Asazalia M. Curry (November 29, 2013)

Asazalia M. Curry, 70 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday November 29, 2013 at 3:48 AM at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center. She was born August 15, 1943 in Winchester, Indiana the daughter of the late Clarence E. & Eva M. (Campbell) Curry. She worked for 11 years at McKesson Warehouse in Fairfield, Ohio and various other places in the area.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ronald Curry, & Clayton Curry.

She is survived by her children: Asazalia M. Forney & special friend Mike Bryant of Greenville, Norman R. & Marcia Arnold of Greenville, Nathaniel E. Arnold & special friend Melanie Thorn of Greenville; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother: Earl E. Curry of Greenville; sisters in law: Bette Curry of Greenville, & Shirley Curry of Greenville; & numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Wednesday December 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Mike Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, Indiana. Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at the funeral home. Henry W. Schafer (November 26, 2013)

Henry W. Schafer, 86, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 2013 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born March 26, 1927 in Darke County, son of the late Gerald S. and Mabel G. (Michael) Schafer.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, Henry had spent most of his life farming. After retirement he worked as a carry out for Eikenberry's IGA. He was a member of the Greenville Missionary Church, the Moose, Eagles, and American Legion all in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, P. Clarabelle (Bixler) Schafer, whom he married October 25, 1945; a daughter, Georgianna (Marvin) Crawford of Greenville; a son, Harold (Judy) Schafer of Greenville; grandchildren, Laura Bryson, Paullette Kennedy, Kathy Hatch, and Bradley Hatch; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Schafer of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will at 11:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Gary Oser officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Shirley L. Midlam age 59, of Sidney, Ohio and formerly of Ansonia, Ohio passed away at 7:20 A.M. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at her residence. Shirley was born May 9, 1954 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Lawrence E. & Venus (Hoy) Deal.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Ronald L. “Slug” Midlam whom she married May 8, 1994; daughters & sons-in-law, Chantel & John Steele of Sidney, Ohio, Billie Jo Jones of St. Albans, West Virginia, Christina Midlam & fiancĂ©, Billy Mason of Anderson, Alabama, Samantha Midlam & Cory Barber of Greenville, Ohio and Jessica & Justin Weedman of Concord, North Carolina; grandchildren, Alex Steele, Josh Steele, Justin Steele, Cassie Steele, Brittani Vanover, Jackie McIntosh, Sebastian McIntosh, Angel McIntosh, Laswan McIntosh, Emmra McIntosh, Abby Barber, Lyllee Barber, Aidan Barber, Hunter Weedman and Natalie Weedman; brother, Paul Deal Sr. of Sidney, Ohio; sisters & brother-in-law, Sue & Mike Elliot of Sidney, Ohio and Delores Blankenship of Sidney, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Barbara Deal of Zaleski, Ohio and JoAnn Deal of Union City, Ohio; brother-in-law, Garry Fenton of Saratoga, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Annabel Lee Netzley (November 25, 2013)

Annabel Lee Netzley, age 88, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center - Rose Hill in Berryville, Virginia. She was born on December 28, 1924 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Earl & Ellanora (Manzey) Boolman.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sharon & Meril Turnbeaugh of Round Hill, Virginia; granddaughter Tonia Chagnon of Sterling, Virginia; great grandsons, Eric and Ben Chagnon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Norbert Netzley; sisters, Orva Boolman, Edna Morgan and Ema Ida Lawson; brother Harry Boolman; nephews, Donald Morgan and William Boolman.

Annabel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon. She loved sewing, crocheting and according to her great grandson she made the best blankets.

There will be a service held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will follow in the Gettysburg Cemetery, Gettysburg, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

Cora Elizabeth Oswalt (November 25, 2013)

Cora Elizabeth Oswalt, 93, of New Weston, OH, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, OH.

She was born November 19, 1920, in Darke County, Ohio, daughter of the late Ora Earl and Cora (Locke) Pearson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph L. Oswalt on February 26, 2000; daughter, Karen Reed; twin grandsons, Jeremy and Jason Oswalt; brothers, Harry Pearson, Bob Pearson;and a sister, Frances Jones.

