Floyd (Bear) Pitsenbarger (January 2, 2017)

Floyd (Bear) Pitsenbarger, of Versailles, Ohio, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 5, 1931, the third of five children in Versailles, Ohio, to the late Elmer and Emma (Hauschild) Pitsenbarger. He married Janet L. Berger on April 24, 1954, and they had six children. Floyd is survived by his wife, son, Jeff and Linda Pitsenbarger of Versailles; daughters, Polly Jo of Fort Worth, TX, Julie and Rod Boring of Versailles, Mindy and Brian Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Patti and Clay Miller of New Baltimore, Michigan, and Peggi and Mark Richard of Versailles; and sisters, Dorthabel and Gene Fox of Englewood, Ohio, Evelyn and the late Merle Selander of Versailles, Phyllis and Jerry Oliver of Versailles, and Janet and Howard Rehmert of Versailles.

Bear was very proud of his family and his 20 grandchildren, Justin, Greta, Andy, Alex, Mark, Kami, Ashly, Kyle, Zac, Kara, Bailey, Jon, Roxanne, Maddison, Emily, Dominic, Damien, McKinzie, Cameron, and Noah. He also has 14 great-grandchildren: Harrison, Gavin, Cannon, Quintin, Callie, Finley, Beckett, Gabriel, Henry, William, Samuel, Cecilia, Meredith and three on the way to be born in 2017.

Floyd graduated from Versailles High School in 1949. He was member of the Ohio National Guard and was called to active duty in the U.S. Army in 1951 where he was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He served a total of three years and four active duty months. He was employed by the Poultry Producers from 1948 until it closed in 1974. He also worked at the Versailles High School, Argosy, Clopay and Excello. In 1979 he began working for Gene Meyer’s Trucking until he retired in 2005.

He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department from 1964 through 1978. He was a member of the Versailles F.O.E. and Vets Club. He also served on the Versailles Village Council from 1965-1969.

Floyd enjoyed living in Versailles and visiting will all of his friends at local sporting events and restaurants as well as his frequent leisurely travels about town. Floyd also enjoyed his 85th birthday this past October with his family and friends celebrating at the Sweet Shop at 4:30 AM!—his favorite time of day.

Floyd was preceded in death by his grandson, Zac Richard, who was born on January 2. Floyd joined him in heaven on Zac’s birthday.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6th, 2017, at Bailey-Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Martin Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Versailles with Military Honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. Visitations for family and friends will be from 4-8:00 pm on Thursday, January 5th, 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to the Versailles Emergency Medical Services, Versailles Fire Department or Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard.
