Ned J. Downing (June 26, 2013)

Ned J. Downing, 90, of Estero, Florida and formerly of New Madison, Ohio, passed away on June 26, 2013. Ned was born on November 14, 1922 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Jack and Miriam Mae (Horn) Downing.

Ned, along with his wife Mary Alice, owned and operated the Fort Black Buffet in New Madison, Ohio from 1968 until 1982. Ned faithfully served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a championship horseshoe pitcher, enjoyed racing horses and was a jockey. In his youth, he rode show horses. Ned was a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Free Masons, a member of the New Madison Masonic Lodge, was involved with the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Masonic Shriners.

Ned is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Alice Downing in 1997; two brothers, Richard Downing and his twin, Ted Downing.

Ned is survived by son and daughter in law, Dennis and Dawn Downing of Estero, Florida; a daughter, Linda J. Downing of Saranac, Michigan; two grandchildren, Deborah Downing and fiancé, Christopher K. Halbower of Wyoming, Michigan and Natalie J. and Travis Sinquefield of Byron Center, Michigan; two great grandchildren, Andrew P. and Emily E. Sinquefield; two nephews, Chris Willetts and Kim Willetts, both of New Madison, Ohio; and a niece, Sue VonAshen of Piqua, Ohio.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 am at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison, Ohio. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be held at Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison, Ohio. Full military honors will be presented by the Greenville Veterans Honor Guard and the New Madison Masonic Lodge will hold a lodge of sorrow just prior to services at the funeral home. Barbara K. Miller (June 22, 2013)

Barbara K. Miller 68, of Rossburg, Ohio, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at her residence with her family by her side.

She was born April 22, 1945 in Greenville, OH, daughter of Bonnie (Hiestand) Strait-Rutschilling of Greenville, OH, formally of Rossburg, OH and the late Gerald Keith Strait. In addition to her father Barbara, was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Funk.

Barbara was homemaker, a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church and had held the position of fiscal officer for the village of Rossburg, OH.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Miller; sons,Troy (Tina) Miller of Rossburg, Kerry (Tina) Miller of Kitty Hawk, NC; grandchildren, Madyson Miller, Mikeal Warren, Shelby and Miles Miller; sister-in-law, Sara (Jim) Fast of Celina, OH; and numerous nieces, newphews and friends.


Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, OH with the Rev. Ron Hoeksema officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Miriam K. Dull age 97, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 12:50 P.M. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. Miriam was born January 16, 1916 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Ira & Ida (Wehneman) Rhoades.

Miriam is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Dennis & Rose Dull of Greenville, Steve & Pam Dull of Greenville and David Dull & fiancée, LuAnn Ellerman on Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughters & son-in-law, Barbara & Mike Miller of Knoxville, Tennessee and Katherine Eardly & life partner, Alan Gribble of Zionsville, Indiana; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Miriam is also preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson L. Dull; son-in-law, Mark G. Eardly; and brother & sister-in-law, Luther & Mary Rhoades.

Miriam was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Covington, Ohio.

Ralph Wayne Henning age 66, of Ansonia, Ohio passed away at 6:20 P.M. on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his residence. Ralph was born April 16, 1947 in Darke County, Ohio to Mary E. (Shell) Lane of Ansonia and the late John Alvin Henning.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Sandra Lee (Sanders) Henning whom he married August 10, 1968; son, Chris Henning of Ansonia; daughter & son-in-law, Cathy & David Wolfe of Greenville; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers & sisters-in-law, Leonard & Robin Baker of Greenville and Allen & Lindsey Newbauer of Ansonia; sisters & brother-in-law, Mary & John Rismiller of Ansonia, Wilma Flack of Ansonia, Martha Everman of Ansonia, Bertha Archey of Belle Center and Dixie Gray of Greenville; brother-in-law, Chester Sanders of Springfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Ralph is also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Florence Baker; fathers-in-law, Leonard Sanders and Wilbur Baker; and grandparents, Alvin & Minnie Henning.

Ralph was retired. He was baptized into the Lutheran Church.

Tracy Lee Crawford, 27, of Greenville, Ohio, Passed away early Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Eaton, Ohio.

She was born March 31, 1986, in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of Charlene (Thomas) Rothen and the late Donald Crawford, Sr..