Cora was a homemaker that loved to play cards, gardening and reading. A devoted Cincinnati Reds fan she adored to be around her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Regina "Jean" (Jack) Sullenbarger of New Paris, James (Margaret) Oswalt of New Weston, Gary (Christina) Oswalt of Dayton, Walter (Cindy) Oswalt of Coldwater; son-in-law, Robert Reed of Bradford; 10 grandchildren, David (Melissa ) Sullenbarger, Diane (Steve) McNew, Sherry (Ed) Chenowith, Melanie (Mike) Payne, Todd (Beverly) Oswalt, Chris (Amy) Oswalt, Eric Bowersock, Wendy (Russell) Marcum, Kimberly (Eric) Stammen, Kyle (Rachel) Oswalt; 13 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, November 30, at Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Joe Soley officiating. Burial will follow at Old Teegarden Cemetery near Ansonia.

Webb J. Devor (November 24, 2013)

Webb J. Devor, 83, of Greenville, passed away late Sunday evening, November 24, 2013 at the Kettering Medical Center in Dayton.

He was born March 30, 1930, in Greenville, son of the late Webb E. and Justina F. (Iddings) Devor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (Tedder) Devor on April 19, 2009; brothers, Robert, Norman, James, and Jack Devor; and sisters, Martha Cole and Deloris Pepple.

A veteran of the US Army, Webb had served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Conrail Railroad. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Shriners, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Darke County Fish and Game Club and the Darke County Democratic Party.

He is survived by his daughter, Annette Blankenship; grandchildren, Bethaleen J. (Blankenship) Hawes, and Katrina N. Blankenship; great grandchildren, Alana, Lilliana, and Elena Jean Blankenship; son-in-law, Mickel Blankenship; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services with full military honors by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 2 PM. Wednesday, November 27, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 PM till 2 PM. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Shriner's Children's Hospital.

Leonard James Brock Sr. (November 22, 2013)

Leonard James Brock Sr., age 76, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:00 PM at Wayne HealthCare ER. He was born on September 25, 1937 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Leroy “Jim” & Oretha (McMillian) Brock.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carolyn (Gibson) Brock of Greenville; children and their spouses, James L. Brock of Greenville; Julie (Sam) Sponaugle of Bradford, Joy (Mike) Tedore of Greenville, John Brock of Greenville, Lenny Brock of Greenville and Jill (Jimmy) McAlpin of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Redman and Diane Kiser; brother Leroy Brock; as well as 2 grandchildren.

Leonard was a member of the First Assembly of God. He was an avid coon hunter and extremely proud of his Indiana Heritage.

There will be a service held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Dale Boeger officiating. Burial will follow. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Scott Daniel Dircksen (November 23, 2013)

Scott Daniel Dircksen, age 20, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 due to an automobile accident. He was born on March 16, 1993 to Richard Joseph Dircksen and Connie May (Waters) Dircksen both of Versailles, Ohio.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his siblings, Daniel (Angela) Cochrell of Troy, Richard Jerry (Tracy) Dircksen of Lakeview, Ohio, Angie Morris of Tennessee and Anita Swartz of Troy.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Henry & Marie Dircksen; maternal grandparents William Russell & Helen Waters as well as aunts and uncles.

Scott was a 2012 graduate of Troy High School and was pursuing to become a landscaper. He loved John Deere Tractors and fishing.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, Ohio, with a funeral service immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio.

Terri L.(Wisener) Cummins (November 18, 2013)

Terri L.(Wisener) Cummins, 57, of New Paris, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2013 at her residence. Terri was born on April 8, 1956 in Van Wert, Ohio to Patricia Ann (Bayles) Wisener and the late Lester Wisener, Jr.

Terri was a 1975 graduate of Van Wert High School. She was a member of the Twin Valley Baptist Church in West Alexandria. Terri enjoyed taking walks and crocheting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Terri is preceded in death by a brother, Lester Lewis Wisner.

Terri is survived by her husband, Richard "Orange" Cummins of New Paris; four daughters and sons in law, Jennifer Cummins of New Paris, Nikki and husband, Jesse Johnson of Ravenna, Kelly and husband, Stephen Klosterman of Miamisburg, and Jodi Cummins of New Paris; five grandchildren, Justin and Alexis Johnson, Mekenzie Miller, Adler Klosterman, and Marie Napier; a brother, Gene Wisener of Ohio City; a sister and brother in law, Kimberly and Mike Lare of Convoy.

