Richard E. “Dick” Hill (September 15, 2017)

Richard E. “Dick” Hill age 90, of Greenville passed away at 8:45 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born December 25, 1926, in York Center, Ohio, to the late Willis W. & Helen (Bitler) Hill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Mitch Raper; brothers, Walter and Carl Hill; sisters, Pauline Orr, Ruth Adkins and Helen Louise Hill; sisters-in-law, Dottie Hill and Thelma Hill; and brother-in-law, George Reis.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce J. (Bell) Hill; children, Kim Raper of Anderson, Indiana, Bev & Tony Titus of Indianapolis, Indiana and Tim & Cheryl Hill of Greenville, Ohio; grandchildren, Molly & Sam Price, Dusty & Michelle Hill, Gabe Raper, Ben & Ann Titus and Blake Titus; great-grandchildren, Annie Price, Will Price, Jacyn Titus, Hattie Titus and Jaxon Hill; brother, Chuck Hill of Dublin, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Hill of Marion, Ohio, Brenda Webster of Columbus, Ohio, Cheryl Reis of Dublin, Ohio and Ruth Bell of Portsmouth, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick served in the U.S. Army during WWII in which he was a Private First Class in the 185 2nd Area Service Unit. He owned and operated Dick Hill Insurance Service in Greenville from 1966 to 1992. Dick was a member of the First Congregational Christian Church in Greenville, Greenville American Legion and Greenville Moose Lodge. He was former Past Master of the Gettysburg Grange.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Japheth Bear and Rev. Don Myers officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home, followed by full Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. Gerald “Jerry” Bruggeman (September 16, 2017)

Gerald “Jerry” Bruggeman, 81 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at The Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.

Jerry was born August 6, 1936 in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late Aloys and Elizabeth (Miller) Bruggeman.

In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his son, Ronald Bruggeman, his sisters, Rita, Marie, Dorothy, and Julie; and a brother, Alex.

Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Marion Local High School. He was a member of the Greenville Eagles Club and the Greenville Knights of Columbus. Jerry enjoyed throwing ball with his grandkids and playing with his dog. Jerry and his wife, Pat bowled for many years together on the Knights of Columbus mixed doubles team.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Frantz) Bruggeman of Greenville, whom he married on June 29, 1957; his son and daughter-in-law, John (Tommie) Bruggeman of Celina; his daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Kiser of Greenville, and Vicki (Dan) Longfellow of New Madison; his grandchildren, Kevin Bruggeman, Kate Wright, Bill Kiser, Myra Cattell, Ben Longfellow, and Eric Longfellow; 17 great grandchildren; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene (Norman) Stueve of Minster, and Barb (Dennis) Link of Maria Stein; a brother and sister-in-law, Art (Charlotte) Bruggeman of Maria Stein; brother-in-law, Ivo Link of St. Henry; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and Friends may visit on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM following the visitation at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Fee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery.

Everette R. Rex (September 15, 2017)

Everette R. Rex age 75, of Arcanum, passed away at 2:10 AM on Friday, September 15, 2017, at State of the Heart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born December 1, 1941, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to the late Vernie & Florine (Goens) Rex. In addition to his parents, Everette was also preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Rismiller and Annabelle Krueger.

Everette is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice (Beasecker) Rex whom he married June 2, 1962; sons & daughters-in-law, Timothy & Rhonda Rex of St. Henry and Russell & Angie Rex of Arcanum; grandchildren, Janelle Brunswick, Daniel & Janel Rex and Tyler Rex; great-granddaughter, Brynnlee Jane Rex; brothers, Terrence Rex of Greenville and Roger Rex of Maryville, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Everette was a plumber and pipe fitter for Local #162 in Dayton until his retirement. He was the founder of Extreme Insanity Dog Sports and was a member of the Greenville Area Dog Club.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Myra Ary officiating. Howard “Junior” O’Dell (September 14, 2017)

Howard “Junior” O’Dell age 85, of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 8:50 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Village Green Healthcare Center in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born April 15, 1932, in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Howard & Mabel (Sellers) O’Dell. In addition to his parents, Junior was also preceded in death by his wife, Florence E. (Miller) O’Dell; son, John H. O’Dell; brothers, DeWitt, Wilbur and Richard O’Dell; and sisters, Jeanette Ashworth and Francine Baker.

