Betty June Riegle (June 20, 2016)

Betty June Riegle, age 86, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, June 20, 2016. She was born June 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Arthur and Merle (Banks) Kelch of Willowdell.

Growing up in Willowdell with her seven siblings, she was a member of the Lutheran Church and attended elementary school locally. She was a 1947 graduate of Versailles High School.

In June of 1950, she met the love of her life William (Bill) Riegle of New Madison at a local square dance. The couple was then married later that year on December 3rd. They have resided over 58 years on their farm outside of New Madison where they raised two children. She has been a faithful member of the New Madison United Methodist Church.

Betty enjoyed caring for her husband, family and many friends as well as cooking, gardening, playing cards, and reading. She worked at Ketrings Locker Service for 20 years.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Connie Flatter also of New Madison as well as by her brother Harold Kelch and wife Mary, brother Homer Kelch and wife Myra, brother Raymond Kelch and wife Naomi, sister Marcella (Kelch) Stiefel and husband Ralph, sister Joan (Kelch) Hafer and husband Frank, brother-in-law Robert Rupe, sister in law Charlene Kelch, mother and father-in-law Glen and Grace (Hittle) Riegle, brother-in-law Gene Cox, nephew Jay Rupe and nephew Terry Kelch.

Betty is survived by her husband of 65 years Bill, son Larry and wife Lisa of New Madison, her sister Margie (Kelch) Rupe of New Philadelphia, her brother Bob Kelch of Eaton, sister-in-law Patty (Riegle) Cox of Tipp City, brother and sister- in-law George and Janice Riegle of Greenville and son-in-law Tom Flatter of New Madison. She is also survived by her four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren who were her pride and joy. They include grandson Derek Flatter and his wife Mandy along with their children Landon, Ella, Amelia and Hudson of Arcanum, grandson Aaron Flatter and his wife Pam of New Madison, grandson Jeremy and his wife Tabitha along with their children Delaney and Taylor of Indianapolis and Emily (Riegle) Kelley and her husband Jon along with their son Oliver William of Columbus. In addition, she is survived by 23 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of life service will be held at 2PM on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in New Madison with Pastor Carol Duffield officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Jefferson, OH. A meal will be held at the New Madison United Methodist church following the burial. Family and Friends may visit Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM, also at the church.

Roberta J. Harden (June 20, 2016)

Roberta J. Harden age 60, of Greenville passed away at 8:34 A.M. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at her residence. Roberta was born May 21, 1956 in Piqua, Ohio to the late William & Maddie Marie (Tidwell) Harmon.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Earl “Jimmy” Harden; sister, Eloise Engle of Sidney; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, Robert was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Robert J. Harmon and brother, Tommy Borland.

Irene Elizabeth Carpenter (June 18, 2016)

Irene Elizabeth Carpenter, age 80, of Moraine, OH, passed away, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:10 AM at Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Moraine, OH. She lived most of her life in Greenville, OH from 1955 to 2012.

She was born Tuesday, August 13, 1935 in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late Bunyan and Della (Brown) Day.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald James Carpenter, whom she married May 28, 1955; and her son-in-law, Daniel Mason Summers; and 5 of her 7 siblings.

Irene was a simple and wholesome woman who was dedicated to her family and friends, and a devoted member of her church. Many people knew her as "The Hat Lady". She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and her legacy lives on through them. She will be truly missed.

Irene is survived by three children, Pamela Summers of San Diego, CA, James (Susie) Carpenter of Dublin, OH and Christina Medrano of Moraine, OH; two grandchildren, Jerry Christopher Harrison of Colorado Springs, CO and Julia Christina Harrison of Fullerton, CA; a brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Day of Ashland, KY and a sister, Gayla Schultz of Austin, TX. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Joslin of Tipp City, OH, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville with Fr. John White officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends may visit Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.

Norma J. Anderson (June 16, 2016)

Norma J. Anderson age 81, of Greenville passed away at 12:45 P.M. on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Dayton. Norma was born August 8, 1934 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Amos & Bessie (Hartzell) Clawson.

Norma is survived by her husband, John P. Anderson whom she married January 6, 1979; step-children, Jeff Anderson of Indiana, Amy Anderson of Indiana and Wes Anderson of North Carolina; grandchildren, Kyle Olwine, Tammy & Chad Hawk and Wes & Amanda Elliott; great-grandchildren, Madison Hawk, Callie Elliott and Chloe Elliott; and sister, Marcella Ryder of Versailles.

