Ronald E. Mitchell, 71, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 22, 2009 at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.
He was born in Darke County, son of the late Earl and Norma (Van Scoyk) Mitchell.
Ron retired as a heavy equipment operator for Local #18 after 42 years. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, the Elk's, Eagles and American Legion all in Greenville.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara (Hines) Mitchell whom he married on May 23, 1964; his children, Debbie (Michael) Wolford of Las Vegas, NV and David (Holly) Mitchell of St. Mary's, OH; granddaughter, Brittany Wolford; an aunt, Mary Mitchell of Greenville; brothers-in-laws, Roger (Barbara) Hines of Texas, Ned (Barbara) Hines of Arizona and Robert (Saundra) Hines of Greenville; and numerous cousins.
Private services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Joseph Payne officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Greenville Cemetery.
There will be no public visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.