Junior was a lifelong, hardworking farmer.

Junior is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Karen & Larry Duncan of Greenville, Ohio, Kathy & Jim Greendyke of Greenville, Ohio, Peggy & Neil Dean of Port Charlotte, Florida, Lisa & Doug Krickenbarger of West Alexandria, Ohio and Linda & Craig Schweitzer of Powell, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Elaine Weidner of Arcanum, Ohio, Sara Gray of Arcanum, Ohio and Charlotte Weinzierl of Michigan; special friend, Phyllis Delaplane of Logan, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cynthia “Cindy” Devor (September 12, 2017)

Cynthia “Cindy” Devor, 62 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday September 12, 2017 at 1:49 PM at Kettering Medical Center, Kettering, Ohio. She was born November 30, 1954 in Union City, Indiana the daughter of the late William & Alberta (Grim) Holden. She was a member of the Union City Eagles.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Gary Devor; sister: Deb Rohr.

She is survived by her children: Cory Devor and Sarah Devor; her grandchildren: Alaina, Adeline, & Liam Devor; brothers & sisters in law: Jerry & Ann Grim, Steve & Linda Holden, Doc Holden, Mark Holden; numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Monday September 18, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Burial will be held in Greenville Cemetery. Leona Sheets (September 13, 2017)

Leona Sheets, 79, of Rossburg, passed away, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born February 14, 1938 in Troy, Ohio, the daughter of the late Leonard and Arthella “Peggy” (Tucker) Walters.

In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her son, Larry E. Sheets; and her sister, Sarah Miller-Holbein.

Leona was a 1956 graduate of Ansonia High School. She was a librarian at the Greenville Public Library where she also drove the book mobile. Later on, she was a bus driver for Anthony Wayne Early Childhood Development Center. Seventeen years ago, Leona along with her sister, Sarah, started the Third Thursday Quilt Club which is still active. She helped with the Emmaus Walks in Darke County and was one of the first volunteer EMT’s at Ansonia EMS. Leona and Albert liked to ride their motorcycle, camping at the Darke County Fair, and going to bluegrass festivals.

Leona is survived by her husband of 61 years, Albert H. ”Buck” Sheets of Rossburg, whom she married May 9,1956; her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan E. Thornhill of San Antonio, Texas, Charlotte A. (Keith) Threewits of Union City; Ruth E. Nusbaum of Celina; Marilyn K. (Jeff) Cotner of Eaton; Judy C. (Robert) Stachler of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; her sister, Norma Smetzer of Port Clinton, Ohio; her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry (Barbara) Walters of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Tony Hedger (September 12, 2017)

Tony Hedger, 62, of Hollansburg, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

He was born July 27,1955 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Harold Hedger and Lucy (Hall) Hedger of Hollansburg.

In addition to his father, Tony was preceded in death by, his father-in-law, Jack Miller; brothers-in-law, Scott Miller and Jeff Miller; and best friends, Pie and Kenny Phillips.

Tony was a 1975 graduate of Tri-Village High School. He had worked for Fram for 42 years. He enjoyed attending USAC National Sprint Car Races, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and four wheeling on the family farm. Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his family and friends. Tony was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and uncle. The memories of Tony's life will be cherished and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Tony is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sheryll (Miller) Hedger of Hollansburg, whom he married on October 19, 1973; son, Jason Hedger of Palestine; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry (Matt) Sharp of Greenville; grandchildren, Jarod Sharp, Dakota Edger, Loren Sharp, and Jadyn (Jazzybell) Sharp; great grandson, Kohen Sharp; sister, Shirley Tapp of Hollansburg; nieces, Kristi (John) Thiebeau and Misti (Terry) Tuente, Jenna (Colton) Forte; nephews, Adam (Holly) Miller, Jacob Miller, Jack Rifenberg, Graham Shafer; great nieces, Lucy and Trina Tuente; mother-in-law, Marilyn Miller of Greenville; sisters-in-law, Dawn Shafer of Greenville and Lori Miller of Greenville.

