Thomas E. Subler age 82, of Versailles passed away at 1:20 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Tom was born February 14, 1936, in Versailles to the late Carl J. & Pauline (Barga) Subler. In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by a son, Curt Subler; brothers, Steve Subler and Denis L. Subler; and brother-in-law, Hal Richters.
Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy L. (Preto) Subler whom he married January 28, 1961; son & daughter-in-law, Todd & Annette Subler of Tipp City; daughter & son-in-law, Julie & Darren Wick of Ashland; grandchildren, Logan & Eric Hochstetler, Lauren Subler, Claire Subler, Austin Subler, Jackson Subler, Carlie Subler, Tanner Wick, Tate Wick and Ty Wick; brother & sister-in-law, Mark & Jolene Subler of Richmond, Virginia; sisters & brothers-in-law, Marilyn Richters of Versailles, Kay & Darryl Sandri of Piqua and Linda & Chuck Borchers of Cincinnati; sisters-in-law, Charlene Subler of Valrico, Florida and Nancy A. Subler of Versailles; step-mother, Krista Subler-Boellke of Bradford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958. A pioneer in the transportation industry, he served as president of Carl Subler Trucking Inc. and retired from Heartland Express. He had a particular interest in transportation safety. Tom cherished the many friendships he built throughout the industry during his 50 year transportation career. He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles and a charter member of the Versailles Lions Club.
Tom’s passions were tending to his yard and flowers; supporting his country and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and Nancy, his teammate and wife.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Carl Subler celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with full military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
