Richard L. Shiverdecker, 82, of Greenville, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.
He was born in Greenville, the son of the late Melvin R. Shiverdecker and Carrie Mae (Gibson) Shiverdecker-Young. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Martin) Shiverdecker on February 16, 2004; a brother, Robert Shiverdecker; a sister Janet Slaven; an infant sister; a step brother, Robert Martin; and a step sister, Martha Henninger.
He was retired from American Aggregate in Greenville. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville.
He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Robert) Miller of Greenville; Jill Peters (Fiance, D. Scott Lee) of Harriman, Tennessee; Pamela (Alan) Cole of Greenville; and Jon E. (Jean) Shiverdecker of Greenville; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday May 1, at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Chaplain Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, April 30 from 5-8 p.m. Family requests memorial contributions be given to State of the Heart Hospice and The Brethren Retirement Community.
