Carl Ray “Hoppy” Schrader age 70 of Versailles, Ohio, passed away at 3:40 P.M. on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville. He had been ill a short time. Hoppy was born August 28, 1940 in Darke County to the late Ray William & Grace (Dickey) Schrader.
Hoppy was a graduate of Versailles High School, Class of 1958. He had been a poultry sexor by trade before his retirement, and was associated with the Glen Hansey Sexing Service in Versailles for many years. Hoppy was a great fan of Versailles Tiger football in earlier years. He cheered for the Browns and the Buckeyes. He was an avid card player and enjoyed hunting squirrel. Hoppy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Versailles; Versailles Eagles and the Versailles V.F.W.
In addition to his parents, Hoppy is also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Schrader in 1938.
Hoppy is survived by his wife, Diane (Dunkel) Schrader whom he married August 24, 1963. Hoppy and Diane owned and operated “Hoppy’s” C & J Café in Versailles from 1983 to 1988. Hoppy is also survived by sons, Tom Schrader of Versailles and Kevin Schrader of Sidney; daughter, Michelle (Mark) Prior of Versailles; and sisters, Thelma (Harold) Schultz of Versailles and Lucille (Hubert) Fellers of Greenville. Carl’s wish was to be cremated.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Laura Shreffler officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
