Gene Buchy, age 81 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 7:55 A.M. Thursday October 30, 2014 at the Willow Brook Christian Home Columbus, Ohio. Gene was born June 6, 1933 in Greenville and the son of the late Gerhardt and Corinne (Murphy) Buchy.
Gene was a 1951 graduate of Greenville Senior High School and a 1956 graduate of Wittenberg University. After serving 2 years in the United States Army he began working at Ernst and Ernst doing general accounting. Gene returned to Greenville to work for Greenville National Bank and then M.C. Carr Accounting Firm where he became a Certified Public Account. Gene became a partner and the Firm became known as Carr and Buchy Accounting of Greenville, where Gene continued his professional career until retirement. In 1996 he opened Hummers Sports Bar of Greenville.
Gene was a very active member of the Greenville Elks Lodge holding its highest position of Grand Exulted Ruler and later went on to become State President and then Chairman of the Board of Grand Trustees for the Elks. Other lodge memberships would include Greenville Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge, V.F.W. and the Greenville Liar’s Club. He was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Todd Buchy.
Gene is survived by his son Mark (Elizabeth) Buchy of Westerville; daughter in law Brenda Buchy of Worthington; grandchildren Luke, Liam, Anna and Tara; Sister Janice (Roger) Marker of Centerville, Ohio and 1 niece and 1 nephew
Gene’s family will receive friends on Tuesday November 4, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio. There will be an Elks Lodge of Sorrow Service conducted at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday by the Greenville Elks Lodge follow by a Celebration of Life Service with Pastor Peter Menke officiating. Private burial at the convenience of the family will be held in the Greenville Cemetery.
It was Gene’s request, that in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be given to the Elks National Foundation.