William C. Cook (November 19, 2013)

William C. Cook, 86 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday November 19, 2013 at 3:15 AM at Rest haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born August 11, 1927 in Greenville, Ohio the son of the late Arthur R. & Alice (Strobel) Cook.

Bill served in the Army stationed in Alaska. When he returned from service, her worked for Ullerys’ Dairy and Dairy Maid. He also worked for the Greenville City Schools for 5 years retiring in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Teresa (Grilliot) Oswalt of Greenville whom he married on September 9, 1977; children and their spouses, Michael (Karen) Oswalt of Centerville, Ohio, Steven (Amber) Oswalt of Fletcher, Ohio, Fred (Suzanne) Oswalt of Delaware, Ohio, Joe (Bethany) Oswalt of Neosho, Missouri, John (Alvita) Oswalt of Hampshire, Tennessee, Buffy (Stephen) Lavy of Arcanum, Ohio, and Zachary (Jeff) Oswalt of Fircrest, Washington; 23 grandchildren; brother Merlin Oswalt of Heber Springs, Arkansas; sister and brother in law, Janice (Ned) Kress of Huber Heights, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Donovan was a welder and retired from AGCO New Idea as a general foreman. He also worked at Scioto Services in Troy and was the owner and operator of Brown Sweet Shop in Versailles. For over 20 years Donovan was a Christian educator for the Tabernacle Christian School and Emmaus Learning Center. He was a member of the Emmaus New Testament Church and was a board member for the Darke County Pregnancy Help Center.

There will be a service held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor Jim Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in the Newcomer Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 3-8 PM at the funeral home.

Raymond “Ray” LaFuze, 70, of Versailles, passed away late Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Wayne Healthcare Center in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born October 7, 1943 in Darke County, Ohio, son of the late Ben Preston and Myrtle Mae (Stroub) LaFuze. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Von “Rusty” LaFuze; his sisters, Joan LaFuze and Christine Lee.

He is survived by his brothers, Fred Stanley LaFuze of Muncie, IN and Charles LaFuze of Winchester, IN; sisters, Carolyn (Keith) Hazelrigg of Houston, TX, Phyllis Eckard of Triangle, VA, Joyce Rutter of Versailles, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, November 21 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Beamsville Cemetery, in Beamsville.

Dorothy Jean Shroyer, age 85, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 5:42 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on November 20, 1927 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Robert R. & Mildred E. (Deeter) Klipstine.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Judy Voiles of Greenville, Janie & Butch Clark of Bradford, Joann & Bob Nelson of Greenville and Janet & Jim Hunt of Greenville; son and daughter in law, Mike & Sue Shroyer of Greenville; grandchildren: Matt and Melissa Voiles, Mandy & Chad Garrett, Rob & Joan Clark, Angie & Matt Kolb, Mark & Dusti Toman, Jason Toman, Jamie Looker, Amy and Justin Schoen, Julie and Kevin Stringer, Heather Hunt, Ashley Beatty, Melissa Shroyer, Nicki and Jared Glilespie and Danielle Larson; 26 great grandchildren; sisters in law and brothers in law, Connie and Robert Hill of Englewood, Ohio, Larry Shaw of Fairview Heights, Ohio, Evelyn Klipstine of Greenville and Nancy Klipstine of West Milton, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenville. She loved gardening and working with flowers, playing the organ and was an avid Reds fan.

Robert G. Gump (November 15, 2013)

Robert G. Gump, 76, of Greenville, passed away early Friday morning, November 15, 2013, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born December 5, 1936 in Versailles, son of the late Charles and Ermal (Arnett) Gump.

Bob was a veteran of the US Navy, and retired from Carl Subler Trucking where he was a dispatcher and terminal manager . He was a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Lila Lee and brother Charles Gump, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Keaser) Gump, whom he married September 5, 1958; sons, Randy (Mary Ann) Gump of Versailles and Rick (Lynne) Gump of Greenville; a daughter, Kim Gump of Greenville; sister, Joan Watren of Florida, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services with full military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 20, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles.

