She was born on March 30, 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Albert and Anges (Bigelow) Lybarger.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Thompson, whom she married on March 23, 1957; and her son, Ned Thompson.
Shirley grew up in Van Wert County, Ohio, and was a 1955 graduate of Convoy-Union High School, along with her future husband, Marlin Thompson. Shirley worked at Van Wert National Bank as Marlin worked toward his teaching degree at Bowling Green State University. They lived in Grover Hill, Ohio, in Paulding County for several years as Marlin started his teaching career and then moved to Ansonia where they raised their family. Shirley was a resident of Ansonia for over fifty years. She was an active member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church, serving on the Church's Outreach Committee and food pantry for many years. Shirley was a very giving person and a good friend to many. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Jill (Andy) Ulrich of Whitehouse, Ohio, and two grandsons Kyle (Kari) Thompson and Justin Thompson, both from Greenville, Ohio.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Ansonia United Methodist Church, 200 West High Street, Ansonia, Ohio, with Pastor Roger Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.
Shirley's family will be receiving guests on Friday, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
