Irene Elizabeth Carpenter, age 80, of Moraine, OH, passed away, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:10 AM at Walnut Creek Nursing Center in Moraine, OH. She lived most of her life in Greenville, OH from 1955 to 2012.
She was born Tuesday, August 13, 1935 in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late Bunyan and Della (Brown) Day.
In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald James Carpenter, whom she married May 28, 1955; and her son-in-law, Daniel Mason Summers; and 5 of her 7 siblings.
Irene was a simple and wholesome woman who was dedicated to her family and friends, and a devoted member of her church. Many people knew her as "The Hat Lady". She was an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and her legacy lives on through them. She will be truly missed.
Irene is survived by three children, Pamela Summers of San Diego, CA, James (Susie) Carpenter of Dublin, OH and Christina Medrano of Moraine, OH; two grandchildren, Jerry Christopher Harrison of Colorado Springs, CO and Julia Christina Harrison of Fullerton, CA; a brother, Ronnie (Barbara) Day of Ashland, KY and a sister, Gayla Schultz of Austin, TX. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Esther Joslin of Tipp City, OH, and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville with Fr. John White officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Family and friends may visit Monday, June 27, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Oliver Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville.
