Helen Higgs of Richmond, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 4-7 PM at Braund Funeral Home in New Madison. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00 PM also at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Cloyd being asked to officiate.