In addition to her father, Tracy was preceded in death by her daughter, Adahlyn Dyson and her grandparents, George and Helen (Matheny) Crawford.

She is survived by her son, Ashdon Dyson of New Madison, Ohio, mother, Charlene (Thomas) Rothen, of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Donald Crawford of Greenville, Ohio; a sister, Tina Thompson of Inwood, WV; Aunt and uncle, Florence and Steve Hoffman of Greenville, Ohio; special friends, Mike Dyson and Amanda Farley of New Madison, Ohio; cousins, Jason, Justin and Jessica Hoffman and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Joe Soley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery.

Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. Joseph was a retired Dairy Farmer. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, life member of the Versailles Knights of Columbus, member of the Disabled Veterans, member of Versailles Vets Club, former member of the Versailles School Board and former 4-H advisor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant and Rev. Fr. Carl Subler con celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with Military graveside services conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles. Marjorie L. Holsinger (June 19, 2013)

Marjorie L. Holsinger, age 79 of Greenville, Ohio, passed away June 19, 2013 at Heartland of Eaton where she was loved and cared for by all the staff for the last 18 months.

Marjorie was the eldest daughter of the late Rufus and Zaida (Boone) King. She was a member of The Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Palestine District. She and her husband owned and operated the Country Bread Bakery. Marjorie was a wonderful housewife.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralston; two sisters, Charlene (infant) and Mary Brunk and a brother-in-law, Elwyn Beachler.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 59 years, F. Leroy Holsinger; a daughter and two sons, Catherine and Donald Bowman of Rocky Mount, VA, Dennis and Maralee Holsinger of Goshen, Indiana and Roger and Colleen of Covington, KY; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Paul and Marcella King, Ralph Brunck, Beverly and Calvin Bowman, Louise Beachler, Marlene and Charles Brumbaugh, Ronald and Sue King, Connie and Marlyn Bowman, Rufus and Penny King.

Wanda M. Hunt, age 97 of Arcanum, Ohio passed away at 11:50 P.M. Wednesday June 19, 2013 in the Heartland of Greenville Nursing Home. Wanda was born April 13, 1916 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late Cornelius L. and Vernie E. (Van Scoyk) Schmidt.

She was a homemaker and had been employed at Fram Corp. of Greenville.

Wanda collected cups and saucers and raised parakeets.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Milford R. “Gabby” Hunt May 28, 1991. They were married May 31, 1940. Also her brothers Cornelius “Trappy” Schmidt, Floyd Schmidt, Charles “Chick” Schmidt, Marvin “Bob” Schmidt and James “Bimmy” Schmidt. Sisters Hazel Fry, Mildred Lane, Doris Nestor, Lee Cline, and infant sister Mabel Mae Schmidt.

Wanda is survived by sisters June Bergman of Galloway, Jean Longfellow of Greenville and Ruth Welbaum of Arcanum. Sisters in law Esther Schmidt and Kathy Schmidt of Greenville. Brother in law Bill Nestor of Englewood, Ohio. Also numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday June 24, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with the Chaplain Candy Null officiating. Clyde "Buddy" Edward Boomershine (June 16, 2013)

Clyde "Buddy" Edward Boomershine, 65, of Lynn, Indiana passed away on June 16, 2013 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. Buddy was born in Richmond, Indiana on April 17, 1948 to the late Clyde and Mildred (Baldwin) Boomershine.

Buddy worked at Huffy during his life and later retired from Champion Target in Richmond, Indiana. He was an avid fisherman and a back yard mechanic.

In addition to his parents, Buddy is preceded in death by brothers, Tom England and infant brother, Billy Junior.

Buddy is survived by is lovely wife, Lula Lee (Harris) Boomershine whom he married on June 8, 1968; daughters, Emily Boomershine Hutchings and Scott Hutchings of Richmond, LeAnne "Milly" and Dean Stiver of New Paris, Ohio, Diane and Roy Mangas of Union City, Indiana, Judy Boomershine of Winchester, Indiana, Pam Boomershine Yount of Union City, Indiana, Sharon and Jeremy Eyer of Lynn, Indiana, Lula "Shelly" and Mike Palmer of Greenville, Ohio and Liz Boomershine Root and Josh Root of Union City, Indiana; thirty five grandchildren, Justin, Ariel, David, Summer, Jason, Chris, Cody, Beth, Chris, Alex, Anthony, Sarah, Jordon, Katie, Tyler, Tanner, Abby, Sophia, Micheal, Ryan, Cory, Tommy, Mickinzie, Brookie, Brian, Josh, Joey, Jenna, Jakie, Jonathan, Ian, Charlie, Bobby, Vincent Clyde Edward and Lainey, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucille E. Stuck (June 17, 2013)

Lucille E. Stuck, age 97, formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was born on July 2, 1915 in German Township now Liberty Township, Darke County, Ohio, to the late Charles E. and Katie (Brinley) Wright.