In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded in death by her daughters, Dianne Elliott and Kimberly Olwine; and 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Norma retired in 1996 from Fram Corporation in Greenville where she worked for 20 years.

A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Harold E. Stauffer (June 14, 2016)

Harold E. Stauffer age 93 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. Harold was born October 26, 1922 in Butler Township in Darke County to the late David A. & Garnett E. (Hoff) Stauffer.

Harold is survived by his daughters & son-in-law, Beverly Pressnall of Centerville and Gayle & James Harnisfager of Hilliard; son & daughter-in-law, Timothy & Bobbi Stauffer of Sidney; grandchildren, Todd & Tammy Pressnall and Justin & Stephanie Harnisfager; great-grandchildren, Zoe & McKenzie Pressnall; brother, Robert Stauffer of Greenville; sisters, Sarah Alice Lesperance of Scottsdale, Arizona and Carol Massey of Scottsdale, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Harold was also preceded in death by his 1st wife, Mildred (Waltz) Stauffer; 2nd wife, Bettie J. (Harless) Moores-Stauffer; and sister, Lois Stauffer.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Harold was a salesman at Frank Girbert Inc. in Greenville for 37 years until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the EUM Church in Greenville, V.F.W. Post 7262 where he was a Past-Commander; D.A.V Post 57 of Greenville and Greenville Chapter National Association Amalgamated Liars.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Clarence Herman Wirrig (June 13, 2016)

Clarence Herman Wirrig, age 83 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 5:49 PM Monday June 13, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital Dayton, Ohio. Herman was born October 10, 1932 in Piqua, Ohio and the son of the late Leon and Bertha (Slade) Wirrig.

Herman was retired as the owner and operator of the Antique Dining Room of Arcanum, Fairlawn Steak House of Greenville and lastly from the Darke County Sheriff Department.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy Sea Bees and was a member of the Greenville American Legion and a Life Member of the Greenville Elks Lodge. Herman was an avid NASCAR Racing fan and back in the mid to late 50’s raced motorcycles.

Herman is survived by his wife Sandra Sue (Hart) Wirrig of Greenville. They were married February 19, 1990. Also son Tony (Mary Irene) Wirrig of Greenville; step children Alyssa Blinn of Greenville, John Baltes of Troy and Angela Hall of Kettering; grandchildren Amie (John) Jackson, Elisabeth (Grant) Spitler, Scott Wirrig and Jeff Wirrig; step grandchildren Jerry Blinn, Natalie Blinn, Cullen Blinn and Garrett Hall; great grandchild Leah Jackson; sister Connie “Toots” (Gary) Myers of Phoenix, AZ.; brothers Chester (Sharon) Wirrig of Arcanum and Charles “ Chuck” (Kathy) Wirrig of Englewood as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

He loved to go fishing and was a former member of the Greenville Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 sons Dennis and Michael Ginter; brothers Charles and Edward and sisters Mary Lou, Patti and Barbara.

Harold is survived by his wife Thelma R. (King) Weyant of Greenville. They have been married 48 years. Also his daughter Tanya Cornett of Greenville; grandchildren Misty, Shaun, Samantha , Spencer, Daniel and Lindsey; 6 great grandchildren; brothers James Weyant of North Carolina and John Weyant of Celina; sisters Eileen Woodman of Ansonia, Kathleen Lutz and Phyllis Crowell both of Greenville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday June 16, 2016 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Sam Shilot officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 PM until time of the services in the funeral home.

Peggy Ann (Paulus) Lockard (June 11, 2016)

Peggy Ann (Paulus) Lockard, 73, of Medway, Ohio passed away on June 11, 2016 at Grandview Hospital in Dayton. Peggy was born on January 14,1943 in Greenville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Samuel and Doris(Townsend)Paulus.

In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her husband James Lockard.

Peggy was an avid bowler at Poelking Lanes in Huber Heights. She enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and hockey games. She sold Avon for over 40 years and loved collecting porcelain dolls. Peggy enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and sitting on her front porch.