Benjamin "Ben" W. Wages (November 13, 2013)

Benjamin "Ben" W. Wages, 49, passed away from complications resulting from an extended illness on November 13, 2013 at Grandview Hospital in Dayton. Ben was born on April 18, 1964 in Greenville, Ohio to Coleman and Yvonne (Timmons) Wages.

Ben was a software engineer for WorkflowOne. He had a Bachelors of Computer Science Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He was a 1982 graduate of Tri Village Schools. Ben enjoyed watching The Ohio State University Buckeyes football, Cincinnati Bengals football and Cincinnati Reds baseball with his dad as well as other sports teams. Ben was gifted with a beautiful tenor singing voice and was a talented drummer.

Ben is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Treva Timmons and Waldon and Viney Wages.

In addition to his parents, Ben is survived by his wife, Lisa (Allen) Wages whom he married on July 15, 2006; step daughter, Christina Bayley; a brother, Doug and wife Sue Wages; a sister, Angela and husband George Hunt as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Kathleen L. Aukerman (November 13, 2013)

Kathleen L. Aukerman age 90, resident of Pitsburg, Ohio died at 4:36 A.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Sterling House of Greenville.

Kathleen was born March 1, 1923, in Bradford, to the late Cleo Donald & Helen (Sease) Selby. She was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1941.
Kathleen married Harold J. Aukerman, June 1, 1941, they farmed side by side for many years. Harold preceded her in death in 2004.

Kathleen was a talented seamstress, an avid gardener, a superb baker of all things wonderful, and a true naturalist at heart. She was a quiet woman who was most at ease with her immediate family.

She was a member of the Painter Creek Church of the Brethren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell Selby; a twin sister, Karolyn Keller; a granddaughter, Robin Blumenstock; a grandson, Todd Blumenstock; and sons-in-law, George McLain and Kenneth Shanks. She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Shanks of Pitsburg, Cynthia and her husband, Bill Locke of Covington and Claudia McLain of Indianapolis; three sisters, Idonna Fashner of Bradford, Elaine and her husband, George Hackett of Celina and Judith and her husband, Charles Bunnell of Florida; brother, Donald Selby of Florida; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Ivan) Aukerman of Greenville and Phyllis (Melvin) Aukerman of Greenville.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomers Cemetery in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Alva D. Aukerman (November 11, 2013)

Alva D. Aukerman age 92, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 9:40 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Alva was born March 31, 1921 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Arthur & Susie (Landis) Aukerman.

Alva is survived by his wife, Pauline (Landis) Aukerman whom he married April 4, 1942; son & daughter-in-law, David & Pam Aukerman of Greenville, Ohio; daughter & son-in-law, Treva & Alan Dohner of Troy, Ohio; grandchildren, Sherri & Mike Painter of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Alicia & Jeff Lehman of Hilliard, Ohio, Eric & Jodi Aukerman of Arcanum, Ohio and Dorinda Dohner of Bloomington, Indiana; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, Alva is also preceded in death by a sister, Olive Fourman; brother, Ralph Aukerman; and a foster brother, Clifford Westfall.

Alva retired in 1986 from Hobart Brothers in Troy, Ohio. Alva also farmed in Franklin Township, Darke County where he raised potatoes for 25 years. Alva was the longest attending member of Painter Creek Church of the Brethren. He served the church as deacon; Sunday school teacher; board chairman; financial director and held many other offices. Alva was a former ranger at Beechwood Golf Course in Arcanum. Alva played the saxophone in the Darke County Municipal Band.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow in Newcomers Cemetery in Darke County. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Louanna J. Fenstermaker age 80, of Bradford, went to be with the Lord at 11:30 P.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. Louanna was born May 4, 1933 in Union City, Ohio to the late Russell & Edith (Byram) Ulsh.