She is survived by her daughter Betty E. Kingrey and grandson Ken Kingrey of Tampa, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Stuck, they were married 58 ½ years, also a baby son Danny Lee; grandson, David J. Kingrey, sister, Treva M. Charles; as well as nephews, Bobby and Dick Charles.

She was a member of the Coletown Congregational Christian Church and the Ladies Aid Society.

Mary Alice Melling (June 15, 2013)

Mary Alice Melling, age 76 of New Madison, Ohio passed away at 6:51 P.M. Saturday June 15, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. Mary Alice was born June 16, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio and the daughter of the late Pat and Alice (Reigle) Paro.

She with her husband Larry were partners of Larry’s Taxidermy of New Madison. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Greenville Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the V.F.W.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband Charles Norman; daughter April L. Norman and sister Geraldine Heidel.

Mary Alice is survived by her husband Larry A. Melling of New Madison. They were married August 1997. Also daughters Vicki (Douglas) Parker of Austin, Texas, Delores (Robert) Hoschouer of Trinity, N.C., Susan (Robert) Braun of Westerville and Doris (Joe) Ciarlo of Lewisburg. Step children Larry Joe Melling of Greenville, Melissa Melling of Greenville and Tammy McCaghren of Union, Ohio. Grandchildren Patricia Smith, Christopher Smith, Michelle Fitch, Michael Hoschouer, Christy Jones, Nicholas Braun, Nathan Swartz, Brandon Swartz, Emily Melling, Zachary Melling, Chelsea Welch, Sierra Welch, Jessica Vance, Andrew McCaghren and Matthew McCaghren. Eighteen great grandchildren and sisters Patsy Schneider and Kay Cranor.

Private Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Oak Grove Cemetery Ft. Jefferson, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Paulus whom she married on June 22, 1950; sisters, Mildred Sutter and Len Hartings; brothers, Ralph and Joe Sutter.

Clara was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church, sang in the church choir and a member of Daughters of Isabella. She worked at the bank in Coldwater for 40 years and then Buckeye Overall. She enjoyed reading books, ballroom dancing, weekly outings with friends, shopping & lunch with friends, bowling where she was the secretary of the league, playing cards once a week, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. David Vincent celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 5-7 PM as well as from 9-10 am on Wednesday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles, Ohio.

Phyllis “Elaine” Dohse (June 15, 2013)

Phyllis “Elaine” Dohse, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully Saturday June 15, 2013 at her residence. Elaine was born May 5, 1929 in Union City, Indiana and was the only child of the late Monroe and Virginia (Lephart) Puterbaugh.

Elaine will be remembered for her love of American history, her passion for democracy and her gift as a fine drapist and seamstress. She will be missed by her family and her faithful companion Katie Sue (her dog).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John T. Dohse January 30, 2010. They were married for 61 years.

She is survived by her five children and spouses: John “Fred” (Dede) Dohse of Aiken, S.C., James “Ted” Dohse of Orlando, Fla., Virginia (Kyle) Kagey of Greenville, Michael (Linda) Dohse of Spartanburg, S.C. and Christopher Dohse of Saugerties, N.Y. She was the proud grandmother of Andy Dohse, Becky McCarthy, Emily Oglesby, Amy Garrison, Molly McMullen, Ben Dohse and Ryan Dohse as well as great grandmother to 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday June 22, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Burial will follow in the Ansonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday 1 hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Polly A. Weaver, 87, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, June 15, 2013, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

She was born August 9, 1925 in Columbus, the daughter of the late Milton and Maize Plummer.

Polly was retired from the Greenville Public Library.

She is survived by her sons, Jim (Kay) Weaver and Dave Weaver both of Greenville; grandchildren, Diana Weaver, Brittany (Andrew) Pepiot, Lance (friend, Kristen Wells) Weaver; and, Beth Weaver (mother of Brittany) of Greenville.