Peggy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Misty Cole of New Carlisle and Chad and Beverly Cole of Medway; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Greg Turner of Donnelsville; eight grandchildren, Lindsey and Matt Wilcox, Katie Turner, Madison Cole, Jordan Calico, Tayler, Erica, Emily and Elysa; two great grandchildren, Gracey and Gannon; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Petry of New Paris, Beverly and Bob Shaffer of West Manchester, and Connie and Jim White of Eldorado; close friend, Glenn Shakelford of Medway; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith I. Hawkins, 99 of Versailles, Ohio and formerly of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday June 11, 2016 at 7:20 AM at the Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. She was born September 14, 1916 in Darke County, Ohio the daughter of the late Roy & Anna (Cable) Anthony. She was a Home Health Aide and worked for 12 ½ years for the Darke County Health Department and 7 years at Family Health.

She was a member of First Assembly of God Church; and Ithaca Open Bible Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Virgil C. Hawkins whom she married August 16, 1940; son: Keith Hawkins, step son: Raymond Hawkins; sisters: Irene Magoteaux, Helen Crawford, Lois Butts, Thelma Goodpastor; brothers: Harold, Lester, Lloyd, Bill, & Dale Anthony.

Opal Loretta Jett, 87 passed away June 8, 2016 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville. Opal was born June 8, 1929 in Greenville. She was the daughter of Theodore Archey and Katholean (Epps) Archey.

Opal attended the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio and she was a member of the Bethel Long Wesleyan Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Phyllis wood.

She is survived by her husband: James Jett whom she married January 8, 1949, her children Douglas (Barbara) Jett of Coraopolis, PA. and Brenda Jett of Greenville; grandchildren: Douglas Jett Jr. of Philadelphia, PA. and Monica Jett of Baltimore, MD., her sister Lorene McCutchen of Dayton, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Pamela Geise officiating. Burial will follow in Clemens Cemetery. Kenneth G. Steiner, 83, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Sunday June 5, 2016 at 6:20 PM at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Greenville, Ohio. He was born September 17, 1932 in Brookville, Ohio the son of the late Webster & Cora M. (Moore) Steiner. He served in the United States Army. He was a Route man for Miami Valley News Agency.

He was a member of the American Legion; Jim Beam Bottle Collectors Association. He loved gardening, going to auctions, bird watching; he was an avid baker and excellent cook.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Webster Steiner Jr., sisters: Mildred Eyler, & Mary Roberts.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Beverly (Rish) Steiner; his daughter & son in law: Pam & Jeff Schinke; granddaughters: Sarah & Tessah Schinke; sisters & brother in law: Edna & Myron Brown, Bessie Elliott; & numerous nieces & nephews.

Services will be held on Friday June 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Albert W. “Al” Widener, age 76, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 5:43 AM at Heartland of Greenville, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on June 24, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late John W. & Evelyn (Mitchell) Widener.

He is survived by his wife Grace (Baker) Widener of Greenville, Ohio, whom he married on December 28, 1957; daughters and sons in law, Sherri & Robert Morris of Riley Twp., MI, and Jodi & Mike Eaglowski of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeff (Sarah Birt) Widener, Tera (Joe) Morris, Krista (Bill Spooner) Morris, Robert Morris, Mitchell Eaglowski, Murphy (Brittney) Eaglowski and Austine (Zachary) Walker; great grandchildren, Kali Meyers, Piper Widener, Elle Morris, Quinn Spooner and Emmry Eaglowski; siblings, Dann Widener, Raymond Widener, Ronnie Widener, John Widener, Jim Widener, Roselynne Widener and Sharon Bowman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son Terry Widener; brother, Harry Edward Widener and sister Sue Frye.

Al worked as a car detailer for several local dealerships and was an avid Nascar fan.

There will be a service held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Soley officiating. Felix J. “Junior” Simmons (June 4, 2016)

Felix J. “Junior” Simmons, age 92, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 1:14 PM at Versailles Health Care Center, Versailles, Ohio. He was born on May 22, 1924 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Felix E. & Loree (Eley) Simmons.

He is survived by his brother and sister in law, Larry D. & Carol Simmons of Versailles; niece, Michelle (Sam) Holsapple of Versailles; nephew, Larry E. Simmons of Webster, OH; great nieces, Paige and Brigette Holsapple; as well as other nieces and nephews living out of state.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Naomi (Miller) Simmons and brother, Paul Simmons.

Felix was a member of the United States Army and worked as a farmer for 19 years as well as at Willowdell Sales for 22 years.

