Margaret Alice Thomas-Lumpkin, 93, of Greenville, passed away on December 14, 2013 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. Margaret was born on August 4, 1920 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Raymond and Hazel (Moore) Brinley.
Margaret was a graduate of Palestine High School, where she played basketball. Margaret was a homemaker and farmer’s wife her whole life raising cattle, pigs and various other farm animals. She loved the farm life and was very active in her children’s 4-H projects at the Darke County Fair and Ohio State Fair. Margaret was a member of the Hollansburg Christian Church and was formerly on the Board of Directors. She also worked at the Hamburger Shoppe in Greenville, the Meguiar Cannery of Glen Karn and The Glen Karn Poultry Co. Margaret was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Hollansburg. Margaret enjoyed working in her yard and garden when she was able. She also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Karl H. Thomas who passed away in April of 1984; her second husband, Raymond Lumpkin; a daughter, Marcia Bruner; a daughter in law, Sandy Thomas; three brothers and three sisters.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Ronald Thomas of New Madison, Jerry and Dalene Thomas of Greenville and Mark Thomas of Hollansburg; son-in-law, Rick Bruner of Arcanum; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Lowell Brinley of Greenville.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hollansburg Christian Church on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Joe Hanna officiating. Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 5-7 PM also at Braund Pope Funeral Home in New Madison. Burial will follow in the Hollansburg Cemetery. The family request memorial contributions are given to the Hollansburg American Legion or the donor’s choice, with donations being accepted at the service.
