Maryalice Brewer, age 81 passed away Monday, May 4 at 7:45 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community where she had been a resident since 2010. Maryalice was born January 8, 1934, the second of 4 children born to Omer & Beatrice (Lindamood) Wilson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Don, an infant brother Franklin, her brother Bob, sister-in-law & husband Isabelle & Glenn Fourman and sister-in-law Bea Landreth.
Maryalice met future husband Don when he came to Palestine and played drums in the Greenville Community Band which was performing an evening concert. Maryalice and Don were married in July 1952 just a month after she graduated from Palestine High School. They settled in Palestine and eventually bought the house next door to her parents. They were the proud parents of 4 children: Rick, Dave, Scott and Melody. Don and Maryalice had 9 grandchildren and there are 12 great-grandchildren. Don passed away in February 2008.
Maryalice was always active in her community & county. Maryalice worked over 30 years at Fram. She was elected the Clerk of Liberty Township and held that office for over thirty years. While clerk she was elected the secretary of the Darke County Township Association. Maryalice always had a love for quilts and was a member of the Towne Squares Quilt Club. She operated “Pap and Granny’s Quilt Shop” in Palestine from 1993 till closing in 2006.
Above all, family meant much to Maryalice. She came to almost every ballgame in which her children and grandchildren played. She attended concerts, operas, plays, banquets, award ceremonies and retirement parties.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Rick & Kathy (Stone) Brewer, Dave & Kim (Foreman) Brewer and Scott & Tami (Foreman) Brewer, and by daughter and son-in-law Melody & Bill Overfield. Grandchildren are Elizabeth Brewer, Mary Kathryn Brewer, Chris (Mattie) Brewer, Ashley (Nate) Beam, Amy (Tom) Farmer, Jason (Amanda) Brewer, Amber (Alan) Harsh, Jeff (Julie) Overfield and Addie (Derrick) Mikesell. Great-grandchildren are Karlee Farmer, Macy Thompson, Reagan, Lyla, Wilson, Grady, and Annie Brewer, Nora, Grace and Claire Harsh and Jaxen and Jace Overfield. Maryalice is further survived by brothers Bill (Josephine) Wilson and Dan (Beverly) Wilson, sister-in-law Mary Esther Wilson and brother-in-law Paul Landreth. There are many nieces, nephews, cousins and special family friend Von Oswalt who will miss Maryalice.
Funeral services for Maryalice will be held at 10:30 A. M. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Palestine Church of Christ in Palestine, Ohio with the Rev. Mike Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 till 8 P. M. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville.