Louanna is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Claude & Marilyn Fenstermaker of Bradford, Craig & Tamai Fenstermaker of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Kent & Cindy Fenstermaker of Bradford and Kyle & Jody Fenstermaker of Pembroke, Kentucky; grandchildren, Charity & Rob Hutt, Michael & Katie Fenstermaker, Addie & Danny Eversmyer, Andrew & Kara Fenstermaker, Bryan & JoAnna Fenstermaker, Jennifer & Chris Price, Jonathan Fenstermaker & fiancée, Ashley Richards, Joshua Fenstermaker and Karli Fenstermaker; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Louanna is also preceded in death by her husband, Doyle E. Fenstermaker on August 26, 1984 whom she married November 3, 1951; brothers, Robert and Tom Ulsh; and sisters, Mary Byers and Norma Anthony.

Louanna was a 1951 graduate of Arcanum High School. Louanna was a homemaker. She was a member of Greenville Baptist Temple. Louanna enjoyed spending her life on the farm and being a farm wife. She enjoyed baking pies and cookies. Louanna loved traveling with her family and doing family activities. She touched a lot of peoples lives that she never met. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the people that knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Daniel Berdine officiating. Victor John Lavy (November 10, 2013)

Victor John Lavy, 93, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Victor was born on September 21, 1920 in Darke County to the late Joseph and Flossie (Stoner) Lavy.

Victor retired in 1986 from Hobart Brothers in Troy from the Purchasing Department. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting and traveling. Victor also enjoyed his cars. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Victor is preceded in death by a sister, Velma Lavy; and a daughter, Marilyn Lavy Sturtevant.

Victor is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris (Welbaum) Lavy of Greenville; three sons, Merrill and Connie Lavy of Arcanum, Don and Janet Lavy of Pleasant Hill and Lowell and Rena Lavy of Versailles; a daughter, Geneva and Roy Yoder of Bradford; a son-in-law, Steve and Linda Sturtevant of Beaver City, Nebraska; grandchildren, Duane Lavy, Stephen Yoder, Wayne Lavy, Kimberly Marshall, Paul Lavy, Kevin Lavy, Jonathan Yoder, Jason Sturtevant, Stephen Lavy, Stephanie Kennedy, Kenny Lavy, Beth Dickinson, Amy Goins, Regina Baker, Danette Haddix, Brent Lavy, Susanna Sturtevant and Allyson Brinkman; 33 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and a brother, Glen and Lola Lavy of Litchfield, Ohio.

Ottis L. Gilmore (November 11, 2013)

Ottis L. Gilmore age 88 of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 2:40 A.M. Monday November 11, 2013 in the Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Ottis was born March 3, 1925 in Versailles, Ohio and the son of the late Andrew “Doc” and Mary M. (Schlechty) Gilmore.

Ottis had farmed his entire life and was a Veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Army from August 1943 until November of 1945. Ottis was a member of the Greenville American Legion, Greenville V.F.W., Darke County Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans where he was Past Commander and held the position as Adjutant for 60 years, Purple Heart Chapter #31 of Dayton, Ohio and the Darke County Farm Bureau.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Velma L. (Lewis) Gilmore October 6, 2013. They were married October 14, 1956. Also his granddaughter Jessica Anne Gilmore in 1985.

Ottis is survived by his son Mark Gilmore of Versailles; grandchildren Jill Mann, Gregory Gilmore and Abby Gilmore, great granddaughter Reagan Lilly Mann and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday November 14, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow in the Brock Cemetery Darke County, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

The Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Honors on Thursday morning in the Funeral Home.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Robert L. Pepple on April 17, 2004 whom she married August 14, 1943; son: Rick A. Pepple in March 2010; brothers: Robert, Norman, James, & Jack Devor; sister: Martha L. Cole.

Kevin Phillip Beavers age 57, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 2:37 P.M. on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at his residence. Kevin was born September 22, 1956 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Bernard Glenn & Margaret May (Hutchinson) Beavers.

Kevin served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the EUM Church in Greenville.

