Mark J. McGee, 75, of Springfield, passed away Friday afternoon, July 26, 2013, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born January 4, 1938 in Union City, IN, son of the late David B. and Justine L. (DeFord) McGee.
Mark was retired from the US Navy as a Master Chief Hospital Corpsman after 21 years of service. A Beekeeper for 30 years, he had created McGee's Bees, and had also taught beekeeping. He had obtained the Eagle Scout Badge for the Boy Scouts, was a naturalist, and had taught photography classes at Edison State and at an extension branch of Wright State University.
He was a Grill Master who loved cooking and baking for family and friends. An avid reader, Mark was a highly creative individual who loved teaching others.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean F. (Flynn) McGee, whom he married February 21, 1976 in Naples, Italy; a daughter, Sarah E. McGee-Gentry and husband Alan Gentry of Springfield; a brother, Thomas P. McGee of Ansonia, OH; special friends, Sarah J. Couch, and Chris Brewer and family all of Springfield; his devoted dogs, Betty, Daisy, and Olive Jo; daughters, Erin McGee and Laura Gonzales; grandchildren, Garrett Sowers, Samuel Coppock, Sylvia Gonzales, and Sophia Gonzales.
Private services with full military honors by the Greenville veterans Honor Guard will take place at a later date at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home , 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH. Burial will follow in the Beamsville Cemetery, Beamsville, OH.
There will be no visitation.
