Mildred C. Scammahorn, age 97, of Bradford, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 1:55 PM at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville, Ohio. She was born on October 29, 1914 in Darke County, Ohio, to the late Beecher & Emelie (Root) Williamson.
Mildred was a homemaker and also worked at Hannah’s Garden Center, a bookkeeper for S & L Farm Services, and Warner’s Potato Farm. She was a member of the Laura Christian Church, a 52 year member of the American Legion unit 245 in New Madison, Ohio and former member of the American Legion unit 672 in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, where she was the former president of the ladies auxiliary. Mildred was a 1933 graduate of Franklin High School.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Scammahorn whom she married on November 14, 1942.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ron & Kay Scammahorn of Arcanum, Ohio; daughter and son in law, Karyl & Larry Eubanks of New Paris, Ohio; grandchildren, Ronda Scammahorn, Adam Scammahorn, Aaron (Roseanne) Scammahorn, and Heather (Randy) Tegtmeier; great grandchildren, Cody, Brock, and Kade Tegtmeier; sister, Margaret Hocker of Greenville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a service held on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Laura Christian Church, 1 South Main Street, Laura, Ohio, with Rev. Curt Duncan and Greg Kurtz co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Ohio. Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 3-7 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.