Lowell E. Brandon, 95 of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born March 16, 1922 in Savona, Ohio, the son of the late Chester and Dora (Noggle) Brandon.

In addition to his parents, Lowell is preceded in death by his wife Marlene (Hamilton) Brandon; his son, Phillip Brandon.

Lowell served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He loved to travel to his cottage in Michigan, there he spent much of his time fishing and riding on the pontoon boat. During the winters, Lowell and his wife spent their time at their home in Mesa, Arizona.

Lowell is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert (Judy) Brandon of Greenville and Ronald (Kim) Brandon of Winchester, Indiana; his grandchildren, Lisa Simpson, Kimberly (Ryan) Anthony, Robert P. (Kim) Brandon, David C. Brandon, Kelly (Jason) Laux, Brian (Lora) Brandon, Christine (Kenny) Miller; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Alden E. Hittle, age 80, of Dayton, Ohio, and formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at 11:50 PM at Heartland of Greenville. He was born on July 15, 1937 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Raymond & Edna (Howell) Hittle.

Alden is survived by his daughter and son in law, Cynthia & Kent Fritz of Ft. Recovery, Ohio; sons and daughter in law, Scott & Sue Hittle of Kansas City, Missouri, and Tim Hittle of Union City, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers and sister in law, Donnie & Marilyn Hittle of Greenville and Gary Hittle of Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Lewis “Junior” Hittle.

Alden worked at the Broadway Auto Sales which was later known as the Genuine Auto Sales, Party Dock, Sears, Dority Chrysler Plymouth and Rodefeld’s all in Greenville. He was a member of the United Sates Army serving from Oct. 19, 1960 to Oct. 18, 1962. He loved woodworking and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He also collected Franklin Mint Cars and loved watching NASCAR.

There will be a service held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens, Greenville, Ohio, where the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard will conduct a Military Graveside Service. Family will receive friends on Friday from noon until the time of the service.

Junior Turner, 94, of Ansonia, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

He was born June 7, 1923 in Rossburg, Ohio, to the late Balinger and Grace (Gray) Turner. In addition to his parents Junior was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Wayne Turner and Russell Turner; sisters, Anna Mary Taylor, Ruth Schaar, Dorothy Boyd, Alta Peters, Alice Wentworth, Mildred Hocker, Virginia Gilmore, and his twin sister, June Wentworth.

Junior served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Ansonia First Church of God. Junior had many passions in life; he loved fishing and bowling, but above all, he loved his family. He adored his grandchildren, he was always worried about others and he loved his Lord. Junior was a kind and generous man and he will be missed by all.

Junior is survived by his wife of 72 years, Phyllis (Boze) Turner; daughters, Diann (John) Hartzell and Vickie (Mike) Doyle; sons, Jerry (Carrie) Turner and Tim (Jan) Turner all of Ansonia; grandchildren, Brian (Lora) Brandon, Kelly (Jason) Laux, Laurie (Mike) Erwin, Lisa (Todd) Mowery, Robin (Jerry) Spencer, Kristin (Jeremy Miller) Doyle, Abby (Zack) Evers, Sarah (Kenny) Edwards, Audrey (Adam) Kaiser, Aaron (Nichole Dugan) Turner, Alec (Brittany Broering) Turner, Eric Hartzell; 29 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a brother, Bob (Nadine) Turner of Rossburg; a sister, Norma Rammel of Greenville; sister-in-law, Janet Turner of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 15, 2017 at Ansonia First Church of God, 750 S. Main Street, Ansonia, with Pastor Derek Specht officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Garden.

Gloria Gaynell (Harless) Hollinger, 89 of Greenville, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017. Gloria was born on August 16, 1928 in Greenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Paul and Verona Harless of New Madison.

