John was born December 10, 1931, in Darke County to the late Robert L. & Esther N. (Burkett) Grillot. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by a brother, David Grillot.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ellen C. (Pleiman) Grillot whom he married September 1, 1955; children, John C. & Lori Grillot of Sidney, Gary Grillot of Russia, Pat & Yukari Grillot of San Jose, California, and Kathy & Mat Van Etten of Covington; grandchildren, Jason Grillot, Jeff Grillot, Brian Grillot, Nicole Minnich and Abby Ball; 13 great-grandchildren; brother & sister-in-law, Robert & Jean Grillot of Covington; sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Laverne Homan of Coldwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Elson Ford of Versailles and Sidney where he was the parts and service manager. John was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles. He was a very active member of the Versailles American Legion and V.F.W. where he served as record-keeper. John was an active member of the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 8, 2018, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Jim Duell celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery in Versailles with military honors conducted by the Versailles Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