Dorothea Mae Holland, age 83, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 5:15 PM at Heartland of Greenville, Greenville, Ohio. She was born on February 14, 1930 in Richmond, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Ruth (Eppse) Nickens.

She is survived by her daughters and son in law, Bonnie (Mark) McCown and Robin (Len) Baker both of Greenville, Ohio; son David Ford of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Jantzen Baker, Brittany Baker and Brie McCown; great grandchildren, Jaylen Baker and Maddie Baker; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dorothea was a homemaker and attended the Bethel Long Church in Longtown. She was a caring, devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother. Dorothea always thought she was blessed to have had the opportunity to be involved in the lives of her great granddaughters for 9 years. For many years she took an active role in her community special events and activities. Her infectious sense of humor and loving smile attracted many wonderful friends throughout her life.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Holland whom she married on July 9, 1949; sister, Betty Hinton and brother, Melvin Nickens.

There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 2:30 PM at Bass Cemetery, Darke County, Ohio, with Pastor Pam King officiating. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.

Gene Miller McMahan (June 13, 2013)

Gene Miller McMahan, age 84 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:15 P.M. Thursday June 13, 2013 at Heartland Nursing Home of Greenville, Ohio. He was born November 29, 1928 in Connersville, Indiana and the son of the late Neil and Augusta (Miller) McMahan.

Gene retired in 1991 from Mikesell Potato Chip Company of Dayton where he had been employed for 25 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy. Gene was a Life Member of the Greenville V.F.W., Greenville American Legion where he had served as Commander and had been very active with the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard. He was a graduate of the McGuffey High School Oxford, Ohio, a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, avid euchre player and a loving father, husband and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister in law Shirley McMahan and his aunt Dorothy Bohachek.

Gene is survived by his wife Elaine (Kimball) McMahan of Greenville. They were married February 25, 1950. Also daughters Gena (Bill) Fulmer of Mason, Ohio and Liz (John) Meyer of Fairfield, Ohio. His son Jeffrey McMahan of Los Angeles, CA. Grandchildren Alexa Fulmer, Cassie (David) Brown, Kelsey Meyer and Logan Meyer. Great grandson Spencer Brown. Brother Gerald McMahan of Hamilton and numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Sue Ann Foureman (June 13, 2013)

Sue Ann Foureman, age 76 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:36 P.M. Thursday June 13, 2013 at her residence. She was born April 29, 1937 in Darke County, Ohio and the daughter of the late J.E. and Orpha (Price) Sayers.

Sue, with her husband Gary, own and operated Foureman’s Sand and Gravel Company. Sue retired in 1998, as the secretary and bookkeeper for the company.

She was a longtime member of the Coletown Congregational Christian Church where she had served on many committees, but was currently attending the Stelvideo Christian Church. Sue was a 1955 graduate of Greenville High School. She loved bird watching on their family farm and animals of all kinds, raising many from birth so they would survive. Sue had a passion for her family and special friends and she opened their home many times to house and aid foster children. She served on the MMRD Board locally. Sue and Gary were snowbirds traveling to Florida for the winter months where they met many special friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Wilma Jean Hoffman.

Sue is survived by her husband Gary Foureman of Greenville. They were married January 28, 1956. Also daughters Linda (David) Dickinson of Mechanicsburg and Connie Stollar of Greenville. Sons John (Melissa) Foureman of Greenville and Paul (Maria) Foureman of Cleveland. Grandchildren Daniel (Jessica) Foureman, Katie (James) Light, Jennifer (Rob) Collins, Kendra Stollar, Rachel (Matt) Sullivan and Kacey Stollar; great grandchildren Larissa Foureman, Alexandria Foureman, Lydia Light and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday June 19, 2013 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Alan Arment officiating. William Owen, Sr. (June 11, 2013)

William Owen, Sr., 89, of Greenville, OH, passed away Tuesday evening, June 11, 2013, at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH.

He was born in Camden, Arkansas, son of the late Henry and Pertha (Stephens) Owen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Tony Owens and James Owens.

Bill had had an interesting life from playing on barnstorming baseball teams, which he was known as "#22", to attending Martin Luther King's funeral and walking next to Bobby Kennedy, to working for President Harry S. Truman for 3 years.