Ronald James Dirksen age 64, of New Weston, Ohio passed away at 11:10 A.M. on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at his residence. Ronald was born January 30, 1949 in Mercer County, Ohio to the late Gregory & Elizabeth (Wilkinson) Dirksen.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. (Treon) Dirksen whom he married April 4, 1970; daughters & son-in-law, Angela & Dan Brown of Ansonia and Christine Kruckeberg & fiancé, Kevin Grilliot of Willowdell; grandchildren, Tosha, Zachary, Megan, Cody, McKinzie, Kaia and Riley; great-grandchildren, Kensley and Zailey; brothers & sisters-in-law, Clete Dirksen of New Weston, David & Rosemary Dirksen of Madison, Wisconsin, John & Shirley of Portersville, Mississippi and Michael & Sherry Dirksen of Union City, Indiana; sister, Kathleen Gasson of Versailles; sisters-in-law, Anita Dirksen of Rossburg and Kathy & Randy Schulze of Hawaii; best bud, Carly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ronald is also preceded in death by his brothers, William and Ben Dirksen; and twin sisters, Mary Margret & Mary Ann Dirksen in infancy.

Ronald is a retired mechanic and former owner of Ron’s Lawn Mower Repair. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star; and Poor Farmers Tractor Pulling Association. Ron was an avid woodworker and Cleveland Browns fan. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, tractor pulling, and NASCAR racing. Ron sponsored a youth league baseball team in Ansonia for many years and was a supporter of the Relay for Life Team Vision of Hope.

A Memorial Mass of Cremation will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Fr. David Zink celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in North Star. Tony K. Miller age 60, of Louisville, Kentucky and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:12 A.M. on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Tony was born April 22, 1953 in Greenville, Ohio to the late Keith E. & Edris Arlene (Beasley) Miller.

Tony is survived by a son, David of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Christy of Louisville, Kentucky; and grandchildren, Addie, Sophie and Samuel.

Tony retired from Humana Insurance Company in Louisville, Kentucky where he was a data analyst. Tony was a 1971 graduate of Greenville High School and a graduate of the University of Cincinnati.

Keith E. Weimer (November 6, 2013)

Keith E. Weimer, 75, of Hollansburg, Ohio passed away on November 6, 2013 at the Brethrens Retirement Community. Keith was born on October 21, 1938 in Richmond, Indiana to the late Paul and Lois (Pentecost) Weimer.

Keith worked in the maintenance department for Brethren Retirement Community. He was a 1956 graduate of Westmont High School in Hollansburg. Keith loved nature and being in the woods. He worked as a farmer for most of his life and loved woodworking. Keith volunteered as a counselor at Woodland Altars, for the Church of the Brethren disaster ministries and was a member of the Beech Grove Church of the Brethren serving as a Deacon for over 30 years. He was a very helpful person, a good neighbor and a great friend.

In addition to his parents, Keith is preceded in death by a son, Brian Weimer and a grandson, Calvin Weimer.

Keith is survived by his wife Nancy (Diehl) Weimer whom he married on July 9, 1961; two daughters, Lauree and husband Brian Kempton of West Alexandria and Mary Weimer of Indianapolis, Indiana; a son, Darrell and wife Tangela Weimer of New Madison; grandchildren, Austin and Paul Kempton, Rochelle, Natasha, Amos and Tyler Weimer; a brother, Norman and wife Barbara Weimer of New Madison; sisters, Nancy Bloom of Desapeke, Virginia, Phyllis and Don Michaelsen of Olmstead Falls, Ohio and Letha and Terry Whittington of Hollansburg, Ohio as well as many nieces and nephews.

James M. Hayes, 85 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at 8:30 AM at Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born February 9, 1928 in Middletown, Ohio the son of the late Clair & Alice (Hillard) Hayes.

He worked as a Foreman at AK Steel in Middletown for 41 years and he was a carpenter. He served in the United States Army.

He was a member of Ansonia United Methodist Church; Greenville American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Martha Wright; brother: Richard Hayes in infancy.

He survived by his wife: Virginia R. (Miller) Hayes of Greenville whom he married March 21, 1953; sons & daughters in law: Thomas & Jodell Hayes of Dublin, Ohio, Daniel & Colleen Hayes of Greenville, Michael & Vicki Hayes of Cape Coral, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother: Donald Hayes of Lebanon, Ohio.

