Bill D. Williams age 87, of Greenville, Ohio, & formerly of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away at 1:11 A.M. on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio. Bill was born September 30, 1924 in Piqua, Ohio, to the late Charles & Margaret (Alexander) Williams.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Warner) Williams whom he married January 24, 2004; sons, Scott and Pat; step children, Linda Suter, Keith Bellor, Kent Markham; grandchildren, Laura Specht and husband, Andrew, Nick Williams, Melissa Williams and husband, Matthew, Bryan Williams, Peter Williams and Andrew Williams; great granddaughter, Bella Kay Specht; and step grandchildren, Matthew Suter, Jennifer Suter, Cody Markham, Karly Markham and Kaden Markham.
In addition to his parents, Bill is also preceded in death by his 1st wife, Jean C. (Longendelpher) Williams on August 27, 2002; son, Daniel Williams; daughter-in-law, Janet Williams; and a grandson, Benjamin.
Bill was a 1942 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He attended Miami University. Bill served in the 8th Air Force in WWII as a Radar Bombardier on B17’s in England. Bill was Vice President and Sales Manager of Drew Shoe Company in Lancaster, Ohio, from 1950 to 1985 with 35 years of service. Bill was part owner of Fashion Shoe Store in Greenville, Ohio, in the 1950’s. Bill was active in the Chamber of Commerce in Greenville, Ohio, in the 1950’s and the United Way in Greenville and Lancaster. Bill was Past Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville, Ohio, and very active in the Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, Ohio. Bill was Past President of the Shoe Travelers of Ohio. Bill was an avid golfer and active member of both Greenville and Lancaster Country Clubs.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Dr. John Person officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Covington, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Greenville Veteran’s Honor Guard.