He had spent most of his time locally working for Ripp Family Farm near Union City and Wayne Detling Farm's in the Ansonia area. He was a member of the General Grand Masonic Congress 32nd Degree in Gary, IN, and 50 years in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of A.F. & A.M.

Bill is survived by his children, William (Kay) Owens, Jr. of Arcadelphia, Ark., Charlotte (Bobby) Neal of Arcadelphia, Ark., Verda Wilbon of Buffalo, NY; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Ida Mae Smith of Camden, Ark.; special friends, Louise Oswalt, Joyce Ripp and family, and Pam (Paul) Weaver; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway, Greenville, OH. with Bob Armstrong officiating.Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Alice M. (Heiser) Niswonger (June 4, 2013)

Alice M. (Heiser) Niswonger of Pompano Beach FL., formerly of Greenville and Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away at Holy Cross Hospital on June 4, 2013 at the age of 83.

She was born on January 19, 1930 in Darke County, Ohio a daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Trissel) Heiser. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Niswonger; son, Billy Joe Hollinger; brothers, Russell Glen Heiser, Lawrence Grant Heiser , Robert Heiser; sisters, Emmeline Holdeman, Martha Boise, and Margaret (Kate) Sargent.

Alice worked in retail grocery stores all her life until retirement. She graduated from Ansonia High School, Class of 1948. She loved her family, the beach, books, and loved to shop and eat out. She loved dogs, especially a black lab, Izzi.

Alice is survived by her loving daughter, Kay A. (Hollinger) Mote of Pompano Beach, FL. They have lived together in a condo on the beach for 12 wonderful years. Survived also by special nieces and nephews; Jim and Irma Heiser, carol and Terry Haworth, Barb and Gary Conrad; many other nieces and nephews and a special friend, Patrick Brown.

Richard Leo “Rick” Liette (June 5, 2013)

Richard Leo “Rick” Liette, Born November 23, 1954 and passed away on June 5, 2013. Richard passed away at his residence on the eve of June 5th. He was born “Ricky Leo Saintignon” to Melvin and Shirley (Fritz) Saintignon. After an accident claimed their lives, he was adopted by George and Delores “Lois” (Wourms) Liette who also preceded him in death.

Richard is survived by two brothers, Randall and Todd Liette; daughters, Aimee (Jesse) Eddy-Karns and Emily (Cory Simon) Liette; sons, Cary (Taris Harlow) Duncan and Adam (Amber Hart) Duncan; grandchildren, Austen Eddy, Taylor Eddy, Aric Schneider, Helena Kissinger, Zade Simon, Pierce Simon, Gideon Duncan and Audrey Duncan; in addition to his immediate family he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Verle Duane Sullenbarger (June 10, 2013)

Verle Duane Sullenbarger, 79, of New Paris, went to be with the lord on Monday, June 10,2013 at his residence. Verle was born August 25, 1933 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Vernon and Nellie"Louise"(Marshall)Sullenbarger.

Verle graduated from New Madison High School. After high school, Verle served our greatful country in the United States Army. He then retired from the Dana Corporation where he worked in the foundry. In his spare time he loved to fish and hunt. For many years, Verle, along with his two brothers were bee keepers and packaged and sold honey. Verle especially loved going to watch his great grandchildren play baseball.

Along with his parents, Verle is preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Brickler; brother Marshall"Bill"Sullenbarger; sister, Doris Jane Moore.

Jerry Lee Hittle, 62, of Union City, Ohio, passed away, Sunday, June 09, 2013 at Reid Hospital, Richmond, IN.

He was born November 30, 1950 in Greenville, Ohio, a son of Lewis “Jr.” and Betty (Elson) Hittle.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Lewis “Jr.” Hittle; sisters, Bonnie and Brenda Hittle, and Linda Gheen; 1 brother, Mike Hittle and a half brother Ron Hines.

He was a machinist and fabricator who retired from Whirlpool after 33 years of service. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, woodworking, NASCAR and Eldora Speedway.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Deborah (Fisher) Hittle, his mother Betty (Elson) Hittle; 3 children, Sheryl (Rick) Byron of Piqua, Ohio, Jason (Alli) Hittle of Rossburg, Ohio and Allison (Jonathan) Butler of Union City, IN; grandchildren, Coltin and Kaitlyn Byron, Kylie, Kelsey and Kaleb Hittle and Little Baby Butler on the way; sisters, Barb (Rick) Emans of Mendon, Ohio, Diane Hittle of Celina, Ohio, Sherry (Todd) Decker of Celina and a brother, Bob (Pat) Hittle of New Weston, Ohio.