There will be a graveside service held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Greenlawn Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio, with Pastor David Wilson officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 1-2 PM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

Elizabeth Anna Marie (Steinke) Hess (June 3, 2016)

Elizabeth Anna Marie (Steinke) Hess has went to be with loved ones on June 3, 2016. She had a full life passing on a month shy of 96 years on this earth. Mostly know by “Betty”, she was a homemaker, church religion teacher at St. Louis Catholic Church North Star for decades, then later for Holy Family in Frenchtown. Betty was also on Ansonia Rescue Volunteer Squad until 82 years old.

Born on July 11, 1919 to William Henry and Rosa Elizabeth (Rutschilling) in Mercer County, Ohio. After Williams passing, was raised by step-father Michael Martin Lefeld.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marie E. Bryan and Louella Mains Collins; baby sister Catherine; brother John W. Steinke, ½ brother Isadore Steinke; ½ sister Kathleen Figel; step sisters, Mary Francetta Lefeld CPPS, Rita Siegrist, Hilda Topp, Anna Hohl and their spouses; and her husband, Gerald Alva Hess, married November 23, 1938 also by her son Gary Allen.

Betty is survived by her children, Michael J. (Linda) Hess, Nicholas B. (Janice) Hess and Elizabeth L. (David) Aultman; grandchildren, Eric (Teresa) Hess, Aaron Hess, Andrea (Peter) Iverson, Jason Hess, Christine Hess, Laura (Kyle) Mowery, Lindsey (Brian) Moran, Neil (Marsha) Hess, Bill (Angie) Hess, Ted (Stacey) Hess, Joe (Gina) Hess, Matthew (Morgan) Aultman and Blake (Jalee) Aultman; many great grandchildren; as well as her ½ sister Vera Bollheimer and many nieces and nephews.

Deborah Jo "Debbie" Jackson, age 75, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Friday, June 3, 2016 at her residence.

She was born Wednesday, September 18, 1940 in Darke Co., OH, a daughter of Harold and Lois (Martin) French.

Debbie was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gene Jackson whom she married February 14, 1961 and her infant son, Mark Jackson.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Debbie loved to have fun and laugh.

In addition to her parents, Deborah is survived by two devoted sons, Douglas (Linda) Jackson of Arcanum, OH, and Michael Jackson of Greenville, OH; two grandchildren, Lucas Jackson of Canton, OH and Lane Jackson of Arcanum, OH; two brothers, Victor (Becky) French and Steve (Nina) French, both of Greenville, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bernice (Hughes) Leeper (June 3, 2016)

Bernice (Hughes) Leeper, age 87, of New Madison, OH, passed away, Friday, June 3, 2016 at her residence.

She was born Wednesday, January 16, 1929 in St. James, MO, a daughter of the late John and Eliza (Sellers) Hughes.

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Dale Leeper whom she married August 17, 1950; a grandchild, Ashley Leeper; a sister, Loraine Espy and two brothers, Bill Crain and Don Hughes.

Bernice loved to work with her hands. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and her flowers. She loved visits from her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really enjoyed when Bandit, her favorite Boston Terrier would come to visit. In her later years, she loved working at Wendy's in Greenville because she could mingle with the customers. Bernice loved going to church and getting involved and helping in all the church functions.

She is also survived by her children, FarrahLynn Beth Harris and Ryker Ray Harris both of Greenville; siblings, Bryant K. (Katy) Hoblit of Winchester, IN, Stephanie M. (Chris) Todero of Greenville, Ana M. (Chris) Kenworthy of Arcanum, Mickayla R. (Cody) Dickerson of West Milton, OH, Taylor N. Delk of Fairfield, OH, Frank Todero, Joseph Todero, Jennifer Thorp, Noel Todero, Alexandria Delk and Andrew Eastby; as well as numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Arcanum where she was involved with church volleyball and youth group. She loved softball and singing and was fun loving and outgoing.

Charles William Foreman

Charles William Foreman, age 87, of Palestine, OH, passed away, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at State of the Heart Hospice in Greenville.

He was born Monday, January 28, 1929 in Preble Co., OH, a son of the late Virgil and Marie (Crout) Foreman.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Unum, Reva Poling and Margaret Hoffman.

Charles was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ where he was a Deacon for many years. For over 20 years, he would make wooden toys for Toys For Tots. He was a farmer, plumber and owner of Acme Rural Sales in Palestine. Charles was a United States Army veteran. He enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest.

Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Yoder) Foreman, whom he married April 11, 1953; two sons, Michael (Paula) Foreman of New Madison, OH and Kevin Foreman of Arcanum, OH; two daughters, Kristy (Peter) Cutarelli of Greenville, OH and Lisa (Bradley) Miller of Palestine, OH; He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 8 step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Hiatt of Palestine, OH and Patty Jenkins of Centerville, IN; one brother, James (Betty) Foreman of New Madison, OH.

David R. Pohl age 46, of Versailles, Ohio passed away at 10:12 A.M. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. David was born March 13, 1970 in Greenville to Harold & Debra (Grilliot) Pohl of Versailles.

David was an executive at Pohl Transportation in Versailles. He was a 1988 graduate of Versailles High School and a 1991 graduate of Northwest Business College. David was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles where he was also a Communion Distributor. David was also an officer and board member of the Ohio Trucking Association and American Trucking Association. David was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Football fan and loved his family and work.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Leroy Sleppy, Sr., whom she married on July 21, 1945; son, Donald Sleppy; daughter in law, Diane Sleppy; brother and sister in law, Robert & Carolyn Wood; sisters, Nadine Clemens, Cora May Ward and Mary Gasper; grandsons, Brian Sleppy and Doug Sleppy; step granddaughter, Tonyia Chadwick; step great grandson, Austin Chadwick and son in law, John Eberhart.

Avo was a member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church and a lifetime member of the Greenville VFW and American Legion. She was a housewife and loved fishing and reading.

Thomas Lee Bromley, age 76, of Union City, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 1:40 PM at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana. He was born on February 15, 1940 in Kokomo, Indiana, to the late Lee & Virginia (Knipe) Bromley.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Hilbert) Bromley of Union City, Ohio, whom he married on June 12, 2004; step sons and daughter in law, Tim & Julie Lykins of Galveston, IN, Rick Lykins of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Herman Beanblossom Jr. of Winchester, IN; step daughter and son in law, Mary & Matt Hamilton of Loveland, OH; 4 step grandsons; 1 step granddaughter and 2 step great granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother John Bromley.

Tom was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Greenville, Ohio. He enjoyed playing golf and was a Pharmacist. During his career as a Pharmacist he worked at Hook’s Pharmacy in Indiana, Bonfiglio Pharmacy in Greenville and Arcanum and then worked at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Union City.

There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, 6688 Ludy Rd., Greenville, Ohio, with John O’Brien officiating. Jayallen Hale, age 74, of Greenville, OH, passed away, Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the State of the Heart Hospice Care Center.

He was born Sunday, February 15, 1942 in Troy, OH, a son of the late David and Margaret (Coppock) Hale.

In addition to his parents, Jayallen was preceded in death by his previous wife of 38 years, Sondra (Sutton) Hale; his son, Jason Hale, and an infant brother, Eugene Hale.

Jayallen had a curiosity toward all things and loved to figure out how things worked. He was a tinkerer and loved to work with his hands.

Jayallen is survived by his Wife, Ann Schlamb Hale, whom he married August 11, 2013; daughter, Shelley (Rick) Bohn of Greenville, OH; sons, Rodd (Brenda) Hale of Versailles, OH; and Anthony (Paula) Hale of Guyton, GA; daughters, Renee Hale of Greenville, OH, and Tammy Hale of Versailles, OH; and son, Matthew (Beth) Hale of Greenville, OH. He was also survived by five step-children, Steven (LeAnn) Schlamb of Monroe, OH, Catherine (Doug) Bertram of Arcanum, OH, Michael (Melissa) Schlamb of Greenville, OH, Chris (Tammy) Schlamb of Greenville, OH and Karla (Marc) Dieringer of Versailles, OH; and a sister, Linda (Bill) Alvey of Madison, OH; 28 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with 2 on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence (Hoblit) Magoto (May 28, 2016)

Florence (Hoblit) Magoto, age 94, departed this life on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 9:08 AM at Village Green Nursing Home. She was born June 6, 1921 in Greenville, Ohio, to the late Glenn R. and Gertrude (Townsend) Hoblit. She was the oldest of 10 children.

In 1940 she married Marion J. Magoto. They had one son Terry who died October 30, 1991. Her husband Marion died November 29, 1993. In addition to her parents, husband and son she was preceded in death by her brothers Bill, Donald, G.R., Jim and Fred and sister Patty Lou.