Phyllis E. (Weikert) Fritz Koetter, age 89, of Greenville, Ohio (Wayne Lakes), passed away on Tuesday, November 05, 2013 6:30 AM at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on June 14, 1924 in Montgomery County, Ohio, to the late Vernon A. & Cora E. (Meeds) Weikert.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Mike & Debbie Fritz of Tipp City, Ohio, Ron & Lynda Fritz of Arcanum, Ohio and Jim & Peggy Fritz of Greenville; daughter and son in law, Debra & Ken Beier of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nikki (Eric) Rustad, Paul (Shelia) Fritz, Jessica (Jeremy) Pifer, Tyler (Teresa) Fritz, Chad (Christy) Fritz, Mandy (Allen) Byrd, Matohya (Steve Mills) Sowry, Colleen (Shane Huebel) Beier, Sara (Brent) Wiebke and Jim (Kelly) Beier; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The Fritz family maintained a loving relationship with Phyllis throughout the years. Phyllis was a member of the Harris Creek Church of the Brethren and loved to travel, bus trips, reading, collect paper weights and roosters.

Sharon Kay (Thornburg) Dapore, 70, of Greenville, passed away peacefully at 2:57 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2013 at Heartland in Hospice Care from complications after several surgeries and a 24 day stay in ICU at Good Samaritan Hospital. She spent her final days surrounded in love with family members and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Thornburg, her mother, Mary (Fisher) Thornburg, her "mom", Reba Thornburg, and a grandson, Joseph "Baby Joey" Dapore.

Sharon is survived by her husband of over 54 years, Joseph Dapore; daughters, Sherry (Keith) Parker, Lori (Donald) Jones; son, Kevon (Brenda) Dapore; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Reba "Joyce" Moore; lifelong friend and "aunt", Ruby Cool; her constant companion of almost 10 years, Chel Li, her Papillion, and Braveheart, her cat.

Sharon was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She brought the meaning of "home" to life with her very loving and giving heart. She always thought of everyone else first, making sure not to miss any birthdays, anniversaries, or other life events within her circle of family and friends. There were never enough people to share the holidays with, especially at Easter and Christmas. Her family was her life and she cherished them completely.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 8, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, with Rev. Fr. John White officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5-7 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice.

The family would like to express special thanks to Melissa, our "Little Angel" and Holly Gump, who came to the other Nurse’s aides to help assist with Sharon, both from Good Samaritan, Sister Rosemary for her constant vigilance, Allison Hummel with Hospice for her genuine compassion for Sharon in her last hours, and all of those at Heartland who befriended her during her stay.

Kathy Jo Shuret (November 04, 2013)

Kathy Jo Shuret, 54, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 04, 2013 at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

She was born November 9, 1958, in Greenville, the daughter of the late Kenneth Eugene and Gladys Mae Shuret.

Kathy was a nurse’s assistant and worked at the Brethren Home for many years as well as Heartland Health Care Center.

She is survived by her brother, Edward “Gene” (Barb) Shuret, nieces Megan and Madison; and sister, Deborah L. Shuret, all of Greenville.

Memorial services will be held 6PM Friday, November 8, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Greenville Union Cemetery. Private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5PM to 6PM.

Eugene Bernard “Butch” Link (November 3, 2013)

Eugene Bernard “Butch” Link age 89 of Rossburg, Ohio passed away at 9:00 P.M. Sunday November 3, 2013 at his residence. Eugene was born March 18, 1924 in Mercer County Ohio and the son of the late Henry and Kunagunda (Klingshirn) Link.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Darke County area and a Veteran of W.W. II serving as a Military Policeman in the U.S. Army. Eugene was also a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law Irene and Urban Zahn and his brother and sister in law Cyrl and Pauline Link.

Eugene is survived by his wife Loretta L. (Berning) Link of Rossburg. They were married February 12, 1947. Also son and daughter in law Dr. James and Susan Link of New London, N.C.; daughter and son in law Bonnie and Larry Yoder of Rossburg; grandchildren and spouses Nikki (Yoder) “Don” Davis, Karly (Yoder) “Gary” Beisner, Jamie (Link) “Neal” Harrington, Steven Link; great grandchildren Madison Beisner, Brody Beisner, Mamie Harrington, Libby Link; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday November 7, 2013 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church 71 West Main Street Burkettsville, Ohio with Father Benedict Magabe as Celebrant. Burial with Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard will follow in the St. Bernard Catholic Church Cemetery in Burkettsville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Prayers will be conducted Wednesday afternoon in the funeral home.

It is the wishes of the family that Memorial Contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice.