James Edward Hiegel, age 83 of Montezuma, Ohio and formerly of Ansonia, Ohio passed away Sunday June 9, 2013.

Jim served 3 years in the Army in the Korean War as a paratrooper. He retired from the Ohio Highway Patrol and also from the Union City Body Company.

He is preceded in death by his mom and dad, Homer and Margaret (Bailey) Hiegel, his sister Marjorie Dynes, his brother Ward Hiegel and his granddaughter Marilyn Harless.

Jim is survived by 4 daughters: Sandra (Edward) Schott, Marjorie (Mark) Neeley, Rhonda Werner and Shelly (Rex) Fields, 1 son Randy Enicks and 3 brothers Walt, Keith and Tom Hiegel. He also enjoyed his 12 grandchildren and his 12 great grandchildren.

Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Richard retired from New Idea in Coldwater with 48 years of service. Richard was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star; Holy Name Society of the church and the North Star American Legion. Richard was an avid NASCAR fan and went many years to Daytona and loved going to Eldora Speedway.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Fr. David Zink celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery in North Star with Military graveside services conducted by the North Star American Legion. She is survived by her husband: Gale “Clarkie” Clark of Greenville whom she married April 25, 1954; her children & spouses: Amy & Chris Rudy of Greenville, Tammy & Scott Drew of Greenville, & Mark B. & Charise Clark of Redford, Michigan; grandchildren: Christine Rudy, Clark Rudy, Kalista King, Simeon King, Caden Clark, & Luke Clark; sister & brother in law: Linda & Sam Force of Gettysburg.

Services will be held on Monday June 10, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Greenville Missionary Church 1110 North Broadway, Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Gary Oser officiating. Mary Jane Brandon (June 3, 2013)

Mary Jane Brandon, 84, of Greenville,Ohio passed away Monday afternoon,June 3, 2013 at her residence.

She was born June 6, 1928 in Greenville, OH daughter of the late Thomas R. Sr. and Ruby E. (Shumaker) Hunt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anthony Brandon in February 27, 2001; sisters, Joan Boyd, Martha L. Hunt, Mary Jane Hunt ; brothers, Henry, Eugene, James, and Thomas Hunt,Jr.

Jane was a loving mother and grandmother and an avid bowler. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Rosary Altar Society.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Kathy) Brandon, Michael (Wanda) Brandon, Beckie (Dick) Shumaker, Kitty (Frank) Mogle all of Greenville, Marty (Jim) Beaver of Marion, OH; grandchildren, Travis (Jeff) Jarvis,Sean (April) Shumaker, Jody (Toby) Henderson, Tiffany (Bill) Slade, Jennifer Weyant, Ashley Mogle, Nichole Brandon, Sara Brandon, Molly Levings, Emily Beaver, Brandon (Jena) Beaver; great grandchildren, Joshua and Jenna Javis, Dylan and Ethan Shumaker, Addison, Avery and Ansley Henderson, Blake Weyant, Logan Levings, Mackenzie and Alexis Slade; brother, David (Pat) Hunt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville, OH with Fr. John White celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Carl E. White (June 1, 2013)

Carl E. White, 58, of Fort Wayne, IN went to be with his Lord on June 1, 2013 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Formerly of Greenville, OH Carl was born Oct. 21, 1954. He graduated from Tri-Village High School in 1973 and attended Fort Wayne, Bible College.

Carl married Anita Hicks on June 29, 1974; they were married for nearly 39 years.

Carl worked for 20 years as a Branch Manager/Senior Lease Sales Representative in the Fort Wayne market for Palmer Leasing Group. He was the only leasing employee at the Fort Wayne location and was instrumental in their growth which now includes two facility locations, 158 trucks on lease and 17 employees. Carl has received the President’s Award Circle designation several times and under his guidance, the Fort Wayne location was awarded the PacLease Franchise of the Year for North America.

