He his preceded in death by his late father Paul Kirkpatrick of Greenville, OH.

After graduating from Greenville Senior High School, followed by a few years of travelling the country, Phil joined Corning Glass where he worked as a skilled machinist for 29 years until he retired in 2002. He was currently employed with Crown Industries in Celina, Ohio.

Phil was a quiet and humble husband, father, grandfather and friend, who loved his family and friends dearly. An avid chess player, Phil was a member of the United States Chess Federation and competed in numerous tournaments across the Midwest. He introduced, with much patience, the game to his grandchildren and always had a board set up, ready for a match.

In his younger years, Phil's dedication to boy scouts and his pursuit of earning the Eagle Scout badge, cultivated his interest in camping. Combined with his enjoyment of traveling, Phil enjoyed many road trips throughout the country, where most nights were spent in campsites. He enjoyed traveling the road, a reflection of his simple, laid back pace of life. As his years progressed, the planning of a trip became as much of a highlight as the actual travel.

In the summer months, Phil could be found in his backyard, tending to his beautiful garden. A seasoned green thumb, Phil eagerly anticipated each growing season - planning the upcoming plant collection, plotting the garden beds and starting seedlings indoors. Like many of his hobbies, Phil shared this with his grandchildren, always encouraging of the many eager little helping hands.