In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Daniel Hollinger.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Nick and Joanie Hollinger of New Madison, Gary and Michelle (Hollinger) Cohee of Greenville, and Kevin and Teresa Hollinger of New Madison; her grandchildren and their spouses: Brent and Jen Hollinger of New Madison, Eric and Christy (Hollinger) Sarver of New Madison, Adam and Kami Hollinger of New Madison, Sean and Yolandaleah (Cohee) Olding of Liberty Township, Brian and Hannah (Hollinger) Arbogast of New Madison, Nic and Elisabeth (Hollinger) Rausch of Greenville, Jimmy and Ruth (Hollinger) Ragsdale of New Madison, and Ben and Sarah Hollinger of New Madison; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; and her sister, Tamara Mote.

Gloria graduated from Palestine High School in 1946. She graduated from Miami Valley School of nursing in 1949. She married her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Daniel Hollinger, September 11, 1949. They resided in New Madison for most of their married lives.

A private funeral service will be held at Oliver Funeral Home in Greenville; burial followed in the Greenmound Cemetery.

Brian Allan Voisard (September 9, 2017)

Brian Allan Voisard, age 26, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 4:31 AM at his residence. He was born on April 6, 1991 in Greenville, Ohio, to Rick & Jackie (Laub) Voisard of Versailles, Ohio.

Brian was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan. 2009 Graduate of Versailles High School where he played the bells and drums for the high school band. He was a graduate of Wright State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Brian loved computers and collecting monopoly games. He always enjoyed Poultry Days and playing cards at family get-togethers. He was loving, caring and always enjoyable to be around. He was the type to always see the positive in life.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Carol (Sanders) Laub of Versailles, Ohio; aunts and uncles, Chris & Mike Gehron of Vandalia, Ohio, Bruce & Linda Laub of Bloomer, Ohio, Marlene Laub of Versailles, Dale & Betty Voisard of Tipp City, Ohio, Ron & Judy Voisard of Sidney, Ohio, Gene & Pam Voisard of Minster, Ohio, and Karen & Vern Rosenbeck of Russia, Ohio; numerous cousins; as well as Twila Oldham Laub of Greenville.

Brian is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Laub; paternal grandparents, Paul & Erna Voisard; aunts and uncle, Joyce & James Ratterman and Mary Voisard.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio. William Louis McDaniel (September 7, 2017)

William Louis McDaniel, age 73, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Wayne HealthCare, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on December 15, 1943 in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Lucien & Charleen (Shaw) McDaniel.

William is survived by his wife of 54 years Sheila (Smith) McDaniel of Greenville whom he married on November 17, 1962; sons and daughter in law, Troy McDaniel and Shannon & Dawn McDaniel both of Greenville; daughter, Dana Baker of Huber Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley McDaniel, Levi Baker, Jordan Blanton, Madyson McDaniel, Irina McDaniel, Nina McDaniel, Elisa McDaniel, Maria McDaniel, Tristan McDaniel, Sarah McDaniel, Alex McDaniel and William L. McDaniel III; great grandchildren, Daniel, David and Lily Horne; sisters, Jean (Pat) Russ of Union City, IN, and Cheryle (Mike Ford) Blankenship of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

William retired in 2004 from General Motors after 39 years of service. William served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion in Greenville. He was an avid fisherman and loved hunting. He attended the Greenville Baptist Temple in Greenville.

There will be a service held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Mark Ridgeway officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.

John B. Falknor, 94, of New Madison passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at his residence.

John was born February 14, 1923 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late John B. and Marie (Eley) Falknor.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruthanna Butts and Helen (Petey) Hodgin.

John was a member of the New Madison First United Methodist Church and was a 1941 graduate from New Madison High School. He was a past member of the Darke County Farm Bureau.

E. E. “Joe” Bredeson (September 5, 2017)

E. E. “Joe” Bredeson, 96, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio.

Joe was born November 20, 1920 on a farm Near Madison, Wisconsin, to the late Carl and Jennie (Anfinson) Bredeson.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his wife Denise Bredeson, a brother, Glenn Bredeson and an half brother, Albert Kvammen.

