Luther L. “Squeek” Strobel age 75, of North Star, Ohio passed away at 5:15 A.M. on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his residence. Luther was born September 7, 1940 in Gettysburg, Ohio to the late Louis H. & Izora V. (Bashore) Strobel.
Luther is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy A. (Groff) Strobel whom he married June 27, 1964; daughters & sons-in-law, LeAnn & Chuck Heitkamp of North Star and Amy & John Bey of Versailles; grandchildren, Kate & Jamie Phlipot, Andrew Heitkamp, Kristin Heitkamp, Brian Heitkamp, Hannah Bey and Mitchell Bey; great-granddaughter, Adalae Phlipot; brother, Carl Strobel of Greenville; sisters, Florence Beaver of Beavercreek and Mary Louise Hamilton of Greenville; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Ron & Kay Groff of North Star, John & Jane Groff of North Star, Bob & Jane Groff of St. Louis, Missouri, Peg & Urban Clune of St. Henry, Elaine & Jerry Singer of New Weston, Roger & Sandy Groff of Sharpsburg and Fred & Linda Groff of Versailles; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Luther was also preceded in death by a brother, Lewis “Hank” Strobel; brothers-in-law, Paul Beaver and Eldean Hamilton; and sisters-in-law, Marge Strobel and Betty Strobel.
Luther served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the maintenance department at New Idea in Coldwater for 34 years. Luther was a member of the USS Toledo CA-133 Association and the National Rifle Association.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Fr. David Zink celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery in North Star with Military Honors conducted by the North Star Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles and Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the church.
