Donald J. Miniard (April 2, 1949 - April 29, 2009)

Donald "Pap" J. Miniard, 60, of West Manchester died Wednesday April 29, 2009 at Heartland of Greenville after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Miniard was born April 2, 1949 in Perry County, Kentucky, son of the late Burley Miniard and Lena (Bubnick) who survives. Donald was a heavy equipment operator for the Jurgensen, Miller Brothers, & Mt. Pleasant Black Topping. Mr. Miniard was a 30 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Donald was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a Bass Pro Fisherman. Pap was a loving husband, Father, Grandfather, & Brother. He was preceded in death by his brother Dale Miniard. Donald is survived by his wife Patricia Isaacs Miniard, whom he married on February 14, 1970; sons Donald (Rhonda) Miniard, Jr. of Greenville and Robert Daniels of Hollansburg; 7 Grandchildren Mikey, Courtney, Jessica, Nick, Jeramie, Jack, and Zack; 3 sisters Helen Caldwell of Centerville, Shirley (Michael) Mantell of Florida, and Janette (Bill) Noggle of Greenville; brother Bill Miniard of Wooton, KY. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday May 2, 2009 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Pastor John Wiltshire officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Trotwood. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home 2 hours before the service Saturday.

Richard L. Shiverdecker (April 28, 2009)

Richard L. Shiverdecker, 82, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.

He was born in Greenville, the son of the late Melvin R. Shiverdecker and Carrie Mae (Gibson) Shiverdecker-Young. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Martin) Shiverdecker on February 16, 2004; a brother, Robert Shiverdecker; a sister Janet Slaven; an infant sister; a step brother, Robert Martin; and a step sister, Martha Henninger.

He was retired from American Aggregate in Greenville. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Robert) Miller of Greenville; Jill Peters (Fiance, D. Scott Lee) of Harriman, Tennessee; Pamela (Alan) Cole of Greenville; and Jon E. (Jean) Shiverdecker of Greenville; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday May 1, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Chaplain Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, April 30 from 5-8 p.m. Family requests memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice and The Brethren Retirement Community.

Frederick Lynn Feitshans (September 12, 1941 - April 26, 2009)

Frederick Lynn Feitshans, 67, of Arcanum, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 26, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Feitshans was born in Darke County on September 12, 1941, the son of the late Harold K. and Gladys Marie (Welbaum) Feitshans who survives. He was a member of West Grove United Church of Christ.

Fred was a former member of the Pitsburg Lions Club, a member of the F-M Little League Hall of Fame and a member of the P.P. & G. morning men's club. He was a lifelong Monroe Township farmer. Mr. Feitshans was a Printer at McCall Printing, Dayton for 22 years, and Central Printing for 20 years retiring in 2004. He enjoyed coaching F-M Little League and F-M Youth Basketball for many years and loved and enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in all of their activities.

Fred was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, horse racing, golf and liked spending time with his whole family.

He is survived by his wife Linda Kay (Dershem) Feitshans whom he married June 15, 1963; son Michael L. Feitshans and wife Carrie of Arcanum; daughters Kimberly K. Kimmel and husband Scott of New Madison and Kelly S. Fourman and husband David of Arcanum; Grandchildren Nathan L. Feitshans and Travis S. Feitshans, Cameron S. Kimmel, Brandy S. Fourman, Devin M. F. Fourman; Mother Gladys Marie Feitshans Hines; Brother Robert L. Feitshans and wife Joyce of Arcanum; loving Mother-in-law Irene Dershem; and Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Lehman officiating. Burial will follow in Mote Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday 4 - 8 PM at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum. The family suggests memorial contributions to Pitsburg Fire Dept., Arcanum Community Rescue Service and Grace United Methodist Church.

Howard Richard O'Dell (May 22, 1915 - April 24, 2009)

Howard R. O’Dell, 93, of Hollansburg, Ohio, passed away at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio, Friday, April 24, 2009. Howard was born May 22, 1915 to the late J. Warren and Cora Mae(Snyder) O’Dell.