Joe attended the University of Wisconsin prior to joining the United States Army. While in Europe, serving in the Army (101st Airborne Division), he received both the Purple Heart and the Silver Star medals during the invasion of Normandy. It was during his time in Europe, he met and married his wife, Denise Charpentier. After returning to the states in 1946, he began to work with Swift & Co. (ag-chem division) serving in several managerial positions with his final position in Greenville, Ohio. Joe is a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Greenville.

Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jack Allen (Debbie) Bredeson of Union, Ohio; his daughter and son-in-law, Maxine Patricia (Robert) DeBard of Ninety-Six, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Lori Robb of Orlando, Florida, Rob DeBard of Hollywood, California, Matthew Bredeson and Jonathan Bredeson both of Union, Ohio; his great grandchildren, Lilly and Leah Gringeri of Orlando, Florida

Janet Mae Bey (September 3, 2017)

Janet Mae Bey, 74, of Versailles, passed away Sunday September 3, 2017 at her home.

Janet was born on April 3, 1943 in Darke County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Allen and Luella (Sanders) Mendenhall.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John Bey, whom she married February 11, 1961; her daughter, Patricia Schoen; and six brothers and sisters, Gary, Johnny, Kathy, Larry and Duane Mendenhall, and Carolyn Minnich.

Janet worked at Weaver Bros. in Versailles for over 23 years. She enjoyed garage sales, crossword and Jigsaw puzzles, and collecting candles, chicken figurines and commemorative quarters. She was friendly and outgoing. Coffee was her favorite hobby and good conversation with a cup of coffee was a good day. Janet has touched many hearts and has left many memories.

Janet is survived by her children and their spouses, Terry Bey of Greenville, Karen and Larry Smith of Greenville, and John and Sandra Bey of Versailles; eight grandchildren, Janelle Smith, Amanda Smith, Billy and his wife Amber Bey, Tiffany Bey, Eric Norman, Amber Schoen, Heather Bey, and Ashley Bey; two step grandchildren, Michael Whittaker and Stephanie Shimp; and 11 great grandchildren. Janet also leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Donnie Dowell; and countless nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles.

Roger Alan Flory (September 4, 2017)

Roger Alan Flory, age 67 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:15 AM Monday September 4, 2017 at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born June 19, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio and the son of the late Albert and Muriel (Jones) Flory.

Roger was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was retired as an Office Equipment Technician and was a former member of the V.F.W. in Dothan, Alabama.

Roger is survived by his sister Sandra (Tom) McGriff of Greenville and 3 nephews and their families.

Private Funeral Services will be held in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with full Military Honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Dayton VA National Cemetery.

Ben Clark Hudson (September 3, 2017)

Ben Clark Hudson, 86, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

Ben was born on September 19, 1930 in Dayton, a son of the late Ben and Molly (Beach) Hudson.

In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Menchhofer, Francis Randall and Marie Harris.

Ben served his country honorably in the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Ben had worked at Fram as a Quality Control Inspector and retired after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Gettysburg Masonic Lodge, the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Grand Council of the Royal and Select Masons of Ohio and the AASR. Ben also belonged to the Antioch Shriners.

Ben is survived by his wife of 58 years, Karen (O’Brien) Hudson, whom he married April 24, 1959; and his daughter, Sherry Hudson of Cincinnati, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville with Rev. John Person officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Greenville Honor Guard, will follow in Greenville Cemetery.

John P. Thiebeau 80 of Versailles, Ohio passed away on Monday September 4, 2017 at 7:44 AM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born December 2, 1936 in Frenchtown, Ohio the son of the late Chalmer & Georgianna (Batty) Thiebeau. He was a mechanic for Thiebeau Auto Service, Elson Ford and retired from Riverside. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

She was a member of the Piqua Church of the Nazarene.