Carl enjoyed Major League Baseball, especially the Cincinnati Reds. He was actively involved at Avalon Missionary Church where he enjoyed leading worship for a number of years as well as teaching adult Sunday School classes. He gave leadership to the Upward Sports ministry and was involved in Bible quizzing.

Carl will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Anita; his children, Joshua (Carolyn) of Silver City, NM; Aaron (Kara) of Wrightstown, NJ; Sarah White and Ruth White both of Fort Wayne; his grandchildren, Elijah and Ryanne of NM and Adeline and Ethan of NJ. He is also survived by his father H. Dean White of Greenville, OH; a brother, Dean (Ann) White of Greenville, OH; sisters, Debi (Dan) Pugh of Butler, IN and Carol (Rod) Paul of Greenville, OH; a sister-in-law, Alaine White Dunn also of Greenville, OH. He is survived as well by his father and mother-in-law, Keith and Arlene Hicks of New Paris, OH along with extended family members and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene White and his brother, Greg White.

The funeral service will be held at Avalon Missionary Church in Fort Wayne, IN with Keith Koteskey officiating, on Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be at Avalon on Wednesday, June 5 from 2-4 PM and 5-8 PM.

Eldon Leon Miller (May 31, 2013)

Eldon Leon Miller age 77, of The Villages, Florida and formerly of Gettysburg, Ohio passed away at 4:35 P.M. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, Florida. Eldon was born June 7, 1935 in Gettysburg, Ohio to the late Millard & Miriam (Sanderson) Miller.

Eldon is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Ferrey) Miller whom he married January 20, 2005; a brother & sister-in-law, Merlin & Maxine Miller of Bradford, Ohio; a sister & brother-in-law, Janice & Omer Holsapple of Bradford, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eldon received his BS Degree at Manchester College, MA Degree at Miami University and PHD at New Mexico State. Eldon taught and coached at Gettysburg, Westmont and Greenville Schools. Eldon was the Dean of Students at Mountain View College in Dallas, Texas and Professor in the PHD Program at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado and was instrumental in helping with the setup of Community Colleges on Indian Reservations. Eldon was involved in the American Council on Education and Council on Indian Affairs in Washington D.C. Eldon retired in 2000 as President of West Virginia University in Parkersburg, West Virginia with 18 years of service.

John R. “Jack” Ryan (June 2, 2013)

John R. “Jack” Ryan age 84, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 8:30 A.M. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. John was born April 28, 1929 in Union City, Indiana to the late John & Ethel (Lawlor) Ryan.

John is survived by his wife, Darlene (Gribler) Ryan whom he married April 4, 1985; son, Patrick Ryan of Florida; daughter, Kimberlee Autry of Florida; step children, Rodney & Cheryl Jay of Greenville, Victoria & Robert Warner of Greenville, Lynda & Sam Ogle of Kokomo, Indiana, Tamy & Ray Forbey of Troy and Ted Jay of Greenville; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Ryan of Texas; sister, Mary Jean Sharp of Indianapolis, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John is also preceded in death by a son, Sean Ryan; brother, Jerald Ryan; and a sister, Helen Curtner.

John is retired from auto sales. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion and the V.F.W. in Union City, Indiana.

Eleanor L. “Ellie” Stocksdale Wilson (May 31, 2013)

Eleanor L. “Ellie” Stocksdale Wilson age 79, of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 10:45 P.M. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. Ellie was born September 25, 1933 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Glen W. & Ethel (Barnhart) Stocksdale.

Ellie is survived by her companion of over 55 years, James H. Wilson of Greenville; son, Dennis J. Wilson of Greenville; daughter, Lynne A. Wilson of Greenville; grandchildren, Michael & Heather Wilson of St. Marys and Kristy Wilson of Dayton; great-grandchildren, Preston, Parker and Peyton Wilson; brothers & sisters-in-law, Donald L. & Pat Stocksdale of Union City, Indiana, Eugene H. & Jo Anne Stocksdale of Greenville, Vaughn F. & Diane Stocksdale of Columbus and Jesse E. & Connie Stocksdale of Union City, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellie is also preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Wilson.

Ellie was the secretary of the Ohio State Tractor Pullers Association and bookkeeper for her family business, Wilson Brothers Livestock and Peoples Exchange in Greenville. Ellie was a former member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren. She loved flowers, gardening, crafts and spending time with her family.