Howard worked as a shipping clerk for St. Regis Plastic Company and retired from Atlas Plastics. He also farmed his whole life and enjoyed raising the biggest garden around. Howard was an avid fisherman and hunter and most of all loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Palestine Church of Christ in Palestine, Ohio.

Howard is survived by two sons, George and wife Kathy O’Dell of Greenville and Larry and wife Sharon O’Dell of Hollansburg; two daughters, Nancy and husband Bob Dill of Hollansburg and Mary Ann and husband Kent Webb of Richmond, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and special friends Maxine & Carl Hays

In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Ruth O’dell who passed away on March 23, 2008 and a daughter Ann Marie.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Palestine Church of Christ with the Rev. Mike Simmons being asked to officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before the service also at the church. Burial will follow in the Greenmound Cemetery. Family request memorial contributions be made to the Palestine Church of Christ.

Larry Myers (August 2, 1944 - April 22, 2009)

Larry M. Myers, 64, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Marcy 22, 2009. Larry was born in Greenville on August 2, 1944 to the late Marion and Gladys (Shoemaker) Myers.

Larry worked as a purchasing manager at the Diester Concentrator in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for many years and he bartended at the Eagles #248 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He was a member of the Eagles #248 and a former member of the Moose Lodge # 329 in Greenville, Ohio. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife Marla (Griffith) Myers whom he married on May 8, 1993; two step children, Allegra Ray of Keller, Texas and Brent and wife Angie Ray of Miamisburg, Ohio; two daughters Hope Quinn of Greenville, Ohio and Joy and husband John Rubel of Flowery Branch Goergia; a sister Beverly (Myers) Downey; a brother-in-law Ed Kagey of Bath Michagan; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by a sister Sharon Kagey.

Services will be held at the convenance of the family with the Rev. Eric Fee being asked to officiate.

Ruth Eileen Falknor (November 23, 1934 - April 23, 2009)

Ruth E. Falknor, 74, of New Madison, passed away unexpectedly at the Reid Hospital in Richmond, Indiana on April 23, 2009. Ruth was born November 23, 1934 to the late Raymond C. and Mabel (Stump) Campbell.

Ruth worked at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio and was a member of the Ft. Jefferson United Methodist and the New Madison United Methodist Churches. She was also a member of the Tri Village Alumni Association, the New Madison Sesqui Centennial Committee and the Tri Village School Building Committee. Ruth enjoyed working with her flowers and spending time with family most of all her grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim Falknor of New Madison whom she married August 1, 1953; two sons, Chris Falknor of Kettering, Ohio and Kirk And wife Becky Falknor of Bowling Green, Ohio; five grandchildren, Nathan, Claire, Jessi, Brandon and wife Melissa, and Casey Falknor; and one great granddaughter, Shelby Falknor; one sister Karen and husband Steve Werner of Clarkston, Michigan. In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Campbell.

A private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Greenmound Cemetery with the Rev, Doug Baker being asked to officiate. Family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the

Ronald E. Mitchell (April 22, 2009)

Ronald E. Mitchell, 71, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2009 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.

He was born in Darke County, son of the late Earl and Norma (Van Scoyk) Mitchell.

Ron retired as a heavy equipment operator for Local #18 after 42 years. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, the Elk's, Eagles and American Legion all in Greenville.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara (Hines) Mitchell whom he married on May 23, 1964; his children, Debbie (Michael) Wolford of Las Vegas, NV and David (Holly) Mitchell of St. Mary's, OH; granddaughter, Brittany Wolford; an aunt, Mary Mitchell of Greenville; brothers-in-laws, Roger (Barbara) Hines of Texas, Ned (Barbara) Hines of Arizona and Robert (Saundra) Hines of Greenville; and numerous cousins.

Private services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Joseph Payne officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.

There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.