Doyle L. Hemmerich, 91 of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Friday September 1, 2017 at 9:00 AM at his residence. He was born march 2, 1926 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late Clarence & Susie Olive (Netzley) Hemmerich. He was a farmer. He served honorably in the United States Army Air Corp in World War II He completed basic training at Camp Walters, Texas and Kingsfield Areal Gunnery Training in Spokane, Washington and served in the 8th Air Force 316th Bombardment Wing 346 Bombardment Group serving 10 months in Okinawa and 2 weeks in Japan. He was discharged at the rank of Seargent. He was a lifetime member of the Greenville V.F.W. Post # 7262.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Naomi Vere (Kimmel) Hemmerich whom he married June 16, 1951; brother: Ken Hemmerich; sisters: Carolyn K. Huelskamp, Sue Ann Gearhart; great granddaughter: Adele Hemmerich.

Ron Gilbert, 69 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday September 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. He was born June 12, 1948 in Greenville, Ohio the son of the late John & Glenna (Warner) Gilbert. He retired from Whirlpool.

He was a member of First Congregational Christian Church where he served as a deacon; Greenville Masonic Lodge # 143; Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton; Antioch Shrine; Darke County Shrine Club; he volunteered at the Darke County Parks and the Garst Museum; He was a 1966 Graduate of Greenville High School; and a 1971 Graduate of Defiance College.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his in laws: Chester & Violet Cochran.

He is survived by the love of his life Ginger (Cochran) Gilbert of Greenville whom he was married to for 43 years and married May 4, 1974; his son: Chris Gilbert of Van Wert; daughter: Amber (Gilbert) Swaney and husband David of Dayton; Grandchildren who called him PAPARON: McKenna & Elizabeth Gilbert, Evan “Little Buddy” Swaney, & step grandchild: Molly Hardin; brother in law: Phil Mong; sister in law: Sharon Condy; aunts: Helen Coppess of Ansonia, Donna & Bob Warner of Tipp City; special friends: Duane & Becky Miller & Ellen Swaney; loving dogs: Lily & Wicket; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.

Maya A. Penny (September 1, 2017)

Maya A. Penny age 89 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 3:01 AM Friday September 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Maya was born November 6, 1927 in Kirchheim Teck Germany and the daughter of the late Karl F. and Anna E. (Benz) Wurster.

She moved to the United States in 1948 and married her husband John A. Penny February 8, 1948.

Maya retired in 1989 from Eatmore Market of Greenville where she had been employed as their bookkeeper. She was a member of the Emmaus New Testament Church of Greenville, the Democratic Women’s Club of Darke County and enjoyed crocheting and was particularly proud of the United States Flag she crocheted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John A. Penny September 16, 2009 and her sister Doris G. Schurer.

Maya is survived by her son Carl Vogel of Tarpon Springs, Florida and her brother Willy Wurster of Stuttgart, Germany.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday September 8, 2017 in the Brethren Retirement Community Chapel 750 Chestnut Street Greenville, Ohio with Pastors Jim Leonard and John Glenn co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 PM until time of the services in the Chapel at the Brethren Retirement Community.

Shirley E. (Sellers) Turner (September 2, 2017)

Shirley E. (Sellers) Turner was born on September 23, 1949 to Clarence and Pauline (Williams) Sellers in Muncie, Indiana and gained her heavenly wings on September 2, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at home.

Shirley was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed creating unique personalized quilts for each of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved remodeling her home and creating beautiful things with her hands.

Shirley attended Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Indiana. Shirley was a long time employee of Whirlpool Corp., Greenville, Ohio, retiring in 2016 after 19 years.

Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Roy Turner on May 15, 1965, in Muncie, Indiana. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her great grandson, Jaxin Alexander Steward.

Shirley is survived by her husband, children and their spouses. Renea (Paul Sr) McCleskey, Ron (Laura) Turner, Christy (Keith) Smith and Dan (Beth) Turner. Grandchildren Ashley McCleskey, Danielle Richard, Paul (Nicole Smith) McCleskey Jr., Victoria (Matt) Smith, Blake (Vannessa) Owens, Denyse (Kirsten Davis) Turner, Paige Philip, Courtney Turner, Stephanie (Thomas Preston) Whetstone, Alexas Copeland, Trinnity Smith, Braydon Smith and Kenton Turner. Shannon Francis Vanatta (August 24, 2017)

Shannon Francis Vanatta, 62, of Union City, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at her home.