Florence was a 1939 graduate of Greenville High School, a member of the first Girl Scout Troop of Greenville and was retired from the Antique Business after 33 years with her last location known as the Red Barn Antique Shop in Greenville.

Her membership includes the Darke County Genealogical Society, the Pioneer Family of Darke County, and the Daughters of American Revolution and was a Past Regent of the DAR, the Naval Airship Assoc., the Darke County Nature Center and the Treaty Bicentennial Commission. She designed a mug and plate for the Treaty Bicentennial.

She donated the Lansdowne Memorial Monument (located on the grounds of the Garst Museum) and the Lansdowne Mural found in downtown Greenville. She was also responsible for getting the Birthplace of Zachary Lansdowne home on East Third Street placed on the National Historical Registry and having a sign placed at the corner of East Third and Locust Streets. She also donated a flag pole and a memorial stone at the old original cemetery at Abbottsville, also a flag pole and memorial stone at the old Pioneer Cemetery at Ft. Jefferson.

In doing research on the old Water Street Cemetery, she and a good friend Bea Campbell had the cemetery book updated on our early settlers and had the book reprinted with the added information. After 10 years of work, she was successful in retrieving many of the original stones from the cemetery and had them placed back in a Memorial Wall. She and Don Asman donated the flag pole found at the cemetery. On each Memorial Day she put flags in metal holders in memory of the soldiers buried in the Water Street Cemetery. Recently she came across a stone that had been missing for 159 years, having it replaced behind the stone wall in the cemetery. She also has donated numerous items to the Garst Museum as well as the local Library.

On February 6, 2002 she received the “Community Service Award” from the DAV and in 2006 was the recipient of the “Garst Heritage Award” from the Darke County Historical Society. She had also received a special award from the grandchildren of Zachary Lansdowne in 2005 at Ava, Ohio. She had been instrumental in keeping the GHS Class of 1939 together for monthly luncheons.

In 1933 she and 5 of her brothers and sisters were baptized at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. Ralph Jennings. She loved good music, particularly the Big Band sound, flowers, travel, having a good time and history of Greenville and Darke County.

Florence is survived by her sibling John D. & Bobbie Lou Hoblit of McBain, MI, Mary Ann (Hoblit) Preger of Greenville, and Nancy (Hoblit) & John J. Auer of Columbus, OH; dear friend and caregiver Brent Henninger of Arcanum, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Abbottsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rick Jones, age 69, of Ansonia, OH, passed away, Friday, May 27, 2016 at Wayne Healthcare in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born Monday, March 3, 1947 in Darke County, Ohio, a son of Paul and Betty (Pence) Jones of Versailles, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanna Jones, father and mother-in-law, Don and Evaline Myers, brother-in-laws, Gene and Jack Myers, Marcus Payne and Bruce Ritz, sister-in-law, Tina Myers, niece, Lori Williams and nephews, Joe Mills, Scott Myers, and Michael Brooks.

Rick was a 1965 graduate of Ansonia High School. After graduation, he worked for New Idea in Coldwater for three years. He also worked at the Royal Crest Dairy and then worked for 30 years at Le Roi Dresser in Sidney. In 2003, he opened Jones Driving School in Greenville, which was he proudest venture. He started with only two cars and himself and grew a successful business. The Jones Driving School now has six cars and several employees.

Through his life, Rick was involved in the Ansonia Jaycee's, Darke County Sherriff Patrol, Ansonia Swinging 8's, Darke County Muzzle Loaders, Annie Oakley Wings, Rose City Ventures, and the Ansonia Athletic Boosters.

Rick is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Donna Kay (Myers) Jones, whom he married July 2, 1967; son and daughter-law, Darrell (Erin) Jones, Ansonia, OH; grandchildren, Amanda Jones and Megan Jones; Deanna's boyfriend, Steve Hetzler of Piqua; sister, Kathy (Bruce) Brooks of Greenville, Ohio; sister-in-laws, Rita Myers of Arcanum, Sue Mills, Joan Ritz, Janet(Doug)Clemens, Mary(Bruce)Williams all of Greenville, Linda(Tom)Boyer of Versailles, Lisa(Kenny Rawlins)Payne of Grove City; brother-in-laws, Ron "Mose"(Willy Bruckner)Myers of Arcanum, John(Judy)Myers of Piqua, Roger(Beth Weaver)Myers of Greenville, Richard(Peggy)Myers of Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