Shannon was born on January 1, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of the late Hubert Pitts and Edna Hamlett.

In addition to her parents, Shannon was preceded in death by her son, Jason Wolfe.

Shannon had a love of life that was infectious. She was a voracious reader, sometimes reading several books in a single day. She loved animals, especially her dogs, Gunner, Greta and the late Lexi. She enjoyed the outdoors, boating and relaxing on Celina Lake with friends and family, tending to her outdoor plants and baskets, and floating in the pool with an ice-cold margarita. She was an amazing host and loved to entertain guests. Everyone would look forward to the exquisite BBQ that she would help Todd prepare and serve. They had plenty of practice preparing world-class BBQ through their many years of owning and operating Smokestack BBQ.

Shannon’s greatest passion, however, was being a caregiver. She devoted her life to caring for the needs of senior citizens and the last three years also caring for Todd. She was the current Community Relations Manager for Enlivant Addison Place, a senior assisted living facility in New Castle, Indiana. She was Aunt Shannon to everyone, and FAS (Favorite Aunt Shannon) to a precious few. Shannon was a rare and special person. It can be said that there has never been and there will never be another like her. Shannon’s favorite quote was, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”.

Shannon is survived by her husband of 26 years, Todd Vanatta, whom she married December 13, 1990; her son, Blane Francis of Overland Park, Kansas City, Missouri; daughter-in-law Nickie Wolfe of Lafayette, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Mason Francis, Olivia Francis, Jackson Wolfe and Mackenzie Wolfe; her sister-in-law (sis), Sandy Baker of Greenville; mother-in-law, Ruth (Vanatta) Fields of Greenville. Shannon also leaves behind her niece Monica (Jason) Hupman; nephews Chad Marker and Jason (Beth) Marker; great nephews, Jacob Gates and Brody Hupman; and great nieces, Rylie, Kayla and Addison Marker, and Haven and Tatum Marker; and special friends, Doreen Drue, Peggy Lynn and Anthony and countless others.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Eric Fee officiating.

Donald Duane Holdeman (August 27, 2017)

Donald Duane Holdeman, 80, passed away early Sunday morning, August 27, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

Donald was born on June 30, 1937 in Ansonia, to the late Raymond and Goldie Holdeman.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Betty, Marvin, Emerson, Bill and Virginia.

Donald served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He loved his family and especially adored his grandkids. Donald liked to keep busy an enjoyed being outside doing yard-work. He loved sports and enjoyed watching any kind of car racing and the Cleveland Browns. Donald knew everyone and loved to spend time with friends and family sharing stories and memories. He was an Ansonian to the core being a 1955 Ansonia High School graduate. He kept up with the high school football team and had even donated memorabilia to the Ansonia Athletic Department. He looked forward to the holidays and spending them with those he loved most.

Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne (Ray) Holdeman whom he married in November 1959; his two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Holdeman of Greenville, and Shane Holdeman of Greenville; five grandchildren, Stephen, Chrissy, Dakota, Rayne and Amara Holdeman; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life service, with full military honors provided by the Greenville Honor Guard, will be held at 7:00PM, Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with District Elder Mark Jauss officiating.

David Kuck (August 24, 2017)

David Kuck, 68, of Greenville passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at State of the Heart Care Center in Greenville.

David was born September 14, 1948 in Lima, the son of the late Lester and Mabel (Geib) Kuck.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

David had worked for Darke County Mental Health and Catholic Social Services as a family and child therapist. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University and was an avid OSU fan.

David is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jenny Kuck of Greenville, whom he married September 4, 1999; his son and daughter in law, Andrew (Cathrine ) Kuck of Austin, Texas; his daughter, Megan Kuck of Columbus; his grandchildren, Bennett Kuck and Ruby Kuck; his step sons, William Francis of Plano, Texas, Scott Francis of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Michael Francis of Lexington, Kentucky.


Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
